A Sermon Series on 1 Peter
“Can We Really Live a Holy Life?”
1 Peter 1:13 - 2:10
It is not easy to live in this world and maintain a holy life. But with God
… all things are possible!!
In 1 Peter 1:13-21, Peter encourages us to live the holy life by
realizing:
1. The Glory of God in our lives (1:13)
Therefore, once you have your minds ready for action and you are
thinking clearly, place your hope completely on the grace that will be
brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed.
2. The Holiness of God (1:14-15)
Don't be conformed to your former desires, those that shaped you when
you were ignorant. But, as obedient children, you must be holy in every
aspect of your lives, just as the one who called you is holy.
3. The Truth of God’s Word (1:16)
It is written, You will be holy, because I am holy…

2. 4. The Truth of God’s Judgment (1:17)
Since you call upon a Father who judges all people according to their
actions without favoritism, you should conduct yourselves with
reverence during the time of your dwelling in a strange land.
5. The Unconditional Love of God (1:18-21)
Live in this way, knowing that you were not liberated by perishable
things like silver or gold from the empty lifestyle you inherited from
your ancestors. Instead you were liberated by the precious blood of
Christ, like that of a flawless, spotless lamb. Christ was chosen before
the creation of the world, but was only revealed at the end of time.
This was done for you, who through Christ are faithful to the God who
raised him from the dead and gave him glory. So now, your faith and
hope should rest in God.
God’s Holy People Love One Another!!
In 1 Peter 1:22 – 2:10, Peter describes Christian Unity:
1. We are Children in the same family… (1:22-2:3)
We’ve experienced the same birth (1:23-25)
We express the same love (1:22)
We enjoy the same spiritual food… God’s Word (2:1-3)
2. We are stones of the same Spiritual Temple (2:4-8)
3. We are priests of the same Spiritual Temple (2:5,9)
4. We are citizens of the same holy nation (2:9-10)

Our church sewing group is collecting fleece to
make hats for Operation Nightwatch in Seattle.
If you have fleece you can donate, please bring
it to the church office.

6. Warm Greetings Espresso Stand
We’re looking for coffee-loving, people-loving volunteers to working the
church coffee stand. Commitment can be weekly, monthly, or as
needed, with after Service help most needed. Youth 14 and older are

The Woodinville Storehouse Food Bank serves our community by serving
practical needs, building relationships, and joining people in prayer. As
part of Mission Emphasis, we have launched a drive to re-stock our
shelves with 1,000 non-perishable items. A weekly donation shopping
list of needed items in always shown in our church bulletin and in this
newsletter.

Outdoor Adventures
Get on Board with Outdoor Adventures as we
board the Mount Rainier Scenic Railroad,
Saturday, September 28.

8. The train operates on a scenic route from Elbe to Mineral. The ride lasts
about 40 minutes each way. We spend approximately 45 minutes at our
destination during regular excursions before returning to the depot. At
the destination in Mineral, there is a collection of historic logging
locomotives, rail cards, and equipment and camp buildings. Allow 2
hours for regular excursions.
We will carpool from the church at 9:00 AM, returning about 5:00 PM.
Cost: $25 - Male checks payable to the church with OA-Train on the
memo line. You can bring a lunch to eat on the train or purchase one
there.
Please sign up in the foyer as space may be limited.
Would you consider making an impact in the life of a student?
We are looking for help with the youth ministry to pour the love of Jesus
Christ into the lives of students aged 10-16. The latest Barna Study
indicates that nearly half (43%) of all Americans who accept Jesus Christ
as their Savior do so before the age of 13. Almost two out of three (64%)
of born-again Christians made that commitment to Christ before their
18th birthday.
You can help in many ways:

Lead weekly Crossfire events - play games, eat together, share
the Gospel
Pray for our students
Teach "tweeners' Sunday School once a month
