This document outlines a lesson plan for teaching 3rd grade students about Native American history. The teacher will split the class into groups and have them research different Native American tribes. Each group will create a presentation on the tribe they were assigned, including examples and items. Throughout the week-long lesson, students will learn about Native American culture, languages, foods, and ways of life. The teacher will use a Voki and posters to present information and assess student learning through group presentations and participation in class activities and discussions.

A-I will be teaching Native American History to my 3rd grade class. This class consists
of 11 girls and 9 boys, 21 children total. This class is 65% white, 20% African-American,
and 15% Hispanic. 5 students have mild ADHD.
S- By the end of a five day school week, my 3rd grade students will know Native
American History. They will learn this important information by working in groups to
create and present Native American projects. These projects will outline the importance
of the difference in Native American culture by introducing the children to differnt foods,
languages, song/dance, games, and ways of life. This will be completed with a 95%
accuracy.
S- Method- I will begin by introducing Native Americans to the children and give each
child a Native American name. I will question their prior knowledge on topic, and then
continue by discussing the different Tribes that are located throughout North America
and languages they speak. I will later split the class into different groups and pass out
Native American Tribes to each group. The children will be required to do a research
project for the chosen group. They can present this information as they choose, but
must include examples with pictures or items they have created to resemble.
Media- Information during this lesson will be present via a voki and posters.
Materials- I will provide the children with the tribe in which they are to do their project
on. I will also provide the children with the information needed during said discussions.
U- I will prepare the Voki and poster that will be used before class. I will explain to the
children how the Voki works and that they are required to make a journal entry
answering what the Voki has questioned. I will present the poster via the Smartboard. I
will also notify parents in advance of a WebQuest created to resemble the lesson for the
week.
R- Participation will be required as each student is given a Native American name,
asked to answer the voki, participate in language discussion, and join a group to
complete an assignment.
E- I will assess student learning by evaluating their group presentations. I will also
periodically evaluate my students based on participation during activities, and
involvement during class discussions.
