3. About the
Magazine
W magazine is issued monthly, and it was founded
in 1971. The magazine staff claims that the W
contains the what, who, when and where of
fashion. Although the ‘W’ does not stand for
women, it does however give the indication
towards them. 80% of the readers of this magazine
are women. Its current editor-in-chief is Stefano
Tonchi. The magazine is owned by the company,
Conde Naste. This magazine has long been the
subject of controversies, and is aimed at a more
adult audience
4. Main cover-line
The main cover-line targets an elitist clientele.
The way the main cover-line is written gives the
effect of a summer haze. Followed by the tag-line
which is inviting towards social gathering,
therefore merging fashion with the outdoor
summer lust.
5. Cover-line
The cover-lines talk about the fun summery
fashion.
The entire written text of the cover is in white.
The font and color make the cover-line easily
ignorable.
6. Selling line
The selling line of the magazine holds the
name of one of the most well-known
contemporary models. Delevingne’s name can
help sell the magazine to a larger number of
audience.
The name of the model is written in a different
font than the sub-heading in order to make it
stand out.
7. Masthead
The masthead is placed on the top left corner.
It is written in the Benton modern display font.
The logo is written in white against the light
purple background which makes it stand out
yet easily blend with the entire cover.
8. Main Image
The entire cover has a very little spread on it. The
model also has a very naturalistic hair-style and
make-up on her. This can be a reflection of the
term used in fashion ‘less is more’. The
background compliments her make-up and
accentuates the blue dress.
The image is an eye-leveled mid-shot of the
model. Her pose is a confident and quite a relaxed
one. She is looking straight at the camera, which
further highlights her confident. Also the mouth of
the model is slightly open which makes it seem as
if she’s about to say something which increases
the curiosity of the reader.
Her blue top stands out from the rest of the cover
and highlights fashion, which is what the
magazine is about.
