  1. Hi Everyone!    Welcome to Seesmic's first of many webinar series. Today we will be walking you through getting started with Seesmic Desktop. We'll be sure to take everyone's questions at the end of today's webinar.   Any additional information such as a copy of today's slides and chat transcripts will be available at a later date, and we will email all attendees with this information. So let's get started!
  2. So what is Seesmic Desktop? It's a highly customizable social media dashboard application for you and your brand to utilize.   Silverlight - Seesmic Desktop runs on Microsoft's Silverlight which ensures you can download and install the desktop application across Mac and PC platforms. Our desktop application runs on the latest version of Silverlight so be sure to check the URL listed here to ensure you have the latest version installed. Default Plugins and features - Seesmic Desktop also has over 70 plugins which is growing everyday! Some of the plugins that come preloaded with the desktop application are (open SD 2 and marketplace in the app and scroll through the plugins available ): Bing, bit.ly, Facebook, Foursquare, Foursquare places, Google Buzz, Image Previewer, is.gd (url shortener), Klout,LinkedIn, migre.me (URL shortener), ping.fm, Plixi(or Lockerz),Salesforce Chatter, Translator, Twitlonger, Twitter, yfrog More about Plugins - So you might be asking yourself. What is a plugin exactly? A plugin can either be a service such as (show twitter or FB timeline in SD) Twitter or Facebook where you can add your account and manage your account timeline. Or a plugin can be a feature such as bing maps (show bing maps in a geo location tweet) which shows you the location of tweets which have geo location tweets enabled, or try out klout (show klout on twitter stream) which automatically shows you the klout score and information right within the tweet.
  3. Alright now that we have a sense of what Seesmic Desktop is let's try to put this altogether and apply this to some cases in which Seesmic Desktop can help our users. Here we have the case of using Seesmic Desktop for a Community Manager.   Stay relevant and on top of your game - Every brand needs to keep an eye on the competition to see how they can improve. They also need to be aware on how other brands are approaching the same community as you are. Here are some tips on how a community manager can get a leg up on this game. Set up basic Twitter searches. It's simple and easy to see real-time user generated content about a brand. You are not just googling information about a brand but rather you are looking at what your users are saying about your brand. Here a Seesmic community manager will create searches for: Events: google io to track new relevant information engage with users at this event keep in touch with your team. Twitter Facebook Salesforce Chatter Plugins to use: Twitter - monitor and track engagement on Twitter account & community Facebook -monitor and track engagement on Facebook account & community. create and track marketing strategies and contest opportunities LinkedIn - keep up with professional network and opportuniities Klout - Prioritize reported issues and recognize key influencers  Zendesk - Keep track of support requests here Chatter - keep up with company 'water cooler' chatter or take a reported issue or lead offline and discuss internally how to follow up. Google Reader - keep up with relevant content like community management, events, product reviews, user sentiment. Translation - provide support in multiple languages easily

Competition - Similar to the searches set up by a community manager at Seesmic, except this time we're looking at direct competitors of Seesmic Java. Its not just about coffee as Seesmic Java sets out to expand its food items as well but other brands such as Dunkin Donuts and McDonald's are competitively priced so we would need to watch this community closely. Plugins to use -  Twitter, facebook, Klout -again to reach out monitor, and manage these communities. using klout to see key influencers that can promote your brand Chatter/Yammer - internal company conversations Google reader - to keep up on relevant content as well as read up on customer interests Translation - multi language support and engagement Gowalla/foursquare - view who is checking in where, with who, what time of the day, maybe taking advantage of check-in deals that Seesmic Java offers? Stocktwits - keep track of coffee prices and competitors to stay in the game USA Today - current events and how this impacts your target audience Formspring - used as an outlet to engage with your target audience as well as get free feedback on new items or current products. Customers can ask you questions here as well.
