This session will highlight the benefits of ExamSoft reporting and assessment capabilities from the student view as well as the faculty view. Additionally, comprehensive longitudinal data from courses and entire programs will be presented to demonstrate the value of advanced assessment methods using ExamSoft across a curriculum for accreditation purposes. Example student report cards and exam reports will be shared as well as some additional features that you might not know you have at your fingertips.

Many accreditation standards require schools to develop and assess this skill in students, but this thought can be overwhelming. How can you assess thinking? Leveraging the Power of Rubrics for End of Rotation OSCEs on Multiple Sites

Presented by Robert Casanova, MD, Assistant Dean of Clinical Sciences, 3rd and 4th year and Rachel Forbes, MBA, Managing Director, Covenant Branch Campus both from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Using ExamSoft rubrics to provide a comprehensive and cohesive grading for all students on multiple campuses. We went from grading OSCEs on paper and having no control over exam results and providing very little feedback for the exam takers. We implemented ExamSoft Rubrics on one campus and then rolled out to our two other campuses. All results are now centralized and exam takers now have comprehensive feedback for each OSCE. We can also develop a longitudinal progression of each student as now our 1st year medical students also use rubrics with all of their OSCEs.

Presented by Sara Voorhees, Assistant Professor, University of Jamestown Physical Therapy Program Professional behaviors (PB) represent ten elements assessed in student physical therapist clinical practice. Classroom emphasis is on the didactic knowledge; refining PB are needed for successful clinical practice. ExamSoft rubrics allow for the assessment of PB across the curriculum. The PB are: critical thinking, communication, problem solving, interpersonal skills, responsibility, professionalism, use of constructive feedback, effective use of time and resources, stress management, and commitment to learning. Across the curriculum, rubrics are used for performance grading (practical examinations, skill checks, presentations), are assigned appropriate categories in ExamSoft. Reports track progress, identify problem areas, and target methods for improvement with each student. Weaknesses in PB can be identified in each student. During the student advisement process, the findings are discussed. Goals are set by the student and their advisor to help the student improve in these areas. ExamSoft enhances the advisement process: it allows faculty to identify student weaknesses in PB, and facilitates improvement. Students recognize their need to improve PB, a key to good clinical practice as future physical therapists.

Effects of Participation in a Post-Secondary Honors Program using Propensity ...

The present study sought to determine the extent to which participation in a post-secondary honors program affected academic achievement. Archival data were collected on three cohorts of high-achieving students at a large, public university. Propensity scores were calculated on factors predicting participation in honors and used as t he covariate. The Johnson-Neyman technique was used to determine the values of the covariate on which the groups differed. The effect of participating in honors was greater for smaller covariate values. The findings offer a positive outcome associated with participation for students at the lower end of the propensity score continuum, providing evidence to conclude that such programs are beneficial to a sub-set of high-achieving students.

Using ExamSoft to Design a Virtual Station-Based Clinical Competency Assessment

Typically, these types of assessments are logistically complex and require weeks of planning in order to run smoothly. In years past, Western University of Health Sciences – College of Dental Medicine (WUCDM) administered its OSCEs and station-based exams using a paper format, which requires a multitude of resources, lengthy grading period, and inability to track student learning outcomes. ExamSoft has served as a solution for the administration of fully electronic station-based assessments, resulting in the elimination of paper, minimization of time spent planning, and a quicker turnaround of grades and feedback to the students. With the advent of the electronic national licensure examination for dental schools, this webinar can guide you in developing and administering your own OSCEs through ExamSoft.

Applying the Peer Review Process to the Development of Learning Assessments

Faculty-generated exams have high-stakes implications for measuring student learning outcomes. However, these internal high-stakes assessments are often only seen by the faculty author and the students. Moreover, the test item writers may have had very little training in drafting test items. Since only the faculty author sees these items, they may never be reviewed for content, validity, reliability, readability, or even quality of writing. This session will explore what can happen when we apply the value of the scholarly peer review process to test item development. Included will be suggestions for faculty development sessions, sample exam blueprints for ensuring appropriate distribution of exam content, as well as specific examples of peer-reviewed questions.

Using Analytics to Intervene with Underperforming College Students

Abstract: Data mining is typically associated with business and marketing. For example, Amazon uses people's past purchases to suggest books they might be interested in buying. Similarly, academic analytics can be used to identify and predict students who might be at risk, by analyzing demographic and performance data of former students. However, there is no clear consensus on how to intervene with current students in a way they will accept and not associate with academic "profiling." Why should students think they are exceptions to our rules? This panel presentation will share how three institutions are approaching this problem and provide an overview of related issues.

Gillespie, Ph.D., Professor, Associate Dean for Graduate Education and Research, St. John's University College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences Professional health science programs must now explicitly identify interprofessional education (IPE) activities that provide unique opportunities for student-to-student engagement. Offering IPE activities is essential to advance education in these fields. We actively identify IPE possibilities and a methodology to assess them using ExamSoft’s categorization system. Our faculty are content experts and are in the best position to categorize test-items with national exam blueprints, the essential hierarchical ontologies that drive programs. Blueprints contain goals, outcomes, knowledge domains, professional skills and attributes often required for proficiency in specific health care professions. Mapping between different program blueprints allows the College to identify parts of the curriculum that are shared between programs and are ideal targets for IPE efforts. We provide worked examples where we observed overlapping terms that serve as an impetus for faculty and administrators to capitalize, creating IPE opportunities. By the very nature of this activity, overlapping terms are associated with test items that can be used to establish a pre-IPE activity baseline, as well as, assess the IPE activity itself. Synergistic assessment of shared goals and outcomes (using ExamSoft categories) helps us prepare our students to be outstanding health care professionals in the 21st century.

Retiring Exam Questions? How to Use These Items in Formative Assessments

All students are required to complete a 2-year research project on a topic of their choice in the field of Medicine/Health. We use the ExamSoft Rubrics platform to assess students' papers in the first year and posters in the second year. Programs must find ways to effectively assess, analyze, and act to improve curricular and instructional practices. Although the need for evaluation processes is well-documented, developing the systems by which to review and assess teaching and learning is challenging for most educational programs. In this webinar, we will discuss how a team of medical and biomedical faculty and staff developed an assessment monitoring system utilizing the category tool within ExamSoft. Presentation of critical outcomes will include: (1) the system design and implementation plan- including faculty recruitment and the roles and responsibilities of those involved with the project, (2) the development of targeted reporting - both for university leadership and students, and (3) how results from the project were used to improve discipline- and organ system-specific curriculum initiatives within the college. While the information in this presentation focuses on a medical education context, the material presented could be modified and used in a variety of educational disciplines.

With this process, immediate positive reinforcement and/or remediation can be implemented to create a proactive learning atmosphere for students that will ultimately lead to improved outcomes.

Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg, The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation. This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability. Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots. The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee. • The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act. • The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X. • The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
