JRR Tolkien
JRR Tolkien, commonly credited as the father of fantasy , has developed a unique and individualistic
plot set in middle earth a land of elves, fairies and all that is mystical. Tolkien, a linguist and professor,
used literature to create various parallels between his life and the events in his novels. J.R.R Tolkien
was inspired by World War I British society, his education, and Roman Catholicism when writing his
fantasy novels, such as The Hobbit and The Silmarillion. John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born in
South Africa on January 3, 1892 to Arthur Reuel Tolkien and Mabel Suffield. Arthur and Mabel were
English and proudly so therefore when Arthur died on the 15th of February, 1896, the Tolkiens moved

Industrialization occurred in Britain in the 1750s due to the environmental and social climate prime
for mechanization in industries. Due to the change in economic exportations from agricultural to
mechanized products, Britain s society began to change as people migrated to work in factories. The
migration of the newfound middleclass led to mass urbanization of various areas in England which
contrasted the previous quintessential English countryside that had dominated the nation. Through the
expansion of mechanical goods, the countryside lost land to factories and the environment was also
deeply affected by the influx of smoke climbing into the air. Contrary to the environmental problems,
the British were experienced economic glory as the became a superpower in the advancing
technologies. Through the industrialization, Britain would develop advanced war machines and would
vastly change British society hundreds of years later in 20th century London. JRR Tolkien was
profoundly affected by industrialization throughout his time in World War I. Beginning in 1915,
Tolkien was enlisted in the war but it did take much time for him to leave: in November of the same
year he was sent back to London because he was diagnosed with Trench fever. Although he soon
recovered from the illness by christmas it was recurring through 1917 to 1918. Despite this epidemic,
Tolkien continued to make camp visits to various army bases in London. In a particular visit to the
Hull area, Tolkien and Edith had been walking in the woods when Edith danced for him in a place
filled of hemlock. This inspired Tolkien in the Legendarium or The Silmarillion as is is now known, as
he described the tale of Beren and Luthien. Furthermore, the warfare in World War I inspired his
descriptions of the Wars that take place within the Silmarillion. World

Physiological Response To Exercise Analysis
Marathon running has been associated with a number of physiological lapses that occurs when the
body and the organs can no longer sustain itself. Specifically ultra marathon running especially in the
heat. Exercise in the heat is a physiologically challenging for the function of the cardiovascular
(González Alonso Calbet 2003), thermoregulatory system (Johnson 2010; González Alonso et al.
2008; González Alonso 2012). Thus exposure to prolonged exercise in the heat that increases the body
temperature increases the risk of heat illnesses (Armstrong et al. 2007) such as acute heat
exhaustion/syncope which range from acute to chronical which can eventually lead to death such as
heat stroke. Heat also impairs the capacity of performance, subsequently, ... Show more content on

NO plays a vital role within the coronary and the peripheral hemodynamic by increasing the
peripheral perfusion control and metabolic regulations during exercise (Pinna et al. 2014) and
therefore reduces the physiological responses to exercise. Specifically NO has been reported to assist
in the thermoregulation system, by increasing the blood flow and muscle contractibility and
maintaining glucose level (Cermak et al. 2012). Clementi Nisoli (2005); Nisoli et al., (2004) reported
that exposure of cells to NO stimulates mitochondria biogenesis (Kingwell, 2000). Ingestion of
~500ml per day of beetroot juice has been reported to reduce pulmonary oxygen uptake (V̇ O₂) during
submaximal exercise and increase tolerance of high intensity work rates (Pinna et al. 2014),
suggesting that nitrate can be a potent ergogenic aid. However, research is still missing regrading
effect of nitrate ingestion on athletic performance (Lansley, et al. 2011) study found that the when
140ml of beetroot juice was ingested per day for six days during a 60 minute cycling time trial had,
and 10km time trial; the beetroot group performed better compared to the placebo group which was

Winston Churchill s Role In Ww2
Winston Churchill (pg. 82) Winston Churchill was the British Prime Minister during WWII. Churchill
formed a group cabinet of leaders from the Liberal and Conservative parties. He placed smart and
talented men in important positions. On June 18, 1940, Churchill made one of his famous speeches to
the House of Commons, warning them that the Battle of Britain was about to begin. He kept resistance
to Nazi dominance alive, and created an alliance with the United States and the Soviet Union.
Churchill had previously created a relationship with U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt in the
1930s, and by March 1941, he was able to obtain vital U.S. aid through the Lend Lease Act, which

At the end of the war, he returned home to Amsterdam, searching desperately for news of his family.
On July 18, 1945, he met two sisters who had been with Anne and Margot at the camp and they
delivered the tragic news of their deaths. Months later, Frank s former employee, Miep Gies, found
Anne s diary in the annex and gave it to Otto once he returned. Later he had the journal published
under the title The Diary of a Young Girl.
The Secret Annex (pg. 22) The Secret Annex was located at the top of Otto Frank s office building. It

Traditional Research Methods Of Quantitative And...
Traditional research methods consist of implementing quantitative and qualitative research.
Quantitative research utilizes statistical analysis by breaking down components of observation that are
compared to other elements (Bergman, M. M., 2008). Qualitative research focuses on investigating the
participant s range of behavior, usually with small groups, which results in descriptive analysis
(Bergman M. M., 2008).
Mixed method research involves using Qualitative research and Quantitative research designs. The
advantage of using both is to utilize the strength of each type in order to produce an outcome that is
most beneficial to the area of study (Bergman, M. M., 2008). The challenge with mixed method
research in integrating the results of both Qualitative and Quantitative results in order to present
unbiased scientific results that are worthy of discussion (Bergman, M. M., 2008).
Action research is a practical or real world approach to a profession inquiry in a social setting.
Educational professionals may use this approach to evaluate an existing teaching method or review a
new method that may be considered for use in the classroom. Action research can be implemented
using mixed methods and conducted my an individual or in collaboration with other professionals.

Couponing Should Be Banned Essay
Couponing is a smart method to save money. While couponing is a great way to save money, is it fair?
Couponing takes a lot of time and most people choose not to bother and end up paying a higher price
for the exact same product at the same store. Should couponing even be legal? Price discrimination is
a factor at play when it comes to couponing. Customer rebates are another questionable practice we
will discuss as we delve into this topic of price discrimination, price elasticity and monopolistic
competition.

I am sure that is a lot stores slogans, but how often do you actually coupon? Most people that coupon
are looking for lower prices or a better deal, but aren t we all? Couponing is time consuming and not
everyone has the time to save the money they would like, and a person could say that this is an unfair
practice. Coupons are a very effective way to price discriminate. Customers who are very responsive
to price changes that is, customers with a very elastic demand are likely to take time to find coupons
that effectively lower the good s price. On the other hand, customers less responsive to price changes
because of their less elastic demand aren t as likely to take the time to find coupons. Graham, R. J.
(n.d.). Going under the assumption that only people who absolutely need to save money are the only
ones who coupons, is that fair? One would say that it is. If a person really wants to save money, they
can clip coupons as well. The couponing practice is not discriminatory as far as who can clip coupons,
it is just discriminatory as to who will actually do it. I, personally, should use more coupons, but the
time it takes to clip them out and finding the product that the product is for is too time consuming for
me. The opportunity cost is too great in some circumstances for me to clip coupons even though I

Not Just Minor Characters In April Morning, By Howard Fast
Not Just Minor Characters Pop! Ping! Bang! These are the sounds that rang throughout the morning of
April 19th, 1775, in Lexington, Massachusetts. Howard Fast writes in the book April Morning about
the day of the Battle of Lexington through the eyes of Adam Cooper, but Adam is not the only
important character in this story. Granny Cooper, Sarah Cooper, and Ruth Simmons do not seem to
have a major role, but they are not just minor characters. Granny Cooper is the mother of Moses
Cooper and the grandmother of Adam Cooper. Even though Granny never picked up a gun the entire
book, she is still a very important character within the story. Fast writes in April Morning that Adam
makes the comment, My own opinion was that Granny could win hands down in any argument, but
she would not argue with her son in front of his own children. Adam means that Granny Cooper is a

She is always shown in the role of a housewife. She does not grow over the course of the book. She is
the wife of Moses Cooper and the mother of Adam Cooper. In April Morning, Fast writes, I don t see
how it gives her the right to talk to you the way she down. You re a grown man, not a boy. (pg 46).
Sarah conveys that she does not approve of the way Granny Cooper talks to Moses Cooper. She is
defensive of her husband s pride. She also seems annoyed that her mother in law talks that way to her
husband like he is a child, not a grown man. After Sarah discovers that Moses is dead, she is very
upset. If I don t appear just the same I mean the way you think about me as your mother today and
even tomorrow, you understand . (Fast pg 195). Sarah is in shock that her husband is dead. She has
never had this happen to her, so she does not know how to process her emotions. She tells Adam that
she may not be able to act as his mother right now, because she is mourning Moses. Sarah Cooper is
painted as a static character and she does not change over the course of the

Comparing Jocasta In The Odyssey And Oedipus
Most seems to enjoy tight casting female characters through two tropes: either the damsel in distress
waiting for her knight in shining armor to save her, or a tough, power indulged witch who s only
concern is herself. Very few times (and by even fewer male authors) will a female character be written
as a medium between the two extremes. This problem has been occurring for centuries almost, even
being found in literature dating back to B.C., with Penelope from Homer s The Odyssey and Jocasta
from Sophocles Oedipus Rex : Penelope being written as the damsel with hundreds of suitors vying
for her attention, all while desperately weaving and waiting day in and day out for her true love to
come home; Jocasta as this harsh women who only wants to be around when everything is working to
her advantage. Then there s Antigone, who stands up for her morals against Thebes without so much
as batting an eye. The Odyssey tells the story of Odysseus, ruler of Ithaca who has been lost out at sea
for the past 20 years after the Trojan war. At home waiting is his son Telemachus and his wife
Penelope. Unsurprisingly Telemachus with the help of Athene ... Show more content on

At first glance, it was exciting to see a woman dominate that severely in a man s world; but much like
Lady Macbeth, all Jocasta had were her tough edges and a hunger for whatever power her family

will inevitably bed his mother keep in mind, Jocasta knew this was all true she put so much effort into
making Oedipus believe that this wasn t true and that it was impossible (Sophocles 38). Later on when
Oedipus found out Jocasta was his own mother, Jocasta later killed herself before she had to face
responsibility for her actions to more than just Oedipus and his men. (Sophocles

Data Analysis And Data Mining
The exponentially increasing amounts of data being generated each year make getting useful
information from that data more and more critical. The information frequently is stored in a data
warehouse, a repository of data gathered from various sources, including corporate databases,
summarized information from internal systems, and data from external sources. Analysis of the data
includes simple query and reporting, statistical analysis, more complex multidimensional analysis, and
data mining. Data analysis and data mining are a subset of business intelligence (BI), which also
incorporates data warehousing, database management systems, and Online. The technologies are
frequently used in customer relationship management (CRM) to analyze patterns and query customer
databases. Large quantities of data are searched and analyzed to discover useful patterns or
relationships, which are then used to predict future behavior. Some estimates indicate that the amount
of new information doubles every three years. To deal with the mountains of data, the information is
stored in a repository of data gathered from various sources, including corporate databases,
summarized information from internal systems, and data from external sources. Properly designed and
implemented, and regularly updated, these repositories, called data warehouses, allow managers at all
levels to extract and examine information about their company, such as its products, operations, and
customers buying habits. A

MAPLE LEAF CONSUMER FOODS FIXING HOT DOGS (A)
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Maple Leaf Foods (MLF), a result of many mergers and amalgamations, has been in Canada for over
100 years. Its operations focus on three core areas: meat products, agribusiness and bakery products.
The meat product group is the largest, with sales to about $2.5 billion in 2000. Each business is made
up of independent operating companies (IOCs), with each IOC run by a president and encouraged to
follow a common set of values. Efforts are underway to optimize vertical coordination of the IOCs. A
major concern for the meat product division is the loss of market share in the hot dog industry where
average price per kilo is increasing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
RESULTS OF SITUATION ANALYSIS
MLF is losing market share due to proliferation of unsuccessful brands such as _Beef Dogs_, _Lean n
Lite_ and _Burns_. Having too many brands has spread corporate resources thin and has underutilized
the Maple Leaf brand name leading to lack of a national identity of their hot dog segment,
productivity problems and rising costs, both operational and production.
THE ALTERNATIVES THEIR ANALYSIS
ALTERNATIVE 1: _Eliminate poor performing hot dog brands and re allocate the funds associated
with them to existing brands that are doing well in order to increase their sales._
The hot dogs that we are trying to improve sales for are: _Hygrade_, _Maple Leaf Originals_, _Top
Dogs_ and _Shopsy s_. This option involves reformulating _Top Dogs_ to make it taste better and
provide value for the consumers, without trying to make it a national brand. MLF will increase market
research in order to gain vital information to help properly position this brand in each of the different
regions. MLF can borrow money from other, more profitable IOCs

What Is Theology Essay
What is theology? What does it explain if anything? According to the encyclopedia, it is related to the
Greek Religion. In Christianity, the systematic study of the nature of God and God s relationship with
humanity and with the world. Although other religions may be said to have theologies, this is a matter
of controversy within, for instance, Judaism , which holds that God is unknowable. This article will
therefore confine itself to Christian theology. The development of theology in Christendom arose from
the need for educated Christians of the ancient world to express their ideas in terminology familiar in
current thought. Hence arose the close relation of Christian theology with Greek philosophy

sides of one object and put them in one piece. I used blocks of solid color in the background, line

The Pros And Cons Of Vegetarianism
A vegetarian diet does not consist of meat, poultry, or fish instead fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts,
and whole grains. Depending on the person, a vegetarian diet may consist of eggs and dairy products.
There are also different classifications of vegetarians. For example, lactovegetarians will consume
dairy, and lacto ovovegetarians will consume both dairy and eggs. Lastly, semivegetarians will
consume fish but no meat or poultry. It is not known when vegetarianism started, but oldest record
dates to the 6th century BC in Europe. A group of religious followers of the Orphic mysteries banned
sacrificing animals and the consumption of any animal product. In Greece, Pythagoras was developing
ideas that linked meat consumption and reincarnation, and this ultimately caused some to avoid
consuming meat. This lead to a phenomenon called that Pythagorean way of life which was practiced
by other philosophers and writers until the 19th century. The reasons for switching to a vegetarian diet
was similar to some mentioned today. The ancient Greeks believed that like humans, animals could
communicate and think, and humans were responsible to care for the animals. In addition, the Greeks
believed that consuming meat was impacted the mind and health. This lead them to think that a plant
based diet cleansed the soul and aligned them closer to god. There are no data recorded about
vegetarianism after the 6th century BC. The next known period dates to 1847 when the first vegetarian

A new way of building a church was with a cross in square plan, that is said to be a dutch influence,
and a very untraditional nave and aisles with subsidiary chapels.
A lot of churches needed a general rebuilding in the 18th and 19th century such as St.Bartholomew the
Great and All Hallows London Wall. These restoration were needed because of dissolution and decay.
During the 19th century declining population and church attendance in the city intersected with
growing appreciation of the buildings . Because of that Bishop Tait enforced the Union of Benefices
Act of 1860 which lead to the demolition of 16 city churches.
Around that time St.Nicholas Cole Abbey was disturbed during the laying of the London Underground
and St.Bride s Fleet Street was struck by lightening and needed some restoration.
A much bigger impact had the damage that was caused by bombs during the second World War. St.
Olave Hart Street for example was hit by four strikes and was restored in 1951 1954. Other Churches
such as All Hallows London Wall and St.Bride s Fleet Street had some serious war damage and
St.Nicholas Cole Abbey was burnt out in 1941 and reconstructed in 1961 1962. Even though those
churches needed some restoring architects of the 20th century tried to keep it as original as possible
and focused on the old parts of the church without any modern influence.

Anne Frank Good Heart
Do you believe all people have a little good in them? Anne Frank did. She was a Jewish teenage girl
who went into hiding during Holocaust of World War II. She didn t want to live up to her mother s
expectations, mostly because she felt that she couldn t. All her mother wanted was for her to be more
like Margot, her older sister. In fact, she stated in her diary, In spite of everything, I still believe that
people are really good at heart. There are many reasons why she said this. But they all circulate around
the primary idea that she was an optimistic person and tried to always see the brighter side in
everything.
Initially, my evidence comes from Anne s Diary, which was found by Miep Gies after the Franks and
Van Daans were taken to the concentration camps in 1944. This quote can be found on page 356 in

sadness in the world, but she always tries to look past it and see the beauty that is still there. This also
shows Anne s viewpoint on people, and how, unlike her, most people first see the flaws of other
people, but she always tried to look past the poor parts and see the best in people. Also this is seen in

Wireless Area Networks
Wireless technology has become an increasingly crucial part of today s world. From health care and
retail to academia across the world, wireless systems are improving the rate and ease with which data
is sent and received. Two specific examples of the wireless technology used today personally and
professionally are local area networks (LAN) and personal area networks (PAN).
A wireless local area network, or LAN is a flexible data communications system implemented as an
augmentation to, or an alternative for a, wired local area network. These networks rely on
electromagnetic airwaves to transmit and receive over a defined area, usually a few hundred feet.

The key to making this possible is variation of frequencies. As long as concurrent frequencies are no
being broadcasted in a given area, it is possible to have any number of radio transmissions taking
place at a given time. One might ask with countless number of transmissions that could be occurring
at a given time how is it possible to focus on just one stream of data? The answer again is achieved
through radio frequency characteristics. Once data has been encoded into a given radio carrier, all one
has to do to extract the information is have a receiver tuned into one specific frequency, while
rejecting all others. These receiving and transmitting nodes are known as access points. In typical

Why the British Troops Were Sent into Northern Ireland in 1969
In 1969 British Troops were sent into Ireland because Irish police could no longer cope with the
violence between the Unionist Protestant population and the Catholic Nationist population. The events
that meant it was necessary for British troops to be sent in stretch back a long way. This essay presents
the main long term and short term explanations as to why troops were needed.
The tensions between Catholic and Protestant citizens had been mounting for many years. During the
sixteenth century there was a lot of rivalry between the Catholic Church and Protestants and when
King Henry VIII broke away from the Pope and became Protestant, ... Show more content on

Many poor Protestant and Catholic farmers and citizens were swayed towards nationalism between
1845 and 1851 when Ireland suffered from a tragic famine in which many people died. Both the
English and Catholic churches and many local charities rushed in to help, yet English aid was not very
helpful and inadequate to the large Irish population. Many of the Irish emigrated and England s rule
over Ireland was questioned. With religious and historical conflicts the two communities found it very
difficult to reach an understanding and an agreement as to what they both wanted.
Many Irish people who had immigrated to America supported home rule of Ireland, many Irish and
not just Catholics but a few rich Protestant land owners who believed they could govern Ireland and
tenant farmers also supported this idea as the president would help them buy the land they farmed.
Others, mainly Protestants thought this would be a bad idea because being part of England they have a
share in the empire, the United Kingdom and have an economic income from England. The Unionists
wanted to stay with England because they too were Protestants and were afraid the Catholic Church
would take over if Ireland was independent, the Nationalists didn t want to be ruled by protestant.
Without the United Kingdom they could be an island with little support. Each group of people wanted

Compare And Contrast Everyday Use And Many Rivers To Cross
Connecting/Contrast Essay: The Definitions of Definitions
Many times, a difference in meanings and values can often lead to disagreements and conflicts
between two parties. Particularly, differences in defining these values can cause more major
misunderstandings since these definitions are what individuals create themselves so they differ from
person to person. Sometimes, these differences may even end friendships and relationships. However,
there are also times when definitions teach lessons regarding which moral is more just than another.
This is seen in the two short stories Everyday Use by Alice Walker, Two Kinds by Amy Tan, and the
essay Many Rivers to Cross by June Jordan, where the issue of definition plays a major role in
revealing the author s theme in all three texts, but Many Rivers to Cross differs from the short stories
by the order in which the definition was created.
In the short story Everyday Use, a difference in definition of heritage leads to a major conflict in the
short story and helps reveal the theme that heritage should be lived and not shown. Dee, an
Americanized daughter, is visiting her mother and sister at home from college in Augusta. She
changed her name to Wangera to show that she understands and cherishes their heritage through I

When the mother snatched the quilt out of Dee s hands and gave them to Maggie, (Walker, 255) the
author s argument became clear. The author wants heritage to be defined as how Maggie defines it: to
live the heritage and put the quilt to everyday use. The author s definition of the word heritage is
necessary in order to see the theme behind the short story which is to live and immerse in heritage,
and this could not have been understood without the difference in definitions of heritage between
Maggie and

Rhetorical Analysis About Love Song
Where is the love? Is the name of the Black Eyed Peas song that made its debut in 2003, 12 years have
passed still till this day this song is relevant to what is going on in our world. The name is just so
intriguing it makes the audience wonder what is going to be said and what is the song about? Is it just
another love song or can it be about something else? It captures the audience immediately.
Overseas, yeah, we try to stop terrorism, but we still got terrorists her livin in the USA, the big CIA,

This appeal is the one that is most prevalent and is shown through Aristotle s three criteria to stimulate
emotions from the audience. This song does an amazing job of connecting with the audience on an
emotional level and it also touches the audience in some way or other. After I thoroughly read the
lyrics I realized that it makes you want to make a change and get involved. I know that after I hear this
song I want to go out and do something better for this world and make it a better place. Every day on
the news we hear and see the horrible things that are happening and we stop and say well what can
you do about it? But once this song is heard it s like you want to start the change and make a
difference in some way. Can you practice what you preach and would you turn the other cheek this
really struck me hard when I first sat down and took it in. Can you really just walk away from all the
horrible things that are going on or can you make that difference that is talked about all the time?
Aristotle mentions the 3 criteria s which are understanding the state of mind of the audience, who can
excite the emotions, and understanding the reasons why people become emotional. These 3 can be
seen in the line people killin, people dyin , children hurt and you hear them crying. This line is so
captive and immensely strong just the thought of what is being said makes you think the

Big Data Is Not Without Its Own Problems
Abstract
Five years ago, few people had heard the phrase Big Data. Today, it s hard to go an hour without
seeing it implemented practically in our daily life. The promise of a highly accurate data driven
decision making tool is an attractive lure for any organization in any industry. However, big data is not
without its own problems.
Through this paper, we will attempt to understand what constitutes Big Data . We will explore some of
its sources and discuss some of the barriers faced by organizations looking to benefit from this
phenomenon. We will also examine the various management tools and statistical techniques that can
be used to extract information from big data.

It also refers to the range and variety from where the data is coming from, and the velocity with which
it is being produced. Equally important, is to understand the evolving nature of big data and big data
problems. What was considered a large data set 10 years ago is different from what we are being
challenged with today or what we shall be faced with tomorrow.
Big data is sprouting up everywhere and using it appropriately will drive competitive advantage.
Ignoring it will simply put an organization at risk, and cause it to fall behind its competition.
2. Sources Of Big Data
According to the Chief Futurist for Cisco Systems, Dave Evans, there are over 35 billion Internet
enabled devices in the world today. source The Internet of Things is almost as common a buzzword as
big data itself. Computers, mobile devices, coffee makers, washing machines, headphones, lamps, and
wearable devices are all capable of producing data. This includes website tracking information,
application logs, and sensor data such as check ins and other location tracking among other machine
generated content. We should also consider the data generated by the processors found within
vehicles, video games and cable boxes. A few other contributing sources of big data are:
2.1 Web Data. Being able to track what sites a user visits, what data he consumes, how he gets there,
how long he spends on each item of content all this is a virtual treasure trove of big data. Being able

The Birthmark Literary Analysis
In The Birthmark , a short story by Nathanial Hawthorne, the use of the archetypal conflict Nature vs.
Science, the character of Damsel in Distress, and the symbol of the Incurable Wound show how easily
beauty is overlooked in the endeavor for perfection. The archetypal conflict of Nature vs. Science is
shown in Aylmer s intention to remove the birthmark, nature s constant reminder of human mortality,
from Georgiana s cheek. Aylmer believed that the birthmark might heighten Georgiana s beauty if it
wasn t her only visible imperfection, but on Georgiana s otherwise flawless complexion the birthmark
was nothing more than the fatal flaw of humanity...the ineludible gripe in which mortality clutches the
highest and purest of earthly mould, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Georgiana had always lived with the birthmark, and was quite fond of its charm. Many people in the
town believe it was a fairy s handprint left to sway all hearts; to them the mark only magnified her
appeal. The mark s charm had rarely been questioned by anyone other than the jealous women of the
town, and its peculiar nature had once intrigued Aylmer and amplified his attraction to Georgiana. He
begged for her hand in marriage, but soon after they were wed, he queried whether Georgiana had
ever considered having the birthmark removed. She was hurt by the implication that the mark
depreciated her and grew upset with her husband. As time passed, Aylmer continued to stare at the
mark, unable to keep his eyes from wandering to it. This continued until Georgiana was no longer able
to ignore the way his eyes were always fixated on this sole imperfection, the crimson hand that kept
him up at night and plagued his dreams. She asked Aylmer to remove the mark, or take her life
because she no longer wanted to live if she had to live with the mark. She preferred death to the harsh
scrutiny from her husband. The symbolic meaning of the Incurable Wound is used to show the
psychological impact of Georgiana s insecurity about the birthmark because of Aylmer s lack of
acceptance of her natural beauty. Research has primarily focused on the consequences of exposure to
beauty advertising

Reggae Music s Influence On American Culture
Reggae Music
Music itself is often times a strong indicator of a society s culture, history, and beliefs. Sometimes
however, when another group listens to one society s music they also make connections to lyrics,
sounds, and melodies that were put into the song. This is very much the case with Reggae music as not
only did it take off in Jamaica, its country of origin, but the United States and parts of Europe as well.
Jamaicans viewed music as a way to pass down traditions and as a way to pass through difficult times.
Reggae music often times discusses the suffering of the Jamaican people in its lyrics. Reggae
developed from preceding styles of music like Ska and Rocksteady and the name appears to translate

People who feel no connection what so ever to the continent of Africa or the history of Jamaica can
feel connected to some of the songs. A popular Reggae song One Love by Bob Marley is able to
attract listeners and fanatics from many regions of the world. ( Bob Marley One Love Lyrics ) It is in
the style of Reggae music, but doesn t sound to the listener to be from any specific event or place. It s
general enough to appeal to a wide range of audiences. Many of the songs with an upbeat and easy
going feel to them put people into a relaxed state. As stated before other groups began to be
incorporated in the music and to make it their own. Over time this changes and influences music. It
can stretch the limits of the music to include people outside of its original culture and intended
audience. This is how people who have no connection to the history of Reggae can come to enjoy and

Racial Disparity Essay Topics
The debate on whether or not racial disparity is an issue in the United States is very popular. On one
side, are the people saying that racial disparity is an issue and that police are the main culprits; on the
other, are the people who say that police do not racially profile people and that racial disparity is not
an issue. While both sides have their differences, they also have some similarities. For example, both
viewpoints deal with racial disparity. On top of that, both are using police data and official statistics to
prove their points. Those two points are the only two spots where both sides overlap. The differences
between the two chapters are more evident. In chapter fifteen, it is said that the percentage of black
drivers being pulled over for traffic stops is disproportionate because police are racially profiling the
drivers; but in chapter sixteen, it is said that police are not profiling minority drivers, they are simply
stopping people most likely to be criminals. It is also stated in chapter sixteen that the population of
Richmond is mostly African Americans, and so the statistics are not disproportionate. Another point
brought up in chapter fifteen that was not mentioned in chapter sixteen, is the concern of officers not
reporting the correct information for each stop. As an example of this, race and ethnicity are not listed
on a driver s license so police must figure that out by themselves, and cannot be trusted to make ...

I say this because he or she included more statistics and data from multiple areas. The author of
chapter sixteen may mention multiple cities, but they only include data from one city. In my opinion,
this only shows that there is no racial disparity in that one city, but does not apply to the entire
country. On top of that, the author of chapter fifteen offers a comparison of the data involving black
drivers to data involving white

Deaeration
Prior to pasteurization, orange juice is deaerated because the presence of dissolved oxygen effects on
color, flavor and most importantly vitamin C. One of the key steps of orange juice processing is
deaeration since vitamin C has high sensitivity of oxygen. Removing air from orange juice provides to
minimize oxidative reactions such as oxidation of ascorbic acid and flavor compounds, and also to
decrease corrosion if the package of juice is made of metal. In addition to this point, the ascorbic acid
content of orange juice is also affected by high oxygen permeability containers. Another negative
effect of oxygen is giving a brown color. During orange juice processing there are some possibilities
of entraining air during pumping, mixing and tank filling. The product quality can be improved by
vacuum deaerator Figure 11. The capacity of the equipment is 3 tons/hour. Residual O2 levels below

Escherichia coli O157:H7 can grow in fruit juices with pH greater than 4. Since pH of orange juice is

been caused by Salmonella spp. which is related with unpasturized orange juice. Hence, Salmonella is

Oppression Of Gender Roles In Wonder Woman By Christian Stoic
Like I previously mentioned, the genre of action and adventure is so diverse, and there are so many
heroines and female characters, it is hard to argue that women in action roles strictly have a negative
impact on female viewers. Also, it would be completely inappropriate to argue that women in lead
action roles have no positive impacts on female viewers. As society continues to advance, female
heroines are also evolving and moving further away from the traditionally hypersexualized characters.
Instead, these heroines are easier for women to identify with, they are extremely strong and
independent female leads, and they are dressed more practically/appropriately. A few examples of
these new age action heroines include Jessica Jones, Alicia ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I believe that there is still a lot of work that needs to be done when it comes to female heroines, and I
hope that in time (sooner rather than later) these women heroines will serve strictly to empower and
inspire women of all ages. One reason that these heroines are sexualized and dumbed down more
often than not might be due to the lack of equality in terms of male and female directors. In an article
written by Yohana Desta, it states that There are about 23.8 male directors for every female director
(Desta 2017), and also that Women were more likely to direct dramas, and less likely to direct science
fiction or action films which are, imperatively, often the most successful and lucrative genres in the
business (Desta 2017). Since these lead female roles are written and created mainly by men and not
women, they are more aimed at a male audience. This is most likely why these women s bodies are
focused on more than making these characters into well rounded heroines that could serve to inspire
women. I believe that in order to transition from these heroines negatively impacting females, to these
heroines serving to empower women, there first needs to be an increase in the number of female
directors in Hollywood. I also feel that male directors should use women such as Jessica Jones or the

Examples Of Insanity In Literature
Insanity and Its Effects on the Mind We are all born mad. Some remain so. Samuel Beckett quoted this
from his play Waiting for Godot which is about two men who keep returning to a particular tree
waiting for the same person to come, but he never does. The definition of insanity, best described by
Albert Einstein, is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results. Insanity
comes up in all aspects of the daily human lives. In the short stories The Fall of the House of Usher by
Edgar Allan Poe and A Rose of Emily by William Faulkner, both authors show how insanity can effect
one s well being and daily routines. In each story the author presents the theme of insanity by having
the protagonist hold on to the bodies of their dead family members, cut off communication from the

Both of the protagonist had cut themselves off from the outside world and most communication.
Emily s never leaves her home after the strange disappearance of Homer. In fact, the story states that

servant a combined gardener and cook had seen in at least ten years, (Faulkner 628). Emily had not let
anyone come into her house for the past ten years, which is not something most people will do.
Humans need contact with others in order to function normally. The Usher family had a different way
of cutting off the outside world. They never married outside of the family tree. This cut ties with the
community due to their secluded house and no need to go anywhere. Keith Neilson describes the
isolation like this, Usher becomes so lopsided that his prolonged isolation, ..., drives him to the edge
of madness; along with the narrator, the reader sees him go over the edge, (Neilson). The Usher s did
not realize what they were doing to themselves at the time, but they were slowing driving themselves

Biography on Sir George Gabriel Stokes
SIR GEORGE GABRIEL STOKES
Sir George Gabriel Stokes, 1st Baronet, was an Irish physicist, mathematician, politician and
theologian. He was born on 13 August 1819, in Ireland, as the youngest son in the eight children of a
very religious Protestant family. His father Gabriel Stokes was the rector of Skreen; and his mother,
Elizabeth Haughton, was the daughter of John Haugton, the rector of Kilrea, County Londonderry He
first educated in Dublin, Ireland, and later he was sent to England where he continued his education.
He spent two years in Bristol College, which played an important role in his later studies at
Cambridge. In 1837 he became a student at Pembroke College, Cambridge and stayed there for the
rest of his life. Stokes did not limit himself with the current curriculum; along with mathematics,
Newtonian gravitational theory and the new wave theory of light, he was also interested in theological
books. He graduated from there as senior wrangler, which is the best rank for a mathematical
undergraduate at Cambridge (even timely it was called as the greatest intellectual achievement
attainable in Britain ); and also won the Smith s Prize which was an annual award for research
students in mathematics, applied mathematics and theoretical physics. University of Cambridge was
also the place where he attended his Lucasian professorship, which was before a title of Newton too.
After graduating, he joined the fellowship at Pembroke College which he had to resign few years

Eyewitness Testimony, Helpful or Hinderance
Eyewitness evidence can be fundamental when it comes to solving crimes, however, with the
increasing number of cases now being exonerated by DNA evidence, the questions lies, what degree
of confidence should be placed on the evidence of the eyewitnesses alone? Countless factors are
associated with the accuracy and consistency of eyewitness evidence, such as line up content, line up
instructions, the questioning techniques of interviewers and notably the gender and/or age of the
witness. Eyewitness testimony may not always be accurate, but despite its weaknesses, by using
empirical studies to guide reforms, eyewitness testimony can be an extremely beneficial instrument in
the criminal justice system. Inaccurate evidence is not necessarily ... Show more content on

Therefore the age of an eyewitness is an important point to note when considering the accuracy of
eyewitness identification, especially with the case of very young children providing significantly
inferior accuracy than adults if questioned incorrectly. When children are questioned in the same
method as adults, misinterpretation and errors can weaken the child s credibility and the accuracy of
their testimony. The fact however remains that eyewitness testimony can be beneficial if caution is
exercised when interviewing children so as to not repeat questions, suggest information, or allow for
interviewer assumptions and/or bias.
As well as age, the gender of an eyewitness has been consistently linked to issues with the accuracy
and consistency of evidence. Jacqueline and Wolfgang (1986) referenced one of the earliest empirical
studies of gender differences in eyewitness testimony, that of William Stern (1903 1904) with the
opinion that women s eyewitness testimony was less accurate and less resistant to the influence of
misleading information than men s (Pg. 565). Research has since revealed a female advantage in the
number of details, and the accuracy of memory recall when providing eyewitness testimony. A study
undertaken by Areh (2011) states gender is one of the factors significantly influencing memory recall
(Pg. 559). The study concentrated on sex differences in the accuracy and quantity of memory recall for
specific details of an event (Pg. 559).

My Favorite Trip At The Royal Palace Of Henry Viii
What a great weekend, I do not know which was my favorite event. One minute I was at the Royal
Palace of Henry VIII and another minute I was in Stonehenge. No matter what happen, I will
remember this weekend for the rest of my life. Thursday, we all woke up really early to travel to the
Royal Palace of Henry VIII. Our tour guide Heather, gave us the entire tour of the place. My favorite
part of the tour was the clock due to the fact it was a 24 hour clock telling which day, month, and
season it is. After the tour, we had two hours of free time and most of us wanted to see Henry VIII
toilet and all I can say is that toilets during that time was different than the ones now. When we all saw
the toilet, all the frat boys decided to go to the maze and we all race find the exit, which took us three
times longer since we passed by it three time. At the end, we all admit that Ryan Straub Fisher beat all
of us. Following a morning run, I decided to chow down on my first Fish Chips which the fish was so
tender and the batter was cooked spot on. After lunch, we were taken on a long bus journey to
Holbrook house where we are all going to stay for two nights. Tour guide Heather gave us an etiquette
dinner lesson, so they next time I dine with British people, I know what to expect. During dinner we
decided to dress up nicely and that dinner was a fabulous start to my weekend. After a wonderful
selection of Canapes and an Amuse Bouche, Our appetizer was a Wild Mushroom Veloute with

  • 2. JRR Tolkien JRR Tolkien, commonly credited as the father of fantasy , has developed a unique and individualistic plot set in middle earth a land of elves, fairies and all that is mystical. Tolkien, a linguist and professor, used literature to create various parallels between his life and the events in his novels. J.R.R Tolkien was inspired by World War I British society, his education, and Roman Catholicism when writing his fantasy novels, such as The Hobbit and The Silmarillion. John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born in South Africa on January 3, 1892 to Arthur Reuel Tolkien and Mabel Suffield. Arthur and Mabel were English and proudly so therefore when Arthur died on the 15th of February, 1896, the Tolkiens moved to the West Midlands in England. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Industrialization occurred in Britain in the 1750s due to the environmental and social climate prime for mechanization in industries. Due to the change in economic exportations from agricultural to mechanized products, Britain s society began to change as people migrated to work in factories. The migration of the newfound middleclass led to mass urbanization of various areas in England which contrasted the previous quintessential English countryside that had dominated the nation. Through the expansion of mechanical goods, the countryside lost land to factories and the environment was also deeply affected by the influx of smoke climbing into the air. Contrary to the environmental problems, the British were experienced economic glory as the became a superpower in the advancing technologies. Through the industrialization, Britain would develop advanced war machines and would vastly change British society hundreds of years later in 20th century London. JRR Tolkien was profoundly affected by industrialization throughout his time in World War I. Beginning in 1915, Tolkien was enlisted in the war but it did take much time for him to leave: in November of the same year he was sent back to London because he was diagnosed with Trench fever. Although he soon recovered from the illness by christmas it was recurring through 1917 to 1918. Despite this epidemic, Tolkien continued to make camp visits to various army bases in London. In a particular visit to the Hull area, Tolkien and Edith had been walking in the woods when Edith danced for him in a place filled of hemlock. This inspired Tolkien in the Legendarium or The Silmarillion as is is now known, as he described the tale of Beren and Luthien. Furthermore, the warfare in World War I inspired his descriptions of the Wars that take place within the Silmarillion. World ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Physiological Response To Exercise Analysis Marathon running has been associated with a number of physiological lapses that occurs when the body and the organs can no longer sustain itself. Specifically ultra marathon running especially in the heat. Exercise in the heat is a physiologically challenging for the function of the cardiovascular (González Alonso Calbet 2003), thermoregulatory system (Johnson 2010; González Alonso et al. 2008; González Alonso 2012). Thus exposure to prolonged exercise in the heat that increases the body temperature increases the risk of heat illnesses (Armstrong et al. 2007) such as acute heat exhaustion/syncope which range from acute to chronical which can eventually lead to death such as heat stroke. There is research evidence suggesting that NO plays a vital role within the coronary and the peripheral hemodynamic by increasing the peripheral perfusion control and metabolic regulations during exercise (Pinna et al. 2014) and therefore reduces the physiological responses to exercise. Specifically NO has been reported to assist in the thermoregulation system, by increasing the blood flow and muscle contractibility and maintaining glucose level (Cermak et al. 2012). Clementi Nisoli (2005); Nisoli et al., (2004) reported that exposure of cells to NO stimulates mitochondria biogenesis (Kingwell, 2000). Ingestion of ~500ml per day of beetroot juice has been reported to reduce pulmonary oxygen uptake (V̇ O₂) during submaximal exercise and increase tolerance of high intensity work rates (Pinna et al. 2014), suggesting that nitrate can be a potent ergogenic aid. However, research is still missing regrading effect of nitrate ingestion on athletic performance (Lansley, et al. 2011) study found that the when 140ml of beetroot juice was ingested per day for six days during a 60 minute cycling time trial had, and 10km time trial; the beetroot group performed better compared to the placebo group which was administered with nitrate depleted beetroot juice. Quantitative research utilizes statistical analysis by breaking down components of observation that are compared to other elements (Bergman, M. M., 2008). Qualitative research focuses on investigating the participant s range of behavior, usually with small groups, which results in descriptive analysis (Bergman M. M., 2008). Couponing takes a lot of time and most people choose not to bother and end up paying a higher price for the exact same product at the same store. Should couponing even be legal? Customer rebates are another questionable practice we will discuss as we delve into this topic of price discrimination, price elasticity and monopolistic competition. Most people that coupon are looking for lower prices or a better deal, but aren t we all? Couponing is time consuming and not everyone has the time to save the money they would like, and a person could say that this is an unfair practice. Coupons are a very effective way to price discriminate. Customers who are very responsive to price changes that is, customers with a very elastic demand are likely to take time to find coupons that effectively lower the good s price. On the other hand, customers less responsive to price changes because of their less elastic demand aren t as likely to take the time to find coupons. Graham, R. J. (n.d.). Going under the assumption that only people who absolutely need to save money are the only ones who coupons, is that fair? One would say that it is. If a person really wants to save money, they can clip coupons as well. The couponing practice is not discriminatory as far as who can clip coupons, it is just discriminatory as to who will actually do it. I, personally, should use more coupons, but the time it takes to clip them out and finding the product that the product is for is too time consuming for me. Granny Cooper, Sarah Cooper, and Ruth Simmons do not seem to have a major role, but they are not just minor characters. Granny Cooper is the mother of Moses Cooper and the grandmother of Adam Cooper. Even though Granny never picked up a gun the entire book, she is still a very important character within the story. Comparing Jocasta In The Odyssey And Oedipus Most seems to enjoy tight casting female characters through two tropes: either the damsel in distress waiting for her knight in shining armor to save her, or a tough, power indulged witch who s only concern is herself. Very few times (and by even fewer male authors) will a female character be written as a medium between the two extremes. This problem has been occurring for centuries almost, even being found in literature dating back to B.C., with Penelope from Homer s The Odyssey and Jocasta from Sophocles Oedipus Rex : Penelope being written as the damsel with hundreds of suitors vying for her attention, all while desperately weaving and waiting day in and day out for her true love to come home; Jocasta as this harsh women who only wants to be around when everything is working to her advantage. Then there s Antigone, who stands up for her morals against Thebes without so much as batting an eye. The Odyssey tells the story of Odysseus, ruler of Ithaca who has been lost out at sea for the past 20 years after the Trojan war. At home waiting is his son Telemachus and his wife Penelope. • 10. Data Analysis And Data Mining The exponentially increasing amounts of data being generated each year make getting useful information from that data more and more critical. The information frequently is stored in a data warehouse, a repository of data gathered from various sources, including corporate databases, summarized information from internal systems, and data from external sources. Analysis of the data includes simple query and reporting, statistical analysis, more complex multidimensional analysis, and data mining. Data analysis and data mining are a subset of business intelligence (BI), which also incorporates data warehousing, database management systems, and Online. The technologies are frequently used in customer relationship management (CRM) to analyze patterns and query customer databases. Large quantities of data are searched and analyzed to discover useful patterns or relationships, which are then used to predict future behavior. Some estimates indicate that the amount of new information doubles every three years. To deal with the mountains of data, the information is stored in a repository of data gathered from various sources, including corporate databases, summarized information from internal systems, and data from external sources. For example, lactovegetarians will consume dairy, and lacto ovovegetarians will consume both dairy and eggs. Lastly, semivegetarians will consume fish but no meat or poultry. It is not known when vegetarianism started, but oldest record dates to the 6th century BC in Europe. A group of religious followers of the Orphic mysteries banned sacrificing animals and the consumption of any animal product. In Greece, Pythagoras was developing ideas that linked meat consumption and reincarnation, and this ultimately caused some to avoid consuming meat. This lead to a phenomenon called that Pythagorean way of life which was practiced by other philosophers and writers until the 19th century. The reasons for switching to a vegetarian diet was similar to some mentioned today. The ancient Greeks believed that like humans, animals could communicate and think, and humans were responsible to care for the animals. In addition, the Greeks believed that consuming meat was impacted the mind and health. This lead them to think that a plant based diet cleansed the soul and aligned them closer to god. Once data has been encoded into a given radio carrier, all one has to do to extract the information is have a receiver tuned into one specific frequency, while rejecting all others. He begged for her hand in marriage, but soon after they were wed, he queried whether Georgiana had ever considered having the birthmark removed. She was hurt by the implication that the mark depreciated her and grew upset with her husband. As time passed, Aylmer continued to stare at the mark, unable to keep his eyes from wandering to it. While both sides have their differences, they also have some similarities. For example, both viewpoints deal with racial disparity. On top of that, both are using police data and official statistics to prove their points. Those two points are the only two spots where both sides overlap. On top of that, the author of chapter fifteen offers a comparison of the data involving black drivers to data involving white ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Mechanism Of Orange Juice Deaeration Decanter Figure 9, is fed with the blurred orange juice Figure 10 then clear orange juice and pomace of oranges are gained at the end of the process. Figure 10. Mechanism of a decanter Deaeration Prior to pasteurization, orange juice is deaerated because the presence of dissolved oxygen effects on color, flavor and most importantly vitamin C. One of the key steps of orange juice processing is deaeration since vitamin C has high sensitivity of oxygen. Removing air from orange juice provides to minimize oxidative reactions such as oxidation of ascorbic acid and flavor compounds, and also to decrease corrosion if the package of juice is made of metal. In addition to this point, the ascorbic acid content of orange juice is also affected by high oxygen permeability containers. Another negative effect of oxygen is giving a brown color. During orange juice processing there are some possibilities of entraining air during pumping, mixing and tank filling. The product quality can be improved by vacuum deaerator Figure 11. The capacity of the equipment is 3 tons/hour. Residual O2 levels below 0.5 1.0 mg/L depending on product. Figure 11. Deaerator machine set Pasteurization Escherichia coli O157:H7 can grow in fruit juices with pH greater than 4. Since pH of orange juice is less than 4, E. Coli is not a key microorganism for orange juice. The outbreaks in orange juice have been caused by Salmonella spp. which is related with unpasturized orange juice. Hence, Salmonella is ... • 30. Oppression Of Gender Roles In Wonder Woman By Christian Stoic Like I previously mentioned, the genre of action and adventure is so diverse, and there are so many heroines and female characters, it is hard to argue that women in action roles strictly have a negative impact on female viewers. Also, it would be completely inappropriate to argue that women in lead action roles have no positive impacts on female viewers. As society continues to advance, female heroines are also evolving and moving further away from the traditionally hypersexualized characters. Instead, these heroines are easier for women to identify with, they are extremely strong and independent female leads, and they are dressed more practically/appropriately. A few examples of these new age action heroines include Jessica Jones, Alicia ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that there is still a lot of work that needs to be done when it comes to female heroines, and I hope that in time (sooner rather than later) these women heroines will serve strictly to empower and inspire women of all ages. One reason that these heroines are sexualized and dumbed down more often than not might be due to the lack of equality in terms of male and female directors. In an article written by Yohana Desta, it states that There are about 23.8 male directors for every female director (Desta 2017), and also that Women were more likely to direct dramas, and less likely to direct science fiction or action films which are, imperatively, often the most successful and lucrative genres in the business (Desta 2017). Since these lead female roles are written and created mainly by men and not women, they are more aimed at a male audience. This is most likely why these women s bodies are focused on more than making these characters into well rounded heroines that could serve to inspire women. I believe that in order to transition from these heroines negatively impacting females, to these heroines serving to empower women, there first needs to be an increase in the number of female directors in Hollywood. I also feel that male directors should use women such as Jessica Jones or the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Examples Of Insanity In Literature Insanity and Its Effects on the Mind We are all born mad. Some remain so. Samuel Beckett quoted this from his play Waiting for Godot which is about two men who keep returning to a particular tree waiting for the same person to come, but he never does. The definition of insanity, best described by Albert Einstein, is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results. Insanity comes up in all aspects of the daily human lives. In the short stories The Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allan Poe and A Rose of Emily by William Faulkner, both authors show how insanity can effect one s well being and daily routines. In each story the author presents the theme of insanity by having the protagonist hold on to the bodies of their dead family members, cut off communication from the outside world, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both of the protagonist had cut themselves off from the outside world and most communication. Emily s never leaves her home after the strange disappearance of Homer. In fact, the story states that the women mostly out of curiosity to see the inside of her house, which no one save an old man servant a combined gardener and cook had seen in at least ten years, (Faulkner 628). Emily had not let anyone come into her house for the past ten years, which is not something most people will do. Humans need contact with others in order to function normally. The Usher family had a different way of cutting off the outside world. They never married outside of the family tree. This cut ties with the community due to their secluded house and no need to go anywhere. Keith Neilson describes the isolation like this, Usher becomes so lopsided that his prolonged isolation, ..., drives him to the edge of madness; along with the narrator, the reader sees him go over the edge, (Neilson). • 32. Biography on Sir George Gabriel Stokes SIR GEORGE GABRIEL STOKES Sir George Gabriel Stokes, 1st Baronet, was an Irish physicist, mathematician, politician and theologian. He was born on 13 August 1819, in Ireland, as the youngest son in the eight children of a very religious Protestant family. His father Gabriel Stokes was the rector of Skreen; and his mother, Elizabeth Haughton, was the daughter of John Haugton, the rector of Kilrea, County Londonderry He first educated in Dublin, Ireland, and later he was sent to England where he continued his education. He spent two years in Bristol College, which played an important role in his later studies at Cambridge. In 1837 he became a student at Pembroke College, Cambridge and stayed there for the rest of his life. Stokes did not limit himself with the current curriculum; along with mathematics, Newtonian gravitational theory and the new wave theory of light, he was also interested in theological books. He graduated from there as senior wrangler, which is the best rank for a mathematical undergraduate at Cambridge (even timely it was called as the greatest intellectual achievement attainable in Britain ); and also won the Smith s Prize which was an annual award for research students in mathematics, applied mathematics and theoretical physics. University of Cambridge was also the place where he attended his Lucasian professorship, which was before a title of Newton too. After graduating, he joined the fellowship at Pembroke College which he had to resign few years ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Eyewitness Testimony, Helpful or Hinderance Eyewitness evidence can be fundamental when it comes to solving crimes, however, with the increasing number of cases now being exonerated by DNA evidence, the questions lies, what degree of confidence should be placed on the evidence of the eyewitnesses alone? Countless factors are associated with the accuracy and consistency of eyewitness evidence, such as line up content, line up instructions, the questioning techniques of interviewers and notably the gender and/or age of the witness. Eyewitness testimony may not always be accurate, but despite its weaknesses, by using empirical studies to guide reforms, eyewitness testimony can be an extremely beneficial instrument in the criminal justice system. Inaccurate evidence is not necessarily ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore the age of an eyewitness is an important point to note when considering the accuracy of eyewitness identification, especially with the case of very young children providing significantly inferior accuracy than adults if questioned incorrectly. When children are questioned in the same method as adults, misinterpretation and errors can weaken the child s credibility and the accuracy of their testimony. The fact however remains that eyewitness testimony can be beneficial if caution is exercised when interviewing children so as to not repeat questions, suggest information, or allow for interviewer assumptions and/or bias. As well as age, the gender of an eyewitness has been consistently linked to issues with the accuracy and consistency of evidence. Jacqueline and Wolfgang (1986) referenced one of the earliest empirical studies of gender differences in eyewitness testimony, that of William Stern (1903 1904) with the opinion that women s eyewitness testimony was less accurate and less resistant to the influence of misleading information than men s (Pg. 565). Research has since revealed a female advantage in the number of details, and the accuracy of memory recall when providing eyewitness testimony. A study undertaken by Areh (2011) states gender is one of the factors significantly influencing memory recall (Pg. 559). The study concentrated on sex differences in the accuracy and quantity of memory recall for specific details of an event (Pg. 559). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. My Favorite Trip At The Royal Palace Of Henry Viii What a great weekend, I do not know which was my favorite event. One minute I was at the Royal Palace of Henry VIII and another minute I was in Stonehenge. No matter what happen, I will remember this weekend for the rest of my life. Thursday, we all woke up really early to travel to the Royal Palace of Henry VIII. Our tour guide Heather, gave us the entire tour of the place. My favorite part of the tour was the clock due to the fact it was a 24 hour clock telling which day, month, and season it is. After the tour, we had two hours of free time and most of us wanted to see Henry VIII toilet and all I can say is that toilets during that time was different than the ones now. When we all saw the toilet, all the frat boys decided to go to the maze and we all race find the exit, which took us three times longer since we passed by it three time. At the end, we all admit that Ryan Straub Fisher beat all of us. Following a morning run, I decided to chow down on my first Fish Chips which the fish was so tender and the batter was cooked spot on. After lunch, we were taken on a long bus journey to Holbrook house where we are all going to stay for two nights. Tour guide Heather gave us an etiquette dinner lesson, so they next time I dine with British people, I know what to expect. During dinner we decided to dress up nicely and that dinner was a fabulous start to my weekend. After a wonderful selection of Canapes and an Amuse Bouche, Our appetizer was a Wild Mushroom Veloute with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
