The document defines and describes several key elements of a magazine's front cover, including the skyline, cover image, cover line, barcode, masthead, date line, and features. The skyline provides extra information about the magazine or a top story. The cover image usually shows the main feature. The cover line accompanies the cover image. The barcode and date line are typically located near the bottom. The masthead displays the magazine's title in the top left corner. The features hint at what articles are inside.
1. Skyline- the extra bit of text above the
masthead of the magazine. The skyline is used
to give extra information either about the
magazine its self or about a top story in the
magazine. Here it gives information that will
attract the reader and sell its self.
Cover Image- the cover image usually takes
up the whole front page of the magazine and
the image is tends to be of the person who is
the main feature.
Cover Line- the cover line is the large piece
of text that goes with the cover image. So in
this magazine the cover line is ‘Billie Joe’ to fit
with the image of him.
Barcode- the barcode is usually on the front
of the magazine near the bottom.
Masthead- the title or name of the
magazine is usually caller the masthead. The
masthead is usually in the top left corner here
the masthead is large and bright and the
colours of red white and black fit in with the
rest of the over as they are the only colours
used. The colours contrast against each other
but they also go together. This makes the
magazine unisex as the colours aren’t just
associated with one gender.
Date Line- the date of the magazine issue is
usually placed underneath the masthead on
magazines. The date is important as readers
will want to know if the news / events are
recent. On here however the price is next to
the date line, it is more conventional to have
the price next to the barcode.
Features- the features of a magazine are
hints of what are coming up in the magazine.
On this magazine the features are the arctic
monkeys and muse.
