The form of a noun used
to show there are more
than one. Most nouns
simply add –s or –es to the
end to become plural.
Here are the eight
(8) rules in forming
in plural of nouns.
1. Most nouns from
their plural by adding –
s.
•Nation – Nations
•Car – Cars
•Apple – Apples
•Book - Books
School
Schools
2. For nouns that ends
in s, ss, ch and x.
Simple add –es.
•Gas – Gases
•Glass – Glasses
•Box – Boxes
•Dish – Dishes
Church
Churches
3. For nouns that end in
y preceded by a
consonant, change y to
“i” and add – es.
•Pony – Ponies
•Baby – Babies
•Story – Stories
•Country – Countries
Sky
Skies
4. For nouns that end
in y, preceded by a
vowel, simple add –s.
•Monkey – Monkeys
•Day – days
•Boy – Boys
•Donkey – donkeys

Joys
5. For some nouns
ending in o add only –s. if
the preceded is vowels.
•Zoo – Zoos
•Radio – Radios

But for some cases, its
ends in o the preceded
is consonant, add – es.
•Hero – Heroes
•Echo – echoes

6. For nouns ending in
“f” or “fe”, change f or
“fe” to v and add –es.
•Wife – wives
•Knife – Knives
There are some few
exemption some
merely add – s.
•Roof – Roofs
•Belief - Beliefs
•Dwarf – Dwarfs
7. There are few
common and highly
irregular plural.
•Ox –Oxen
•Man – Men
•Tooth – Teeth
•Mouse – Mice

8. There are also a few
nouns that have same
form for the singular
and plural.
•Sheep – Sheep
•Moose – Moose
•Deer – Deer
