In this lesson we will learn more about the plural
rules.
It is important to know the different plural rules,
because not every Word changes the same way.
Remember that when we write we need to follow
the correct form of speech and make the necessary
changes.
Add “s” or “es”
For the regular nouns, the basic plural rule is to
add “s” or “es” at the end of the Word.
For example:
School ---- schools
College ----- college
Dog ----- dogs
Cat ---- cats
Car ---- cars
Book ---- books
Nouns with a “Y”
For the nouns ending with a consonant + y, like
the Word BABY, we change the Y to an I and add
“es”.
For example:
Baby ----- babies
Pony ---- ponies
Lady ----- ladies
Activity ----- activities
Allergy ---- allergies
Nouns with a “Y”
For the nouns ending with vowel + Y, like the
Word TOY, we just add “s”.
For example:
Toy ------ toys
Boy ----- boys
Key ----- keys
Day --- days
Turkey ---- turkeys
Trolley ---- trolleys
Nouns with “ch”,
“sh”, “ss”, “x”
For nouns ending with “ch”, “sh”, “ss”, “x”, like
watch, Kiss, box, bush, we add “es”.
For example:
Watch --- watches
Kiss ---- kisses
Box --- boxes
Bush ------ bushes
Nouns with “f”, “fe”
For nouns ending with “f” or “fe”, like knife, Wolf,
we change F to V and ass “es”.
For example:
Knife ----- knives
Wolf ---- wolves
Shelf ----- shelves
Life ----- lives
Leaf ---- leaves
Wife ---- wives
Nouns with “o”
For nouns ending with a consonant + O, like
tomato, potato, add “es” or “s” (it can depend on
the word.
For example:

Hero ----- heroes
Photo ----- photos
Kilo ------ kilos
Nouns with “o”
For nouns ending with a vowel + O, like radio, add
“s”.

Irregular nouns
For certain nouns there are no rules to change
from the singular to the plural. With these words,
they can have different structures and different
changes.
