The Cove, By Mark Monroe And Directed By Louis Psihoyos
Dogs are regarded as man s best friend, but in the sea, that title is claimed by dolphins. Humans
have long regarded dolphins as magical and friendly creatures. With their penchant for saving
humans from dire situations like shark encounters or drowning, and their friendly playfulness,
dolphins have certainly earned their reputation. The Cove is an award winning film written by
Mark Monroe and directed by Louis Psihoyos in which an investigation id made of the annual
carnage in Japan where hundreds of dolphins are dispatched in masses. Although it has been shown
that dolphins are sentient creatures, the Japanese government utilizes dubious ethic methods for
still participating in the destruction of dolphin populations.
Japan is renowned around the world for being an extremely prosperous nation despite being the only
populace to have been bombed by nuclear weapons. From that point on, the Japanese has
reinvigorated a more modern culture. But for the outcry of respect for traditional Japanese culture,
the coast local fishermen claim that their justification for hunting dolphins is that You eat cows.
Well, we eat dolphins (The Cove). The workers inform protestors that it is part of their culture to
partake in the production and consumption of dolphin meat. The fishermen clarify that dolphins in
Japan are like cows in the U.S. Just as the U.S. businesses cultivate farm animal agriculture as a
food source, the Japanese do so too. Therefore, the Japanese fishermen are

The International Criminal Court As An Advocate For Peace
The International Criminal Court as Both Mediator and Arbiter in Conflicts
Paul Daniel Thornton
Dr. Lealle Ruhl
POLI 1145 Peace and Conflict Studies
Wednesday, November 16, 2016
INTRODUCTIONIn the pursuit of positive peace for the global community, certain mechanisms
are necessary in order to better protect human rights and resolve interstate conflicts. Prior to the
events of World War II, a cogent set of laws defining those human rights, much less violations
therein were never heard at an international scale. The International Criminal Court has the role as
both appellate for justice and voice for peace in the international community but has not yet resolve
the contradictory ends of both roles. That contradictory end is that many countries proclaim the
necessity of the International Criminal Court as an advocate for conflict resolution and peace
advocacy while being resist or outright antagonistic towards the court when their own state has
committed those same crimes. To the ends of defending basic universal rights, the International
Criminal Court (hereafter ICC) serves that capacity when state level systems cannot or will not act
accordingly. Initially, this was seen following World War II with the Nuremberg trials in response
to the atrocities committed by Nazi Germany. However in more contemporary history, the ICC was
formed to in response to the events in the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda. These tribunals were
unprecedented, not only in their global

Acid Fracturing Treatment in an Iranian Carbonated Reservoir
Acid fracturing is a sensitive stimulation technique that has been widely used by the oil industry
but is limited to so many considerations. An acid fracturing treatment must produce a conductive
flow channel long enough to alter the flow pattern in the reservoir from a radial pattern to one
that approaches linear flow. This needs high rate of acid flow completed with formation
solution in acid. Considering the above restrictions imposed by acid fracturing, its applicability
is limited to special cases where no better solution is available especially in Iranian oil fields. In
this paper, one of these special cases is studied occurred in a carbonate reservoir in Iran. This was
the first successful acid fracturing operation in an Iranian reservoir which makes the condition so
delicate and unique as there was so many uncertainties and lack of experience. As we know,
hydraulic fracturing has been used worldwide in damaged formations and formations with low
conductivity but performing acid fracturing has been limited to so many operational and reservoir
restriction. The main difference between acid fracturing and proppant fracturing is the way fracture
conductivity is created. In proppant fracturing, a propping agent is used to prop open the fracture
after the treatment is completed. In acid fracturing, acid is used to etch channels in the rock that
comprise the walls of the fracture. Thus, the rock has to be partially soluble in acid so that
channels can be etched in the

Plenty Of Wild West Analysis
The second main weakness that is found in Global Americans is that it does not elaborate on how
the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show wrongfully portrayed Native Americans as dangerous or the
impact it had on the viewers. Global Americans makes a brief mention that Cody portrayed Indians
as victorious, but does not explain in what sense; primary sources, on the other side, illustrate that in
the show Indians were portrayed as savages that needed to be civilized. Although the roles that
Natives played were dramatized, they were concurrent with the perception American society and the
government perpetuated. This is illustrated by the article Plenty of Wild West Enthusiasm, from the
Washington Post, that describes how Indians ambushed a carriage

Green Bay Essay
I think that I would be a good fit for UW Green Bay because of what Green Bay has to offer. I got
the opportunity to visit Green Bay on two occasions, once with my cousin Michaela Haas, who
has graduated from Green Bay, and once during your Music and Art Open House on March 2
earlier this year. After visiting Green Bay, I knew that I would fit in because of how open of a
campus it is. I have witnessed the overwhelmingly expansive music program which Green Bay
has to offer and I feel as if this is a place where I can succeed and achieve my musical potential.
There are many reasons that I have been looking at applying at Green Bay. One such reason is that

me. Green Bay has so many separate building that serve their own individual purpose from the
library, to the recreational center, and the auditoriums, into the ever famous tunnels beneath the
campus. Not only do you have subject specific building but you have this network or tunnels to
better aid the students in their commute to their classes in the frigged weather of the Wisconsin
winter. This is not only a luxury but a real deal maker for me because it ensure that I ll be able to
get to my classes on time, ready to learn instead of barging in late and unprepared. These are just
some of the reason I feel like UW Green Bay would be a perfect fit for me on my journey to

The Key Objective Of A Great Facilitator
The main objective of a great facilitator is to development a team that is cohesive and cooperative,
producing results that make the group the most effective and efficient unit possible. However, this
is not always the case. Building a team that flourishes in any situation can be a daunting endeavor.
Many individuals unknowingly lack the skills necessary to be a great facilitator. Roger Schwarz
(2002), has created nine ground rules for honing a more effective group. When these nine ground
rules are applied and executed by a team, any facilitator will be able to produce a more effective
and efficient group. Furthermore, by becoming familiar with the ground rules, you can watch a
group and identify specifically what is happening that is enhancing or hindering the group s
process (Schwarz, 2002 p. 96). Schwarz s (2002), nine ground rules are as followed respectively,
test assumptions and inferences, share all relevant information, use specific examples and agree on
what important words mean, explain your reasoningand intent, focus on interests, not positions,
combine advocacy and inquiry, jointly design next steps and ways to test disagreements, discuss
undiscussable issues, and us a decision making rule that generates the level of commitment needed
(p. 97).

Patient Centered Care Has A Triple Aim
In a day and age where everything is becoming mobile and consumer driven, healthcare is no
exception. Patients are now able to drive healthcare industry spending and have access to more
health services. A growing body of evidence suggests that the patient centered medical home is an
effective model to transform primary care and serve as a foundation for accountable care
organizations, working together in integrated communities of care (Harbrechet Latts, 2015). Patient
centered care could change the outdated medical models by focusing on patient doctor
relationships and what the patient deems important in their healthcare (Kahn, 2014). Patient
centered care has a triple aim: to improve individuals health; achieve improved population health;
and reduce cost trends. A complementary goal was to improve satisfaction for patients and health
care teams (Harbrechet Latts, 2015). Early studies suggest that this type of care will also improve
efficiency and lend us closer to the frontier of health production. The Patient Centered Health
model is the fastest growing healthcare delivery system innovation (O Kane, Barr, Scholle, 2014).
This is largely due to the Affordable Care Act and its impact on health coverage (Fifield, Forrest,
Burleson, Martin Peele, Gillespie, 2013; Harbrechet Latts, 2015). This paper will focus on how
patient centered medicineimpacts efficiency in healthcare.
The Affordable Care Act gives patients more choices in their health coverage options in

The United States grew at a dramatic rate between the years 1880 and 1900, within the cities. U.S.
cities grew by approximately 15 million people in the two decades before 1900. Many historians
claim that most of the population growth was due to the expansion of industry. It is also believed
that the majority of the populationexplosion was immigrants that were arriving from all over the

this period in the search of work. Between 1880 and 1890, it is suggested that almost 40 percent of

The Conflict Between India And Pakistan
The conflict in Kashmir appears to most as a bilateral territorial conflict between India and
Pakistan. The roots of the conflict are often traced back to August 1947, when the erstwhile British
India was partitioned into two new nation states India and Pakistan. The foundation of the Islamic
Republic of Pakistanwas the Two Nation theory propounded by Mohammed Ali Jinnah s, the
Leader of the All India Muslim League till August 1947, and then the first Governor General of
Pakistan. The demand for a separate independent state for Muslims living in British India was
founded on the apprehension that they shall be prejudiced against in the Hindu majority state of
India. As per the said Two Nation theory, all such states and provinces where the majority of the
population was Muslim were to become a part of Pakistan after the British withdrew from India, and
the new nation state of Pakistan was created. The independence and the accompanying partition of
Indiawere affected through the Indian Independence Act 1947 (hereinafter the Act ). As per the
provisions of the Act, the territories of the British India were to be divided into India and the new
State of Pakistan. The division of the territories was in accordance with religious demography of the
constituent states. At that time, there were 562 Princely States in the British India, which were
nominally sovereign monarchies under a local or regional ruler in a subsidiary alliance with the
British Crown. These Princely

The Pros And Cons Of Canadian Confederation
Confederation itself was an incredible display of Canadian compromise and tolerance. George
Brown (1867) congratulated Canada on confederation, impressed with the Canadian s ability to
compromise between two separate peoples, the French and English, who have vastly different
religions, cultures, laws, and languages, something European countries like Holland and Belgium,
Austria and Hungary, and Russia and Poland have been historically unable to accomplish
successfully. The Constitution specifically protects important French aspects including freedom of
religion, language guarantees in Quebec, and French civil law.
The Canadian Constitution ensures duality of French and English in language. The Constitution
(1867) states that both French and English have equality of status and equal rights and privileges as
to their use in all institutions of the Parliament and Government of Canada, (Section V). However,
the French language is a definite minority throughout most of Canada, with Quebec as an exception.

What Are The Effects Of The Scarlet Fever In Frankenstein
The scarlet fever devastated Europe in the 1800s and was illustrated through the novel
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. The scarlet fever raged throughout Europe and affected the lives
of many. The disease seemingly made sure that it affected the lives of the Frankenstein family.
In Mary Shelley s novel, Frankenstein, the death of Victor s loved ones reflects the impact of
the scarlet fever during the 1800s. The scarlet fever is a bacterial illness. The fever is a result of
strep throat; after a victim has strep throat it can then develop into scarlet fever. The illness lives
in the nose and throat of humans. Since it is found in these areas, it can be easily spread through
the air by a cough or sneeze. It can be spread from drinking or eating after someone who is
infected. It can also be spread if one comes in contact with somewhere that an infected person
coughed or sneezed, then touches their eyes, mouth, or nose. (Mayo Clinic)... Show more content on

Other symptoms of the scarlet fever are a red rash, red lines, flushed face and strawberry tongue.
The rash looks similar to sunburn and feels like sandpaper. The rash starts on the face, then

A P By John Updike Essay
The short story, A P, written by John Updike published in 1961 conveys the authors personal
ideas about how society is turning people into mindless animals. The A P is short for Great
Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company which is a US grocery store; the time setting of this story is
around 1980 s which is indicated in the story. The presentation given about the characterization
gives a strong sense of emotion to appeal of the economic difference. Marxism theory is portrayed

In the beginning of the story a queen is introduced. Even though the girl is just an ordinary girl
like the rest of her friends she is labeled as the queen. It was meant to emphasis on how she
controls the group and will of course have power over them. This is emphasizing how queens are
independent which grasps Sammy s attention automatically. Since a queen is identifies as rich,
beautiful, respected, and looked up to the attention is given to her.Social conflicts appear on
how rich people don t always work as hard as poor people, however they still have a better life.
This is shown with Sammy, he works hard at the store, while the manager sits on his chair all

When Lengel asks the girls to leave Sammy defends them in order to portray as a hero to them.

Kenya s Agriculture And Economics Of Kenya
Most people correlate Kenya to long distance runners, of the beginning of man, its plethora of
wildlife, and maybe Barack Obama. However, what they may have not contemplated was Kenya s
agriculture and how it has affected the culture and economics of Kenya. Tea, coffee, sisal,
pyrethrum, corn, and wheat are grown in the fertile highlands, one of the most successful
agricultural production regions in Africa. Production is mainly on small African owned farms
formed from the division of formerly European owned estates. Coffee in Kenyais big business, but
it is grown mainly on small farms by farmer s co ops working together. Looking into Kenya s
past will help to clarify how coffee became an agricultural commodity, and give insight into its
beginnings. Before outsiders came into Africa, the country now known as Kenya, was a nomadic
area inhabited by Cushite people. It was not until the first century B.C. when Arabic people came
to the area as traders. They soon began to colonize areas along the coast of the Indian Ocean. Also
in the first century the Bantu began to settle areas inland from the coast. It took Europeans over
fourteen hundred more years to make their way to Kenya. Kenya was now under the rule of the
Portuguese. From the sixteenth until the nineteenth century Kenya was an Islamic state, then it
became a British colony. It was in the 19th century when an eastern area of Africa becomes Kenya.
In 1888, Kenya comes under British rule,

Political Analysis Of Jonathan Swift s Gulliver s Travel...
Political Satire in Jonathan Swift s Gulliver s Travel
Vision is the art of seeing things invisible.. Jonathan Swift
Introduction
Born on November 30, 1667, Irish author, clergyman and satirist Jonathan Swift grew up
fatherless. Under the care of his uncle, he received a bachelor s degree from Trinity College and
then worked as a statesman s assistant. Eventually, he became dean of St. Patrick s Cathedral in
Dublin. Most of his writings were published under pseudonyms. He best remembered for his 1726
book Gulliver s Travels.
While leading his congregation at St. Patrick s, Swift began to write what would become his
best known work. In 1726, at last finished with the manuscript, he traveled to London and
benefited from the help of several friends, who anonymously published it as Travels into Several
Remote Nations of the World, in Four Parts. By Lemuel Gulliver, First a Surgeon, and then a
Captain of Several Ships also known, more simply, as Gulliver s Travels. The book was an
immediate success, and hasn t been out of print since its first run. Interestingly, much of the
storyline points to historical events that Swift had lived through years prior, during intense political
turmoil. In 1742, Swift suffered from a stroke and lost the ability to speak. On October 19, 1745,
Jonathan Swift died. He was laid to rest next to Esther Johnson inside Dublin s St. Patrick s
Cathedral.

Song Airlines Business Case Essay
Song Airlines Case
Song airline was a low cost carrier subsidiary of Delta airlines that started in 2003. It was formed
to compete with JetBlue and other low cost airlines for the Florida market. The market
environment at the time of the case was extremely difficult with the rising costs of fuel, increasing
security requirements after 9/11 and customers expectations of lower fares. It has forced many big
players in the airline industry into bankruptcy. The operational costs which include gate fees,
ground operational costs etc. were increasing causing even more problems for the airlines. The
fares in the Florida route were decreasing while the costs were ever increasing making it difficult to
remain operational in that space.

Song Airlines spent a lot of time analyzing the past data and did a lot of market research to come up
these various strategy points. And I think, it clearly shows that they used experience curve
techniques to analyze and use the data like gate utilization, flight attendant working times, seat
usage, and flight route scheduling etc. to optimize the operational aspects of running the overall
operations. It was stated that based on these initiatives they achieved 20 В– 25% lower operational
costs in running the airline as compared to running it in a Delta configuration. By using the
various main concepts like low fares, great services and targeted marketing they were able to
achieve good success. By focusing on the main strategy aspects simultaneously like lowering
operational costs, optimizing logistics, increasing the service level and perceive value by
portraying a high end service, Song was able to integrate these various aspects nicely.
Some of the key opportunities in the current market environment for airline industry are:
1.Increasing Customer service levels. Consumers are generally expecting more fro airlines and
Song has already addressed this in original strategy which was very customer satisfaction based.

Brief History on Californian Ingenuous People We have all heard the story of how America came
to be, and how Native Americans were pushed out because of this. In regards to the west coast, the
history is a bit different. There is evidence of natives living in California since from at least 17,000
BCE. Prior to contact with Europeans, the California region contained the highest native American
population north of what is now Mexico. Because of the temperate climate and easy access to food
sources, approximately one third of all Native Americans in the United States were living in
California. The Spanish began their long term occupation in California in 1769. California and its
Spanish Colonization were different from earlier efforts to simultaneously introduce missionaries

A Report On Ballast Water
Ballast water is used every day by thousands of ships to control trim, stability, list and the stresses
of the vessel. Ballast water is picked up in one part of the world but then can be discharged in
another, in doing this the transfer of non indigenous invasive aquatic species can occur. These
species end up destroying ecosystems that they are not originally a part of. Therefore many
standards and regulations have come about in how to exchanging ballast so as to reduce the
transfer of these species. To comply with these regulations ships and ship owners have installed
onboard their vessels different types of systems to eliminate these aquatic species. Not only do
these system need to be ecofriendly but they must also but other considerations that must be taken
into account when installing a ballast system is the size of the system and ease of installation, cost
effectiveness, environmentally friendly and effectiveness of eliminating the aquatic species. Many
of the leading companies that create these systems make them compact, easy to install and to
make sure that all operational requirements are met to help minimize ship yard time. Before the
regulation about needing a ballast water treatment system a ship could do a ballast exchange. The
exchange of ballast water, in deep ocean areas or open seas, was the first step towards limiting the
transfer of invasive aquatic species in ballast water . (Anwar 11). This was not a permeant solution

Difference Between Absolute and Comparative Advatage
The theory of comparative advantage is perhaps one of the most important concepts in international
trade theory.
A country has an absolute advantage in the production of a good relative to another country if it
can produce the good at lower cost or with higher productivity. Absolute advantage compares
industry productivities across countries. In the case of Zambia, for instance, the country has an
absolute advantage over many countries in the production of copper. This occurs because of the
existence of reserves of copper ore or bauxite. We can see that in terms of the production of goods,
there are obvious gains from specialisation and trade, if Zambia produces copper and exports it to
those countries that specialise in the production ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Country B has an absolute disadvantage. Due to abundance of raw materials or more productively
efficient production techniques, Country A is able to produce more wheat and more maize that
Country B. Perhaps common sense tells us that Country A should produce both goods and export
surpluses and Country B neither. However, when comparative advantageis considered a different
story emerges.
Consider the opportunity cost of Country A producing one more unit of maize. Half a unit of wheat
has been foregone. When country B produces one more unit of maize two units of wheat are
foregone. Economics is concerned with the allocation of scarce resources. Fewer resources are
foregone if Country A concentrates its resources in the production of maize.
Now consider the opportunity cost of Country B producing one more unit of wheat. Two units of
maize have been foregone. When Country B produces one more unit of wheat only half a unit of
maize is foregone. Fewer resources are foregone if Country B specialises in the production of
wheat. In the above case Country A should produce maize and Country B wheat. The surpluses
produce should then be traded.
We can see that the principle of comparative advantage is clearly counter intuitive. Many results
from the formal model are contrary to simple logic; in the other hand the logic behind absolute
advantage is quite intuitive.

Toxic Masculinity
Few would argue against the notion that society has unrealistic and unfair expectations of women.
However, little time seems to be spent talking about harmful societal expectations of men,
specifically those associated with toxic masculinity. Toxic masculinity is when men feel the need to
prove their masculinityby upholding traditional masculine values and behaviors in a way that is
detrimental to themselves and others. These behaviors traditionally associated with men include a
need to prove one s strength over others, blocking out emotional attachments, asserting dominance
over others, and denying traditionally feminine behavior, such as crying and showing emotional
weakness (Hess). Michael Omi s article In Living Color: Race and American Culture describes
how the media has had a large role in perpetuating racial stereotypes, but all his arguments can very
well be related to genderstereotype. Movies that glorifies toxic masculinity will inevitably
legitimize its behaviors to the public. Therefore, media that critiques stereotypes is important to
shifting audience opinions. Despite being a comedy film about a team of superheroes fighting
aliens threatening the universe, the 2017 Marvel film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 tackles this
subject of toxic masculinity through essentially all of its male characters. In particular, the movie s
protagonist, Peter, is the focal point of this commentary. Peter s mother died when he was young

This quote, in the literal sense, begs for one to be true to one s self, as someone who is not true to
himself is false. This sentiment expressed by Polonius becomes seemingly incongruous with the
events and judgments made throughout the play, as the theme of deceit reigns over that of virtue.
While the play progresses, the characters demonstrate a growing struggle for virtueand lose the
power to be true to their own selves, thus compromising their abilities to uphold justice. As
actualities regarding King Hamlets death become apparent, either truthfulness and virtue, or the
ability to maintain justice is compromised. This concept is especially present in considering

Throughout the play, granted his pensive and emotional nature, Hamlet does eventually evolve
due to much moral and virtuous growth, and while he never reaches the standards of a prince
qualified to oversee a nation, he does outgrow the role of the politically subordinate fawner.
Internal growth occurred when Hamlet finally learned to differentiate between his true self in
relation to his perception of self. His initial fits of madness and antic dispositions made this
differentiation vaguer, as these episodes had called into question his mental stability. When
presented on a public platform, Hamlet s stability seemed to be deteriorating; however, in
reviewing his introspective side, its clear that he feels great pain due to his father s death, as
demonstrated by his constant contemplation surrounding how he can best handle the situation. It is
when Hamlet discovers his sense of self that he develops a sense of virtue that begins to allow him
to exhibit both characteristics of integrity and justice; however, it is not until the accidental murder
of his mother that Hamlet develops the motivation of social justice in conjunction with virtue. This
being said, the struggle for a balance of justice and virtue does not occur until Hamlet feels that he
has contributed to upholding social justice by convicting those responsible for their crimes. This

Monogamy And Polygamy
In Islam, there are two types of permissible marriages which are monogamy and polygamy.
Monogamy refers to singular marriages whereas polygamy are plural marriages. Polygamy
branches out into two types of plural marriages which are polygyny and polyandry. Polygyny are
marriages between a man with many women while polyandry are marriages between a woman
with many men (Wong and Cox). In Malaysia, plural marriages are lawful and occur as polygyny
among Muslims. Polygynous marriages have sparked debates on whether the principles of these
marriages give justice towards Muslim women. For years, polygyny has been viewed as a free
practice, a way for men to fulfil their sexual desires and contravention of women s rights. Yet,
these arguments are misleading because the principles of polygyny in Malaysia are irrefutably fair
to women. This is due to the fact that the principles of polygyny establish restrictions on the
practice of polygyny, abide the nature of polygyny in Islam and protect women s rights. Contrary to

Based on the Quran, verse 3 of Surah An Nisa serves as a proof that the primary purpose for
polygyny is to protect widows and orphans. This is because the verse was revealed after a war

context above, the principles of polygyny are fair to Muslim women because polygyny is not
practised to fulfil men s sexual desire, rather it is a means of allowing a man to take widows and

not an obligation to women. Hence, women can choose to engage in either monogamous or

The focus of this paper is to provide information on the importance of immigrant involvement and
participation in society, and how this in turn can help in their integration into Canadian
communities. Through the use of academic research, I argue, that it is through immigrant
involvement in the creation of services and policies that cater to immigrant social, financial,... Show

home. Housing impacts the process of integration as it is the base for starting and establishing life
in a new community. For example without housing, immigrants are prone to homelessness, which
can then lead to health problems, then to emotional distress. Therefore lack of housing poses a
threat to the integration process of newcomers. In the Peel Region, settlement workers and agencies
themselves are stressing the lack of settlement services provided to the new arrivals. With cities like
Mississauga whose immigrant population is rapidly increasing, settlement services must be readily
available. According to a Mississauga settlement worker, there has been major financial cut backs
from Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) (Mukhtar et. al., 2015, 398). As a result of this
lack of government support, agencies are now being limited in their ability to provide for example,
programs (settlement education), and other related services. Therefore lack of housing is a clear
concern for

What Does Soccer Mean To Me
I am not someone who changes minds often. Even though I always stick to myself and believe
what I say and think, I actually have changed my mind on something. I have changed my mind
on soccer. I used to think that soccer was a boring sport to watch and play, and that it was mostly
for girls. Now I find the sport different and therefore, I enjoy it and have learned to appreciate it. I
was born in Mexico and my entire family are Mexican, which someone could think that soccer is
our passion. Not necessarily, because other sports are enjoyed as well in Mexico. Where we
come from, baseball is the most popular sport in those parts. Growing up in the United States and
loving sports, soccer was obviously not one of my favorite sports. In fact, I disliked

Characteristics Of The Amazon Rainforest
Its unique environment and biodiversity
The Amazon River Basin is named as one of the 7 wonders of nature. It covers nearly 2,700,000
square miles. There are eight countries that fall within the border of the Amazon River Basin; they
are Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Suriname, and Guiana. The Amazon rainforest
covers 2,100,000 of those miles. To give you a greater sense of the size, the rainforest is about the
size of the United States. It is estimated to have 16,000 tree species and 30 percent of the world s
species found there, and over 90% of the animal species in the Amazon are insects. The Amazon
rainforest is one of Earth s last refuges for jaguars, harpy eagles and pink dolphins, and home to
thousands of birds and butterflies. Tree dwelling species include southern two toed sloths, pygmy
marmosets, saddleback and emperor tamarins, and Goeldi s monkeys. (World Wildlife Fund. n.d.)
We do know there are 40,000 plant species, and 3,000 freshwater fish species and more than 370
types of reptiles. But people live there too, it s estimated that 20 million people live in the
rainforest. (World Wildlife Fund. n.d.)
Its importance to humans
The Amazon rainforest, which is also referred to as a natural sink is a major warrior in the war
on global warming. While humans are burning fossil fuels and using gas, oil and coal carbon
dioxide is pouring into the atmosphere. Trees naturally absorb carbon dioxide use it for
photosynthesis, then release clean oxygen. (Oskin, B. 2014, March 20) Then you have the Amazon
river that meanders through the rainforest teeming with life and home to some of the biggest fish
in the world. It s a main route of transportation for food and supplies to towns and villages. Twenty
percent of the world s water comes from the Amazon river. (Amazonaid. 2017, August 14)
Examples of how human activities affect the rainforest and how this, in turn, can impact humans
The greatest cause of destruction to the Amazon rainforest is humans. Whether we have good
intentions or not the Amazon is in need of saving. Currently the Amazon River and its banks and
channels are being mined for gold and other precious metals. Extraction methods are seemingly
barbaric, blasting

How Does The Crucifixion In The Dream Of The Rood
In The Dream of the Rood, an Anglo Saxon poem written in the early Middle Ages, Christ s
death and burial is described in a manner which is startlingly different from the original biblical
accounts. In order to highlight the important victory of the crucifixion, the poet of The Dream of
the Rood describes Christ as an aggressive warrior who boldly confronts and defeats sin. This
description is constant with the honor and courage so highly valued in the early medieval culture.
The words used to describe Christ s approach to the crucifixionin The Dream of the Rood reveal the
poet s conscious choice to portray Jesusas a purposeful courageous warrior:
Then the young hero (who was God Almighty)
Got ready, resolute and strong in heart.
...the warrior embraced [the cross].
Instead of simply using the word Christ, the poet calls Jesus the young hero and the warrior. The
poet also presents a warrior like image of Christ by portraying Jesus exuberantly preparing for
combat rather than being lead passively to the cross. Where the Bible ... Show more content on

Where the book of John says that Jesus bowed his head and gave up his spirit, the poet of The
Dream of the Rood says that Christ sent forth his spirit. This small difference between these two
accounts is important because the poet of The Dream of the Rood does not suggest that Jesus
gently give up his spirit, but rather that he forcefully and willfully ended his life, in complete
control of the situation until the end. Just as The Dream of the Rood poet omits details in the
biblical accounts of the crucifixion that imply Jesus was a passive participant in his death, he or
she de emphasizes the disgrace, humiliation, and indignity of Christ s position. Nowhere in The
Dream of the Rood is it mentioned that Jesus was mocked, flogged, and spit upon in the manner
described in the gospel of

Cult Of Stalin Essay
The Cult of Stalin was an ingenious method devised by the man himself to convince the populace
of his adequacy, leading on from the previous Cult of Lenin. The inflation of his image was built
upon a foundation of insecurity: he d found that Lenin himself had expressed that he was not sure
whether he will always be capable of using that authority with sufficient caution (from
PowerPoint). This explains a lot of the exaggeration of his power, and the gradual shift from
posing behind Lenin as his successor to standing before him in an act of supremacy. Stalin needed
to prove to the public that he was worthy of succession.
The shift from state to Stalin was an escalation from the Cult of Lenin in many ways. Lenin was

Common themes of the image that they maintained for themselves was the display of grandeur and
longevity, as opposed to Lenin presenting the success of Communism, or Stalin s succession of
Lenin. The difference in direction between the tsars and the communist leaders comes from the Tsar
s security of their position of power. During Nicholas reign, it was still believed that it was the
divine right of the king to rule, so the aim of propaganda was to remind their people of their right to
rule, and to ensure them that their line would continue. An example of this is the lavish celebration
of Tsarina Alexandra s coronation; The Russian celebrities Vasiliy Vasnetsov and Alexander Benoit
designed watercolours for the menus of the festive meals. The composer Alexander Glazunov
dedicated a cantata. http://www.angelfire.com/pa/ImperialRussian/royalty/russia
/coronation.htmlFor the Russians, it represented the continuation of the Romanov line. With a new
queen, there was now opportunity for children, and therefore a son to be heir. However, neither
Nicholas nor his son ever needed to prove themselves as rightful successors, unlike Lenin or Stalin.
The differences in both the purpose and method of propaganda prove that Stalin s work in
propaganda was not a continuation of their

Beyond Bumper Sticker Ethics , by Steve Wilson.
Lessons to Live By In his book, Beyond Bumper Sticker Ethics, author Steve Wilkens discusses nine
ethical views that are prevalent in cultures today. Although the systems are sometimes vague, and
his discussions, a bit biased, I find myself fortunate because I seem to agree with most of his
opinions that he lets slip. The first ethical belief that the author discusses is Cultural Relativism. It
talks about the how diversity is becoming more and more apparent between different cultures
worldwide. The author mentions that often customs that are unquestioningly accepted in one part
of the world are considered abhorrent in another, for example: human sacrifice. Cultural Relativism
claims that there are no absolute standards for moral... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No crime would be anyone s fault. People would not take responsibility for their actions, and this
world in fact, not be ethical at all. Egoism advocates the selfish pursuit of happiness, although it
does seem to put more emphasis on selfishness than happiness. Utilitarianism, which is the next
view discussed, keeps the pursuit of happiness, but eliminates selfishness. This system seems
more socially inclusive, and its main slogan is the greatest happiness for the greatest number. To
me, this is the most wishy washy chapter. One thing from this ethical view that I do agree with is
that it offers a means of balancing individual freedoms with social obligations. While God does
choose certain people to do certain things, we are all judged according to one standard and loved
equally by God. Also, it would seem difficult to imagine a loving God who wants to torture his
creatures. Of course He wants them to be happy. One problem I have with this view is that it
says that actions are judged by their consequences. If this is true, then we can t know if our
actions are good are bad because the decision is dependent on knowing the future. Also, if we
chose one path, we would still not know what the results of the other choices would have been so
how would one know if the one he made was the greatest good. Also, according to Utilitarianism,
we must face the problems concerning the extent ( greatest number ) of actions. We would then
have to face who would be

Spider Bite Research Papers
Insect and spider bites are very common, and most can be treated safely at home without
medical assistance. Unfortunately, there are several types of spider bites that can cause
complications if not treated promptly by a doctor. Country singer, Carelle Mowatt, learned this
the hard way. The 24 year old woman, who lives in England, was surprised to wake up one
morning with a large blister on her leg that had formed after receiving a spider bite. She decided
to treat it at home with antihistamines. The blister continued to grow over in size over the next
several days. When it erupted, Mowatt knew it was time to be seen by a doctor. Doctors told her
that the blister was from a spider bite that had become infected. Mowatt s leg was incredibly... Show

Though they rarely cause death, black widow bites are serious due to the extreme pain. Those
who are bitten should go to an emergency room. Antitoxins are typically administered to
counteract the venom and narcotics may be prescribed for the pain. Brown Recluse Spider http:/
/hardinmd.lib.uiowa.edu/pictures22/dermatlas/loxosceles_1_020724.jpg Brown recluses are
found both indoors and outdoors in the central and southern parts of the United States. They
typically are found in dark, quiet places such as shoes, vents, shoe boxes and in the attic. The
initial bite is painless at first. Within the hour, most people notice a burning sensation at the site.
A small pimple or blister forms within the next several hours. Left untreated, the skin in the
affected area will begin to raise and darken. Extensive tissue death and damage can occur
without prompt medical care. After receiving the bite, ice should be applied to reduce swelling.
The spider should be kept, if possible, in a bag in order for doctors to correctly identify it.
Emergency care is required in order for antibiotics and pain relievers to be administered, which will
prevent tissue damage from occurring. Common Sac

Great Gatsby Symbolism
The symbols shown in both novels can be seen effecting the characters lives in both a positive and
negative way. John Steinbeck, Of Mice and Men s author, introduces the character of Lennie, who
has a dream of tending to several rabbits that live on their imaginary farm. F. Scott Fitzgerald, the
author of The Great Gatsby, introduces Jay Gatsby, a character who reaches for a green light
across the water representing his hopes and dreams of one day being with his true love again.
These symbols, representing the unattainable dreams the characters have, can be seen damaging
their future while the characters are unaware. The symbolism presented in both Of Mice and
Men and The Great Gatsby reflect the characters dreams which lead to affect their lives. Beyond
Lennie s dream of tending the rabbits in Of Mice and Men, Lennie has been known throughout
the novel for hurting just about everything he touches. So, if Lennie gets the opportunity to tend
the rabbits, he will probably kill them and his dream will never come true. Although, Lennie
might not know this dream will not come true, his best friend, George knows. George said, I
think I knowed from the very first. I think I knowed we d never do her. He usta like to hear about
it so much I got to thinking maybe we would (Steinbeck 94). This meaning, George grasped onto
the dream he and Lennie shared, knowing it wasn t going to come true, to get him through the
days. With this, Steinbeck shows how he believes dreams are solely meant to be dreamt, not
reached. Lennie is so focused on the future and what they want to come, he doesn t realize the
harm he has done to the things around him, such as killing the dog, rat, and even killing Curly s
Wife. The rabbits symbolize Lennie s hopes for the future, love, and safety. Lennie, being so
innocent, only believes what George tells him, therefore, whenever he does wrong, the rabbits keep
him feeling safe. Lennie never wanted anything else but to tend the rabbits, he didn t care about the
land or even being free, his mind was solely caught up in the thought of having something for his
entertainment.
Likewise, in the novel, The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald introduces the character of Jay Gatsby, a man
who had a past love with

  • 2. The Cove, By Mark Monroe And Directed By Louis Psihoyos Dogs are regarded as man s best friend, but in the sea, that title is claimed by dolphins. Humans have long regarded dolphins as magical and friendly creatures. With their penchant for saving humans from dire situations like shark encounters or drowning, and their friendly playfulness, dolphins have certainly earned their reputation. The Cove is an award winning film written by Mark Monroe and directed by Louis Psihoyos in which an investigation id made of the annual carnage in Japan where hundreds of dolphins are dispatched in masses. Although it has been shown that dolphins are sentient creatures, the Japanese government utilizes dubious ethic methods for still participating in the destruction of dolphin populations. Japan is renowned around the world for being an extremely prosperous nation despite being the only populace to have been bombed by nuclear weapons. From that point on, the Japanese has reinvigorated a more modern culture. But for the outcry of respect for traditional Japanese culture, the coast local fishermen claim that their justification for hunting dolphins is that You eat cows. Well, we eat dolphins (The Cove). The workers inform protestors that it is part of their culture to partake in the production and consumption of dolphin meat. The fishermen clarify that dolphins in Japan are like cows in the U.S. Just as the U.S. businesses cultivate farm animal agriculture as a food source, the Japanese do so too. Therefore, the Japanese fishermen are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The International Criminal Court As An Advocate For Peace The International Criminal Court as Both Mediator and Arbiter in Conflicts Paul Daniel Thornton Dr. Lealle Ruhl POLI 1145 Peace and Conflict Studies Wednesday, November 16, 2016 INTRODUCTIONIn the pursuit of positive peace for the global community, certain mechanisms are necessary in order to better protect human rights and resolve interstate conflicts. Prior to the events of World War II, a cogent set of laws defining those human rights, much less violations therein were never heard at an international scale. The International Criminal Court has the role as both appellate for justice and voice for peace in the international community but has not yet resolve the contradictory ends of both roles. That contradictory end is that many countries proclaim the necessity of the International Criminal Court as an advocate for conflict resolution and peace advocacy while being resist or outright antagonistic towards the court when their own state has committed those same crimes. To the ends of defending basic universal rights, the International Criminal Court (hereafter ICC) serves that capacity when state level systems cannot or will not act accordingly. Initially, this was seen following World War II with the Nuremberg trials in response to the atrocities committed by Nazi Germany. However in more contemporary history, the ICC was formed to in response to the events in the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda. These tribunals were unprecedented, not only in their global ... • 5. Acid Fracturing Treatment in an Iranian Carbonated Reservoir Acid fracturing is a sensitive stimulation technique that has been widely used by the oil industry but is limited to so many considerations. An acid fracturing treatment must produce a conductive flow channel long enough to alter the flow pattern in the reservoir from a radial pattern to one that approaches linear flow. This needs high rate of acid flow completed with formation solution in acid. Considering the above restrictions imposed by acid fracturing, its applicability is limited to special cases where no better solution is available especially in Iranian oil fields. In this paper, one of these special cases is studied occurred in a carbonate reservoir in Iran. This was the first successful acid fracturing operation in an Iranian reservoir which makes the condition so delicate and unique as there was so many uncertainties and lack of experience. As we know, hydraulic fracturing has been used worldwide in damaged formations and formations with low conductivity but performing acid fracturing has been limited to so many operational and reservoir restriction. The main difference between acid fracturing and proppant fracturing is the way fracture conductivity is created. In proppant fracturing, a propping agent is used to prop open the fracture after the treatment is completed. In acid fracturing, acid is used to etch channels in the rock that comprise the walls of the fracture. Thus, the rock has to be partially soluble in acid so that channels can be etched in the ... Plenty Of Wild West Analysis The second main weakness that is found in Global Americans is that it does not elaborate on how the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show wrongfully portrayed Native Americans as dangerous or the impact it had on the viewers. Global Americans makes a brief mention that Cody portrayed Indians as victorious, but does not explain in what sense; primary sources, on the other side, illustrate that in the show Indians were portrayed as savages that needed to be civilized. Although the roles that Natives played were dramatized, they were concurrent with the perception American society and the government perpetuated. The Key Objective Of A Great Facilitator The main objective of a great facilitator is to development a team that is cohesive and cooperative, producing results that make the group the most effective and efficient unit possible. However, this is not always the case. Building a team that flourishes in any situation can be a daunting endeavor. Many individuals unknowingly lack the skills necessary to be a great facilitator. Roger Schwarz (2002), has created nine ground rules for honing a more effective group. When these nine ground rules are applied and executed by a team, any facilitator will be able to produce a more effective and efficient group. Furthermore, by becoming familiar with the ground rules, you can watch a group and identify specifically what is happening that is enhancing or hindering the group s process (Schwarz, 2002 p. 96). Schwarz s (2002), nine ground rules are as followed respectively, test assumptions and inferences, share all relevant information, use specific examples and agree on what important words mean, explain your reasoningand intent, focus on interests, not positions, combine advocacy and inquiry, jointly design next steps and ways to test disagreements, discuss undiscussable issues, and us a decision making rule that generates the level of commitment needed (p. 97). • 17. Patient Centered Care Has A Triple Aim In a day and age where everything is becoming mobile and consumer driven, healthcare is no exception. Patients are now able to drive healthcare industry spending and have access to more health services. A growing body of evidence suggests that the patient centered medical home is an effective model to transform primary care and serve as a foundation for accountable care organizations, working together in integrated communities of care (Harbrechet Latts, 2015). Patient centered care could change the outdated medical models by focusing on patient doctor relationships and what the patient deems important in their healthcare (Kahn, 2014). Patient centered care has a triple aim: to improve individuals health; achieve improved population health; and reduce cost trends. A complementary goal was to improve satisfaction for patients and health care teams (Harbrechet Latts, 2015). Early studies suggest that this type of care will also improve efficiency and lend us closer to the frontier of health production. The Patient Centered Health model is the fastest growing healthcare delivery system innovation (O Kane, Barr, Scholle, 2014). This is largely due to the Affordable Care Act and its impact on health coverage (Fifield, Forrest, Burleson, Martin Peele, Gillespie, 2013; Harbrechet Latts, 2015). This paper will focus on how patient centered medicineimpacts efficiency in healthcare. The Affordable Care Act gives patients more choices in their health coverage options in ... • 21. The Conflict Between India And Pakistan The conflict in Kashmir appears to most as a bilateral territorial conflict between India and Pakistan. The roots of the conflict are often traced back to August 1947, when the erstwhile British India was partitioned into two new nation states India and Pakistan. The foundation of the Islamic Republic of Pakistanwas the Two Nation theory propounded by Mohammed Ali Jinnah s, the Leader of the All India Muslim League till August 1947, and then the first Governor General of Pakistan. The demand for a separate independent state for Muslims living in British India was founded on the apprehension that they shall be prejudiced against in the Hindu majority state of India. As per the said Two Nation theory, all such states and provinces where the majority of the population was Muslim were to become a part of Pakistan after the British withdrew from India, and the new nation state of Pakistan was created. The independence and the accompanying partition of Indiawere affected through the Indian Independence Act 1947 (hereinafter the Act ). As per the provisions of the Act, the territories of the British India were to be divided into India and the new State of Pakistan. The division of the territories was in accordance with religious demography of the constituent states. At that time, there were 562 Princely States in the British India, which were nominally sovereign monarchies under a local or regional ruler in a subsidiary alliance with the British Crown. George Brown (1867) congratulated Canada on confederation, impressed with the Canadian s ability to compromise between two separate peoples, the French and English, who have vastly different religions, cultures, laws, and languages, something European countries like Holland and Belgium, Austria and Hungary, and Russia and Poland have been historically unable to accomplish successfully. The Constitution specifically protects important French aspects including freedom of religion, language guarantees in Quebec, and French civil law. The Canadian Constitution ensures duality of French and English in language. The Constitution (1867) states that both French and English have equality of status and equal rights and privileges as to their use in all institutions of the Parliament and Government of Canada, (Section V). Ballast water is picked up in one part of the world but then can be discharged in another, in doing this the transfer of non indigenous invasive aquatic species can occur. These species end up destroying ecosystems that they are not originally a part of. • 33. Difference Between Absolute and Comparative Advatage The theory of comparative advantage is perhaps one of the most important concepts in international trade theory. A country has an absolute advantage in the production of a good relative to another country if it can produce the good at lower cost or with higher productivity. Absolute advantage compares industry productivities across countries. In the case of Zambia, for instance, the country has an absolute advantage over many countries in the production of copper. This occurs because of the existence of reserves of copper ore or bauxite. We can see that in terms of the production of goods, there are obvious gains from specialisation and trade, if Zambia produces copper and exports it to those countries that specialise in the production ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Country B has an absolute disadvantage. Due to abundance of raw materials or more productively efficient production techniques, Country A is able to produce more wheat and more maize that Country B. Perhaps common sense tells us that Country A should produce both goods and export surpluses and Country B neither. However, when comparative advantageis considered a different story emerges. Consider the opportunity cost of Country A producing one more unit of maize. Half a unit of wheat has been foregone. When country B produces one more unit of maize two units of wheat are foregone. Economics is concerned with the allocation of scarce resources. Fewer resources are foregone if Country A concentrates its resources in the production of maize. Now consider the opportunity cost of Country B producing one more unit of wheat. Two units of maize have been foregone. When Country B produces one more unit of wheat only half a unit of maize is foregone. Fewer resources are foregone if Country B specialises in the production of wheat. In the above case Country A should produce maize and Country B wheat. The surpluses produce should then be traded. We can see that the principle of comparative advantage is clearly counter intuitive. Many results from the formal model are contrary to simple logic; in the other hand the logic behind absolute advantage is quite intuitive. Source: Economics 7th Edition, David Begg. These behaviors traditionally associated with men include a need to prove one s strength over others, blocking out emotional attachments, asserting dominance over others, and denying traditionally feminine behavior, such as crying and showing emotional weakness (Hess). Movies that glorifies toxic masculinity will inevitably legitimize its behaviors to the public. Therefore, media that critiques stereotypes is important to shifting audience opinions. • 41. Monogamy And Polygamy In Islam, there are two types of permissible marriages which are monogamy and polygamy. Monogamy refers to singular marriages whereas polygamy are plural marriages. Polygamy branches out into two types of plural marriages which are polygyny and polyandry. Polygyny are marriages between a man with many women while polyandry are marriages between a woman with many men (Wong and Cox). In Malaysia, plural marriages are lawful and occur as polygyny among Muslims. Polygynous marriages have sparked debates on whether the principles of these marriages give justice towards Muslim women. For years, polygyny has been viewed as a free practice, a way for men to fulfil their sexual desires and contravention of women s rights. Yet, these arguments are misleading because the principles of polygyny in Malaysia are irrefutably fair to women. This is due to the fact that the principles of polygyny establish restrictions on the practice of polygyny, abide the nature of polygyny in Islam and protect women s rights. Contrary to popular belief,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Based on the Quran, verse 3 of Surah An Nisa serves as a proof that the primary purpose for polygyny is to protect widows and orphans. This is because the verse was revealed after a war that killed many Muslim men, leaving their wives and children defenceless (Grant). In the context above, the principles of polygyny are fair to Muslim women because polygyny is not practised to fulfil men s sexual desire, rather it is a means of allowing a man to take widows and orphans under their protection. Not only that, on the same verse in Quran, it states that polygyny is not an obligation to women. Hence, women can choose to engage in either monogamous or polygynous marriages. To put it briefly, the principles of polygyny is fair to Muslim women because of its main purpose and the fact that it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although the dream of a being an astronaut, star athlete, or the next president of the United States has essentially fell through the roof at this point in my life I still strive for success every day. Growing up with a mother in sales, and a father that is a CPA accountant it was basically inevitable that I would fall along a similar path of them both. The career path that I have ultimately chose to dedicate my time to is lying somewhere along the lines of Finance. Iowa State has given me the opportunity to observe all potential outcomes that are a part of the College of Business. Personally, coming into Iowa State I had no idea what I wanted to do. Everything was new to me once I graduated high school, I had a lot of growing up to do and so far I can honestly say that I am proud of myself with what I have accomplished so far. Making the Dean s List, entering the professional program, and meeting an abundance of excellent people involved in comparing business departments have all helped me gain an even greater interest in the financial business field. As a 19 year old the most common question I receive from just about everyone I have ever talked to relating to my career path is, Why Finance? If you chose to sit down and have a conversation with me, you d understand why I collect the, Why Finance question so much. I do not fall under the stereotype of the typical financial business men. However, not a lot of research is being done on how they themselves have, and are able to incorporate their own culture into Canadian society. Therefore, I was very interested in finding research that focuses on how immigrant communities have done so. The focus of this paper is to provide information on the importance of immigrant involvement and participation in society, and how this in turn can help in their integration into Canadian communities. Through the use of academic research, I argue, that it is through immigrant involvement in the creation of services and policies that cater to immigrant social, financial,... Housing impacts the process of integration as it is the base for starting and establishing life in a new community. For example without housing, immigrants are prone to homelessness, which can then lead to health problems, then to emotional distress. Therefore lack of housing poses a threat to the integration process of newcomers. In the Peel Region, settlement workers and agencies themselves are stressing the lack of settlement services provided to the new arrivals. With cities like Mississauga whose immigrant population is rapidly increasing, settlement services must be readily available. According to a Mississauga settlement worker, there has been major financial cut backs from Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) (Mukhtar et. al., 2015, 398). As a result of this lack of government support, agencies are now being limited in their ability to provide for example, programs (settlement education), and other related services. I have changed my mind on soccer. I used to think that soccer was a boring sport to watch and play, and that it was mostly for girls. Now I find the sport different and therefore, I enjoy it and have learned to appreciate it. I was born in Mexico and my entire family are Mexican, which someone could think that soccer is our passion. Not necessarily, because other sports are enjoyed as well in Mexico. • 45. Characteristics Of The Amazon Rainforest Its unique environment and biodiversity The Amazon River Basin is named as one of the 7 wonders of nature. It covers nearly 2,700,000 square miles. There are eight countries that fall within the border of the Amazon River Basin; they are Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Suriname, and Guiana. The Amazon rainforest covers 2,100,000 of those miles. To give you a greater sense of the size, the rainforest is about the size of the United States. It is estimated to have 16,000 tree species and 30 percent of the world s species found there, and over 90% of the animal species in the Amazon are insects. The Amazon rainforest is one of Earth s last refuges for jaguars, harpy eagles and pink dolphins, and home to thousands of birds and butterflies. Tree dwelling species include southern two toed sloths, pygmy marmosets, saddleback and emperor tamarins, and Goeldi s monkeys. (World Wildlife Fund. n.d.) We do know there are 40,000 plant species, and 3,000 freshwater fish species and more than 370 types of reptiles. But people live there too, it s estimated that 20 million people live in the rainforest. (World Wildlife Fund. n.d.) Its importance to humans The Amazon rainforest, which is also referred to as a natural sink is a major warrior in the war on global warming. While humans are burning fossil fuels and using gas, oil and coal carbon dioxide is pouring into the atmosphere. Trees naturally absorb carbon dioxide use it for photosynthesis, then release clean oxygen. (Oskin, B. 2014, March 20) Then you have the Amazon river that meanders through the rainforest teeming with life and home to some of the biggest fish in the world. It s a main route of transportation for food and supplies to towns and villages. Twenty percent of the world s water comes from the Amazon river. (Amazonaid. 2017, August 14) Examples of how human activities affect the rainforest and how this, in turn, can impact humans The greatest cause of destruction to the Amazon rainforest is humans. • 47. How Does The Crucifixion In The Dream Of The Rood In The Dream of the Rood, an Anglo Saxon poem written in the early Middle Ages, Christ s death and burial is described in a manner which is startlingly different from the original biblical accounts. In order to highlight the important victory of the crucifixion, the poet of The Dream of the Rood describes Christ as an aggressive warrior who boldly confronts and defeats sin. This description is constant with the honor and courage so highly valued in the early medieval culture. The words used to describe Christ s approach to the crucifixionin The Dream of the Rood reveal the poet s conscious choice to portray Jesusas a purposeful courageous warrior: Then the young hero (who was God Almighty) Got ready, resolute and strong in heart. ...the warrior embraced [the cross]. Instead of simply using the word Christ, the poet calls Jesus the young hero and the warrior. The poet also presents a warrior like image of Christ by portraying Jesus exuberantly preparing for combat rather than being lead passively to the cross. Where the Bible ... This small difference between these two accounts is important because the poet of The Dream of the Rood does not suggest that Jesus gently give up his spirit, but rather that he forcefully and willfully ended his life, in complete control of the situation until the end. Just as The Dream of the Rood poet omits details in the biblical accounts of the crucifixion that imply Jesus was a passive participant in his death, he or she de emphasizes the disgrace, humiliation, and indignity of Christ s position. The inflation of his image was built upon a foundation of insecurity: he d found that Lenin himself had expressed that he was not sure whether he will always be capable of using that authority with sufficient caution (from PowerPoint). This explains a lot of the exaggeration of his power, and the gradual shift from posing behind Lenin as his successor to standing before him in an act of supremacy. Stalin needed to prove to the public that he was worthy of succession. The shift from state to Stalin was an escalation from the Cult of Lenin in many ways. Lenin was praised endlessly for his ... Common themes of the image that they maintained for themselves was the display of grandeur and longevity, as opposed to Lenin presenting the success of Communism, or Stalin s succession of Lenin. The difference in direction between the tsars and the communist leaders comes from the Tsar s security of their position of power. During Nicholas reign, it was still believed that it was the divine right of the king to rule, so the aim of propaganda was to remind their people of their right to rule, and to ensure them that their line would continue. An example of this is the lavish celebration of Tsarina Alexandra s coronation; The Russian celebrities Vasiliy Vasnetsov and Alexander Benoit designed watercolours for the menus of the festive meals. The composer Alexander Glazunov dedicated a cantata. http://www.angelfire.com/pa/ImperialRussian/royalty/russia /coronation.htmlFor the Russians, it represented the continuation of the Romanov line. • 50. Beyond Bumper Sticker Ethics , by Steve Wilson. Lessons to Live By In his book, Beyond Bumper Sticker Ethics, author Steve Wilkens discusses nine ethical views that are prevalent in cultures today. Although the systems are sometimes vague, and his discussions, a bit biased, I find myself fortunate because I seem to agree with most of his opinions that he lets slip. The first ethical belief that the author discusses is Cultural Relativism. It talks about the how diversity is becoming more and more apparent between different cultures worldwide. The author mentions that often customs that are unquestioningly accepted in one part of the world are considered abhorrent in another, for example: human sacrifice. Cultural Relativism claims that there are no absolute standards for moral... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... No crime would be anyone s fault. People would not take responsibility for their actions, and this world in fact, not be ethical at all. Egoism advocates the selfish pursuit of happiness, although it does seem to put more emphasis on selfishness than happiness. Utilitarianism, which is the next view discussed, keeps the pursuit of happiness, but eliminates selfishness. This system seems more socially inclusive, and its main slogan is the greatest happiness for the greatest number. To me, this is the most wishy washy chapter. One thing from this ethical view that I do agree with is that it offers a means of balancing individual freedoms with social obligations. While God does choose certain people to do certain things, we are all judged according to one standard and loved equally by God. Also, it would seem difficult to imagine a loving God who wants to torture his creatures. Of course He wants them to be happy. One problem I have with this view is that it says that actions are judged by their consequences. If this is true, then we can t know if our actions are good are bad because the decision is dependent on knowing the future. Also, if we chose one path, we would still not know what the results of the other choices would have been so how would one know if the one he made was the greatest good. Also, according to Utilitarianism, we must face the problems concerning the extent ( greatest number ) of actions. We would then have to face who would be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unfortunately, there are several types of spider bites that can cause complications if not treated promptly by a doctor. Country singer, Carelle Mowatt, learned this the hard way. The 24 year old woman, who lives in England, was surprised to wake up one morning with a large blister on her leg that had formed after receiving a spider bite. She decided to treat it at home with antihistamines. The blister continued to grow over in size over the next several days. When it erupted, Mowatt knew it was time to be seen by a doctor. • 52. Great Gatsby Symbolism The symbols shown in both novels can be seen effecting the characters lives in both a positive and negative way. John Steinbeck, Of Mice and Men s author, introduces the character of Lennie, who has a dream of tending to several rabbits that live on their imaginary farm. F. Scott Fitzgerald, the author of The Great Gatsby, introduces Jay Gatsby, a character who reaches for a green light across the water representing his hopes and dreams of one day being with his true love again. These symbols, representing the unattainable dreams the characters have, can be seen damaging their future while the characters are unaware. The symbolism presented in both Of Mice and Men and The Great Gatsby reflect the characters dreams which lead to affect their lives. Beyond Lennie s dream of tending the rabbits in Of Mice and Men, Lennie has been known throughout the novel for hurting just about everything he touches. So, if Lennie gets the opportunity to tend the rabbits, he will probably kill them and his dream will never come true. Although, Lennie might not know this dream will not come true, his best friend, George knows. George said, I think I knowed from the very first. I think I knowed we d never do her. He usta like to hear about it so much I got to thinking maybe we would (Steinbeck 94). This meaning, George grasped onto the dream he and Lennie shared, knowing it wasn t going to come true, to get him through the days. With this, Steinbeck shows how he believes dreams are solely meant to be dreamt, not reached. Lennie is so focused on the future and what they want to come, he doesn t realize the harm he has done to the things around him, such as killing the dog, rat, and even killing Curly s Wife. The rabbits symbolize Lennie s hopes for the future, love, and safety. Lennie, being so innocent, only believes what George tells him, therefore, whenever he does wrong, the rabbits keep him feeling safe. Lennie never wanted anything else but to tend the rabbits, he didn t care about the land or even being free, his mind was solely caught up in the thought of having something for his entertainment.
