Price Dispersion, Competition, And The Role Of Online...
Price dispersion, competition, and the role of online travel agents: Evidence from business routes in
the Italian airline market
In this study they use research to further understand what s driving price dispersion? They
investigate very distinct factors between online travel agents and airlines direct channels influence
price dispersion. Airline markets are characterized by the existence of substantial price dispersion,
to be intended as a measure of price variations in the market. Indeed, it is not unusual to see
travelers on the same flight paying very different prices for the very same seats. This is due to the
fact that airlines are able to distinguish among different types of customers and practice price
discrimination, with the help of mechanisms such as advance selling, loyalty programs,
nonrefundable tickets, etc. In addition, airline companies typically face uncertain demand with a
fixed inventory consisting of very perishable products. Accordingly, they utilize revenue
management systems to maximize revenues by dynamically adjusting prices for their seats based
on whether the current booking is above or below expected values. The study of price dispersion in
the airline industry can provide numerous important implications for firms, consumers and
authorities in terms of firms pricing power, price discrimination, product differentiation, and
reduction of search costs. For this reason, many researchers have devoted themselves to the study
of price dispersion in

The Media Coverage Of Oscar Pistorius Case
Essay (CRM 1410)
The media coverage of Oscar Pistorius case
The theory that I will discuss for my essay is called psychological positivism. Psychological
positivism is a theory, which suggest that there is criminal personality that resides in the minds of
the criminals. The theory was designed by Austrian neurologist called Sigmund Freud. He believed
that some people committed crime due to certain internal factors that one had little or no control
over. These internal factors can be formed due to lack of parental love or it can also be formed if
an individual has suffered a tragedy in the past which can lead to an individual committing
crime. Sigmund Feud also believed that there are more than one aspects to human personality.
These aspects are id, ego and superego which developed over time in different stages in one s
life. The first thing that is developed in human personality is the id. It is a biological component
of the personality, which include human s basics. The id is our most primitive need gratification
impulses. The second interacting force that is developed in our nature is called superego, which
exist in all three of our consciousness. Superego is the higher power of our mind that is
concerned with what is socially acceptable. The third and the last aspect of our personality is
called ego which only exist in conscious and preconscious minds. The ego feature of our
personality works according to reality principle. The reality principle is the idea that the

Short Story Of Tom Brady The Great
The Greatest
Is Tom Brady the greatest QB of all time ? The question a 13 year old boy had asked his father
asked as they sat down to watch the Bills VS Patriots game after the two had arrived home from a
basketball game. Almost everybody around New England think s so .The father answered . As
they watched the game they constantly talked about how well he was playing. Just making players
that everybody said are An amazing player appear as idiots.
Later, after watching the Patriots win 41 25 and watching Tom Bradyhave an impressive game they
listened to players stats it stunned me how well Tom Brady did without making it look like he
wasn t putting any effort in to it. He threw for 315 yards and 4 touchdowns with no
interceptions. But this isn t anything special for him this season. On October 9th Tom Brady threw
for 406 yards and 3 touchdown passes with 0 interceptions with another win against the Cleveland
Browns. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Use Of Film Techniques In Sleepy Hollow
Sleepy Hollow is a gothic horror film directed by Tim Burton in 1999. It tells the story of when
Ichabod Crane is sent to the isolated town of Sleepy Hollow to solve the mystery of the Headless
Horseman. The isolated gloomy setting for example, when Ichabod Crane enters the town, the film
techniques such as music and lighting such as when the Headless Horsemanappears combined with
characters that have supernatural powers including Catrina and Lady Van Tassel reinforces the idea
that Sleepy Hollowis a gothic horror film.
The town of Sleepy Hollow is isolated, dark and gloomy, it also has contains mostly gothic
architecture. This is to support the spine chilling atmosphere that Tim Burton has intended in the
film. This is to create a theme of fear and panic towards the viewer because the idea of gothic
horror is to create a suspenseful, isolated and dark environment in the movie. An example of this is
when Ichabod Crane arrives at sleepy hollow and is instantly greeted by a grave yard and a
gloomy, foggy and gothic looking town. The setting of the place in this scene is an excellent
example of how gothic horror differs from other styles of horror. ... Show more content on

The music being played as he is hacking at the tree is there to build suspense because the audience
is supposed to wonder What is behind the tree? Lighting is another technique used in Sleepy
Hollow. An example of lighting is when The Headless Horseman appears and lightning flashes, this
is to describe that something bad is about to happen to the audience and to also build suspense
because the sudden lightning is slightly more un nerving than just The Headless Horseman coming

How Did Walt Disney Grow During The Great Depression
Walt Disney is a house hold name to most families, he is the man who is known for creating one
of the largest companies in the world (Disney). Though he almost didn t have the chance to start
this company. Starting with his love for art since he was born on 1901 in Chicago, IL. At the age
of 16 Walt Disney became a Red Cross member driving an ambulance, and this is where he began
drawings designs and cartoons in the ambulance. He then worked as a cartoonist in Kansas but that
ended fairly quickly. After that he then moved to California where he began his company with his

win 26 Oscars in his lifetime. In the 1930 s and 40 s they had employed over 1000 people, but
around that time it was a tough time for American businesses. Though Walt Disney managed to
get through all the difficulties such as the great depression, WW2, and many other diversities it
faced. To this day they are one of the largest companies, and some of their most famous movies
and stories were created by Walt and are still highly appreciated. Though WW2 did halt
production of movies for a while. Some movies where he has won awards and are still popular
are movies such as Snow White, Cinderella, and etc... But all of this was possible because he had
a dream to start a company and draw. As he once said We keep moving forward, opening new
doors, and doing new things, because we re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new

Superstitions In The Crucible
Crucible Superstitions Arthur Miller based his novel, The Crucible, on a true set of events that
occurred in Salem, Massachusetts, in the year 1692. Salem had become a town where neighbors
and enemies would blame each other of witchcraft, without actual evidence to support their
accusations. Most of the accusations led to the victim being guilty. If the Puritans thought you
were guilty, you had to either confess or be hanged. The Puritans believed that if you confessed,
God would forgive you, which suggests the way of life for the Puritans. The Puritans were big
believers of God and the bible. They believed that no one should commit sins, but if you confessed
God would forgive you. The great belief in the bible insinuated the start of witchcraft and
superstitions, because the bible expresses how one should not live with a witch. The Puritans also
had no way to explain the unnatural things that occurred around them, since they weren t as smart,
that s why they turned to blaming witches and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A death messenger is a type of death sign which can take form as a rabbit. Usually death
messengers just walk into the victims home, and in this case that is what happened according to
Elizabeth as she tells John No, she walked into the house this afternoon; I found her sittin in the
corner like she come to visit (Miller, 48). . The death messenger could have been foreshadowing
the death of any one of the Proctor household; the children, Mary Warren or John. If may have
been first thought that the death messenger was signaling the death of Elizabeth because she was
taken away by Cheever at the end of Act two but miraculously she becomes pregnant so she couldn

of the story. The death messenger from Act two was foreshadowing the death of John

The Madoff Scandal
I deeply feel that if people in general moved their emphasis on the casualties that were most in
require it would most certainly influence the scandals result. In my opinion, organizations that are
corrupted by scandal experience the stigma effects of shame a similar way people do. The
Stigmatized organizations might be ridiculed in the media, have their charitable gifts rejected, and
experience a mass migration of ability. The Securities and Exchange Commission said the trick
went into disrepair when the economy floundered and individuals began making a request to trade
out their ventures. Actually, just a small amount of Madoff s a great many casualties have become
the greater part of their cash back. For instance, Irving Picard, the court named trustee in the
Madoff case, has recouped more than $9.5 billion of the $20 billion in stolen resources. About

Causal-Relational Studies
An important difference between causal comparative and correlational research is that causal
comparative studies involve two or more groups and one independent variable, while correlational
studies involve two or more variables and one group. (Gay Airasian, 2000, 364).
Causal comparative educational research identifies a relationship between an independent variable
and a dependent variable. This relationship suggests that the researcher must prove more. When the
research has true control over the independent variable the research will be considered as true
research.
Causal comparative research involves comparing (thus the comparative aspect) two groups in
order to explain existing differences between them on some variable or variables of interest. The
only difference between causal comparative and experimental research is that the groups being
compared in causal comparative research have already been formed, and any treatment (if there
was a treatment) has already been applied. My research is causal comparative because it involves
comparing two groups homeschool children verse children who attend public school. In this type of
research my investigation attempt to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the fundamentals taught are not beneficial to their children. Among the parents that decide to

Congress Enacted The Equal Opportunity For Individuals...
In 1990, Congress enacted the Equal Opportunity for Individuals with Disabilities Act, more
commonly known as the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, to provide a clear and
comprehensive national mandate for the elimination of discrimination against individuals with
disabilities. This followed four years of work by the National Council on Disability, an independent
federal agency charged with advising the President, Congress, and other federal agencies on
disability policies, programs, procedures, and practices. In 1986, the National Council on Disability
recommended that the U.S. Congress enact a comprehensive equal opportunity law for individuals
with disabilities. In 1988, the National Council on Disability drafted the first version of the
Americans with Disabilities Act, which was introduced by Sen. Weicker and Rep. Coelho in the
100th Congress.
Prior to the ADA, only federal agencies and federally funded programs were legally required to
provide protection and accommodations for disabled individuals. The protection, provided by the
Architectural Barriers Act of 1968 and the Federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Rehabilitation Act),
required that all federal and federally assisted facilities and programs be made accessible. However,
the Rehabilitation Act alone did not provide sufficient protection to individuals with disabilities; the
ADA significantly expanded the protection accorded to disabled individuals under the
Rehabilitation Act by including

Justice Is A Key Element Of Justice
My idea of justice has evolved in nuanced ways in which I did not predict at the onset of this
course. I have held consistent the idea of creating a more equal world as a key element of justice.
However, I have added important nuances in the way in which I think about and discuss this issue.
I discussed equality in my initial definition of justice. This sense of equality has developed to
include non humananimals and even matter into this conversation. Through Bennett I have
embraced the idea of flattening out the current human on top hierarchy by elevating non human
animals and matter to a similar plane as humans. In my definition of justice currently, I include not
only obvious human issues but also issues of matter and animals. This being said, it is integral to
clarify that the major crises that are present in our world cannot be categorized as solei human ,
animal or matter issues. What effects one, effects all. No individual node can be separated from the
assemblage that not only influences, but comprises it.
While I still support my assertion that justice can be found through the respecting and valuing of
all things, my understanding of the nature of this respect has deepened. It is difficult to gain deep
respect for things that you do not have intimate knowledge of. At the onset of the course, I knew I
should respect matter, however, if it had not been for this course I would not have understood why
I should have a deep respect for the lives of the

IV. Global management: enforcing and reinforcing a transnational
Sticking to the French example, one can say that the management practices implemented by
Allianz try to go beyond the classical HQ subsidiaries tensions. This willingness (in words, if
not in deeds) to overcome such antagonisms is illustrated below:
Cross border group mobility:
strategy
The Allianz Worldwide Partners (AWP) project:
o Senior management: two current members of Allianz France s ExCo are
German but only one of them was sent by HQ (i.e., previously worked there).
Conversely, the head of Group Internal Audit is a Frenchman who did most of
its career in France since the AGF era.
o Middle management: the assignment to Group HQ of well educated
employees (typically from French Grandes Ecoles ) after 5 years at Allianz
France has become a normal practice. Assignees gain visibility and feel closer
to the Group s decisions.
o Rationale: the Group has set the development of B2B2C insurance (typically,
policies subscribed by companies for their employees) as a top priority. On the
medium term, all the Group s activities on this segment should become part of

Too much risk can result in critical failure of the business and too little risk can reduce
competitiveness. Risk is the effect of uncertainty on objectives which have both positive and
negative effects. According to the ISO/IEC Guide 73, risks are the combination of the probability
of an event and its consequences which have the potential for benefits (upside) if managed
effectively, or the threat of success (downside) as a result of poor assessment and management.
Risks are a central part of any organisation s strategic management; it is suggested that the greater
the risk involved, the higher the return. However, this can only be managed by effective
identification and treatment of all perceivable risks. Risk management is a process that is
supported by a set of principles and structures that are appropriate to the organisation and its
external environment and requires a balance between the level of the risk in relation to the size,
nature and complexity of the organisation.

We do not want another family to have to suffer as our family did. Other diseases like
Salmonella and Campylobacter can also be introduced. In addition to these food safety risks, the
use of hazardous machinery and sharp knives can injure workers when mistakes are made. This
danger is exacerbated by the increasingly rapid speeds at which workers are expected to slaughter

Legalizing Marijuana For Open Recreational Use
In 2014, Florida joined the growing ranks of states that have found themselves engaged in the
legislative and moral debates regarding whether the time has arrived to legalize the possession,
distribution, and use of marijuana for medicinal and/or recreational use. While hotly debated on
both sides, one of the more ironic factors regarding the issue of legalization is that it was found
to be perhaps the most logically and fairly debated topics of the state s recent mid term elections.
The facts of legalization are becoming more black and white and less about morality, which may
be a testament to why 24 U.S. states and the District of Columbia have enacted laws legalizing
medicinal marijuana. Of those states, Alaska, Oregon, Washington, and Colorado have also
legalized marijuana for recreational use. Although the idea of legalizing marijuana for open
recreational use may further incense opponents of its government sanctioning, it can also be
contended that doing so only gives state and federal entities a better ability to monitor how
marijuana is being distributed and removes a great deal of the temptation or necessity for users and
distributors to use subvert the process of medicinal dispensing to obtain cannabisfor recreational
consumption. This issue also creates a new angle on states rights, as each state is legally able to
enact its own policies and laws, yet the federal government can ultimately intervene and determine
any state s legislation to be illegal.

Role Of Export Led Growth On Shenzhen
Role of Export led Growth in Shenzhen
The unparalleled growth of economies in China over the past thirty decades have sparked a lot of
interests from economists, with many arguments and explanations attempting to account for the
actual dynamics that influenced such growths. Since the 1970s, the Chinese s economy has a
tendency is constantly increasing. The export led growth gradually exceeded the import, with an
annual growth of 17.2 percent in exports and 16.4 percent in import in 2010 (lse.ac.uk). In fact,

The World Is Too Much With Us Romanticism
Romantic authors from the 18th to 19th centuries saw nature as being sublime, a force too large
and beautiful to comprehend. As the movement placed emphasis on the individual s reaction to
and experience with both dreams and reality, man s relationship with nature was extremely
important to their works. The First Industrial Revolution, however, which also occurred in the

The speaker claims in this poem that getting and spending, (line 2) has caused mankind to lay waste
[its] powers (2), which is a condemnation of the materialistic focus people were beginning to
develop in the early 1800s. According to them, the obsession with acquisition of consumerist
products has caused humanity to relinquish its relationship with nature; consider a line further along
in the poem, in which they say We have given our hearts away (4). In this statement, they make it
clear that they view the rapport s disappearance as a loss, even referring to the material comforts
as only a sordid boon! (4), and therefore not worth what mankind has given up to obtain them. The
opening words of the poem are a reference to this idea: The world is too much with us (1) means
that the general population has become a burden on the Earth, unable to connect to or appreciate it
distracted as they are by consumerism, and the rest of the poem goes about proving that this is a

Difference from Corporate Lending:4
Introduction Project finance is a term used freely by a number of professionals including bankers,
journalists, and academics in order to describe a variety of financing activities. Project finance is a
decades old term that preexists corporate finance. However, the rolling growth in infrastructure
undertakings in the developing world funded by privately financed organizations is continuously
attracting greater attention. When considering financing for development, there are two main
issues that need to be taken into consideration. Firstly, the capability of financing must ensure
adequate public spending meets anticipated social and economic ventures. Secondly, the ability of
long term financing to provide economies that require and growth and development enough capital
to grow to their full potential. Government and intergovernmental organizations play major roles in
the provisions created in order to finance a development project. Between the years 2000 and 2010,
investments in local and external unindustrialized countries grew four times from roughly $1.6
trillion to $6.9 trillion. The International monetary fund predicts that this value will double again to
$13.8 trillion by 2019. Developing countries in Africa have seen similar trends, all be it on lower

International Marketing
Introduction In modern business it is extremely important for companies to have wide variety of
tools, which enable them to analyse their environment and their markets. Most commonly used
tools are PEST analysis, SWOT analysis and Porter s Five Forces. In this case the most appropriate
tool is PEST analysis which can be further extended to PESTEL. Other variations such as SLEPT,
PESTLE, STEEPLE and STEEPLED are also possible. SWOT analysis and Porter s Five Forces
require more specific information about the actual company and its market, but in this case this
information is not available. Brooks et al. (2004), say that PEST acronym stands for Political,

Political environment assessment prior to entering a new market is therefore outmost important.
Economical Economical factors include economic growth, government spending levels, inflation,
exchange rates, unemployment levels and national and individual income. Manufacturers would
prefer to have politically stable countries, with low inflation rates and steady growth of real
GDP. Inflation is analysed by Daniels and Radebaugh (1998) as an important aspect of economic
environment, because of its influence on interest rates, exchange rates and cost of living. Other
economic indicators have to be monitored and analysed as well. Gillespie (2007) warns about high
interest rates, which can deter investments as capital becomes more expensive. Strong currency can
hurt exports because it raises the price in terms of foreign currency. Positive national income
growth on the other hand will increase demand for п¬Ѓrms products. GDP per capita is the
indicator which will compare living standards in different countries. Manufacturer is selling value

Comparing The American Dream And Bennett s Poly
Behind any reality lies a dream. The American Dream is an ever evolving concept, that every
person has an equivalent chance at being successful and content. It has become a conflicting idea
with people disagreeing over the possibility of actually attaining it. There are those who take a
pessimistic outlook and refuse to believe that there s more to life than what they set out to
accomplish. They live in a negative dream like state where there own cynicism prevents them from
reaching and achieving their dream. Those who attain their dream are the go getters who wake up
from this illusion and take an optimistic view towards seeking their dream. We as a people
pursuing the dream, must change with it to achieve it. It still remains a reality today... Show more

In the poem America by Claude Mckay, the speaker s feelings towards America are discussed.
This quote shows how with perseverance The American Dream is possible and how when it is
finally reached its worth all the hardships that were faced. The speaker says, I love this cultured
hell that tests my youth: her vigor flows like tides into my blood. Giving me strength erect
against her hate. (14 ). The speaker in the poem focuses on the big picture. He knows that the
struggles that are being thrust upon him will be worthwhile once his dream is accomplished. It
will mean so much more since there was work that was put into achieving his dream. From the
same poem, America , by Claude Mckay the preceding quote explains how with hard work,
motivation and determination any of your most astounding dreams can become a reality. The
quote says, Yet as a rebel fronts a king in state i stand within her walls with not a shred of fear, or
malice, not a word of jeer. Darkly i gaze into the days ahead, and see her might and granite
wonders there, Beneath the touch of Time s unerring hand, like priceless treasures sinking in the
sand. (14). The speakers perceives that he must overcome all adversities to achieve the grandeur
that is his dream. Although through all the obstacles that lie ahead, his dream may appear to be a
hazy mirage. He knows that once his dream is achieved

Angel Gabriel Looks At Mariana And Not Mary
What is more interesting is that Angel Gabriel looks at Mariana and not Mary in the painting
which suggests a hope, she wants her love to be consummated, a Gabriel to come to her and inform
her but it intensifies the pathos even further. Mary which in Hebrew means uncertainty, as she was
uncertain whether she would be able to conceive until Gabriel arrived but Mary (uncertainty) + Ann
(graceful) leads us to Mariana who is gracefully expecting even though she is uncertain about her
destiny. The heraldry depicts snowdrop which represents consolation, according to floral
symbolism. However, it is the flower associated with the ritual of St. Agnes Eve, when adolescent
girls hope for visionary glimpses of prospective husbands. These meta representations projects the
mental state of the subject sometimes through contrast and ironyas well. We see an altar, a private
devotional space so we have a sense of her life being taken up between prayer and meditation
which in turn accentuates the theme of longing. The metallic objects add to the visual irony as a
church like atmosphere of marriage is being created in Mariana s room which is never possible.
Mariana still wears a waistband which can symbolise her hopes of conjugal bliss which is clearly
visible against the deep hue of her dress. The presence of the only animal in the painting, that is the
mouse, who seems to be her ironic companion and in terms of materiality it is equated with
Mariana s secluded existence. The

The Olympic Games Of The Olympics
The Summer Olympic Games is the leading international sporting event in which thousands of
athletes from around the world participate in a variety of competitions. According to existing
historical manuscripts, the first ancient Olympic Games were celebrated in 776 BC in Olympia.
They were dedicated to the Greek god Zeus and took place in the same place every four years.
This four year period became known as an Olympiad (International Olympic Committee, 2012). The
first modern games were held in Athens, Greece in 1896 with nine sports contested. The 2016
games will consist of 28 sports. Although the actual event may last for only a few weeks, the
preparations commence up to a decade beforehand and may entail considerable investment
expenditures that can have longer term economic significance.
In 2016, the Olympics will be held in Rio De Janeiro. When choosing the next country to host the
Olympics, Rio had one of the biggest advantages. The Olympic Games had never been held in
South America. Additionally, the International Olympic Committee understood what the power of
transformation of these games would mean to Rio, Brazil and South America. To the Olympic and
Paralympic Movements, this decision represented the opening of a new and promising frontier, and
the possibility of inspiring 65 million youths under 18 years of age in Brazil and 180 in the whole
continent.

As such, our company s people resources pose the greatest risk for security breach. Our way to
help mitigate risk in this area is to keep communication lines open in this area and to continually
mandate security knowledge training, with mandatory updates on a regular basis. When the
employees are informed of company policy when facing a security matter, they are better equipped
to act in the best or right way. In this way knowledge is power or at least empowerment to act in
the best interest of the company s information security.

Why Respect Is Important
What Is Respect And Why Is It Importantn?
Respect takes place everywhere we go, the movie theater, school, home, and even restaurants.
Respect is an important aspect of our everyday lives. The definition of respect is having a manner
of admiration, and or politeness towards the person that you have respect for. Respect is something
that holds our entire society together and is visible in many unique ways. Respect holds our
society together because no one could go anywhere or do anything because of all of the chaos
spreading across their town or city. Therefore, there would be vandalism, no laws, and no filter on
what anyone could do. Our nation would fall apart without respect.
If you go into detail about respect our country is actually, one could ... Show more content on

For example, in school where more fortunate kids have expensive clothes etc, may not respect
and think they are better than a student that doesn t have all of those nice things that the other
student has. I have witnessed this myself, where one very popular/very wealthy student looks
down upon and doesn t respect another student with not all of the latest trendy clothes that
everyone else has. The very same situation can also happen outside of school very well as inside.
For instance, say an average minimum wage citizen passes a less wealthy man. He might see
him and try to avoid him maybe because he looks down on him and believes he is higher ranking
in society. Again, I have also witnessed this countless times. Unfortunately, this happens quite a
bit everywhere, may it be school, public, work, etc. This can really affect people s social life and
or self esteem. My opinion on this matter is that every public area should reinforce the idea of
respect, and they should also do what they can to provide for less fortunate people and try to put
more effort into stopping the respect and bullying

boy named John Smith who is an alien on the run from enemies hunting him and the eight others
like him. Always changing his identity and moving to different towns with his guardian, Henri.
But in the small town of Ohio John finds love and makes new friends. He figures out he is more
powerful than he knows. The movie is much different than the book. I was really shocked at how
much they changed things in the movie. I think I liked the movie better than the book just simply
because it was pretty straight forward I didn t feel very much suspense and I like that. Despite all
the differences in the book there were a few similarities. The names of all the characters stayed the
same. The thing I am glad they didn t change was the love between John and Sarah. I feel like that

school Sarah was taking pictures of John, In the movie she does not take pictures. Sam Goode
wears his father s glasses in the book but in the movie he does not. I think one of the differences
I really hoped wouldn t of been there was the fact that Sam wasn t wearing his nasa shirt in the

The Heart Of The Sea
In the Heart of the Sea is set in the early 1800 s, and tells the incredible and terrifying story of the
whaling crew from the Essex. What begins as a routine whaling trip soon takes a turn for the
worst when tragedy strikes the Essex and its crew. While the story may seem innocent at first, the
disturbingly barbaric nature of a human spirit desperate for survival is nothing short of
unthinkable. Nathaniel Philbrick does a phenomenal job of painting a picture in the reader s mind
so vivid that he/she can almost imagine themselves as a part of the crew.
Nathaniel Philbrick is a leading authority on the history of Nantucket. He is also the director of the
Egan Institute of Maritime Studies and a research fellow at the Nantucket Historical Association
(back cover). He has authored multiple books, although, In the Heart of the Sea is likely his most
famous. He currently lives in Nantucket, Massachusetts, so his knowledge of its history is quite
extensive.
In the Heart of the Sea begins by talking about the whaling history of Nantucket. The terms whaling
history and Nantucket history are virtually interchangeable. As Philbrick so eloquently puts it, The
island was a barren sandbank, fertilized with whale oil only (Pg. 8). The people of Nantucket had
created an economic system that relied almost entirely upon the whaling industry, without it, they
couldn t survive.
Though countless whaling ships left Nantucket, the focal point of the book is the crew on a ship

Critically Discuss the Importance of Work-Life Balance in...
Critically discuss the importance of work life balance in the effective management of people at
work in contemporary organisations. Contemporary organisations are becoming more aware of the
increasing importance of work life balance as a result of increasing workforce diversity. Work Life
Balance refers to the striking balance between work and non work schedules (Harish, 2013, p. 62),
which has a significant impact on an organisations managementprocess in regards to the planning,

This refers to refers to when employment relationships are based on mutual cooperation and a
harmony of interest between employers and employees (Balnave, 2012, p.95). An example of
this is demonstrated as store manager makes time available to mutually help an employee whose
husband has suffered a heart attack and requests leave they are not entitled for. However due to
that employees loyalty and reliability the store manager covers the employees shift (Smith
2012). The store manager effectively managed people at work, balancing the employees work
/life responsibilities but significantly imbalances their own, thus creating workplace pressures
and long hours culture (Smith, 2012, p.679). In this case there was a system in place for the
employee where the manager took responsibility and covered the shift; however there was no
system in place for the manager. The impact this has on the manager has only arisen due to the
absence of a planned course of action for sick leave, only mutual cooperation. This highlights the
importance of work life balance but more the need for correct systems should the need to balance
work and life occurs. When it comes to managing people effectively the process of controlling is
not always completely in the hands of the manager. Trade unions are an organisation of employees
whose focus is the protection and negotiation

The Life and Works of Michelangelo
La vita di Michelangelo
Michelangelo, one of the greatest artist of all time, he is a man whose the word virtuoso is
imprinted in his name itself. Michelangelo began his artistic career being apprenticed to a great
master of the arts. His master, who taught him the art techniques, was Domenico Girlandaio. After
watching the talented young apprentice, Girlandaio sent him to the city of Florence, to learn from
Lorenzo de Medici. School of Lorenzo de Medici, Michelangelo remained for two years (1490

time, since the city was a major center of cultural production.
In his early life, Michelangelo was born in a family of bankers, unfortunately not successful

Michelangelo s birth, they moves to Florence where he was raised in most of his childhood.
Unfortunately, their streak of bad luck continues since his mother became ill and weak to a point

Essay Psychological Research Report on Perception
ABSTRACT
People are thought to be able to mentally rotate an object so as to be able to imagine it in a
different orientation. In this experiment partcipants were presented with two three dimensional
objects. Some of the pairs of objects where the same object and some of them where different
objects. Partcipants were asked to identify whether the second object was the same as the first one
in the pair, even though it was shown as being rotated around a set angle, or if it was a completely
different object. The reaction time of the partcipant s was found to be directly related to the degree
of the angle of which the object was rotated.
METHODS

The object was rotated to one of 8 possible degrees in increments of 45 degrees from 0 to 360.
The structure of the experiment was that the participant goes to the website and chooses the
experiment. Then the participant is asked to give informed consent and the experiment begins. The
participant is presented with a pair of shapes and asked to decide whether the shapes are of the
same or different images (whether one can be turned into the other by a rotation). The participant
clicks a button to specify whether the images are the same or different.
RESULTS
The results of this experiment are the mean reaction times that it took the participant to decide
whether the example they where presented with was the same or different object. The means of
both of the sets of data clearly shows that as the angle of the rotation of the object increases the
reaction time of the participant increases. When these means are plotted on a graph they clearly
show a linear increase in reaction time as the angle of rotation increases. This continues until the
object has been rotated 180 degrees. The reaction time decreases linearly as the object is rotated
more and more. Overall the reaction time for the pairs that are of different objects (where one
cannot be made into the other through a rotation are higher) however they follow the same pattern
as the pairs that are of the same objects.

Last month Jon saw a commercial on T.V. about the harmful effects smoking has on the body. The
commercial showed how smoking can lead from things as minor as bad breath and yellow teeth to
something as severe as lung cancer. Jon, a frequent smoker, decided he would put down his

Methods For Creating A Program
As the focus and scope of the project evolved, so did the methods used to find a solution to the
scheduling problem. The approach to creating a program had several stages, including a method
to define several distinct weeklong schedules to combine, a method taking into account non
standardized class schedules, and a method combining consistent schedules with additional
constraints. These approaches were each based on the current understanding of the scope and
requirements of the project. In the first stage of the project, the focus was on creating several
week long schedule blocks, composed of mixed shift lengths, that could be combined together
over the entire year to achieve a schedule complying with the ACGME. These schedule blocks
would be grouped by their intended use, such as which day a clinic session was on, day shifts or
night shifts, specific educational blocks like the GPC, and split between first and second/third
year residents. This schedule would be implemented on top of previously assigned educational
units and clinic sessions, and optimized for the correct number of residents during each hour of the
day. Figure 3A demonstrates the schedule blocks, showing the hours assigned by each block over
the course of a Wednesday. This method also included an implementation of the previously defined
linear program, allowing scheduling blocks to be efficiently created for each of the situations
required by the method. As more information was gathered, it became clear

Starfish Dissection
Starfish and crayfish are both invertebrates, but they have many differences. Last week, our class
did a dissection on each and learned more about them. This research paper will explain some
differences between the two that were learned during dissections and by doing outside research.
Starfish and crayfish body plans differ greatly. A crayfish has bilateral symmetry where the
starfish has radial symmetry. The type of symmetry an organism has is suited to its lifestyle.
Since the starfish has radial symmetry, it is not well equipped to move around, but it is
equipped to interact with all sides of its environment.. Animals with radial symmetry are usually
sedentary or move around slowly by floating. In contrast to radial symmetry, which is best suited
for stationary or limited motion lifestyles, bilateral symmetry allows for streamlined and
directional motion (Animal Characterization). The crayfish has more specialized body parts than
the starfish because it is equipped to move around and hunt down prey unlike the starfish. From
the dissection, It can be concluded that the crayfish is more advanced because of its body
systems and its ability to move around its environment more effectively. Many animals, like the
starfish do fine just staying in one place, but more complex organisms, like crayfish need to
move. One of the main reasons animals move is because they need to eat and food is not always
in the same place. How an animal moves depends on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis of Differnt Forms of Liberty
The concept of liberty is important to this very day. Liberty initially means to be fundamentally
free within ones society from any types of oppression, either from higher authority or from having
different form ideologies that can be political or social. Liberty is a form of power that lets one
act on their sets and values. In this paper, concept of libertywill be discussed on behalf of two
philosophers, John Lockeand Jean Jacques Rousseau. Although liberty provides one to act as they
please, there can be different forms of liberty, which are developed naturally by the state of nature

One may destroy an individual if he takes away ones liberty where he makes him into a slave.
This compels the individual to hurt or kill that person because that individual is taking the
individual preservation, where they do not want to be controlled by any one and have their own
way of life. For one not to kill another individual that individual also has to demonstrate that he
is not enforcing power over him. For example, Locke claims, But when the actual force is over,
the state of war ceases between those that are in the society, and are equally subjected to fair
determination of the law. (Locke, 1690, p. 15). For this reason, in a civil society if the force to
kill by both parties is over and one has conducted a crime, they can be prosecuted for the crime
they have done, and prevent future occurrence of this type of event to happen again. Thus, state of
war generally means state of conflict, where if one is threaten by any way they have the right to
protect themselves by any means necessary even killing. If the conflict has stopped between either
conflicting individuals or groups they have the right to have a trail to prosecute that individual or
group that was threatening their liberty and preventing this type of conflict to take place again.
There are two different forms of liberty one is the natural liberty that is provided by nature to be
free from any type of power or authority. The second liberty is in a civil

female labour and disability labour. Moreover, it violates one formulation of Immanuel Kant s
categorical imperatives that equals should be treated equally . Equal Employment Opportunity
Commission (EEOC) and Age Discrimination in Employment Act had form to prevent any
discrimination act. Thus, this is unethical and unlawful if a corporate is practicing discrimination
behavior in corporate culture due to its inappropriate practices, conduct, values, norms and violation
of human right and interest.
Next, child labour is widespread in developing countries. According to International Labour

Price dispersion, competition, and the role of online travel agents: Evidence from business routes in the Italian airline market In this study they use research to further understand what s driving price dispersion? They investigate very distinct factors between online travel agents and airlines direct channels influence price dispersion. Airline markets are characterized by the existence of substantial price dispersion, to be intended as a measure of price variations in the market. Indeed, it is not unusual to see travelers on the same flight paying very different prices for the very same seats. This is due to the fact that airlines are able to distinguish among different types of customers and practice price discrimination, with the help of mechanisms such as advance selling, loyalty programs, nonrefundable tickets, etc. In addition, airline companies typically face uncertain demand with a fixed inventory consisting of very perishable products. Accordingly, they utilize revenue management systems to maximize revenues by dynamically adjusting prices for their seats based on whether the current booking is above or below expected values. The study of price dispersion in the airline industry can provide numerous important implications for firms, consumers and authorities in terms of firms pricing power, price discrimination, product differentiation, and reduction of search costs. Psychological positivism is a theory, which suggest that there is criminal personality that resides in the minds of the criminals. The theory was designed by Austrian neurologist called Sigmund Freud. He believed that some people committed crime due to certain internal factors that one had little or no control over. • 5. The Use Of Film Techniques In Sleepy Hollow Sleepy Hollow is a gothic horror film directed by Tim Burton in 1999. It tells the story of when Ichabod Crane is sent to the isolated town of Sleepy Hollow to solve the mystery of the Headless Horseman. The isolated gloomy setting for example, when Ichabod Crane enters the town, the film techniques such as music and lighting such as when the Headless Horsemanappears combined with characters that have supernatural powers including Catrina and Lady Van Tassel reinforces the idea that Sleepy Hollowis a gothic horror film. The town of Sleepy Hollow is isolated, dark and gloomy, it also has contains mostly gothic architecture. This is to support the spine chilling atmosphere that Tim Burton has intended in the film. This is to create a theme of fear and panic towards the viewer because the idea of gothic horror is to create a suspenseful, isolated and dark environment in the movie. Salem had become a town where neighbors and enemies would blame each other of witchcraft, without actual evidence to support their accusations. Most of the accusations led to the victim being guilty. If the Puritans thought you were guilty, you had to either confess or be hanged. The Puritans believed that if you confessed, God would forgive you, which suggests the way of life for the Puritans. The Puritans were big believers of God and the bible. They believed that no one should commit sins, but if you confessed God would forgive you. The great belief in the bible insinuated the start of witchcraft and superstitions, because the bible expresses how one should not live with a witch. In my opinion, organizations that are corrupted by scandal experience the stigma effects of shame a similar way people do. The Stigmatized organizations might be ridiculed in the media, have their charitable gifts rejected, and experience a mass migration of ability. • 9. Causal-Relational Studies An important difference between causal comparative and correlational research is that causal comparative studies involve two or more groups and one independent variable, while correlational studies involve two or more variables and one group. (Gay Airasian, 2000, 364). Causal comparative educational research identifies a relationship between an independent variable and a dependent variable. This relationship suggests that the researcher must prove more. When the research has true control over the independent variable the research will be considered as true research. Causal comparative research involves comparing (thus the comparative aspect) two groups in order to explain existing differences between them on some variable or variables of interest. The only difference between causal comparative and experimental research is that the groups being compared in causal comparative research have already been formed, and any treatment (if there was a treatment) has already been applied. In 1990, Congress enacted the Equal Opportunity for Individuals with Disabilities Act, more commonly known as the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, to provide a clear and comprehensive national mandate for the elimination of discrimination against individuals with disabilities. This followed four years of work by the National Council on Disability, an independent federal agency charged with advising the President, Congress, and other federal agencies on disability policies, programs, procedures, and practices. In 1986, the National Council on Disability recommended that the U.S. Congress enact a comprehensive equal opportunity law for individuals with disabilities. In 1988, the National Council on Disability drafted the first version of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which was introduced by Sen. Weicker and Rep. Coelho in the 100th Congress. Prior to the ADA, only federal agencies and federally funded programs were legally required to provide protection and accommodations for disabled individuals. The protection, provided by the Architectural Barriers Act of 1968 and the Federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Rehabilitation Act), required that all federal and federally assisted facilities and programs be made accessible. I have held consistent the idea of creating a more equal world as a key element of justice. However, I have added important nuances in the way in which I think about and discuss this issue. I discussed equality in my initial definition of justice. This sense of equality has developed to include non humananimals and even matter into this conversation. Through Bennett I have embraced the idea of flattening out the current human on top hierarchy by elevating non human animals and matter to a similar plane as humans. In my definition of justice currently, I include not only obvious human issues but also issues of matter and animals. This being said, it is integral to clarify that the major crises that are present in our world cannot be categorized as solei human , animal or matter issues. What effects one, effects all. No individual node can be separated from the assemblage that not only influences, but comprises it. While I still support my assertion that justice can be found through the respecting and valuing of all things, my understanding of the nature of this respect has deepened. It is difficult to gain deep respect for things that you do not have intimate knowledge of. At the onset of the course, I knew I should respect matter, however, if it had not been for this course I would not have understood why I should have a deep respect for the lives of the ... While hotly debated on both sides, one of the more ironic factors regarding the issue of legalization is that it was found to be perhaps the most logically and fairly debated topics of the state s recent mid term elections. The facts of legalization are becoming more black and white and less about morality, which may be a testament to why 24 U.S. states and the District of Columbia have enacted laws legalizing medicinal marijuana. Of those states, Alaska, Oregon, Washington, and Colorado have also legalized marijuana for recreational use. Although the idea of legalizing marijuana for open recreational use may further incense opponents of its government sanctioning, it can also be contended that doing so only gives state and federal entities a better ability to monitor how marijuana is being distributed and removes a great deal of the temptation or necessity for users and distributors to use subvert the process of medicinal dispensing to obtain cannabisfor recreational consumption. • 33. Why Respect Is Important What Is Respect And Why Is It Importantn? Respect takes place everywhere we go, the movie theater, school, home, and even restaurants. Respect is an important aspect of our everyday lives. The definition of respect is having a manner of admiration, and or politeness towards the person that you have respect for. Respect is something that holds our entire society together and is visible in many unique ways. Respect holds our society together because no one could go anywhere or do anything because of all of the chaos spreading across their town or city. Therefore, there would be vandalism, no laws, and no filter on what anyone could do. Our nation would fall apart without respect. I have witnessed this myself, where one very popular/very wealthy student looks down upon and doesn t respect another student with not all of the latest trendy clothes that everyone else has. The very same situation can also happen outside of school very well as inside. For instance, say an average minimum wage citizen passes a less wealthy man. He might see him and try to avoid him maybe because he looks down on him and believes he is higher ranking in society. Again, I have also witnessed this countless times. Unfortunately, this happens quite a bit everywhere, may it be school, public, work, etc. This can really affect people s social life and or self esteem. My opinion on this matter is that every public area should reinforce the idea of respect, and they should also do what they can to provide for less fortunate people and try to put more effort into stopping the respect and bullying ... It is a book about a boy named John Smith who is an alien on the run from enemies hunting him and the eight others like him. Always changing his identity and moving to different towns with his guardian, Henri. But in the small town of Ohio John finds love and makes new friends. He figures out he is more powerful than he knows. The movie is much different than the book. I was really shocked at how much they changed things in the movie. I think I liked the movie better than the book just simply because it was pretty straight forward I didn t feel very much suspense and I like that. What begins as a routine whaling trip soon takes a turn for the worst when tragedy strikes the Essex and its crew. While the story may seem innocent at first, the disturbingly barbaric nature of a human spirit desperate for survival is nothing short of unthinkable. Nathaniel Philbrick does a phenomenal job of painting a picture in the reader s mind so vivid that he/she can almost imagine themselves as a part of the crew. Nathaniel Philbrick is a leading authority on the history of Nantucket. He is also the director of the Egan Institute of Maritime Studies and a research fellow at the Nantucket Historical Association (back cover). He has authored multiple books, although, In the Heart of the Sea is likely his most famous. He currently lives in Nantucket, Massachusetts, so his knowledge of its history is quite extensive. In the Heart of the Sea begins by talking about the whaling history of Nantucket. The terms whaling history and Nantucket history are virtually interchangeable. As Philbrick so eloquently puts it, The island was a barren sandbank, fertilized with whale oil only (Pg. 8). The people of Nantucket had created an economic system that relied almost entirely upon the whaling industry, without it, they couldn t survive. Though countless whaling ships left Nantucket, the focal point of the book is the crew on a ship called ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Critically discuss the importance of work life balance in the effective management of people at work in contemporary organisations. Contemporary organisations are becoming more aware of the increasing importance of work life balance as a result of increasing workforce diversity. Work Life Balance refers to the striking balance between work and non work schedules (Harish, 2013, p. 62), which has a significant impact on an organisations managementprocess in regards to the planning, organizing, leading and controlling of human and other resources to achieve organizational goals effectively and efficiently (Balnave, 2012, p. 81). This refers to refers to when employment relationships are based on mutual cooperation and a harmony of interest between employers and employees (Balnave, 2012, p.95). An example of this is demonstrated as store manager makes time available to mutually help an employee whose husband has suffered a heart attack and requests leave they are not entitled for. However due to that employees loyalty and reliability the store manager covers the employees shift (Smith 2012). The store manager effectively managed people at work, balancing the employees work /life responsibilities but significantly imbalances their own, thus creating workplace pressures and long hours culture (Smith, 2012, p.679). In this case there was a system in place for the employee where the manager took responsibility and covered the shift; however there was no system in place for the manager. The impact this has on the manager has only arisen due to the absence of a planned course of action for sick leave, only mutual cooperation. This highlights the importance of work life balance but more the need for correct systems should the need to balance work and life occurs. When it comes to managing people effectively the process of controlling is not always completely in the hands of the manager. In this experiment partcipants were presented with two three dimensional objects. Some of the pairs of objects where the same object and some of them where different objects. Partcipants were asked to identify whether the second object was the same as the first one in the pair, even though it was shown as being rotated around a set angle, or if it was a completely different object. The reaction time of the partcipant s was found to be directly related to the degree of the angle of which the object was rotated. Then the participant is asked to give informed consent and the experiment begins. The participant is presented with a pair of shapes and asked to decide whether the shapes are of the same or different images (whether one can be turned into the other by a rotation). The participant clicks a button to specify whether the images are the same or different. RESULTS The results of this experiment are the mean reaction times that it took the participant to decide whether the example they where presented with was the same or different object. The means of both of the sets of data clearly shows that as the angle of the rotation of the object increases the reaction time of the participant increases. When these means are plotted on a graph they clearly show a linear increase in reaction time as the angle of rotation increases. This continues until the object has been rotated 180 degrees. The reaction time decreases linearly as the object is rotated more and more. Overall the reaction time for the pairs that are of different objects (where one cannot be made into the other through a rotation are higher) however they follow the same pattern as the pairs that are of the same objects. • 42. Methods For Creating A Program As the focus and scope of the project evolved, so did the methods used to find a solution to the scheduling problem. The approach to creating a program had several stages, including a method to define several distinct weeklong schedules to combine, a method taking into account non standardized class schedules, and a method combining consistent schedules with additional constraints. These approaches were each based on the current understanding of the scope and requirements of the project. In the first stage of the project, the focus was on creating several week long schedule blocks, composed of mixed shift lengths, that could be combined together over the entire year to achieve a schedule complying with the ACGME. These schedule blocks would be grouped by their intended use, such as which day a clinic session was on, day shifts or night shifts, specific educational blocks like the GPC, and split between first and second/third year residents. This schedule would be implemented on top of previously assigned educational units and clinic sessions, and optimized for the correct number of residents during each hour of the day. Figure 3A demonstrates the schedule blocks, showing the hours assigned by each block over the course of a Wednesday. This method also included an implementation of the previously defined linear program, allowing scheduling blocks to be efficiently created for each of the situations required by the method. • 43. Starfish Dissection Starfish and crayfish are both invertebrates, but they have many differences. Last week, our class did a dissection on each and learned more about them. This research paper will explain some differences between the two that were learned during dissections and by doing outside research. Starfish and crayfish body plans differ greatly. A crayfish has bilateral symmetry where the starfish has radial symmetry. The type of symmetry an organism has is suited to its lifestyle. Since the starfish has radial symmetry, it is not well equipped to move around, but it is equipped to interact with all sides of its environment.. Animals with radial symmetry are usually sedentary or move around slowly by floating. In contrast to radial symmetry, which is best suited for stationary or limited motion lifestyles, bilateral symmetry allows for streamlined and directional motion (Animal Characterization). The crayfish has more specialized body parts than the starfish because it is equipped to move around and hunt down prey unlike the starfish. From the dissection, It can be concluded that the crayfish is more advanced because of its body systems and its ability to move around its environment more effectively. Many animals, like the starfish do fine just staying in one place, but more complex organisms, like crayfish need to move. One of the main reasons animals move is because they need to eat and food is not always in the same place. How an animal moves depends on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Liberty initially means to be fundamentally free within ones society from any types of oppression, either from higher authority or from having different form ideologies that can be political or social. Liberty is a form of power that lets one act on their sets and values. In this paper, concept of libertywill be discussed on behalf of two philosophers, John Lockeand Jean Jacques Rousseau. Although liberty provides one to act as they please, there can be different forms of liberty, which are developed naturally by the state of nature and socially through development of human reasoning; state of nature is based on absolute freedom, while socially liberty is restricted. This compels the individual to hurt or kill that person because that individual is taking the individual preservation, where they do not want to be controlled by any one and have their own way of life. For one not to kill another individual that individual also has to demonstrate that he is not enforcing power over him. For example, Locke claims, But when the actual force is over, the state of war ceases between those that are in the society, and are equally subjected to fair determination of the law. (Locke, 1690, p. 15). For this reason, in a civil society if the force to kill by both parties is over and one has conducted a crime, they can be prosecuted for the crime they have done, and prevent future occurrence of this type of event to happen again. Thus, state of war generally means state of conflict, where if one is threaten by any way they have the right to protect themselves by any means necessary even killing. If the conflict has stopped between either conflicting individuals or groups they have the right to have a trail to prosecute that individual or group that was threatening their liberty and preventing this type of conflict to take place again.
