Ask yourself what elements of the text are conventional and whether it breaks convention in any way.Present your analysis on your blogs, either as a written word document, a PowerPoint with audio or a Prezi. Genre elements Conventions Characters โ representations, stereotypes, behaviour, body language, specific actors/stars Characters in the video are the 2 performers Martin Garrix and Jay Hardway and also all, the people that are in the crowd. There is the stereotype of the sweatiness and energy of the house music genre shown in the crowd and the performers. The behaviour of the performers is conventional to the genre as they show a lot of energy and get the crowed hyped in a stereotypical way by getting their hands up in the air. The scene were they are in private jets is also stereotypical of the genre as they are shown to live jet setting lifestyles. Narrative events โhow is the narrative ordered and structured? Can character types or other narrative elements such as opposites/ stages of equilibrium/disequilibrium be applied to photos/video? The video is mainly performance with elements of narrative. The performance element of the video has the Martin Garrix and Jay Hardway performing the song to hundreds of people in a venue which is possibly part of a music festival. The element of narrative is the artist flying to the venue which is the state of equilibrium in the narrative. The equilibrium is broken when the music drops and the performers and crowd go wild to the music. Iconography โ props, symbolic codes/fonts/colour schemes Iconography used is the both of the artist name that appear at the start of the video which are always presented as a cover on the Dj tables when preforming live. The deck and the headphones what the artist use is also another part of iconography in the video as you would expect to the see this in most live performances for the genre of music Setting- mise en scene in moving image/photos The mise en scene of the video is a music venue were the are preforming for many people which is dark and lit by the strobe lights that are in time with the music. The second scene is when both of the artist are in private jets flying in to preform together. Technical and audio codes โ camera use, editing, lighting, diegetic/non diegetic sound, sfx/page layout: the Guttenberg principle/rule of thirds The lighting in the video varies between high and low key. Most of the lighting is deduced from the strobe lighting which impulses in time to the music. The lighting is also edited in at the beginning during the establishing shot which identifies both artists and the song name surrounded by the edited strobe lighting. The editing is slow paced at first until the beat drops then the pace of the editing speeds up in to the speed of the music.
