William Shakespeare was an English playwright and poet born in 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon. He studied at King Edward VI School but left at age 14 and did not attend university. Shakespeare moved to London in the early 1590s to work as an actor and playwright. He became a shareholder of the Lord Chamberlain's Men theatrical company and bought shares in the Globe Theatre. Shakespeare wrote over 37 plays, 154 sonnets, and 4 long narrative poems and is considered the greatest English-language playwright in history.
