A-I will be teaching Native American History to my 3rd grade class. This class consists
of 11 girls and 9 boys, 21 children total. This class is 65% white, 20% African-American,
and 15% Hispanic. 5 students have mild ADHD.
S- By the end of a five day school week, my 3rd grade students will know Native
American History. They will learn this important information by working in groups to
create and present Native American projects. These projects will outline the importance
of the difference in Native American culture by introducing the children to different
foods, languages, song/dance, games, and ways of life. This will be completed with a
95% accuracy.
S- Method - Student research will begin. We will compare a hunter to a gatherer.
Together we will create a similarity/difference chart using the smart board. The children
will be allowed to fill in the chart. We will become familiar with how tribes created their
own materials, such as tools to work and hunt with. I will then give the children time to
get in groups and create a tool used within the tribe they were assigned. They will be
required to take a picture of the tool created and upload it to the class Facebook page,
describing what and how the tool is used.
Media- Information during this lesson will be provided via the smart board and
Facebook.
Materials- I will prepare the similarity/difference chart before class and have it ready to
be used via the Smart board.
U- I will prepare the similarity/difference chart and explain to the students how it is to be
used. I will explain how to upload a picture via Facebook and explain the importance of
explain what the tool is and how it was used.
R- Participation will be required as each student will be expected to participate in the
completion of the similarity/difference chart. Each student will also be expected to
participate in the creation of the tool and the upload of the picture.
E- I will assess student learning by evaluating their group presentations. I will also
periodically evaluate my students based on participation during activities, and
involvement during class discussions.
