There are four main types of computers according to size and speed: super computers, mainframe computers, mini computers, and micro computers. Super computers are the largest, fastest, and most expensive, able to perform over 1 trillion calculations per second. Mainframe computers are less powerful than super computers but more so than other types, used mainly for networking by banks, hospitals, and universities. Mini computers are also known as midsize or low-end mainframes, designed for industrial and small business use. Micro computers are the smallest and least expensive, including desktops, laptops, and PDAs.
