Visual Rhetoric Essay
Crafting a Visual Rhetoric Essay can prove to be a challenging endeavor, demanding a unique
set of skills that go beyond traditional written expression. Unlike conventional essays that rely
predominantly on textual analysis, this genre necessitates a keen eye for visual elements,
requiring the writer to decode and interpret images, symbols, and design choices.
One of the primary challenges lies in effectively merging the visual and verbal components
seamlessly. The writer must navigate through the intricate dance of images and words, ensuring
that both contribute meaningfully to the overall argument. This demands a nuanced
understanding of visual rhetoric principles, such as color theory, composition, and the impact of
visual elements on persuasion.
Furthermore, the selection of appropriate visual artifacts for analysis is a meticulous task. It
involves not only identifying compelling visuals but also deciphering their intended rhetorical
messages. Unveiling the layers of meaning embedded in an image or design requires a level of
critical thinking and visual literacy that may be unfamiliar to those accustomed to traditional
essay writing.
The synthesis of textual and visual analysis poses another layer of complexity. The challenge is to
strike a balance between describing the visual elements and articulating their rhetorical
significance. This requires a mastery of language that can convey the visual experience and evoke
the intended emotions or reactions in the reader.
Moreover, the dynamic nature of visual rhetoric, with its subjective and evolving interpretations,
adds an extra layer of complexity. Writers must grapple with the fluidity of visual
communication, acknowledging that interpretations may vary based on individual perspectives,
cultural contexts, and evolving societal norms.
In conclusion, composing a Visual Rhetoric Essay demands a unique skill set that extends
beyond traditional essay writing. It requires a fusion of visual literacy, critical thinking, and
eloquent expression to decode and articulate the persuasive power of images. Successfully
navigating these challenges can result in a compelling essay that not only analyzes but also
communicates the intricate relationship between visuals and rhetoric. For those seeking

The Downfall Of The Romanov Dynasty
In a burgeoning climate of autocracy, the Romanov dynasty was firmly established
in the societal framework of early 20th century Russia. Having been in varying
degrees of absolute political control over an approximate time period of four
hundred years, their eventual undoing marked a power shift polarising the imperial
regime laid out by countless Tsars beforehand. Nicholas II, the last Emperor of Russia
, is recognised to have a degree of personal responsibility for the downfall of the
Romanovs, yet the extent to which his decision making skills can be held
accountable is questioned by some historians. Despite this, multiple political, social,
and military facets of Nicholas II s reign were handled with instability, and his
perceived lack of legitimacy due to this poor decision making ultimately was a major
causative factor to the downfall of his family s vast dynasty.
Various aspects of Nicholas II s political decisions reflected his clear unsuitability
for the role of Tsar, and these decisions form a preliminary basis for both his own
legacy of incompetency the eventual undoing of the Romanovs. In comparison to
rulers preceding, Nicholas was ill prepared for the role: his father, Alexander III,
failed to adequately develop his son s understanding of civil state responsibilities
before his death in 1894, under the guise that he would live long enough to teach
Nicholas of these affairs. Upon his consecration as Tsar, Nicholas spoke in his diary
of his apprehensiveness
The Cj Foods, Inc. Essay
This case study views the CJ Foods, Inc. company headquarters in South Korea. CJ
Foods make three types of sauces that they sell in grocery stores located in East
Asia. The three types of Korean barbeque sauces are: Original, Pineapple, and Hot
Spicy. These sauces are made by mixing different percentages of five ingredients,
and these ingredients include: beef, bean, pineapple, hot pepper, and sugar. For the
original sauce the ingredients are twenty seven percent beef, forty seven percent
bean, eleven percent hot pepper, and fifteen percent sugar. The pineapple sauce
consists of ten percent beef, twenty five percent bean, fifty percent pineapple, ten
percent hot pepper, and five percent sugar. The hot and spicy sauce consists of
fifteen percent beef, twenty percent bean, forty percent hot pepper, and twenty five
percent sugar. The profit contribution per pound for the original sauce is $1.55, for
the pineapple sauce it is $2.10, and for the hot and spicy sauce it is $2.35. The case
study is asking the reader to create a linear programmingmodel, that will allow the
company to use the available ingredients to maximize profit. The problem was
identified by the data, because the cost of ingredients is not included in their profit
analysis. The cost of the ingredients varies greatly, because of the commodity market.
With this case study, we are trying to find the optimal production for each sauce, is
the purchase of additional pounds of each type of ingredients beneficial,

As scientific research contends, discrepancies in the earth s climate will have a
significant impact on the environment and humans. Human habitation and economic
patterns will all have to shift as entire ecosystems are altered because of these climate
trends. As scientists continue to present the case that climate changeis a serious
problem that must be addressed through societal efforts, members of the public and
private sector are beginning to recognize their obligation to take action. Yet, in order
to make sound managerial decisions regarding climate change it is important to
understand the nature of the problem. This report will consider the causes of climate

Further, research reveals that the levels of greenhouse gases has increased between
the base periods of 1961 and 1990, with a warming of the atmosphere accompanying
the increase in carbon dioxide levels (University Corporation for Atmospheric
Research, 2014). These trends will have serious consequences for humans around the
globe.
The reason that climate changes impact human life significantly is that climate
interacts significantly with the ecosystem. The climate system is composed of the
atmosphere, the hydrosphere, the physical Earth, the biosphere, and the cryosphere, a
term designating solid forms of water that are permanent landmarks on the Earth s
surface (Lutgens Tarbuck, 2013). Thus, when a change to the Earth s atmospheric
temperature occurs, it not only impacts the atmosphere, but all components of the
environment are impacted as well. For example, if a drop in temperature takes place
over a series of time, this modifies the features of the Earth s surface, which can make
it uninhabitable for entire species. This also impacts the food and plant sources that
humans rely upon to survive while making different locations less desirable for
habitation. Thus, humans are profoundly affected by global trends in climate.

Explain The Key Features Of The Anzaac Legend
History Essay Key features of the ANZAC legend and explain how and why it was
created. The Australian and New Zealand Army Corps, later known as ANZAC,
has a legend, although many also refer to it as the ANZAC spirit. The ANZAC
legend was created on April 25th 1915, but was only really acknowledged after their
eight months of fighting in Gallipoli. The legend that the men created is something
for our countries to be proud of but it does not refer to their fighting ability, as they
actually lost at battle, but instead, it refers to the Australians and New Zealanders
great display of mateship, discipline, ambition, endurance and courage during their
fighting. The landing at Gallipoli is seen as a story of courage, bravery and the
endurance during a time filled with death and despair. The fact that they were under
the poor leadership from London, and their unsuccessful strategies, cost most of them
their lives. But even under London s poor leadership, they still held strong in their
bravery through their hard times, it was acts like these that earned them their legend.
But it was this act that earned them the ANZAC legend. Their unwavering bravery
through this even earned some praise from war correspondents, such as Charles Bean.

military formalities and customs than from the bonds of mateship and the demands

I have decided to discuss United Kingdom and United States six key difference in
compensation and benefits. The 6 key compensation and benefits between United
Kingdom and United that I will address are paid maternity leave, paid paternity
leave,general parental leave,paid holiday allowances,paid sick leaveand
unemployment benefits. The first key difference that I will discuss is maternityleave.
In all the countries in Europe, the maternity leave minimum amount is 14 weeks
but the time and pay that is offered varies. The United Kingdom s maternity leave
is at 52 weeks (1 year) which is the longest maternity leave in Europe. The first 26
weeks is known as Ordinary Maternity Leave , the last 26 weeks as Additional

United Kingdom on the other hand offers 8 paid holiday/vacation days. For sick and
pay leave United States does not have statutory mandate for paid sick leave. Just
like the paid holidays, the number of days that an employee is offered is apart of
the compensation package which is negotiated between the employee and
employer. Out of Europe, United Kingdom is one of the least generous when it
comes paid sick leave as they offer up to 28 weeks and it is paid at a flat rate of
around ВЈ88 a week. Lastly, the key difference I will discuss is unemployment
benefits. In the U.S they offer between 40% and 50% of earnings for up to 26
weeks, which also depends on the individual state. It is said that out of Europe,
United Kingdom is the least generous when it comes to benefits. They have to

Real Estate Debate
Probate real estate investing refers to purchasing property from estates held in
probate. When a person dies all of their assets, including real estate, are transferred to
probate. Depending on the complexities and circumstances, probate can last between
six months to three years. If the decedent has an outstanding mortgage on their real
estateholdings, the estateis responsible for making payments. Insurance, taxes and
utilities must be paid through the estate, as well as property maintenance. Probatereal
estate investing provides an option to beneficiaries who are struggling to make ends

who resides out of town. Property maintenance and mortgage payments... Show more

Many sellers/buyers that have had bad experiences with amateur real estate agents
have the conceptions that all agents are the same. I have compiled this list on the
best actions you should perform before hiring any agent. 1.Real estate agents and
Realtors are not the same. Realtors are licensed to sell properties by the national
association of Realtors (NAR). Realtors also have to sign a list of 17 articles
containing the standards of practice they must follow making them slightly more
trustworthy than a real estate agent. 2. Ask people in your neighborhood for
recommendations, if you have any friends that have recently moved in a new house
ask them about their experience with their agent. Client testimonials can be one of
the best ways to find out information about your agent. You can also ask your
previous real estate agents for referrals, agents usually connect with each other
which means that they know which ones are the best in the business. 3. Take your
time before you select which agent you want to hire, choosing your agent s in a
haste can be a big mistake. Many people make the mistake that when they are
looking for fast sale they hire the first real estate agent they can find thinking it
would save them some time, this conceptions is very wrong as many real estate
agents take months to sell a property. 5. You must also sense

The US dominates most of the Cott s sales for 2004. This could be a disadvantage
for Cott since they rely heavily on their sales from only one region. They should be
aware of this vulnerability and take steps to mitigate this disadvantage.

Other than financial factors, Cott would also need to consider factors beyond number
crunching. They would need to consider customer attitudes towards the Cott brand, as
well as brands that want to buy the Cott product. They will need to keep up their

The Major Causes Of The Crusades
In 1065 Jerusalem was taken by the Turks, who came from the kingdom of ancient
Persia. When the Seljuk Turks took control of Jerusalem, thirty thousand Christians
were massacred and the remaining Christians were mistreated. Christians were
forbidden from making pilgrimages to the Holy City. The Turks then threatened to
invade the Byzantine Empireand take Constantinople. Byzantine Emperor Alexius I
made a special appeal to Urban II for help. The idea that Europe could be united
under one common enemy, and awakened the desire to save the Holy Land and
Jerusalem from the Turks, and the hope for acquiring new territory in the East were
all causes of the Crusades. A significant cause for the Crusades was Pope Urban II s
call to fight the Seljuk Turks and defend Constantinople in order to unite Europe.
Pope Urban II explained to his people that Alexius of the Byzantine Empire needed
help in defending Constantinople from the Seljuk Turks and asked for all of the
true Christians to join in the fight. The Pope used this as an opportunity to unite
Europe. Catholic forces were fighting with each other all over Europe and the Pope
came up with an idea to get all that war out of Europe and send it somewhere else,
Jerusalem ; fighting together as one big army. He promised that all of those who
wanted to volunteer would be repented of their sins. Feudal lords, knights and
peasants were convinced by Pope Urban II s speech that it was their duty as
Christians to fight in the
Air Pollution
Air Pollution today has lead CDC s fight against environmental related respiratory
illness, including asthma. An estimated number of 6.5 million deaths are attributed
each year to poor air quality, making this the world s largest threat to human
health.According to the World Energy Outlook and the IEA estimate that death due
to household air pollutionin Africa may decrease by 110,00 to 2040.However, due to
economic growth, urbanization and automobile emissions, outdoor air pollution
may rise from 300,00 to 450,000 over the same period. Am going to be looking at
the causes of air pollution. the problems emerging with air pollution and also how
we as a community can help decrease the amount of death rate associated with air
pollution.I remember growing up in Africa Air pollution was always a talk about a
subject that always comes out because it is really contagious due to the fact that we
are breathing bad air that is caused by our human contribution to the environment.Air
pollution is considered to be a public healthproblem, it is responsible for most of our
health problems after some research has been conducted in many different parts of
the world and regions. According to the Geochemistry and Health paleopathological
research suggests that air pollution is a form of smoke, plagued our oldest

The Theories Of The Theory Of Learning Essay
Timothy Shane Mitchell Rough draft Intro Metacognition can be considered as part
of constructivist theory, and can be best conceptualized as thinking about thinking .
While metacognition began to rise into common usage in the 1970s, there is no
agreed upon concept. A lack of a clearly guided conceptual framework, as noted by
Winters et al. (2008), creates a confusion of terminology and the lack of a single
definition. While there are competing theoretical models and some disagreement over
how best to define the term and its constituent parts, it is generally agreed the topic of
metacognition is concerned with metacognitive knowledge, metacognitive
experience, and metacognitive regulation and monitoring. (Flavell, 1979; Hacker,
Dunlosky, Glaesser, 1998; McCormick, 2003; Zimmerman Schunk, 2011; McLeod,
1997; Schneider Lockl, 2002; Cross Paris, 1988; Flavell, 1979; Paris Winograd, 1990;
Schraw Moshman, 1995; Schraw et al., 2006; Whitebread et al., 1990). Metacognition
and definition Metacognitive knowledge is both having knowledge and having
awareness of that knowledge. Metacognitive regulation is the procedural knowledge
used to regulate cognitive processes and consists of four components, according to
Brown (1987): planning, monitoring, evaluating, and revising. These components are
not dependent on domain specific and structural knowledge. (Wineburg, 2001)
Metacognitive monitoring uses two different types of cognitive processes, one
associated with accurate
The Rolling Stones And The Stones

Stones created some of the most widely known tunes and they also created one of the
most iconic styles of music, rock and roll. The Rolling Stoneswere defined by the

boyhood friendship of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, formed in 1957. In October
1960 Richards and Jagger ran into each other. They both noticed their enthusiasm or
the rock and roll and blues music. After the encounter Richards soon joined Little

The United States Presidency And Executive Privilege Essay
The United States Presidency and Executive Privilege Throughout American history,
after the establishment of the U.S. Constitution, the validity of executive privilege
has been questioned in federal courts and among legal scholars on countless
occasions. According to Merriam Webster, executive privilege entails, exemption
from legally enforced disclosure of communications within the executive branch of
government when such disclosure would adversely affect the functions and decision
making processes of the executive branch (Merriam Webster). In other words,
executive privilege is the notion that the President is exempt from having to give
evidence or disclose information to congressional hearings or to judicial inquiries.
Executive privilege also typically includes immunity from legal disputes involving the
presidency. Although not officially referred to as executive privilege until
Eisenhower s presidency, the first argument of executive privilege or immunity took
place during George Washington s presidency (The Constitution and Executive
Privilege). Claiming executive privilege has been a common occurrence throughout
all U.S. presidencies and continuing with President Obama. Those who argue against
the legitimacy of executive privilege use the reasoning that it is not constitutional
because it is not explicitly mentioned in the Constitution and interrupts the separation
of powers. On the other hand, many legal scholars assert that executive privilege is
necessary for
Essay On The Jesuits And The Medieval Inquisition
Questioning the Jesuits and the Medieval Inquisition
Holding Bibles rather than brutal torture weapons, the Jesuits contrasted the looks of
their ancestors, the harrowing Medieval Inquisitors. As the Jesuits, a group formed
during the Renaissance with the purpose of responding to the Reformation, traveled
Europe and other countries, they slowed down the spread of Protestantism by
reaching out to non Christians and educating people on the teachings of the Catholic
Church. The Papal Inquisitors, a group that played a major role in the Medieval
Inquisition during the heart of the rough Middle Ages, slowed down the spread of
beliefs that went against the teachings of the Church, but did so at the price of killing
and exposing possible heretics. Both groups were able to respond strongly to the
questioning of Catholic Church teachings; however, one responded with words and
wisdom, while the other responded with threats and spilt blood. The Jesuits of the
Counter Reformation were more successful in morally spreading the values of
Catholicism than the loathed Papal Inquisitors of the Medieval Inquisition.
The Papal Inquisitors of the Medieval Inquisition were violent people and, while they
succeeded in removing heretics from society, they did so in an unholy way that
caused fear and mistrust to surround the Medieval Catholic Church. In 1233, Pope
Gregory IX charged the Dominicans, a religious order sanctioned in 1216, with the
task of removing all Cathars and religious heretics
Political Ideologies And The Basic Philosophy Of A

Any social and political system that is established in any nation is designed on the
fundamental principles of their existence, which define their cultures, their needs,
their demands and the concept of their living. From this we can deduce that a kind
of charter comprising of the values, ideas, thoughts, principles and the ethical
boundaries of a society, that works for the construction of a social embodiment of a
country and graphs out certain templates of actions to be followed is known as a
political ideology. Political ideologies help in the enhancements of the basic
philosophy of a community. It enables the analysis of the definition of their existence
and gives them a medium to work upon their planning of developments. Social...

It covers up the rights of females of all ages and supports them in the demand of
equality in social, cultural, educational, political, economic, recreational,

century when the concept behind this ideology was entirely different to what it is
perceived today. Feminism was composed to bring about justice to the
underprivileged members of the society, irrespective of their caste, color, race or
gender. Feminism catered to audiences who were discarded from the civil setup
because they lacked the normal atonement to the living standards brought about by
the trend setters. Feminism aimed at highlighting the plight of such individuals, by
helping people to acknowledge them and their equal stand in living. However, they
were criticized in multitudes. Quite often, the deprived groups of individual finding
refuge with such comforting agents were mostly the female classes of our society.
It should be noticed that these revolutions erupted in the western world, where
transgression of women was at its peak and the female counterparts were often
victimized to be treated as highly dejected human beings. Women laborers were paid
wages that were not even a quadrant of the amount paid to their fellow male
workers, they was no law against sexual and physical abuse against young girls. This

Wickham Masculinity
We live in a society which idealises a man of big muscles, big egos and small
brains. In this generation, it s all about looks and how men portray themselves to

on the pressure of masculinityour society enforced on men . To my understanding,
four out of ten males feel they lack the qualities and abilities that partners look for in
a man, with 61% of all respondents agreeing that men are stereotyped in the media.

In a letter to her aunt, she describes that whether married or single, he [Wickham]

Conflict resolution in the workplace
Conflict resolution in the workplace Introduction Conflict is a fact in any
relationship including the work area. Still, it is important to emphasize that some
conflicts should not be seen as good or bad, they are just differences. Many times
when there are disagreements between players these issues are left on the table
without giving much emphasis. Unfortunately some of these conflicts have reached a
level that ends in a physical altercation. When things get out of proportion, the sports
psychologist is called in to intervene as a third party to mediate the situation. This
process can take weeks. This paper attempts to raise awareness to owners of The

Now, I stress the fact that these conflicts can happen between teammates, managers
to players and vice versa, or between managers and coaches. Unsolved, or
unsatisfactorily resolved conflicts perceived by one or all parties in the situation can
lead to worse consequences, (Jehn, Rupert, Nauta, 2006).
Conflicts do not always come to light immediately because parties will intent to use
mechanisms to deal or solve them. These mechanisms are not always the most
appropriate. A manager o coach that becomes aware of something going wrong with
their team should pay attention and try to solve it before it escalates to another level,
(Fisher Santana Gonzalez, (2013). Addressing a conflict as soon as possible does not
mean to be made lightly or quickly. Individuals serving as mediators must be
impartial, show true interest between the parties, and above all be prepared in the
area of conflict resolution. A mediator should never favor any party, (Montgomery,
1995). Studies related to the perception of asymmetry (inequity or favoritism) in the
process of settlement of conflict demonstrate that this can lead to absenteeism, lack of
motivation and job dissatisfaction after the resolution, (Jehn et al., 2006).

In fact, the bond was so strong, that at the Battle of Valley Forge in the winter of
1777, when a cluster of jealous officers interested in trying to have a sentiment
developed against Washington to have Congress relieve him of the command of the
Continental Army, they were unable to gain the support of Lafayette, who in turn

Washington replied to Lafayette in a letter that was marked by his sincere

Washington was a strong and patriotic leader.
Following the harsh and bitter winter in Valley Forge, Lafayette kept the colonists
spirits high and burnished his credentials as an intelligent leader whilst helping to
draw more French resources to the colonial side. In May 1778, he outsmarted the
British soldiers sent to capture him at Bunker Hill which was later renamed Lafayette

Lafayette repeatedly traveled back and forth to France to press Louis XVI for more
aid, and in return he assumed increased military responsibility upon his return to

Ellen Zane had her work cut out for her at Tufts NEMC. The Tufts University

in financial difficulty, was falling behind other teaching and research AMCs, and
was not effectively serving its local community. Beginning on the day she accepted
her position as CEO, Ellen Zane started on a path of reform. Upon learning that the
hospital only had 10 months of cash on hand, she began brainstorming on how to
make the hospital financially viable, starting by meeting payroll needs first. She

In analyzing this case study, we looked toward the McKinsey 7 S Model. This
model was created and developed by Peters and Waterman of McKinsey and
Company. They investigated 43 companies in the US, such as IMB, McDonald s, TI,
HP, etc., all of which were outstanding in their industries, and found common points
of success for these organizations. The McKinsey Model is the result of this research.
The model consists of 7 elements: Shared Value, Strategy, Structure, Systems, Style,
Staff, and Skill. The elements are of crucial importance to the organization and need
to be aligned when organizations experience change or challenges. These elements
have been outlined below.
Strategy
Strategy refers to the plan or action taken to achieve organizational goals. When
Ellen took over Tufts NEMC, the hospital was struggling with payroll and scale.
Ellen had to focus on meeting payroll, a short term strategy, and could not focus
entirely on the longer term. She took some immediate measures to help cut cost

The others are what give the films their strength and masterful expression.
Over the moderately artistic life of Salinger, a large portion of his stories concern
different encounters of the anecdotal Glass family over the mid twentieth century
in New York City. The film focuses on the Glass family s seven intelligent and
savvy youngsters, Seymour, Buddy, Zooey and Franny, every one of whom show
up in scenes of the film Pari (Salinger). The suicide of Seymour Glass, the most
established and most magnetically splendid of the Glass kids, is depicted in
Salinger s A Perfect Day for Bananafish, the story that propelled Salinger to fame.
Parts of this story, however in modified shape and set later in time, are delineated in
Pari. Be that as it may, generally, Pari mirrors the two stories, Franny and Zooey,
which Salinger set near one another in time. Together, those two stories relate the
improvement of Franny s strange world. Franny has long and close relationship
with her sibling Zooey (Salinger). In spite of the fact that Seymour had kicked the
bucket seven years prior, significant reference is made to his solid scholarly impact
on both Zooey and Franny in those two stories. Exchanging a composed anecdotal
story into film regularly displays issues to the movie producer, especially regarding

Public Eye on Sexual Offenders Essay example
Public Eye on Sexual Offenders In preparing for this essay it has been identified
that sexual offenders are not a homogenous group of individuals and that this is an
umbrella term used to describe a range of behaviours ranging from acts of
voyeurism and exhibitionism, to more serious acts of pedophilia and rape. For the
purpose of this essay I have chosen to focus on the more serious forms of sex
offending which in my opinion, are the cause of much of the current attention. In
order to understand why sexual offenders attract so much attention I will begin by
considering today s society and the emergence of post modernist values and the
preoccupation with risk. I shall then go on to consider... Show more content on

It was during the period of modernity which stems back to the 18th century, that
notions of tradition, feudalism and superstition began to be replaced by reasoning,
science and exploration. There was a move away from harsh penal conditions and
a move towards reforming individuals. It was during this period of modernity that
there existed societal consensus and a general air of optimism which generated
high levels of trust and respect for people in authority. During the mid 1980s post
modernism emerged as an area of academic study, and it is this which currently
describes today s developed world. Attempts have been made to chart the shift
from modernism to post modernism, however this is largely attributed to the work
of Ulrich Beck and what he describes as the emergence of a risk society (Beck
1986). Beck argued that the public are constantly being confronted with socially
created risks which endanger survival (Beck 1986, p32). He saw one of these being
globalisation, whereby communication is now effortless, thus increasing the risk of
messages being distorted and information saturated which hence has the potential to
perturb (Beck, 1986). Another was the creation of moral panics, first introduced by
Stanley Cohen in his book Folk Devils and Moral Panics in 1972. He identified a

Pi there are many literary devices used to present the different themes in the novel.
The main literary device used in Life of Pi is symbolism. Symbolism is often used
to represent an object to something else, either by association or by resemblance.
Most of the names of animals, objects and even humans in this novel have a symbolic
meaning. In Yann Martels Life of Pi, symbolism such as pi s name, the colour orange
and the algae island, are used throughout the novel to provide Pi with protection to
help him either survive or overcome his emotional pain. The mathematical pi is

The island can be compared to the Garden of Eden. Pi discovers the black fruit on
the twisted branches of the tree of knowledge of Good and Evil and his illusion of
a perfect island is destroyed. There is a heaven and hell type scenario with the
passing of each day and entering of each night. At day the meerkats eat without
having to kill and show no fear not even towards Richard Parker. At night however,
the ecosystem of the island feeds on itself. Pi then realizes, *he+ preferred to set
off and perish in search of my own kind than to live a lonely half life of physical
comfort and spiritual death on the murderous island (Martel, ). The algae island
provided Pi with a protection from the struggle he had to survive on his journey
across the Pacific. The island provided Pi with food such as the algae and the
meerkats which he did not have while he was on the boat. It also provided Pi with
shelter against storms; he also did not have that in the boat. Yet Pi still left the
island because he realized to live in this island he would surely die without ever
meeting another human being again. Pi left this lifestyle and chose to go with
Richard Parker back into the voyage across the Pacific. The last object of
symbolism is the colour orange. The colour orange is shown to be associated with
survival. However, Pi has been exposed to the colour orange before through
Hinduism. In Hinduism the colour orange is used to symbolize fire, when the religious
The First Atomic Structure And Its Impact On Science

everything could be broken down into very small particles. These small particles are
atoms, which it is what atomic structure is all about. Atomic structures are visual
demonstrations used to help understand how an atom looks like on the interior in the

Journalism and the Internet
Journalism and the Internet
The development of new technologies and mass media influenced dramatically
modern culture. In actuality, people spend a considerable part of their life while
watching television and surfing Internet. At the same time, today, mass media
become more and more diverse offering the audience different products in order to
attract a possibly larger amount of viewers. In such a situation, many companies
operating in entertainment industry and television attempt to conduct marketing
researches and develop effective marketing strategies to introduce their products to
the mass audience. For this purpose, they use a variety of tools, such as
questionnaires, audience measurements, ratings, face to face interviews and ... Show

In addition, the Internet allows journalists to communicate with their audience. What
is meant here is the fact that unlike other mass media, the Internet is truly interactive
to the extent that journalists and audience can exchange ideas freely without any
significant limitations. For instance, journalists can receive a feedback from the
audience in a matter of minutes after the material they have prepared is published on
the web. In such a way, journalists can receive the feedback from the audience and
develop their professional work taking into consideration needs and wants of the
audience or simply sharing their ideas with the audience attempting to persuade the
audience, and so on. In other words, the Internet is becomes not just a means of
bombardment of the audience with information that leads to the overwhelming
impact of media on the consciousness of people. Instead, the Internet becomes the
means of communication between the audience and journalists.
The commercialization of modern media affects the work of journalists and the
development of mass media at large. In this respect, it should be said that some
specialists have a very interesting and original view on the influence of advertising
and mass media on consumers and on consumers themselves. For instance, Naom
Chomsky treats consumers as product. In order to understand his point of view it
would be enough to study
Salad Bowl Analysis
The immigration is always an important issue throughout the history of the United
States. The government is struggling to assist the diversity of cultures and ethnic
groups because immigrants continuously bring their traditions into America. This
raised the metaphor melting pot and salad bowl, which described the term of
assimilation and integration of the many different cultures in America. Today, the
United Statessociety no longer matches the melting potmetaphor; it shifts to salad
bowl metaphor. This concept is different from the notion of the melting pot. The
salad bowl means that the immigrants keep their unique customs and cultures, the
integration degree of immigrant merge into the American community, and the youth
immigrant generations recognize their heritage of origin culturein the mainstream of
American culture. For these reasons, the salad bowl metaphor would be more
appropriate to America society these days.
The term melting pot was generally used in the United States after it was used as a
metaphor for describing an association of cultures and ethnicities in 1908. Many
different types of people blend together as one in a society. America is always a
nation of immigration, based on the history element of the country. The generations
of immigrants have mixed together. They have refused their origin traditions and
cultures to become totally assimilated into American society. That was why
American citizen considered United States was a melting pot. In contrast to the
soup bowl theory, there is the emergence of salad bowl metaphor. It asserts that the
integration of the many different cultures of the United States people combines like
a big salad bowl. It means many cultures, languages, and ethic co exist in peaceful,
like all kinds of ingredients in a bowl of salad. It mixes together, but it does not
dissolve into one.
Although the melting pot theory seems to be outdated in American society today,
however, there are still a lot of conservatives to favor their views on this metaphor.
They think the fusing of different ethnic group is essential for building a cohesive
society. Immigrants should give up their origin tradition national identity, and they try
to entirely assimilate

KPMG advised New Century to alter the way it calculated reserves for repurchasing
mortgage loans that didn t meet certain conditions, according to the Los Angeles
complaint. New Century s calculations for required reserves were wrong and violated
generally accepted accounting principles, the complaint said.
Mistakes in calculation grew to more than $300 million and repurchase requests
soared to $8 billion once New Century s true financial condition was known, the
complaint said. The company could no longer borrow money to finance its lending
business and collapsed owing billions.

Any claim that we acquiesced to client demands is unsupportable, Ginsburg said.
KPMG acted in accordance with professional standards in New Century, and we will

Female Sexuality And The Paradox Of Sexual Freedom By...
Freedom, opportunities, and information are some features of this modern society.
Clearly, humans are now having a very different life compared to the past. Along
with this well developed world, people get more chances to express how they think,
do what they want, and love who they love. Especially young people, they become
more independent and are capable of living their own lives. However, while society
provides people a lot of benefits, it actually makes their lives even more complex at
the same time by leaving them pressures and confusions of who they really are. In her
essay, Selections from Hard to Get:Twenty Something Women and the Paradox of
Sexual Freedom, Leslie Bell mentions that while in this new in between

opportunities about their sexual lives than previous generations, they are struggling
with the paradoxes of their relationships and desires. Bell suggests that social
expectations and culture guidelines, which are conventions of femalesexuality and
stereotypes of being a good girl, prevent these young women from pursuing their
sexual desires and limiting their relationships with men. However, even these
women have chosen the way they live and what kind of sexual life they want in
order to be bad girls to break those old rules, they ended with losing their identities. In
general, female sexuality is impacted more by establishing a women s identity rather

The life of Harry Potter changed when he was finally introduced to his true identity, a
wizard, and had to attend school at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
As for Jane, she eventually had the chance to be away from the Reeds and study at
Lowood Institution, a school for orphaned girls. School was both tough and
pleasant for Harry and Jane. Both had instant friends and instant enemies.
Attending school is perhaps a taste of normalcy in their lives, except that their past
still haunted and defined their characters. Harry was known at school as the boy
who lived having survived the attack of a notorious wizard (Rowling 18); while
Jane had to carry with her the rude description that her aunt made of her which is
deceitful which resulted in her being labeled as liar. As a result, both Harry and
Jane had to face the difficulty of trying to fit in and at times, had to bear the bitter
consequences. Hard as it may seem, Harry and Jane managed to get through the most
difficult phases at school and eventually found solace and comfort in the company of
their true friends. Harry Potter discovers true friendships at Hogwarts through Ron
Weasly and Hermione Granger. They protect and defend each other oftentimes with
the help of Hagrid, a staff member at Hogwarts who had grown fond of them and
protects Harry in so many ways. Jane Eyre, on the other hand,
2nd Millennium and Century Opium
History of Opium
Opium is a narcotic drug prepared from the juice of the opium poppy, Pa paver
somniferum, a plant probably indigenous in the south of
Europe and western Asia, but now so widely cultivated that its original habitat is
uncertain. The medicinal properties of the juice have been recognized from a very
early period. It was known to Theophrastus and appears in his time to have consisted
of an extract of the whole plant, since Dioscorides, about A.D. 77, draws a
distinction between it and an extract of the entire herb derived from the capsules
alone. From the 1st to the 12th century the opium of Asia Minor appears to have been
the only kind known in commerce. In the

The cultivation increased so rapidly that at the beginning of the 20th century opium
was produced in every province of China. The western provinces yielded and the
other provinces produced nearly two thirds. Of this amount China required for home
consumption, the remainder being chiefly exported to Indochina, while more foreign
opium was imported into China. Of the whole amount of opium used in China and
about one seventh came from India. The Chinese government regarded the use of
opium as one of the most acute moral and economic questions which as a nation they
had to face decided in 1906 to put an end to the use of the drug within ten years, and
issued an edict on the 20th of September 1906, forbidding the consumption of
opium and the cultivation of the poppy. As an. indication of their earnestness of
purpose the government allowed officials a period of six months in which to break
off the use of opium, under heavy penalties if they failed to do so. In October of the

the powers interested, and as a result a conference met at Shanghai on the 1st of

features in textbooks increases each supplier in the supply chain s role will change

ever changing data and information provided to students in textbooks; they need
to be able to adapt to other forms of text as well such as e books. As technology
evolves as does the need for better graphics in textbooks. Many students are visual

Printing companies also need to be kept in the know, and possibly develop new

The Medieval period was dominated by the feudal system and the role of the
Medieval knights and their servants. Articles about their life, living conditions,
clothing, weapons, training, armor, tournaments and jousts of the Medieval Knights

often takes us to the Medieval knights and their ladies. It was the duty of a
Medieval Knight to learn how to fight and so serve their liege Lord according to the

history. Weapon practise included enhancing skills in the two handed sword, battle

Mental Health Problems Of The Appalachian Mountain
Region
The person we will become is shaped from the time we are born. Every experience
we have has an effect on us. It can be argued that the experiences we have as
children have the greatest effect on how we behave later in life. No two people
encounter the exact same things throughout their life. Experiences are dictated by the
people you live with, the events that occur in your life, and where you grow up. The
Appalachian mountain region has been considered to be a different world from
mainstream America since the first settlers arrived from the borderlands of Scotland,
Ireland, and England. Several scholars have examined the Appalachian region to
assess behavior due to mental healthissues. Several studies have found that a higher

Along with being around these things that are detrimental to their mental well being,
these children grow up in an environment where getting help for mental issues is not
the norm. As Appalachiais a rural region, it is more difficult for the residents of this
region to access mental health professionals compared to the residents of urban
areas. Along with the lack of access to help, there is a cultural do it yourself attitude
amongst Appalachian people, meaning that they are less likely to reach out for help
even when it is available. Because of this mentality, asking for help comes with a
social stigma in this region. Since children grow up seeing that their parents do not
ask for help, they feel that they should also fix themselves on their own.
The first obstacle that must be overcome when Appalachians want to get help for
mental health issues is the lack of access to mental health professionals. While there
are mental health treatment options available, they are mainly located in the more
urban areas of the region (Susan Emily Keefe, Appalachia s Children). All too
often, people are unaware of the services available to them for the treatment of

4. Recommendation and suggestion Supply chain network apparently confronts a
more noteworthy measure of danger over different territories of a specific
association for its worldwide nature and direct effect on the association s monetary
execution. Whether a firm is managing quality and security difficulties, supply
deficiencies, legitimate issues, security issues, arrangement or natural agreeability
some component of danger is constantly present. Therefore, the corporation should
always be ready to face any situation and deal with risk and threat mitigation.
Organizations having supply chain world wide face more risks such as supply
disruptions, longer lead times etc. caused by global customs, foreign policy
regulations, port delays, political instability, recession in a specific region s economy
etc. According to a research by The Supply Chain Management Faculty at the
University of Tennessee (Summer 2014), the management against supply chain risk

2.Risk assessment and Prioritizing: Which ones to be given more
Total Hip Arthroplasty ( Tha )
Introduction:
Total hip arthroplasty (THA), commonly known as hip replacement, is a
reconstructive orthopedic procedure that involves the surgical excision of the head
and proximal neck of the femur and removal of the acetabular cartilage and
subchondral bone(A). The damaged joint is replaced with an implant that mimics the
motion of the natural joint and is made from combinations of metal, plastic and/or
ceramic components(D).
Joint replacement is one of five priority areas targeted for shorter wait times in
Canada. Ontario s current wait time is 207 day.(F) The number of THAs in Canada
increased 11% between 2006 2007 and 2010 2011. In 2013 2014, there were 49,503
hospitalizations for hip replacements(B). THA has been used to manage conditions
in which the hip joint has responded poorly to less invasive treatments(D). The
most common of which is severe osteoarthritis of the hip joint, which affects more
than 10% of Canadians aged 15 or older(G), and accounts for 70% of cases. The
procedure has proved to be remarkably successful in eliminating pain and restoring
function in hips severely involved with diseases, improving mobility, daily
functioning and quality of life(A,D,G). THA provides pain relief and improves
physical function and quality of life in patients with end stage hip osteoarthritis. The
incidence of THA is expected to increase due to the growing elderly population.
Nevertheless, THA is becoming more common in younger populations because of the

Visual Rhetoric Essay.pdf

  • 1. Visual Rhetoric Essay Crafting a Visual Rhetoric Essay can prove to be a challenging endeavor, demanding a unique set of skills that go beyond traditional written expression. Unlike conventional essays that rely predominantly on textual analysis, this genre necessitates a keen eye for visual elements, requiring the writer to decode and interpret images, symbols, and design choices. One of the primary challenges lies in effectively merging the visual and verbal components seamlessly. The writer must navigate through the intricate dance of images and words, ensuring that both contribute meaningfully to the overall argument. This demands a nuanced understanding of visual rhetoric principles, such as color theory, composition, and the impact of visual elements on persuasion. Furthermore, the selection of appropriate visual artifacts for analysis is a meticulous task. It involves not only identifying compelling visuals but also deciphering their intended rhetorical messages. Unveiling the layers of meaning embedded in an image or design requires a level of critical thinking and visual literacy that may be unfamiliar to those accustomed to traditional essay writing. The synthesis of textual and visual analysis poses another layer of complexity. The challenge is to strike a balance between describing the visual elements and articulating their rhetorical significance. This requires a mastery of language that can convey the visual experience and evoke the intended emotions or reactions in the reader. Moreover, the dynamic nature of visual rhetoric, with its subjective and evolving interpretations, adds an extra layer of complexity. Writers must grapple with the fluidity of visual communication, acknowledging that interpretations may vary based on individual perspectives, cultural contexts, and evolving societal norms. In conclusion, composing a Visual Rhetoric Essay demands a unique skill set that extends beyond traditional essay writing. It requires a fusion of visual literacy, critical thinking, and eloquent expression to decode and articulate the persuasive power of images. Successfully navigating these challenges can result in a compelling essay that not only analyzes but also communicates the intricate relationship between visuals and rhetoric. For those seeking assistance with similar essays or any other academic writing tasks, a resource like HelpWriting.net can provide valuable support. Visual Rhetoric EssayVisual Rhetoric Essay
  • 2. The Downfall Of The Romanov Dynasty In a burgeoning climate of autocracy, the Romanov dynasty was firmly established in the societal framework of early 20th century Russia. Having been in varying degrees of absolute political control over an approximate time period of four hundred years, their eventual undoing marked a power shift polarising the imperial regime laid out by countless Tsars beforehand. Nicholas II, the last Emperor of Russia , is recognised to have a degree of personal responsibility for the downfall of the Romanovs, yet the extent to which his decision making skills can be held accountable is questioned by some historians. Despite this, multiple political, social, and military facets of Nicholas II s reign were handled with instability, and his perceived lack of legitimacy due to this poor decision making ultimately was a major causative factor to the downfall of his family s vast dynasty. Various aspects of Nicholas II s political decisions reflected his clear unsuitability for the role of Tsar, and these decisions form a preliminary basis for both his own legacy of incompetency the eventual undoing of the Romanovs. In comparison to rulers preceding, Nicholas was ill prepared for the role: his father, Alexander III, failed to adequately develop his son s understanding of civil state responsibilities before his death in 1894, under the guise that he would live long enough to teach Nicholas of these affairs. Upon his consecration as Tsar, Nicholas spoke in his diary of his apprehensiveness

CJ Foods make three types of sauces that they sell in grocery stores located in East Asia. The three types of Korean barbeque sauces are: Original, Pineapple, and Hot Spicy. These sauces are made by mixing different percentages of five ingredients, and these ingredients include: beef, bean, pineapple, hot pepper, and sugar. For the original sauce the ingredients are twenty seven percent beef, forty seven percent bean, eleven percent hot pepper, and fifteen percent sugar. The pineapple sauce consists of ten percent beef, twenty five percent bean, fifty percent pineapple, ten percent hot pepper, and five percent sugar. The hot and spicy sauce consists of fifteen percent beef, twenty percent bean, forty percent hot pepper, and twenty five percent sugar. The profit contribution per pound for the original sauce is $1.55, for the pineapple sauce it is $2.10, and for the hot and spicy sauce it is $2.35. The case study is asking the reader to create a linear programmingmodel, that will allow the company to use the available ingredients to maximize profit. The problem was identified by the data, because the cost of ingredients is not included in their profit analysis. The cost of the ingredients varies greatly, because of the commodity market. With this case study, we are trying to find the optimal production for each sauce, is the purchase of additional pounds of each type of ingredients beneficial,
  • 4. An Analysis of Policy and Business Solutions to Global... As scientific research contends, discrepancies in the earth s climate will have a significant impact on the environment and humans. Human habitation and economic patterns will all have to shift as entire ecosystems are altered because of these climate trends. As scientists continue to present the case that climate changeis a serious problem that must be addressed through societal efforts, members of the public and private sector are beginning to recognize their obligation to take action. Yet, in order to make sound managerial decisions regarding climate change it is important to understand the nature of the problem. Further, research reveals that the levels of greenhouse gases has increased between the base periods of 1961 and 1990, with a warming of the atmosphere accompanying the increase in carbon dioxide levels (University Corporation for Atmospheric Research, 2014). These trends will have serious consequences for humans around the globe. The reason that climate changes impact human life significantly is that climate interacts significantly with the ecosystem. The climate system is composed of the atmosphere, the hydrosphere, the physical Earth, the biosphere, and the cryosphere, a term designating solid forms of water that are permanent landmarks on the Earth s surface (Lutgens Tarbuck, 2013). Thus, when a change to the Earth s atmospheric temperature occurs, it not only impacts the atmosphere, but all components of the environment are impacted as well. For example, if a drop in temperature takes place over a series of time, this modifies the features of the Earth s surface, which can make it uninhabitable for entire species. This also impacts the food and plant sources that humans rely upon to survive while making different locations less desirable for habitation. Thus, humans are profoundly affected by global trends in climate. Causes of Climate Change The causes

The Australian and New Zealand Army Corps, later known as ANZAC, has a legend, although many also refer to it as the ANZAC spirit. The ANZAC legend was created on April 25th 1915, but was only really acknowledged after their eight months of fighting in Gallipoli. The legend that the men created is something for our countries to be proud of but it does not refer to their fighting ability, as they actually lost at battle, but instead, it refers to the Australians and New Zealanders great display of mateship, discipline, ambition, endurance and courage during their fighting. The landing at Gallipoli is seen as a story of courage, bravery and the endurance during a time filled with death and despair. The fact that they were under the poor leadership from London, and their unsuccessful strategies, cost most of them their lives. But even under London s poor leadership, they still held strong in their bravery through their hard times, it was acts like these that earned them their legend. But it was this act that earned them the ANZAC legend. Their unwavering bravery through this even earned some praise from war correspondents, such as Charles Bean. ... The 6 key compensation and benefits between United Kingdom and United that I will address are paid maternity leave, paid paternity leave, general parental leave, paid holiday allowances, paid sick leaveand unemployment benefits. The first key difference that I will discuss is maternityleave. In all the countries in Europe, the maternity leave minimum amount is 14 weeks but the time and pay that is offered varies. Out of Europe, United Kingdom is one of the least generous when it comes paid sick leave as they offer up to 28 weeks and it is paid at a flat rate of around ВЈ88 a week. Lastly, the key difference I will discuss is unemployment benefits. In the U.S they offer between 40% and 50% of earnings for up to 26 weeks, which also depends on the individual state. Many sellers/buyers that have had bad experiences with amateur real estate agents have the conceptions that all agents are the same. I have compiled this list on the best actions you should perform before hiring any agent. 1.Real estate agents and Realtors are not the same. Realtors are licensed to sell properties by the national association of Realtors (NAR). Realtors also have to sign a list of 17 articles containing the standards of practice they must follow making them slightly more trustworthy than a real estate agent. 2. Ask people in your neighborhood for recommendations, if you have any friends that have recently moved in a new house ask them about their experience with their agent. Client testimonials can be one of the best ways to find out information about your agent. You can also ask your previous real estate agents for referrals, agents usually connect with each other which means that they know which ones are the best in the business. 3. Take your time before you select which agent you want to hire, choosing your agent s in a haste can be a big mistake. They would need to consider customer attitudes towards the Cott brand, as well as brands that want to buy the Cott product. They will need to keep up their quality standards to meet those that can compete with Pepsi and Coke; otherwise, their product will not provide customers with the comparable value. When the Seljuk Turks took control of Jerusalem, thirty thousand Christians were massacred and the remaining Christians were mistreated. Christians were forbidden from making pilgrimages to the Holy City. The Turks then threatened to invade the Byzantine Empireand take Constantinople. Byzantine Emperor Alexius I made a special appeal to Urban II for help. The idea that Europe could be united under one common enemy, and awakened the desire to save the Holy Land and Jerusalem from the Turks, and the hope for acquiring new territory in the East were all causes of the Crusades. A significant cause for the Crusades was Pope Urban II s call to fight the Seljuk Turks and defend Constantinople in order to unite Europe. Pope Urban II explained to his people that Alexius of the Byzantine Empire needed help in defending Constantinople from the Seljuk Turks and asked for all of the true Christians to join in the fight. The Pope used this as an opportunity to unite Europe. Catholic forces were fighting with each other all over Europe and the Pope came up with an idea to get all that war out of Europe and send it somewhere else, Jerusalem ; fighting together as one big army. He promised that all of those who wanted to volunteer would be repented of their sins. Feudal lords, knights and peasants were convinced by Pope Urban II s speech that it was their duty as Christians to fight in the

  • 13. The Theories Of The Theory Of Learning Essay Timothy Shane Mitchell Rough draft Intro Metacognition can be considered as part of constructivist theory, and can be best conceptualized as thinking about thinking . While metacognition began to rise into common usage in the 1970s, there is no agreed upon concept. A lack of a clearly guided conceptual framework, as noted by Winters et al. (2008), creates a confusion of terminology and the lack of a single definition. While there are competing theoretical models and some disagreement over how best to define the term and its constituent parts, it is generally agreed the topic of metacognition is concerned with metacognitive knowledge, metacognitive experience, and metacognitive regulation and monitoring. (Flavell, 1979; Hacker, Dunlosky, Glaesser, 1998; McCormick, 2003; Zimmerman Schunk, 2011; McLeod, 1997; Schneider Lockl, 2002; Cross Paris, 1988; Flavell, 1979; Paris Winograd, 1990; Schraw Moshman, 1995; Schraw et al., 2006; Whitebread et al., 1990). Metacognition and definition Metacognitive knowledge is both having knowledge and having awareness of that knowledge. Metacognitive regulation is the procedural knowledge used to regulate cognitive processes and consists of four components, according to Brown (1987): planning, monitoring, evaluating, and revising. These components are not dependent on domain specific and structural knowledge. (Wineburg, 2001) Metacognitive monitoring uses two different types of cognitive processes, one associated with accurate

  • 16. The United States Presidency And Executive Privilege Essay The United States Presidency and Executive Privilege Throughout American history, after the establishment of the U.S. Constitution, the validity of executive privilege has been questioned in federal courts and among legal scholars on countless occasions. According to Merriam Webster, executive privilege entails, exemption from legally enforced disclosure of communications within the executive branch of government when such disclosure would adversely affect the functions and decision making processes of the executive branch (Merriam Webster). In other words, executive privilege is the notion that the President is exempt from having to give evidence or disclose information to congressional hearings or to judicial inquiries. Executive privilege also typically includes immunity from legal disputes involving the presidency. Although not officially referred to as executive privilege until Eisenhower s presidency, the first argument of executive privilege or immunity took place during George Washington s presidency (The Constitution and Executive Privilege). Claiming executive privilege has been a common occurrence throughout all U.S. presidencies and continuing with President Obama. Those who argue against the legitimacy of executive privilege use the reasoning that it is not constitutional because it is not explicitly mentioned in the Constitution and interrupts the separation of powers. On the other hand, many legal scholars assert that executive privilege is necessary for

Essay On The Jesuits And The Medieval Inquisition Questioning the Jesuits and the Medieval Inquisition Holding Bibles rather than brutal torture weapons, the Jesuits contrasted the looks of their ancestors, the harrowing Medieval Inquisitors. As the Jesuits, a group formed during the Renaissance with the purpose of responding to the Reformation, traveled Europe and other countries, they slowed down the spread of Protestantism by reaching out to non Christians and educating people on the teachings of the Catholic Church. The Papal Inquisitors, a group that played a major role in the Medieval Inquisition during the heart of the rough Middle Ages, slowed down the spread of beliefs that went against the teachings of the Church, but did so at the price of killing and exposing possible heretics. Both groups were able to respond strongly to the questioning of Catholic Church teachings; however, one responded with words and wisdom, while the other responded with threats and spilt blood. The Jesuits of the Counter Reformation were more successful in morally spreading the values of Catholicism than the loathed Papal Inquisitors of the Medieval Inquisition. The Papal Inquisitors of the Medieval Inquisition were violent people and, while they succeeded in removing heretics from society, they did so in an unholy way that caused fear and mistrust to surround the Medieval Catholic Church. In 1233, Pope Gregory IX charged the Dominicans, a religious order sanctioned in 1216, with the task of removing all Cathars and religious heretics

Unsolved, or unsatisfactorily resolved conflicts perceived by one or all parties in the situation can lead to worse consequences, (Jehn, Rupert, Nauta, 2006). Conflicts do not always come to light immediately because parties will intent to use mechanisms to deal or solve them. These mechanisms are not always the most appropriate. A manager o coach that becomes aware of something going wrong with their team should pay attention and try to solve it before it escalates to another level, (Fisher Santana Gonzalez, (2013). Addressing a conflict as soon as possible does not mean to be made lightly or quickly. Individuals serving as mediators must be impartial, show true interest between the parties, and above all be prepared in the area of conflict resolution. A mediator should never favor any party, (Montgomery, 1995). Studies related to the perception of asymmetry (inequity or favoritism) in the process of settlement of conflict demonstrate that this can lead to absenteeism, lack of motivation and job dissatisfaction after the resolution, (Jehn et al., 2006).

Beck argued that the public are constantly being confronted with socially created risks which endanger survival (Beck 1986, p32). He saw one of these being globalisation, whereby communication is now effortless, thus increasing the risk of messages being distorted and information saturated which hence has the potential to perturb (Beck, 1986). The government is struggling to assist the diversity of cultures and ethnic groups because immigrants continuously bring their traditions into America. This raised the metaphor melting pot and salad bowl, which described the term of assimilation and integration of the many different cultures in America. Today, the United Statessociety no longer matches the melting potmetaphor; it shifts to salad bowl metaphor. This concept is different from the notion of the melting pot. The salad bowl means that the immigrants keep their unique customs and cultures, the integration degree of immigrant merge into the American community, and the youth immigrant generations recognize their heritage of origin culturein the mainstream of American culture. For these reasons, the salad bowl metaphor would be more appropriate to America society these days. The term melting pot was generally used in the United States after it was used as a metaphor for describing an association of cultures and ethnicities in 1908. Many different types of people blend together as one in a society. America is always a nation of immigration, based on the history element of the country. The generations of immigrants have mixed together. They have refused their origin traditions and cultures to become totally assimilated into American society. That was why American citizen considered United States was a melting pot. In contrast to the soup bowl theory, there is the emergence of salad bowl metaphor. It asserts that the integration of the many different cultures of the United States people combines like a big salad bowl. It means many cultures, languages, and ethic co exist in peaceful, like all kinds of ingredients in a bowl of salad. It mixes together, but it does not dissolve into one. Although the melting pot theory seems to be outdated in American society today, however, there are still a lot of conservatives to favor their views on this metaphor. They think the fusing of different ethnic group is essential for building a cohesive society. Immigrants should give up their origin tradition national identity, and they try to entirely assimilate

The life of Harry Potter changed when he was finally introduced to his true identity, a wizard, and had to attend school at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. As for Jane, she eventually had the chance to be away from the Reeds and study at Lowood Institution, a school for orphaned girls. School was both tough and pleasant for Harry and Jane. Both had instant friends and instant enemies. Attending school is perhaps a taste of normalcy in their lives, except that their past still haunted and defined their characters. Harry was known at school as the boy who lived having survived the attack of a notorious wizard (Rowling 18); while Jane had to carry with her the rude description that her aunt made of her which is deceitful which resulted in her being labeled as liar. As a result, both Harry and Jane had to face the difficulty of trying to fit in and at times, had to bear the bitter consequences. Hard as it may seem, Harry and Jane managed to get through the most difficult phases at school and eventually found solace and comfort in the company of their true friends. Harry Potter discovers true friendships at Hogwarts through Ron Weasly and Hermione Granger. They protect and defend each other oftentimes with the help of Hagrid, a staff member at Hogwarts who had grown fond of them and protects Harry in so many ways. Jane Eyre, on the other hand,
  • 33. 2nd Millennium and Century Opium History of Opium Opium is a narcotic drug prepared from the juice of the opium poppy, Pa paver somniferum, a plant probably indigenous in the south of Europe and western Asia, but now so widely cultivated that its original habitat is uncertain. The medicinal properties of the juice have been recognized from a very early period. It was known to Theophrastus and appears in his time to have consisted of an extract of the whole plant, since Dioscorides, about A.D. 77, draws a distinction between it and an extract of the entire herb derived from the capsules alone. The four year forced hiatus that the sport experienced from 1997 until 2001 was a direct result of the political onslaught headed by Senator John McCain (Silverman). It can be argued that the experiences we have as children have the greatest effect on how we behave later in life. No two people encounter the exact same things throughout their life. Experiences are dictated by the people you live with, the events that occur in your life, and where you grow up. Along with being around these things that are detrimental to their mental well being, these children grow up in an environment where getting help for mental issues is not the norm. As Appalachiais a rural region, it is more difficult for the residents of this region to access mental health professionals compared to the residents of urban areas. Along with the lack of access to help, there is a cultural do it yourself attitude amongst Appalachian people, meaning that they are less likely to reach out for help even when it is available. Because of this mentality, asking for help comes with a social stigma in this region. Since children grow up seeing that their parents do not ask for help, they feel that they should also fix themselves on their own. The first obstacle that must be overcome when Appalachians want to get help for mental health issues is the lack of access to mental health professionals. While there are mental health treatment options available, they are mainly located in the more urban areas of the region (Susan Emily Keefe, Appalachia s Children). All too often, people are unaware of the services available to them for the treatment of mental health disorders. Even if they do possess knowledge of what is available, it may not be feasible to get to these services. Many of the residents may not have insurance or the financial capabilities necessary to pay for treatment. Because the

Total Hip Arthroplasty ( Tha ) Introduction: Total hip arthroplasty (THA), commonly known as hip replacement, is a reconstructive orthopedic procedure that involves the surgical excision of the head and proximal neck of the femur and removal of the acetabular cartilage and subchondral bone(A). The damaged joint is replaced with an implant that mimics the motion of the natural joint and is made from combinations of metal, plastic and/or ceramic components(D). Joint replacement is one of five priority areas targeted for shorter wait times in Canada. Ontario s current wait time is 207 day.(F) The number of THAs in Canada increased 11% between 2006 2007 and 2010 2011. In 2013 2014, there were 49,503 hospitalizations for hip replacements(B). THA has been used to manage conditions in which the hip joint has responded poorly to less invasive treatments(D). The most common of which is severe osteoarthritis of the hip joint, which affects more than 10% of Canadians aged 15 or older(G), and accounts for 70% of cases. The procedure has proved to be remarkably successful in eliminating pain and restoring function in hips severely involved with diseases, improving mobility, daily functioning and quality of life(A,D,G). THA provides pain relief and improves physical function and quality of life in patients with end stage hip osteoarthritis. The incidence of THA is expected to increase due to the growing elderly population. Nevertheless, THA is becoming more common in younger populations because of the improvements in
