WEATHER WONDERS
THE STUDENTS FOR WHOM THIS LESSON IS INTENDED IS FIFTH GRADERS ENROLLED IN A
GENERAL SCIENCE CLASS. THERE ARE 20 STUDENTS ALL TOGETHER, 9 GIRLS, AND 11 BOYS. THE
MAJORITY OF THE CLASS IS WHITE, MIDDLE CLASS AMERICANS WHO LIVE IN A RURAL SETTING.
THERE ARE 2 AFRICAN AMERICAN CHILDREN AND 1 HISPANIC CHILD. ALL THESE CHILDREN ARE
GENERALLY WELL BEHAVED AND TEND TO OBEY RULES.

MAIN OBJECTIVE
STUDENTS WILL DEFINE MANY TERMS AND UNDERSTAND WEATHER IN MORE DETAIL BY
PARTICIPATING IN ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS: BUILDING A TORNADO IN A BOTTLE, MAKING A PODCAST
OF THEIR FAVORITE TYPE OF WEATHER, PARTICIPATE IN A WEBQUEST ABOUT BEING A
METEOROLOGIST, AND MUCH MORE. THESE STUDENTS WILL HAVE 5 DAYS TO REVIEW AS A GROUP
AND INDIVIDUALLY WITH 100% ACCURACY.
MONDAY
• EXPLAIN THE FORM OF RAIN AND HOW IT IS CAUSED.
• PROVIDE A POSTER ILLUSTRATING THE WATER CYCLE (NEXT SLIDE)
• USING THE SMARTBOARD, SHOW THE WATER CYCLE:
