Back to the future with simple wholesale services nowADVA
The past few months have shown that networks are essential for all of us, and it’s clear that we need to rethink how we build and use them. The digitization of all ecosystems will be a key part of the “new normal,” and efforts to digitize networks need to accelerate. It’s also now important for service providers to team up to address changing requirements. Is charging for network usage becoming essential? What new technologies are emerging that will enable us to do more with less and at a faster pace? In his NAMEX 2020 workshop, Christoph Glingener explained how simple wholesale services will be key to the digital revolution.

The OSA 5412 and 5422 address key sychronization challenges for communication service providers, enterprises, broadcast networks and power utilities. With multi-band GNSS receivers for nanosecond accuracy and support for eight field-upgradeable 10Gbit/s ports, they bring new levels of timing accuracy and resilience to edge networks. These unique timing devices ensure the scale and efficiency needed for next-generation smart grids, industrial IoT applications and 5G connectivity.
Edge computing in practice using IoT, Tensorflow and Google CloudAlvaro Viebrantz
This document discusses building an edge computing project using IoT cameras, TensorFlow, and Google Cloud. Easing the Path to Network Transformation - Network Transformation Experience...Liz Warner
Network transformation takes many forms: open platforms, virtualized infrastructure, containers and cloud native practices—and often a mix of any of these. Regardless of choice, the path to transformation typically requires new tools and new skills. Network Transformation Experience Kits provide a library of best-practice architecture and development guidelines addressing Industry needs in automation, interfaces standardization, security, resources management and more. These Experience Kits offer developers, technical leads, and other audiences a variety of materials needed to enable adoption of the new technologies and service-enabling capabilities needed for next-generation, open, agile and efficient networks. In this presentation, we will focus on containers technology to augment ease of use with high performance.
The document summarizes several demos of a cloud network slicing platform called NECOS. It describes demos of multi-tenant network slicing with two example services, a scalability demo over Fed4Fire, lightweight slicing with VIM, and intelligent orchestration of slices using machine learning. The goals are to create two end-to-end cloud network slices between Brazil and Europe, one for an IoT service using the Dojot platform and one for a touristic CDN video service. It demonstrates the slices, services, and horizontal elasticity functionality.
Automated and secure service activation at the network edge with zero touch p...ADVA
The document discusses zero touch provisioning (ZTP) which allows automated and secure activation of network edge devices without human intervention. It outlines the need for ZTP due to increasing complexity from technologies like NFV/SDN and growth of IoT/5G devices. ZTP provides benefits like reducing costs and speeding time to revenue by minimizing manual on-site configurations. However, automation also increases security risks so the document proposes a model using mutual authentication between devices and servers, as well as authorization through unique device IDs, to securely provision edge devices in a zero touch manner.
At Mobile World Congress, we hosted a joint demo with BT showcasing end-to-end, multi-layer transport network slicing and assurance. The demo illustrated how edge computing and network slicing techniques can enable emerging 5G applications. These include use cases that require ultra-reliable low-latency communications (uRLLC), such as autonomous vehicle control. Check out the accompanying slide deck.

Enel, AWS, and Athonet: Connecting Millions of IoT Devices on Private LTE (TL...Amazon Web Services
The upcoming launch of unlicensed spectrums globally, including CBRS in the USA (and later MulteFire globally), sXGP in Japan, and LAA in France, opens up new opportunities for deployment of 5G-ready industrial-grade private LTE networks integrated for industrial IoT applications. Deploying a private LTE network requires key considerations of both localized and widely distributed networks for highly resilient, low-latency broadband and narrow band (LTE-M, NB-IoT) LTE communications. In this workshop, we dive deep into how Enel plans to integrate millions of devices across power plants and field devices to AWS IoT using a private LTE network from Athonet to realize a smart electricity enterprise. Enel is one of the world's largest electricity utilities, with a 30-million smart meter program in Italy that has underlying LTE connectivity through a private MVNO. Athonet is a market leader globally in private LTE, with over 100 dedicated LTE networks globally for industry, public safety, and digital use cases, providing the mobile core network for Enel's private MVNO.

Network synchronization has come a long way, from native telecoms sync (TDM, SDH/SONET) through sync as a service (SyncE, PTP; 4G and 5G), to synchronization as an enabler of virtual services in open compute servers like TAP. In his WSTS talk, Ken Hann explored how network timing technology has evolved. The session covered methods for bringing synchronization to applications and explored how traditional telecoms synchronization distribution and open compute framework virtualization can be combined and managed.

Cloud and Edge: price, performance and privacy considerations in IOT, by Tsvi...Cloud Native Day Tel Aviv
As the public, private and consumer sectors rush to the cloud, the main hurdles are not feasibility or sensor/network price.
They are -Complexity of deployment due to inadequate IOT standards, inability to guarantee performance, and a growing fear of the liabilities generated by holding and processing data with privacy aspects.
Connectivity Challenges for CAVs - Athonet GrouptechUK
This document discusses the need for new networks to support connected and autonomous vehicles. It outlines how existing networks are not designed for the low latency and distributed intelligence needs of autonomous vehicles. Mobile edge computing platforms placed close to base stations can help meet these needs by providing applications and services with low latency and local breakout of large data volumes. Several use cases are described that demonstrate how a mobile edge computing platform could support autonomous vehicles and connected car services.
