This lecture was the follow on talk to the Workshop I gave at UI11. The talk was 90min. The main topics were What is "rich" in the context of "rich internet applications" or RIAs and why should you care?
Designing Powerful Web Applications Using AJAX and Other RIAsDave Malouf
This is the slide deck from the workshop given at UI11 on October 9, 2006. This presentation was given with myself (David Malouf) and Bill Scott (AJAX Evangelist @ Yahoo!).
The goal of the course was to teach people the basics of Interaction Design and then how to apply those principles to design using RIA technologies like AJAX and Flash.
Apart from being the buzzword de jour, what is this Ajax stuff that everyone is talking about? Take a look at some implementations out there and start thinking about how Ajax can add value to your site.

Web 2.0 is the second generation of Web development. It facilitates communication, secure information sharing, interoperability, and collaboration. Web 2.0 concepts have led to the evolution of Web-based communities, hosted services, and applications such as socialnetworking sites, video-sharing sites, wikis, blogs, and folksonomies. Web 2.0 enables users to run applications entirely in a Web browser. Users own the data on a Web 2.0 site and exercise control over that data. Web 2.0 sites, with their architecture of participation, encourage users to add value to the applications they use. This differs from traditional Web sites, which are solely for information retrieval and modifiable only by their owners.

Slides from my session at Learning 2006 conference in Orlando on Nov.7, 2006
The description was:
The future is already here. What is a mash-up and why is it emerging as the overarching model of the future? Examples can be seen in Wikipedia, Flickr, YouTube, Second Life, MySpace, open source, Amazon, etc. In the emerging “non monetary economy”, people will be "pro-sumers" and experience the ability for Personalization at an industrial and global scale.

Measuring & Evaluating Your DesignOps PracticeDave Malouf
This premiere version of this talk was given at WAQ in Quebec City on April 10, 2019.
It has a brief introduction to DesignOps and then goes into how to measure and understand value of designOps to the team and business.
What do you do every day, every week, outside of your project work to maintain your skills as an observer? This talk talks about how I do that in my life with suggestions for how you can, too.
This version of the talk was given at Web à Québec conference in Quebec City, QBC, Canada on April 5, 2017.
Enterprise UX: What, How & Why in 20 short minutesDave Malouf

Serendipity by Design - IxD S. America 13Dave Malouf
I opened up the talks section of this great conference in Recife, BR in 2013.
The talk was talking about how design can use the powerful tools of art and it's close association to non-linear creativity and associative thinking by building the space and culture of the studio environment.
This is a short deck of resources I believe will help the students fo my Politecnico di Milano 1-week workshop after the week is over.
Please feel free to add your own recommendations, but please notice that the conference section is geared towards Italy/Eurozone.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
