This clinical white paper discusses stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) as a minimally invasive treatment option for trigeminal neuralgia (TN), a common cause of severe facial pain, especially in the elderly. SRS has emerged as a preferred treatment due to its effectiveness in providing pain relief with minimal side effects, distinguishing itself from traditional surgical methods which are more invasive. Although SRS offers significant benefits, it has a lower likelihood of achieving a pain-free outcome compared to microvascular decompression, and up to 50% of patients may experience pain recurrence within three years post-treatment.
