Despite covering three-fourths of the Earth's surface, only a small fraction of water is freshwater, leading to significant water scarcity due to over-exploitation, population growth, and uneven access. Dams, while intended for multi-purpose uses, cause ecological issues, disrupt natural water flow, and are often ineffective in flood control. Rainwater harvesting practices, including rooftop systems and traditional storage methods, serve as viable alternatives for water conservation in various regions of India.
