This document introduces the two types of nonfiction writing: narrative nonfiction and informative nonfiction. Narrative nonfiction tells true stories and can take the form of autobiographies, memoirs, biographies, or narrative essays. It shares characteristics with fiction such as setting, characters, plot, and conflict. Informative nonfiction explains or expresses opinions, and includes expository essays that explain processes or analyze works, as well as persuasive essays that promote opinions. Both types of nonfiction have a structure including an attention-grabbing lead, body with supporting details, and conclusion that restates the main idea.
