This document discusses and compares quick response manufacturing (QRM) and just-in-time (JIT) manufacturing. QRM focuses on reducing lead times throughout operations to improve quality, reduce costs, and eliminate waste. It builds on JIT principles by also incorporating a laser-like focus on lead time reduction and using metrics like Manufacturing Critical-path Time to measure lead times. JIT, also known as the Toyota Production System, minimizes inventory and increases efficiency by receiving materials and parts as needed to reduce costs and inventory levels. For both to succeed requires steady production, high quality, reliable machinery and suppliers.
