This weekend’s Gospel brings to a close a 3-part story that we have been listening to these past weeks focused on discipleship, evangelization...and rest. But when Jesus takes his disciples off to a deserted place, he finds that many of the followers have taken a short cut on land and have arrived at his destination before him. So, what to do? How to respond? And what does this Gospel show us about the importance of downtime? Maybe some wisdom from Ron Rolheiser, John of the Cross and my dad may bring some light to all of this! Check it out…

What Should be the Christian View of Anime?Joe Muraguri
We will learn what Anime is and see what a Christian should consider before watching anime movies? We will also learn a little bit of Shintoism religion and hentai (the craze of internet pornography today).
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.
The Book of Joshua is the sixth book in the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament, and is the first book of the Deuteronomistic history, the story of Israel from the conquest of Canaan to the Babylonian exile.

“A Tale of Two Sons... and a Loving Father”
A Sermon Series from Luke 15
“The Reckless Son and the
Loving Father”
Luke 15:11-24
WE ALL HAVE SINNED!!
Romans 3:23
All have sinned and fall short of God’s glory
Luke 15:11-16
Jesus said, “A certain man had two sons. 12
The younger son said to
his father, ‘Father, give me my share of the inheritance.’ Then the
father divided his estate between them. 13
Soon afterward, the
younger son gathered everything together and took a trip to a land
far away. There, he wasted his wealth through extravagant living.
14
“When he had used up his resources, a severe food shortage arose
2. in that country and he began to be in need. 15
He hired himself out to
one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to
feed pigs. 16
He longed to eat his fill from what the pigs ate, but no
one gave him anything.
We all have a choice as to whether we will confess and repent
Luke 15:17-20a
When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired
hands have more than enough food, but I’m starving to death! 18
I will
get up and go to my father, and say to him, “Father, I have sinned
against heaven and against you. 19
I no longer deserve to be called
your son. Take me on as one of your hired hands.” ’ 20
So he got up
and went to his father.
The Father had a choice as to whether he would extend grace to
his son
Luke 15:20b-24
While he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was moved
with compassion. His father ran to him, hugged him, and kissed him.
21
Then his son said, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against
you. I no longer deserve to be called your son.’ 22
But the father said
to his servants, ‘Quickly, bring out the best robe and put it on him!
Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet! 23
Fetch the fattened
calf and slaughter it. We must celebrate with feasting 24
because this
son of mine was dead and has come back to life! He was lost and is
found!’ And they began to celebrate.
For Personal or Group Reflection
1. Did you ever run away from home or from a family
relationship? Explain.
2. Reflect on the stages that the young son went through on his
journey. What brought him to his senses? What does he realize
then? With what attitude does he approach his father?
3. What do you think the Father was doing when his son was
away? Why? How does the Father receive his son?
4. If you had to compare your spiritual journey to the son’s journey,
where are you now?
5. What does this story teach about sin, repentance, and God’s
grace?

An Important Message from
the WCUMC Trustees
The Trustees Committee has recommended that we
replace the 50-year-old oil-fired boiler (converted to
natural gas in the 90’s) with two hi-efficiency gas-
fired furnaces to heat the Gathering Place and the Celebration Hall.
This will be much more efficient and enable us to heat the two areas
independently.
The cost of the project is estimated at $45,000 and we are asking
the congregation to fund half of it.
Since winter is fast approaching, there is some urgency in acquiring
these funds so that the contractor can get started by early October.
Thank you.

This virtue has been wrapped in clichés, stamped on coffee mugs,
and sewn on decorative pillows. Through storytelling, humor, and
difficult diagnosis, Margaret Feinberg shows how joy is more than
whimsy; it's the weaponry you need to fight life's greatest battles.
In this 6-session Bible Stud, you will learn how to:
Expand your joy threshold by awakening to God's fierce love
for you.
6. Escape fear and regret by applying Biblical truths to whatever
crisis you are facing.
Discover freedom from the past by learning how to turn
mourning into joy.
Rise about your circumstances and become more winsome,
cheerful, and thankful.
Join us for coffee in the Gathering Place at 9:15/

Vanishing Grace
What Ever Happened To The Good
News?
As much as we may want others to know the
good news of forgiveness and experience the
hope of a redeemed life, the good news isn't sounding so good to
many people these days. Bestselling author, Phillip Yancey, explores
why favorable opinions of Christianity have plummeted, and opinions
of Evangelicals have fallen even more.
In this study, we will explore what we can do to make sure that the
good news is indeed good. And we will hear illuminating stories of
how faith can be expressed in ways that disarm even the most cynical
critics.
This 11-week study begins on September 13, and will include videos,
group discussion, and activities that can be done between sessions to
bring this important lesson to life. It is highly recommended that you
buy the hardcover book prior to the start of class to gain the fullest
enjoyment from this study.
