The document outlines RAU's digital transformation work including developing a digital strategy, improving their virtual learning environment Gateway, launching a new student portal called myRAU, and establishing online resource lists. Using a Microsoft Teams Group site to collaboratively support staff digital capabilities at the University of Brighton. The site aimed to share information, capture good practices, and answer questions to support flexible, inclusive, and multimodal digital learning. Over 330 members from various departments used the site, mostly asking questions about technology which led to broader pedagogical discussions. Analytics showed high engagement from July to November 2020 during remote teaching. The site successfully reduced pressures on technical support staff and hopes to collect case studies of good digital teaching practices. Evaluations will assess the site's role in fostering an online community of support.

Like all universities across the globe the University of Westminster is faced with major changes in student expectations and the role that technology has to play in curriculum delivery and the overall student experience. In 2013 the University initiated its Learning Futures program with the aim of transforming learning and teaching at the institution. Central to the transformation is an aim to make blended learning, through the use of technology, more the norm rather than the exception. To facilitate this shift in delivery approach across all subject areas, Westminster has and continues to make significant investment in both its virtual and physical environment in efforts to better integrate the online and face-to-face experience.

For many years AUT has used the Wimba Voice Authoring tools for a range of learning and teaching support activities. Most recently, and most comprehensively, the VA Presenter function has been used by our School of Languages to support a group of papers for a Translating and Interpreting programme, as well as for a Sign Language qualification. Since the announcement of ‘end of life’ for Voice Authoring and its replacement with Voice Thread, we have been working to understand how we can best replicate the previous functionality. After just a short period of the tools being available to us, we have made some progress in understanding how this new toolset will provide what we want, as well as potentially offering us much more. This session will present some of our initial findings, as well as invite others to discuss their experiences and opinions.

At only 15 months after its adoption of Blackboard Learn, Malayan Colleges Laguna (MCL) has been breaking barriers in learning and creating new paths for student achievement. In this presentation, they will share about their experiences in adoption, the solutions that surfaced after a school-wide adoption of Blackboard Learn,their tiny victories in attempting to curb resistance in the adoption of a new learning management system, and, more importantly, the partnerships that they have forged this far into the journey. They understand that institutions in the earlier stages of adoption experience similar difficulties and they hope to ease each other's burdens by sharing lessons, solutions and triumphs.

Jisc has supported the creation of a UK wide Change Agents Network to support staff and students working in partnership on technology enhanced curriculum change projects. The network provides a virtual and face-to-face forum for staff and students across the UK to share approaches/experiences and offer support. The network was created as it was identified that working in partnership increases the success of technology-led projects and delivers the identification of student need and appropriate action. Delegates will have an opportunity to hear examples of how institutions are working in partnership with students to identify and affect sustainable change. Students who have participated in the network will share their experiences and outline the benefits they have experienced in working in partnership with staff on curriculum change initiatives. The network has worked with the Staff and Educational Development Association (SEDA) to develop an award for staff and students working in partnership on change projects, the Institutional Change Leader award and this session will offer an insight into how colleges and universities are recognising and rewarding student participation in change projects. Participants will engage in discussion around this award and will be given access to the accreditation resources and materials, which they may wish to take to their own institution. The network has also developed a guidance toolkit to support colleges and universities with implementing student partnerships, which has been developed from the collective resources of a range of Jisc, Higher Education Academy, QAA and institutional initiatives in this area. Delegates will participate in a group activity using these interactive materials so as to evaluate their use in supporting their own practice in taking forward student partnership working in their own institutions. Delivering RARPA: a college-wide digital approach

Tasked with developing a digital solution that learners could own, that was intuitive for support staff to manage and provided managers with instant access to insightful data, the Wiltshire College learning technologies team settled on an open source solution which is already delivering positive results since being been introduced across the college. This session will demonstrate the Wiltshire College RARPA system from the perspective of each group of users; the students managing their own progress, the staff using the system to support their learners and the managers now with a college-wide visibility of progress. In addition the developers will also explain how all of this was achieved, and their ideas for the future.

Staying relevant in a technology-driven world

It is recognised that more than ‘literacy’ is needed in today’s academic environment in order to take full advantage of the affordances of using ICTs for the full range of teaching and learning, research, and administrative duties and blended modes of provision. In order to address this issue, OUT, in collaboration with Saide’s OER Africa initiative, has conceptualised a course on ‘Digital Fluency’ to be provided as an Open Educational Resource (OER) and made available for ODeL provision. The move from literacy to fluency encompasses effective and ethical online communication, critical interpretation, quality resource creation and curation, knowledge co-construction, and an understanding of using all of these abilities to open up education – with all of these becoming increasingly standard and effortless over time.

Virginia Tech transitioned from Blackboard to Sakai as its learning management system. It began piloting Sakai in 2005 and aims to complete the transition by December 2010. It has provided extensive training and support to faculty through workshops covering Sakai overview, tasks, pedagogy, and one-on-one help. Training attendance has grown from hundreds to over a thousand. The transition involves migrating content from Blackboard to Sakai through an automated tool and manual testing migration. Feedback is used to refine training and development to aid the transition.
