 About Centum Learning
Need for vocational education in schools
We will need to ensure far greater
availability of educational opportunities
at the higher education levels so that we
have not just a literate youth but a
skilled youth, with skills which can fetch
them gainful employment.”
Hon’ble PM, Dr. Manmohan Singh
“
• By 2020, India is set to become the world’s youngest country with 64
per cent of its population in the working age group
• About a quarter of the global increase in the working age population
(ages 15-64) between 2010 and 2040 is projected to occur in India
• In the current scenario of the Indian Vocational education, formal
training capacity is available only for - 2.3 million people, which leaves
a huge gap of 18.7 million
• Huge gap between industry requirements and skill level of workforce
• Government and policy support to create a skilled talent pool of 500
million people by 2022
Why Vocational Education?
• Industry oriented curriculum required to supplement formal
education
• Schools possess integrated infrastructure for training
• Once out of school, difficult to tap the students for any
formal training
• Most students ( and parents) aspire to earn formal degrees.
Vocational education is not desirable. Skilling at early stage
would add to orientation
Why Vocational Education
at School Level?
Need to integrate
Vocational Education
with Formal Education
• Curriculum and content development as
per industry standards and mandated by
CBSE
• Deployment of specialized trainers for
identified trades :Retail, IT, Automobile,
Banking & Finance, Hospitality & Tourism,
Mass Media, Media & Production etc.
• Facilitate practical exposure to the
students in their respective trades
• Fostering innovation and creative methods
in imparting skill education
