A grassroots movement has led to Student Digital Leadership initiatives operating in a number of UK schools, both at primary and secondary level. Until now there has been no mechanism to provide transferable recognition for the skills and achievements that students acquire in these roles. Mozilla's Open Badges technology offers an opportunity for addressing this, whereby students are able to collect badges for the roles they take on and display them on selected websites - for example, social networking profiles, job sites, online CVs and more ..
The session will describe how the SDL initiative is operating in schools, including the roles that students typically take on, and the design and development of the badging framework that helps define each badge/role.

Digital transformation at RAU
The document outlines RAU's digital transformation work including developing a digital strategy, improving their virtual learning environment Gateway, launching a new student portal called myRAU, and establishing online resource lists. It can be a challenge to provide engaging and interactive staff development that equips staff with the skills they need to contextualise and apply technology in their own teaching. The challenge is even greater when you need to change attitudes towards technology and encourage team working.
This will demonstrate a ‘Roadshow’ approach and how this has made a major impact within Learning Providers. Armed with a variety of mobile technologies for participants to explore, the Roadshow provides interactive training with an emphasis on collaborative scenario based activities, aimed at teachers and trainers. Participants are encouraged to chose a scenario or invent their own scenario, taking into consideration a particular student/group that they teach. They then use the technology to create a resource they then ‘sell’ the idea to the whole group.

Information is no longer in the hands of the select few. Learners are finally independent of the teacher and school – or are they? What will they do with the information? Forging Stronger Partnerships Between Teachers and Students - Abigail Joy Rod...
At only 15 months after its adoption of Blackboard Learn, Malayan Colleges Laguna (MCL) has been breaking barriers in learning and creating new paths for student achievement. In this presentation, they will share about their experiences in adoption, the solutions that surfaced after a school-wide adoption of Blackboard Learn,their tiny victories in attempting to curb resistance in the adoption of a new learning management system, and, more importantly, the partnerships that they have forged this far into the journey. They understand that institutions in the earlier stages of adoption experience similar difficulties and they hope to ease each other's burdens by sharing lessons, solutions and triumphs.
Carter Sherman - Heinz Prechter Bipolar Research Fund
The Heinz Prechter Bipolar Research Fund supports the largest longitudinal study of bipolar disorder in the United States. The study has over 1200 active participants and collects data through questionnaires, neuropsychological testing, and annual clinical interviews to identify illness patterns, develop personalized treatment plans, predict outcomes, and establish prevention methods. Findings include that fewer depressive symptoms were associated with better employment outcomes over time, collaborative care models have a positive effect on managing symptoms, polygenic risk scores may help predict bipolar disorder risk prospectively, and genes influence bipolar disorder risk in youth. The study also found women with bipolar disorder reported poorer sleep quality than men and poor sleep quality predicted worse mood outcomes.
Letter of Recommendation-Michael Jensen
Michael Jensen writes a letter of recommendation for Taylor Mehringer for the position of firefighter/EMT with the City of Forest Grove Fire Department. Jensen has worked directly with Mehringer for two years as an EMT at Jefferson Fire District. He states that Mehringer has demonstrated an ability to work effectively under pressure and completes tasks with a high level of dedication. Jensen also says that Mehringer works well with others, has gained the respect and trust of his coworkers, and is able to handle leadership roles when required. Jensen recommends Mehringer for the position, believing he will make a great firefighter/EMT.

The Heinz Prechter Bipolar Research Fund supports the largest longitudinal study of bipolar disorder in the United States. The study has over 1200 active participants and collects data through questionnaires, neuropsychological testing, and annual clinical interviews to identify illness patterns, develop personalized treatment plans, predict outcomes, and establish prevention methods. Findings include that fewer depressive symptoms were associated with better employment outcomes over time, collaborative care models have a positive effect on managing symptoms, polygenic risk scores may help predict bipolar disorder risk prospectively, and genes influence bipolar disorder risk in youth. The study also found women with bipolar disorder reported poorer sleep quality than men and poor sleep quality predicted worse mood outcomes.

This study examined how type 2 diabetic Goto-Kakizaki (GK) rats respond differently than healthy Wistar rats to activation of the autonomic nervous system by intracisternal injection of thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH). The GK rats had higher baseline blood glucose levels compared to Wistar rats. TRH injection induced a greater insulin response but smaller decrease in blood glucose in GK rats, indicating impaired insulin secretion and action. Vagotomy blocked the insulin response, while adrenalectomy prevented the rise in blood glucose, showing the involvement of the vagus nerve and adrenal glands. The GK rats also had higher basal insulin gene expression but a lower response to TRH

The theme of the ACODE 88 Meeting 2 March 2023 was ‘Embracing AI for student and staff productivity’. As this workshop we had some 200 participants; Director of TEL, Managers and Educational Designers, all bringing perspectives from their own institutions, to benchmark and understand were we stand on this complex, but exciting issue. As an output from this workshop, ACODE have developed a White paper, to help provide the sector with a way forward, one developed together.

Common Core standards now include technology skills as technology has become more advanced and integral to 21st century learning.
