This document summarizes a study on the awareness of health, sanitation, and hygiene among teacher trainees in India. It finds that 56.66% of trainees had an average level of awareness, while 16.66% had above average awareness and 23.33% had below average awareness. Additionally, it finds that male trainees had significantly higher awareness levels than female trainees. The study concludes that health education awareness programs are needed to better prepare all teacher trainees, especially females, on topics like hand washing and menstrual hygiene management. Improving hygiene practices among future teachers will help promote a healthy India in line with the Swachh Bharat Mission goals.

“Effectiveness of PTP on Knowledge and Attitude of High School Students Regar...inventionjournals
Background: Nutrition is an important component of any physical fitness program. The main dietary goal for active individuals is to obtain adequate nutrition to optimize health fitness. Health behavioral patter ns, especially eating patterns, established in childhood often carry over into adulthood, and some of the unhealthy ones are later associated with adult morbidity and mortality. Aims and Objectives: The study aimed at assessing effectiveness of planned teaching programme on knowledge and attitude regarding importance of diet among high school students and finding the correlation between knowledge and attitude regarding importance of diet and find the association between knowledge and attitude with selected demographic variables. Materials and Methods: knowledge of high school students was assessed by structured knowledge questionnaire and attitude was assessed by rating scale, 50 students were selected by purposive sampling technique. Results: The findings of the study related to knowledge revealed that, in the pre test 23 (46%) had the average knowledge, 22(44%) had good knowledge. The post test knowledge scores shows 13(26%) with good knowledge and 33(66%) with excellent knowledge. There is a significant difference between the pretest and post test level of knowledge [t value (t49=14.63)]. The findings of the study related to attitude revealed that, 46(92%) had the good attitude & 3 (6%) had excellent attitude. Whereas after administration of PTP no one had poor attitude, 20(40%) with good attitude, & 29(58%) had excellent attitude. There is a significant difference between the pretest and post test level of attitude [t value (t49=8.65)]. The correlation between knowledge and attitude score shows that mild correlation (r=0.666). There is a significant association between knowledge scores with selected demographic variables like age (X2=4.5, df=1), sex (X2=5.56, df=1), father education (X2=12, df=1), father occupation (X2=8.41, df=1), mother education (X2=10.54, df=1), family income (X2=23.72, df=1), type of diet (X2=5.88, df=1),source of information regarding diet (X2=6.77, df=1). There is a significant association between attitude scores with selected demographic variables like father occupation (X2=19.42, df=1), mother education (X2=5.88, df=1), mother occupation (X2=4.11, df=1), family income (X2=5.89, df=1). Conclusion: The findings of the study supports the need for providing information to improving the knowledge regarding importance of diet among high school children.

Educational play a vital role in the development of human potential. The state government uses a significant portion of its limited resources to provide educational facilities throughout the country. Due to the socio economic factors that exist in society, the goal of these efforts to stimulate the percentage of universal education in general seems to be far reaching and elusive. Most children from low socioeconomic societies suffer from undernutrition, often dropping out of school at an early age, directly affecting their personality development. 4. INTRODUCTION
• Improving water-hygiene-sanitation in India
remains central to improving the standards of
living in both rural and urban areas, especially
among the poor.
• Recently, the Government of India launched the
Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) to address the
crisis of sanitation in its widest sense.
• This means ensuring overall cleanliness, hygienic
behaviour, availability of water and toilets as well
as their regular use.
5. Critical issues identified for WaSH in education
and health were
• Balanced emphasis on both hardware
(facilities) and software (education, training,
participation, maintenance) inputs.
Maintenance and monitoring of facilities is a
persistent challenge that has not been
sufficiently prioritized.
6. • Active participation among children begins with
hygienic practices in schools, specifically, use of clean
toilets, washing hands with soap after using the
toilet and before eating, and safe food
preparation/storage.
• Menstrual hygiene management requires facilities,
but also supportive educational information for girls.
It should also include educating boys and men.
• Prerequisite to integrate WaSH into public health
services with an emphasis on hand washing and
cleanliness of facilities as well as rapid monitoring
surveys.
7. NEED FOR THE STUDY
The Central Pollution Control Board(CPCB)
confirms that there are major polluted
stretches on 18 major rivers in India.
Contaminated water is the primary source of
infection in India causing typhoid, cholera,
jaundice, acute gastroenteritis and in extreme
cases, cancers.
8. • The present study insists on the
importance of sanitation health and
hygiene among teacher trainees.
Twenty questions were asked based
on the “Question bank of Swachch
Bharat and sanitation” to test the
awareness of teacher trainees.
9. OBJECTIVES
• The objectives of the present study is given
hereunder.
• To find out the percentage of awareness of
teacher trainees towards health, sanitation
and hygiene.
• To study the relationship between the
awareness of sanitation practices of boy and
girl teacher trainees.
10. HYPOTHESES
• 1.There is no difference in percentage of
awareness of teacher trainees towards health,
sanitation and hygiene.
• 2.There is no significance difference between
the awareness of sanitation practices of boy
and girl teacher trainees.
12. SAMPLE
• The sample consists of 30 student
teachers selected from Gandhigram
Rural Institute B.Ed. teacher trainees.
13. TOOL
• “Question bank of Swachch Bharat
and Sanitation” was adopted for this
present study.
14. DATA ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION

2. Average(35 to

3. Above
Average(Abov
e 60%)
5 16.66
15. • We can infer from the above table that the
number of students who scored above average
marks are less than the other categories.
• Nearly half percentage of teacher trainees have
average awareness towards health and
sanitation. This shows satisfied performance.
• But to get high scores in health and sanitation
awareness, they have to undergo some
awareness programmes. Healthy youngsters are
nation’s pride.
17. • Fifty six percent of students secured average marks in
health and sanitation.
• From this we can infer that awareness of health
education is much needed for the present student
teachers.
• Awareness about washing hands, drying hands after
washing, and the like should be taught to the students.
• The present student teachers are the future teachers
hence, the awareness of health and sanitation is a
must for them.
18. TABLE 2
GENDER MEAN STANDARD

Boys 70 0 3.5 Significant
Girls 35 17.32
19. • The boys are securing high mean score than
the girl students. The t value is 3.5 and it is
highly significant at 0.05 level of significance.
• So we can conclude that there is significant
difference between the awareness of boy and
girl teacher trainees towards health, hygiene
and sanitation.
20. FINDINGS OF THE STUDY
• First hypotheses was verified. There exists percentage
difference of awareness in the field of health,
sanitation and hygiene among teacher trainees. Only
16 percentage of students have got high score. 56.66%
of students have got average in the awareness of
health and sanitation. This emphasis satisfactory
results. 23.33% of students are in below average level.
• The second hypotheses also verified using t test. From
the t test results it was found that there is significant
difference between boy and girl teacher trainees
towards health, hygiene and sanitation.
21. EDUCATIONAL IMPLICATIONS
• It is very important for the student teachers to
educate themselves with health education. So
that they can be aware of their personal
health and hygiene. Self health is a must.
There is a chance of contagious diseases if self
health is not properly maintained.
22. • There is a difference in boy and girl teacher
trainees in health awareness.
• The boys are showing positive signs than girls.
• So the awareness of women health and
sanitation is very important.
• Present girl teacher trainees are the future
mother.
• Hence, it is a mandatory to aware them with
health education. As our priminister’s advise if we
give awareness to girls then she will educate the
whole family.
23.
24. CONCLUSION
• “A sound mind in a sound Body” is a well
known proverb.
• Not only our mind our body also be sound. To
get a sound body one should aware of Health
education which is needed for the present day
student teachers
25. • “Hand washing campaigns usually try to
educate people with health messages about
germs and diseases, but so far efforts to
change hand washing behaviour on a large
scale have had little success. Understanding
the motivating factors for routine hand
washing is essential to any initiative likely to
achieve lasting behaviour change.”
26. • The Health and Yoga course teacher should
conduct special lectures and seminars about
health education.
• Having a clean classroom and environment
foster the student’s awareness of health
education in his/her college and community.
27.
28. If this happens definitely we will bring a healthy India joined in hands with our
Prime Minister’s Swachch Bharat.
