Swach Bharat Abhiyan Challenges and Prospectsijtsrd
Swach Bharat Abhiyan, it means that clean India mission it is a national level campaign launched by the Government of India on 2nd October 2014 to accelerate the efforts to achieve universal sanitation coverage. It is a major step towards the protection of degrading environment. The important objects of the mission include elimination of open defecation, conversion of insanitary toilets to pour flush toilets, eradication of manual scavenging and above all to bring about a behavioral change in people regarding healthy sanitation practices. It also ensures public participation in achieving these objectives. The campaign aims to achieve its objectives on 2019 as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary. The important objective of the SBM is that to improve the level of cleanliness and to make open defecation free. Swach Bharat mission has had the biggest domino effect in the world. Because it has addressed the centuries old practices on open defecation and it has had major health and economic impact. According to reports, 11 states are now open defecation free namely Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Gujarat, Chandigarh, Daman and Diu, Arunachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Meghalaya. India, which had sanitation coverage of mere 41.92 per cent in 2014 has increased its coverage to 63.94 per cent, and this improvement is being viewed as a major success of the campaign. More than 3.5 crore toilets have been built under the mission in two years compared 83 lakh toilets built in 10 years between 2001 and 2011 under the Total Sanitation Campaign, as per the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation. Not only is it a sharp increase in the number of toilets built under any national sanitation programme, but the pace of constructing toilets under Swach Bharat has been speedier as well. Nearing three years of completion, the campaign has now also laid its focus on the other aspects of sanitation such as behavioral change, piped water supply to toilets and drainage. However, it has been clearly declared that the campaign is not only the duty of the government but each and every citizen of the country is equally responsible to keep the nation clean or swatch. Wastewater
There are two broad categories of waste water on the basis of their origin. They includes sewage and industrial effluent.
Sewage is waste water generated from residential areas like community whereas industrial effluent is waste water generated from various industries.
Domestic sewage and industrial effluent differ in their composition and nature of pollutant. For example, microorganisms and organic matter are main pollutant in sewage whereas various toxic chemicals are main pollutants in industrial effluent.
I. Industrial effluent:
Waste water generated from various industries is called industrial effluent.
In general various toxic chemicals alike acid, alkali, coloring agents etc are main pollutants. Microorganisms and organic matters are usually lower in industrial effluent.
Actual composition and characteristics of industrial effluent depends on type of industry and nature of raw materials of industry.
Pollutants in industries are generated during processing of raw materials and manufacturing of products.
Waste management is a global problem that continues to increase with rapid industrialization, population growth, and economic development. As the world hurtles towards the urban future, the amount of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) is growing very fast. Waste includes any solid material or material that is suspended dissolved or transported in water or deposited on land. Wastes are generally classified into solid, liquid, & gaseous and are broadly classified as household waste; municipal waste; commercial and non-hazardous industrial wastes; e- waste, hazardous (toxic) industrial wastes; construction and demolition waste; health care wastes – waste generated in health care facilities (e.g. hospitals, medical research facilities); human and animal wastes; and incinerator wastes.

Sanitation refers to public health conditions related to clean drinking water and adequate treatment and disposal of human excreta and sewage.[1] Preventing human contact with feces is part of sanitation, as is hand washing with soap. Sanitation system aim to protect human health by providing a clean environment that will stop the transmission of disease, especially through the fecal-oral route.[2] For example, diarrhea, a main cause of malnutrition and stunted growth in children, can be reduced through sanitation.[3] There are many other diseases which are easily transmitted in communities that have low levels of sanitation, such as ascariasis (a type of intestinal worm infection or helminthiasis), cholera, hepatitis, polio, schistosomiasis, trachoma, to name just a few.
A range of sanitation technologies and approaches exists. Some examples are community-led total sanitation, container-based sanitation, ecological sanitation, emergency sanitation, environmental sanitation, onsite sanitation and sustainable sanitation. A sanitation system includes the capture, storage, transport, treatment and disposal or reuse of human excreta and wastewater.[4] Reuse activities within the sanitation system may focus on the nutrients, water, energy or organic matter contained in excreta and wastewater. This is referred to as the "sanitation value chain" or "sanitation economy

A typical college football game generates tens of thousands of pound of trash but students at UNC Charlotte proposed that the new 16,000-seat Jerry Richardson Stadium have no landfill waste. Developing a process and executing a plan to achieve that goal would require a remarkable amount of campus- and community-wide commitment and cooperation.
UNC Charlotte proved during the Charlotte 49ers inaugural football season, that a zero-waste facility can be achieved. Additionally, reducing the stadium’s ecological footprint to near-nothing was financially and socially beneficial.

So, your workplace is feeling a bit like a hangover from last night’s party – filled with the unwanted remnants of dirt, grime, and chemical residue. Fear not, industrious business owner, for the cavalry is here in the form of green cleaning equipment. In this whirlwind of an article, we’re delving into the transformative powers these eco-friendly machines bring to the table, making cleaning a breeze while reducing our environmental footprint.
After a year long research and cleanup project in a small section of Miami Beach, Dave Doebler created a presentation to Cities looking to reduce the amount of litter and trash entering the waterways. There are a slew of ideas and strategies that cities can implement to reduce the pollution they that comes from their citizens.
Rain Barrels: Harvesting the Heavens Saving StreamsCHEARS
Matt Berres is the Director of Maintenance Operations for Greenbelt Homes Inc. (GHI). He is responsible for developing and implementing GHI’s stormwater management program and supporting efforts to promote sustainability throughout the coop. He has led efforts to encourage rain barrel usage in Greenbelt and designed and implemented numerous bioretention rain gardens in the community. Prior to joining GHI, Matt led watershed education and restoration programs for the Potomac Conservancy, a regional non-profit dedicated to protecting the Potomac River watershed. Matt will talk about GHI’s rain barrel program and its other storm water management activities to reduce the coop’s pollution impact on the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.
Recycling is broken because people recycle poorly. Part of the education process must be directly on the wastehauler dumpster bins, and the Wastehaulers are responsible.
There is tons of trash and marine debris in Biscayne Bay (Miami, FL). I document and quantify the amount of single-use plastics, the sources, and solutions.
The need for unified and proper messaging on garbage and recycling containersVolunteerCleanup.Org
Trash and Recycling bins all look alike, and there is no unified messaging. If we want people to use trash and garbage bins and dumpsters correctly, the waste haulers need to provide better messaging. Here is a survey of the dumpsters and bins in for trash and recycling in Miami Beach.
Proposal for Cigarette Butt Ashcans throughout Miami Beach, Florida. These attractive pole mounted cigarette receptacles make it easy for people to do the right thing and not litter. Educational messaging tells smokers that cigarette butts are made of plastic and don't biodegrade.
Clogged storm drains are contributing to street flooding in Miami BeachVolunteerCleanup.Org
Weekly trash cleanups in the canal led to a significant discovery - Clogged Storm Drains are contributing to street flooding in Miami Beach. Trash comes from the street level into storm drains. Trash that makes it past ‘traps’ discharge to the waterway and clog the outlet.
4 Simple Solutions :
1) Reduce litter with proper placement of trash cans - “can on every corner”
2) Street level gratings that keep material from going into the drains, while allowing full flow of storm water. Watch in action : http://youtu.be/ezdqgPX8AWw
3) Better cleaning schedule of existing storm drain traps/interceptors (which catch debris)
4) ‘Catch bin’ at the water output (flexible net style)

Climate change refers to significant and lasting changes in the average weather patterns over periods ranging from decades to millions of years. It encompasses both global warming driven by human emissions of greenhouse gases and the resulting large-scale shifts in weather patterns. While climate change is a natural phenomenon, human activities, particularly since the Industrial Revolution, have accelerated its pace and intensity
Characterization and the Kinetics of drying at the drying oven and with micro...Open Access Research Paper
The objective of this work is to contribute to valorization de Nephelium lappaceum by the characterization of kinetics of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum. The seeds were dehydrated until a constant mass respectively in a drying oven and a microwawe oven. The temperatures and the powers of drying are respectively: 50, 60 and 70°C and 140, 280 and 420 W. The results show that the curves of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum do not present a phase of constant kinetics. The coefficients of diffusion vary between 2.09.10-8 to 2.98. 10-8m-2/s in the interval of 50°C at 70°C and between 4.83×10-07 at 9.04×10-07 m-8/s for the powers going of 140 W with 420 W the relation between Arrhenius and a value of energy of activation of 16.49 kJ. mol-1 expressed the effect of the temperature on effective diffusivity.

Altered Terrain: Colonial Encroachment and Environmental Changes in Cachar, A...PriyankaKilaniya
The beginning of colonial policy in the area was signaled by the British annexation of the Cachar district in southern Assam in 1832. The region became an alluring investment opportunity for Europeans after British rule over Cachar, especially after the accidental discovery of wild tea in 1855. Within this historical context, this study explores three major stages that characterize the evolution of nature. First, it examines the distribution and growth of tea plantations, examining their size and rate of expansion. The second aspect of the study examines the consequences of land concessions, which led to the initial loss of native forests. Finally, the study investigates the increased strain on forests caused by migrant workers' demands. It also highlights the crucial role that the Forest Department plays in protecting these natural habitats from the invasion of tea planters. This study aims to analyze the intricate relationship between colonialism and the altered landscape of Cachar, Assam, by means of a thorough investigation, shedding light on the environmental, economic, and societal aspects of this historical transformation.

UNDERSTANDING WHAT GREEN WASHING IS!.pdfJulietMogola
Many companies today use green washing to lure the public into thinking they are conserving the environment but in real sense they are doing more harm. There have been such several cases from very big companies here in Kenya and also globally. This ranges from various sectors from manufacturing and goes to consumer products. Educating people on greenwashing will enable people to make better choices based on their analysis and not on what they see on marketing sites.
