People remember us not by
what we consumed, but by
what we contributed.
The truth is not
difficult to see. It is
difficult to swallow
7 – Keys to Success
1. Connect with Allah &
Rasoolullah‫ﷺ‬
2. Take risk
3. Focus on what you
control or can influence
4. Analyze objectively &
face the brutal facts
5. Set Extraordinary Goals
6. Create a Roadmap with
timelines
7. Relentlessly measure
results –your own first
Success is never an accident
1. Connect with Allah &
Rasoolullah‫ﷺ‬
Because it all begins with this
Ta’alluq Ma’Allah
1. Correct Aqeeda
2. Correct Intention
3. Correct Action
4. Dhikr
5. Tawba
6. Tawakkul
Measure your level of Taqwa
1. When I want to do something, but that is
against the orders of Allah , what do I do?
2. When I want to do something, but it is against
the Sunnah of Rasoolullah‫ﷺ‬ what do I do?
How do you measure Taqwa?
What do you want to change in this?
Factor Allah into the
equation because He
is in it anyway
Selective obedience
is disobedience

Baqara 2: 85…….Then do you believe in a part of
the Scripture and reject the rest? Then what is the
recompense of those who do so among you, except
disgrace in the life of this world, and on the Day of
Resurrection they shall be consigned to the most
grievous torment. And Allah is not unaware of what
you do.
1. Please write one thing that you learnt until now.
2. By when do you plan to implement that in your life?
3. What will help you to implement it?
4. What is likely to hinder you in implementing it?
Quick Recap
Write the most important thing –
even if you learnt more

The Fifth Discipline
Causal Loop & Compensating Loop
Entrepreneurs take risk
Entrepreneurs succeed because they take risk
They take risk because they have ‘nothing to lose’
When they succeed, they start accumulating
‘something to lose’
Systems Thinking
Fear of Failure starts growing
Risk taking decreases
Growth slows down
Gain
Fear
Slow
1. Create Phantom Competitors
2. Plan Challenge Scenarios & Find solutions
3. Encourage, even Enforce Risk Taking
Cure
Complacency is death
1. Identify your Causal & Compensating Loops
2. What must you do to neutralize the
Compensating Loops?
3. What do you need in order to succeed?
Exercise
Good intentions are not enough to achieve results
Results depend on informed intelligent action
20 minutes
1. Please write one thing that you learnt until now.
2. By when do you plan to implement that in your life?
3. What will help you to implement it?
4. What is likely to hinder you in implementing it?
Quick Recap
Write the most important thing –
even if you learnt more
3. Focus on what you control
Directly or indirectly
I will not allow what is
not in my control to
prevent me from doing
what is in my control
Focus on the result you want
Ask: How much do I really want this?
Ask: What am I prepared to do for it?
Ask: Whose support do I need?
Focus on what you control
It’s not about what happened
It’s about what you can do
 Daily prioritize things/actions in terms of:
 What is critical to your goal?
 What do you think you can act upon?
 What would you gain if you were successful?
 What do you believe you need to succeed?
Manage your In Tray
Eliminate noise
Delete Invest

Leverage
Investment
Return
20% of what you do, produces 80% of the results
Choice ≠ Option
Success is a result of considering different
scenarios and exercising the best option
Remember
What matters is not what you want to do
but what you can do
Strength Weakness
Opportunity Threat
Me
Please create your own SWOT Analysis and
analyze your own career and reflect on what you
would do to increase your options
Reflection
Being ‘rich’ is to have more options
Not to have more possessions

‘Master’ or ‘Victim’
Choosing a Stance in Life
1. Living life is about making choices:
1. Choosing to be a “Victim”
2. Or choosing to be a “Master”
2. Both stances are subject to the givens of
society, environment, organization
3. Both stances have implications in terms of your
development and happiness
The Essential Truth
Distinguishing features
Victims
 Complain about what
happened
 Think of excuses
 Blame others
 Lose hope & give up
 Perish
Masters
 Say, “What can I do about it?”
 Think of solutions
 Own responsibility
 Have courage to try new ways
 Win, even if they fail
The choice is ours
Life is an equation
2 + 4 = 6
 We control one side of it only but by changing the
number we write, we can get the result we want
Life is Math
 Think of any interaction as an equation
 It has two sides which produce the outcome
 What happens on either side affects the outcome
 We control only one side, but….
 We can choose whatever outcome we want
 Being proactive is to try to affect both sides
 Being proactive is about sustained effort
 It is about building a reputation of integrity
Life is Math
Development is a product of thought, not time
The only way to get, is to give
1. Want trust?
2. Want caring?
3. Want fun?
4. Want respect?
5. Want harmony?
6. Want appreciation?
7. Want happiness?

2. Show concern
3. Laugh often
4. Be thankful
5. Accept differences
6. Don’t be critical
7. Forgive mistakes
1. Success, like everything else, has a price.
2. We often don’t succeed simply because we are not
willing to pay that price.
3. That is because we don’t know what the price is
The Price of Success
What is the price of your success?
1. Please write one thing that you learnt until now.
2. By when do you plan to implement that in your life?
3. What will help you to implement it?

4. Analyze Objectively
Face the brutal facts
1. Assess your assets & liabilities
2. Decide on what you can contribute
3. What are your metrics?
4. Assess the risks & make contingency plans
Analyze objectively &

5. Set Extraordinary Goals
Nothing else is worth it
1. It is in the nature of the extraordinary goal to inspire
extraordinary effort
2. Nobody rises to low expectations. People rise to high
expectations.
3. An extraordinary goal scares the daylights out of you,
keeps you awake at night and forces you to think out of the
box because you have no idea how to achieve it
Set Extraordinary Goals
Goal Setting
The Key to Ensuring Success
‘Being’ Goal
 “I want to be the head of the organization.”
‘Doing’ Goal
 “I want to create and share a vision that will take this
company to the Fortune 100 list.”
“Being” & “Doing” Goals
What do you need to do, to be?
To be you have to do
To do, you don’t have to be
Unless you do, you will never
be
1. What is the goal?
 Mutually decide on what is to be achieved
2. Why should it be done?
 Show its significance for the Organization
3. What’s in it for me?
 Show its significance for the employee
Gaining Commitment
Because people are motivated by gain
1. How do I know that I am on track?
 Create a Roadmap with Milestones
2. By when should it be done?
 Set time frames for review and completion
Review, Recognition
“If you want to know what an organization values,
see what they measure.”
Mikel Harry – 6 Sigma
S.M.A.R.T. Goals

Measurable
Actionable
Realistic
Time bound

6. Create a Roadmap
Or you will be lost
1. What are the steps to achieve your goal?
2. What resources do you need?
3. What is your plan to get them?
4. What are the enablers and inhibitors?
5. How do you know you are on the right track?
Create a Roadmap
What you can’t measure, you can’t control
7. Measure Results
Relentlessly
1. What are the metrics?
2. What is the benchmark?
3. What is the reason for deviation?
Relentlessly measure results –
Your own 1st
You can only guarantee what you measure
1. Don’t get discouraged
2. Don’t stop measuring
3. Report out the results
4. Celebrate small successes
5. Don’t rest on your laurels
Remember
Measurement is reality
1. How much do you truly need success?
2. As much as you need food?
3. Or as much as you need air?
The Crucial Question
Success comes to those who truly need it

1. Please write three goals you intend to work on
 What does the ‘arrived state’ look like?
2. Write the steps that you need to take for each
 What will tell you that a step has been achieved?
3. Please set a timeline for each step
 By when will each step need to be completed?
