Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat
down. His disciples came to him, 2
and he began to teach them,
saying: 3
"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of
heaven. 4
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
God’s Kingdom vs kingdom of this world
The Greek word used in Matthew 5:5 is Πραΰς (praus) which can be
translated as “gentle, humble, considerate”

2. Meekness is STRENGTH under SUBMISSION
Philippians 2:4-8

Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to
the interests of others. 5
Your attitude should be the same as that of
Christ Jesus: 6
Who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard
equality with God as something to be exploited, 7
but emptied
himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human
likeness. And being found in human form, 8
he humbled himself and
became obedient to the point of death-- even death on a cross.
Scriptural meekness is not weak, but God-controlled... a person
completely surrendered to Jesus Christ
Meekness relates to character… it is learned and practiced until it
becomes a part of our identity as we are born again and grow as
disciples.
John 12:24-26

I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and
dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many
seeds. 25
The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who
hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

“Inheriting the earth” deals not with territorial or material gain,
but rather a divine quality of life on earth. The meek inherit:
- True Friends
- Peace of mind
- Godly knowledge/wisdom
- God-given abilities and personalities
- Christ confidence
For Personal or Group Reflection
1. How have you thought about meekness before?
Was it positive or negative?
2. Is meekness something you aspire to? Why or why not?
3. What will becoming meek require you to unlearn from your
former way of being?
4. Reflect on the difference between striving for something
and receiving it as a gift.

Work as a Holy Calling - May 14
On Saturday, 14 May at 09:00-10:20, Dave Noll will lead the initial
session of a mid-sized group we are calling “Work as a Holy Calling.”
The goal for this gathering is to talk together about living as a
follower of Jesus in our work life. We want to build on the great
sessions we had last fall talking through this topic. I think we were
all so encouraged by this time and want to continue.
• Who: This is open to men and women who are in the workplace.
• When: 14 May at 09:00-10:20
• Where: Either upstairs in the Gathering Place or downstairs in the
fellowship room.
• Food: We will have bagels, coffee and tea, fruit, and instant
oatmeal and fixings. Lite breakfast.
• Childcare: We will offer childcare.

6. Vacation Bible School - July 19 - 21
On July 19 21, we'll go deep into God's Word together. We need
volunteers to lead groups, organize games, tell Bible stories, create
crafts, feed masses and decorate.
This will be a 3-day evening VBS.
5:30 - Dinner
6:20 - Opening
8:30 - Closing
This is a VBS where families can et involved and work together with
their children.
Ages - Pre-school to 5th Grade
Cost: FREE.

2016 Baby Bottle Campaign
Our Spring Baby Bottle Campaign benefittng Care Net Pregnancy &
Family Services of Puget Sound begins today. Pick up an empty
bottle and fill it with spare change. Return on Father's Day.

Church Staff Opening
Woodinville Community U.M. Church is looking for enthusiastic
Director of Children’s Ministry who will lead our Children’s Ministry
for ages birth through fifth grade. This person will provide direction
and vision for the Children’s Ministry team; recruit, train and develop
leaders in this ministry area; provide oversight for children’s Sunday
School and Children’s Church, summer programs and special events.
This is a part-time position: 25 hours per week.
Requirements:
1. Give testimony and life witness of (1) being a committed believer
in
Jesus Christ, (2) spiritual gifts relevant to leadership of this ministry,
and (3) a deep genuine love for children and young families.
2. Preferably have an educational background in Christian Ministries
or related field, or ministry experience that is appropriate to these
responsibilities, along with a continuous desire to be learning in
order to become a more effective leader of children and young
families.
3. Be a stable, mature and growing Christian.
4. Have a desire to teach and mentor children with patience and an
accepting heart.
5. Be committed to teamwork within the Children’s Ministry
Department
as well as with other staff and lay leaders within the church.
6. Understand the culture of the times and provide a relevant
teaching
mechanism to communicate with children in an age-appropriate
manner.
