Saloni Mathur will give a free lecture at Gallery 400 on September 17th about the work of contemporary Indian artist Vivan Sundaram. Mathur will discuss Sundaram's "late style" and how his installations and videos reference Dadaism, Surrealism, and Fluxus while also referring to social problems, popular culture, perception, memory, and history. Saloni Mathur, Associate Professor of Art History at UCLA, brings both art historical and anthropological
perspectives to her teaching and research. Her areas of interest include the visual cultures of modern
South Asia and its diasporas, colonial studies and post-colonial criticism, the history of anthropological
ideas, museum studies in a global frame, and modern and contemporary South Asian art.
In this lecture Mathur discusses the work of the contemporary Indian artist Vivan Sundaram, whose work
