The Sinking Of The Titanic
A ship bigger than the world had ever seen, three years in the making, took less than three hours
to sink into the depths of the ocean (Fowler; Build ; Yasuda 6; Sinking ; Interesting ; Hall 38;
Stewart 8). In April of 1912, The RMS Titanic hit an iceberg and sank 12,000 feet to the ocean
floor. This incident cost the lives of over 1,500 passengers and crew members, over half the total
people that had been on board ( Sinking ). The Titanic was the largest ship ever built when it
entered service, at 882 feet long, 92 feet wide, and 175 feet high, and was touted as unsinkable
(Hall 19,38; Yasuda 5,7; Hopkinson 25; World s ; Stewart 8). The Titanic disaster was a wake up
call for many people, average citizens and maritime experts alike (Savage). As a result of the
sinking of the so called unsinkable Titanic, exploration into better safety regulations and
shipbuilding techniques occurred. Safety regulations in place at the time of the Titanic disaster
were outdated and ineffective, leading maritime experts to explore ways to improve them. Prior to
the sinking of the Titanic, the 1894 Merchant Shipping Act was the only regulation on how many
lifeboats a ship should have. It dictated how many lifeboats a ship needed, the total number of
which was based upon that ship s tonnage. The Merchant Shipping Act was 20 years old in 1912,
and did not take into account the rapidly increasing size of ships being constructed, since its
inception. According to the Merchant

The Great Philosopher Plato
Plato is known as one of ancient Greece s greatest philosophers. Plato was born in Athens, Greece
during 428 BCE. Some people believe that Plato s real name is Aristocles, if in fact this is true he
would have received this name from his grandfather. Historians believed that Plato had two full
brother, one sister, and one half brother. They are unsure if Plato was the eldest. They believe that
he was since he inherited his grandfather s name, and tradition was that the eldest son would be
named after the grandfather. Plato s father, Ariston, was a direct descendant from kings of Athens
and Messina. His mother, Perictione, was a descendant of an athenian ... Show more content on

One of Plato s greatest works was The Republic . The Republic was Plato s defence of justice and
what he thinks is the best form of government. The piece of writing brings up two questions that
are still relevant today. The questions brought up by this piece of writing were what is justice? ,
and what is the relation between justice and being happy? . Some of Plato s other pieces of
writing include Meno. The Meno was written in an attempt to define what virtue was. Another
one of Plato s well known dialogue was Symposium. Plato wrote Symposium to show the purpose
and nature of love. Plato wrote many more dialogues, that people still read to this day. Plato spent
his final years of his life at the academy. Around 348 BCE Plato died in Athens. He was around
eighty years old when he passed away. No one knows how exactly he passed away. Some people
say he passed away peacefully in his sleep due to old age. Others say he died while attending a
wedding.
Plato s accomplishments still live on to this day through the idea of platonism. His ideas impact
religion, science, government, and philosophy in today s world. His philosophy along with the
philosophy of Socrates and Aristotle helped form a basic idea of western philosophical traditions.
Plato s dialogues also affected life in today s society. The Republic is a good example of the effect
plato s dialogues left, because it helped

Investigation Of Turkish Students Mathematics...
Investigation of Turkish Students Mathematics Performance based on PISA 2012 Objective The
purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between selected student and school level
variables and mathematics performance of Turkish students using PISA 2012 dataset. Two
research questions were investigated: (1) How much do schools vary in their mean mathematics
achievement in Turkey? (2) Which student and school level variables are associated with
students mathematics performance in Turkey based on PISA 2012 results? Theoretical
Framework PISA is a 3 year cycle of international assessment, which has been organized by
Organization for Economic Co operation and Development (OECD) since 2000. The primary aim
of the PISA assessments is to determine the extent to which young people, who are 15 years old,
have acquired the wider knowledge and skills that they will need in their real life challenges with
considering a literacy perspective in reading, mathematics, and science. According to PISA 2012
overall results, Turkey ranked 44th, 42nd, and 43rd positions across the 65 countries in
mathematics, reading and science, respectively (OECD, 2014b). In this present study, some student
and school variables were chosen to determine if there is any effect on students mathematics
performance in Turkey. Gender is the first variable coming to mind when someone starts an
educational research because there are not any certain statements; therefore, the influences of
gender on the

Taking a Look at the Kangaroo Rat
Have you ever had questions about a certain species of animal? What about the Kangaroo Rat?
What about, more specifically, the Desert Kangaroo Rat? Why does it live in the desert with fur?
Won t it get hot? Have no fear because most of your questions will be answered right here. What
does the Desert Kangaroo Ratlook like? Well, to answer that question, this species is cute in that
weird sort of way. It has a long tail with brown fur. Their two big feet have four toes each, and
they have really short arms. Along with their sandy brown fur, they have white stomachs. And on
top of it all, they have a cute small head with big, black eyes, and small ears. What does the
Kangaroo Rat eat? A small animal like this doesn t really need a feast. This species of animal eats
mostly only seeds and beans from the desertplants. Only sometimes does it eat grass and insects,
but not very often. I mean, after all, it is really small. The Desert Kangaroo Rat obviously lives in
the desert. It s in the name. This species of animal occupies the desertsof Southern Australia. Now,
inside of Southern Australia is a variety of bushes and scrubs, where these rats take refuge. They
also tend to live in shallow impressions in the sand, so that they can hop up and get to work after
a well deserved rest. I mean, it has to do something! The Rat Kangaroo isn t much of a predator to
anything, unless you count seeds. Typically being an herbivore, it really doesn t have any offenses.
But it does have

Korsgaard Normative Questions
** The normative question
Korsgaard frames the question that is central to ethics as the `normative question . An answer to the
normative question, in Korsgaard s view must be tailored to address someone in the first person
perspective, since the question arises from the first person perspective.
Korsgaard writes that it is helpful to imagine the normative question as the question that is asked
when moralities demands are difficult:
#+BEGIN_QUOTE
When you want to know what a philosopher s theory of normativity is, you must place yourself in
the position of an agent on whom morality is making a difficult claim. You then ask the
philosopher: must I really do this? Why must I do it? And his answer is his answer to the normative
question.[fn:176]
#+END_QUOTE
Korsgaard uses this idea as a kind of thought experiment to see whether a particular approach to
morality is convincing. In /Sources of Normativity/ she discusses several approaches to morality
and asks whether their answer to the normative question would be `appealing to an agent in this ...

According to a constructivist reading of Kant, morality is grounded in the will or practical reason
and particular moral obligations are constructed by practical reason. The fact that the moral law is
a demand of reason or rationality provides a justification for subjecting ourselves to morality:
moralities demands are rational. At the same time Korsgaard argues that it explains why we are
motivated to act in accordance with the moral law: the moral law is a demand of our own will.
Constructivism is tied to what Korsgaars names the Kantian `ethics of autonomy . The main idea of
the Kantian ethics of autonomy that Korsgaard defends is the idea that morality is not grounded in
something that is external to practical reason or the will, but rather that it is grounded in the will or
practical reason

An Influential Psychologists Of All Times
One of the most influential psychologists of all times is Burrhus Frederic Skinner, also known as
B. F. Skinner, who was born on March 20, 1904 in a small town called Susquehanna,
Pennsylvania. B. F. Skinner was raised in a warm and wealthy home. His father was a lawyer
and his mother was a stay at home mom. In Skinner s early childhood, it was noted that he and his
younger brother, Edward James, liked to build things such as arrows and shack in the woods, to
name a few ( ). These construction skills would enable an older Skinner to build the equipment
invented for his psychologyresearch. As he grew up, he went through all twelve grades at the same
school, graduating with less than eight students. Within these years, he developed an interest in art
and literature through drawing and later reading Shakespeare (Dews, 1970).
In Skinner s higher education, he attended Hamilton College in New York, where he majored in
English Literature to become a writer ( ). Soon after college, Skinner tried to write his first
psychological novel but failed to do so because of family trouble and lack of success. After
becoming discontent with his literary skills, and inspired by John B. Watson and Ivan Pavlov s
Behaviorism, he obtained a degree in psychology from Harvard University in 1928. Soon after,
Skinner graduated with his PhD from Harvard in 1931, which led him to the development of his
influential operant behaviorism ( ).

Smartphone Tablet industry from 2011 onwards
From 2011onwards, there was advancement of technology in Apple Company under the leadership
and involvement of Steve Jobs. Although he had delegated the day to day operations to Tim Cook,
he was still involved in the company s major decision making. The company unveiled iCloud,
which was an online storage facility for photos, music and files. Iphone 4S was introduced later on
October 2011, which had 1080p video recording camera, an A4 dual chip with high capability, cloud

The customers bargaining power is another force that presents a competitive pressure on companies
in this industry. Customers are more interested on the brand identity with much preference on the
emergent ones. They tend to be loyal to price elasticity and hence companies are left to compete in
cutting costs. Obviously, consumers will go for products with low prices and therefore companies
such as Apple would not risk being expensive. The more expensive a company s products are the
less the number of buyers received. Immediately a substitute enters the market, everything to do
with the existing products becomes competitive. Consumers are left to make considerate choices
between the product and its substitutes. The Smartphone Tablet industry is characterized by
emergent of various brands within short ranges of time. These brands become substitutes and
affect the pricing strategy adversely. This is a force that Apple and the other companies have to
deal with as far as their survival in the market is concerned.
A barrier to entry is another competitive force that Apple and other companies endure. The
possibilities of entering a particular market are limited by factors such as technology, time and cost
advantage, economies of scale and knowledge. If a certain market is characterized by a certain
level of technology, companies

Can Money Buy Happiness Analysis
In the informational text, Can Money Buy Happiness? , the central idea is by spending money
unselfishly, can bring joy to both to giver and the receiver . For instance, in the informational text,
Professor Elizabeth Dunn conducted a research in 2008. She gave cash to two groups of students.
She told one group to spend cash on themselves and the other to spend it on someone else. Which
group turned out out be happier? The group that spent the money on others. (Scope Magazine pg
26) According to the research, it is clear that spending money unselfishly brings joy to oneself, but
does the character Jerry from, President Cleveland, Where Are You? agree with the central idea of
Can Money Buy Happiness? Jerry would probably have disagreed with the central idea.
First of all, Jerry spent the money to bring Armand, his older brother, to a dance. This could be
confirmed in the text when Armand was dressed up in a suit with new shoes when before he
only had some old shoes that were falling apart. Where he got the suit? It was from Jerry. I
needed that five dollars it was an emergency (Comier pg 29) Jerry spent the five dollars on
Armand, although Jerry feels regretful. Jerry spent money on Armand for love, even though he
never agreed with love. I was glad I had never become involved with love love that bought
desperation to your eyes, that caused you to write letters you did not plan to send. (Comier pg 28)
Jerry also muttered Love when he saw Armand, Jerry obviously regretted his decision but at the
same time he thought he would feel happy.
Secondly, Jerry may have not felt happy because he was forced to spend the money unselfishly.
Think about it, he never felt like giving the money to Armand for the cause of love but it felt he
forced himself to give him the money, or like someone gave him a command to do it. This is
implied when Armand thought Jerry a lesson. It s all right, he (Armand) said gently. Maybe you
learned something. The words were gentle but they held a curious dignity, the dignity remaining
even when his voice cracked on the last syllable. (Cormain pg 27) This was probably
foreshadowing the part in the story Jerry felt like he was commanded or forced to

Ufo(Unidentified Flying Object)
The Oxford English Dictionary defines a UFO as An unidentified flying object; a flying saucer .
The word was first used in print by Donald Keyhoe in 1953.[1] The acronym UFO was coined by
Capt. Edward J. Ruppelt, who headed Project Blue Book, then the USAF s official investigation
of UFOs. He wrote, Obviously the term flying saucer is misleading when applied to objects of
every conceivable shape and performance. For this reason the military prefers the more general, if
less colorful, name: unidentified flying objects. UFO (pronounced Yoo foe) for short. [2] Other
phrases that were used officially and that predate the UFO acronym include flying flapjack , flying

An example is Halley s Comet, which was recorded first by Chinese astronomers in 240 BC and
possibly as early as 467 BC. Such sightings throughout history often were treated as supernatural
portents, angels, or other religious omens. Some current day UFO researchers have noticed
similarities between some religious symbols in medieval paintings and UFO reports[21] though
the canonical and symbolic character of such images is documented by art historians placing
more conventional religious interpretations on such images.[22] On January 25, 1878, The
Denison Daily News noted that John Martin, a local farmer, had reported seeing a large, dark,
circular object resembling a balloon flying at wonderful speed. Martin, according to the
newspaper account, said it appeared to be about the size of a saucer, the first known use of the
word saucer in association with a UFO.[23] On February 28, 1904, there was a sighting by three
crew members on the USS Supply 300 miles west of San Francisco, reported by Lt. Frank
Schofield, later to become Commander in Chief of the Pacific Battle Fleet. Schofield wrote of
three bright red egg shaped and circular objects flying in echelon formation that approached
beneath the cloud layer, then changed course and soared above the clouds, departing directly away
from the earth after two to three minutes. The largest had an apparent size of about six suns,

the species, for examples in crops and food. Since from 1960, there are many countries developing
using genetic engineering crops. Genetic engineering crops bring a lot of benefit to society, it can
fight with hunger world, it has better quality and it is good for environment. However, there are
also many negative issue involved in genetic engineering crops such as it can harm the
environment, it can be detrimental to human health and it is not safe.
Using the information collected from different source such as interview with doctor or science

Political Parties In California
Weak Parties, Strong Partisanship California is known for being a very liberal blue state.
California is almost guaranteed to vote democratically in a presidential election and much of the
country considers themselves democratic. The areas that are more conservative in California are
also very adamant in their beliefs. The two major political parties in Californiaare extremely
polarized and have extremely high partisanship. The parties themselves however are extremely
weak. The idea that parties can have high levels of partisanship but be weak is extremely
confusing. It has much to do with the way California s politics have been established and the level
of direct democracyin the state. Naturally, political parties tend to be distinct... Show more content

Most local elections in California are nonpartisan. A nonpartisan election is an election in which
the parties of the candidates are not printed on the ballots. Although the candidates may identify
with one of the political parties, their preference is not shown on the ballot during the election.
This causes candidates to have to work harder for their votes and make their agendas known to
the public rather than relying on their political party to get them elected. In order for politicians
to move up in the political ladder, they must have contributed greatly to their local office and
have a decent resume to get them through. In a partisan election, candidates may be able to rely
on his or her partisanship to get them elected. For example in a largely democratic area, a
candidate may simply be elected just because his name is next to the word democrat on the ballot.
This in turn strengthens the parties role because that candidate would owe the party for his or her
election. Since California holds nonpartisan elections, candidates owe nothing to the party for their
success during an election. They are able to move up in politics based on the impact they had
made during their previous role. Although a large amount of the state offices has partisan elections,
by the time a candidate has made it to a state election they have made a name for themselves
without relying on the party to speak for them. Therefore, even

Even to this day, women have not reached maximum equality, but the landmark Supreme Court case
Roe v. Wade has helped the women s equality movement drastically take a step in the right

still is entitled to their basic rights, however pregnant women were not. Their first, fourth, fifth,
ninth, and fourteenth amendment rights were violated and were not addressed until Jane Roe

Henry Wade represented the Texas state law to prohibit abortion. Eventually, the case came to a
close and was decided on January 22, 1973. Ever since the case of Roe v. Wade, there have been
approximately 1.5 million legal abortions each year (Edwards III, Wattenberg, and Lineberry
131). During the years leading up to and after 1973, there were numerous events and situations
that occurred. Before 1965, the idea of right to privacy was barely used, but Griswold v.
Connecticut (1965) changed that. The case involved a Connecticut law forbidding the use of
contraceptives (Edwards III, Wattenberg, and Lineberry 131). A doctor and a family planner were
arrested for distributing the use of contraceptives for couples in need. They were eventually
brought to court by the state and were convicted. The case was taken to the Supreme Court and
was later decided that everyone is entitled to their right to privacy. This set the precedent for Roe v.
Wade because without Griswold v. Connecticut, the decision might be completely different than
what it is now. A court case called Rust v. Sullivan was related to abortion. It specified that family
planning services receiving federal funds could not provide women any counseling regard abortion
(Edwards III, Wattenberg, and Lineberry 131). This decision created public scrutiny as the decision
would violate the First Amendment. President Clinton eventually lifted the ban on abortion
counseling as it

The Man From A Peddler s Family
Disagreements Turn Into Agreements
People disagree often when it comes to politics. We are all entitled to our own opinions. Some of
us choose to voice our opinions, while others keep their opinions to themselves. The relationship
between Zhu Yanda (Zhu) and Gao in The Man from a Peddler s family, shows a very typical
disagreement on politics.
Not only is this story about politics, there are also hidden themes throughout that are not easily
discernable by some. One of those hidden themes is friendship and effects the relationship has
on the process of changing one party s original opinion. Both Gao and Zhu see the world
differently, yet despite their differences they still remain friends. One follows all the rules of the
government, and the other walks to the beat of his own drum when it comes to politics. It is the
difference of opinions we have that keeps the world running smoothly. Our difference of opinions
is what makes us grow, and sometimes we change our opinions for the better. When we disagree
and argue we make one another better people making one another see outside their box. These two
characters grow and change by the end of the story by showing each other a different view on
government. They both end up understanding the other person s point of view. This story displays
political themes and themes about friendship, disagreements, and changing of friend s opinions.

Allegorical Meanings of LOTF.
Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, is basically represented by three big allegories as a whole;
Political, Historical, and Religious. The allegorical meaning for the novel differs from each
category of allegory. For political, later in the book, there are two different clashing tribes
representing a different type of government. The Historical allegory compares the main characters
such as Simon, Piggy, or Ralph to famous or infamous historical people. Lastly, the meaning of
the religious allegory is that the island is the Garden of Eden and the boys are Adam and Eve. For

The first thing Ralph does when he gets to the island is take off his clothes and take a bath in the
lagoon. Ralph inspected the whole thirty yards carefully and then plunged in. The water was
warmer than his blood and he might have been swimming in a huge bath. (Golding, 12) This
gesture relates to the act of Baptism and the innocence of Adam and Eve. Later in the book, the
boys become more savage than civilised trying to find the beast, or snake thing when it is really
just hiding inside of them. This is just like how Adam and Eve were fooled by the satan that
disguised himself as a serpent. The Devil figure, or the Satan is another religious allegory hidden

Beelzebub which is another name for Satan or Devil. This name is from the Canaanite Baal
which means Lord and so he is known for lord of the flies. To expand even more, the boys on the

The prospector s strategy defines a company as flexible and adaptive to environmental changes

What Is The Evil In Lord Of The Flies
There is darkness inside everyone. Evil, malice, wickedness. Society attempts to stomp out these
innate traits. In his critically acclaimed novel, Lord of the Flies, William Golding explores what
happens to a person when the pressures of society are removed. A group of British boys are
stranded on an island without any adults. They form a society that slowly falls apart as half of
the boys, led by Jack, are drawn into the savage life accepted on the island. Ralph s group
attempts to remain civil, but their success is questionable. Jack s group becomes more and more
brutal and savage, and three of the boys die. Golding wrote this book as an allegoryfor the
psychoanalytic theory of the personality, the Id, Ego, and Superego. The Id is the evil part,
driven by base instincts and desires. The Superego strives for morality and rules, and the Ego
attempts to balance the two out. Golding strongly believed that humans at their most base level
are evil, a theory developed through his life experiences. Golding fought in WW II, and is quoted
saying World War II was the turning point for me. I began to see what people were capable of
doing. ( William Golding3) Golding believed that without society people would revert entirely to
the Id, foregoing the Superego. He expressed this message in Lord of the Flies by characterizing
different boys as the different parts of the personality. He explored what happens to the personality
through the development of these characters. Golding

Comparing August 2026 And There Will Come Soft Rains
Ray Bradbury s short story August 2026: There Will Come Soft Rains shares several recurring
themes and points with Sara Teasdale s poem, There Will Come Soft Rains. Bradbury s story
describes a lone house in the remains of a futuristic city, destroyed by a nuclear war. Teasdale s
poem states the theory that if humankind were to disintegrate, it would hardly be remembered, let
alone missed. Both works share similar elements revolving around rain, and mankind s passing
going unnoticed. Though they build off of each other in this way, these pieces also differ in a few
areas, such as the belief that mankind or the means of its demolition will be forgotten by all entities.
The similarities and differences between the poem and the short storyhighlight the central themes in
both pieces.
In both creations, rain is an important recurring component. In Ray Bradbury s story, the first
reference to rain is in the very beginning, when the weather machine reports, Rain, rain, go away;

agree to a certain extent that if humankind were to come to an end, there would be little or no

the theory that humankind would be forgotten entirely was posed by the poem, and only partially
agreed upon by the short story. The other point that was different between the two pieces was the
speculation that the destruction of mankind itself would go unremembered as well. Both pieces,
though differing in a few primary opinions, worked well to accentuate both the specific and more

The Role Of The Hero In Paradise Lost
Critics abroad have argued about who the hero is of John Milton s Paradise Lost: Satan, Adam
or Christ, the Son? Since Milton s overall theme stated in the opening lines of Book I is to relate
Man s first disobedience and to justify the ways of God to men , Adam must be regarded as the
main hero. John M. Steadman supports this view in an essay on Paradise Lost: It is Adam s action
which constitutes the argument of the epic. Steadman continues: The Son and Satan embody
heroic archetypes and that, through the interplay of the infernal and celestial strategies, Milton
represents Satan s plot against man and Christ s resolution to save him as heroic enterprises.
Christ and Satan are therefore epic machines. (268 272) Although Satan may be an epic
machine, he is best portrayed as the tragic anti hero of Paradise Lost or, at the very least, a main
character who possesses the stature and attributes which enable him to achieve tragic status. In
the Greek tradition, the essential components of tragedy are admiration, fear and pity for the
hero , who has to display a tragic weakness or flaw in his character, which will lead to his
downfall. It might be argued that the flaws in Satan s character are such that we should feel no
admiration, fear or pity for him, yet he can be seen to inspire these emotions. Satan s tragic flaws
are pointed out in Book I. They are envy, pride, and ambition towards self glorification. Satan s
pride, in particular, is stressed throughout

Multiple Signs Of Infection, Retinal Vascular Sheathing...
Our patient presented with multiple signs of infection, which can t initially be pinpointed to one
disease alone. The three important signs to initially address and understand the science behind are
perivasculitis, retinal vascular sheathing and retinal hemorrhages. All three medical definitions
appear straightforward and all very similar, but the combination of the three leads to a serious
diagnosis and urgency for this patient.
Perivasculitis is an inflammation of a sheath surrounding the tissue 1. In class we discussed the
differences between perivasculitis and periflabitis. Perivasculitis should be white because of the
inflammation and the white blood cells then spilling out. The Prefix peri means around, or on the
outside of the tissue. Retinal vascular sheathing is sheathing or cuffing of blood vessels and
vitreous cells . The swelling or cuffing of blood vessels in the retinal layer is a serious condition
and is often associated with vasculitis. Finally, a retinal hemorrhage is abnormal bleeding of the
vessels in the retina 2. Retinal hemorrhages can be caused for a variety of reasons such as
injuries like forceful blows or accidents and falls, as well as adverse health conditions. We know
that the loss of vision can be largely attributed to the excess debris that is currently located in the
eye, the debris being blood that is leaking out. Our case states that he has no previous trauma

After the abolishment of Slavery by President Lincoln, previous slaves were now able to live their

Though the boys were physically coerced to get a confession out of the them, all that mattered
was they admitted to a crime they had not committed. After accusations of this rape made its
way throughout the neighborhood, a group of white men started a mob and headed to the local
jail to lynch the three young men who were being held. Upon arrival to the jail, they found a
sheriff called Willis McCall. Mr. McCall was able to turn away the first wave of the mob but a
second mob came around later on. This mob was controlled by the notorious Ku Klux Klan who
were adamant on refusing to have the African American men go to trial and would not permit
the white people of their country to become a mongrel race . Mr. McCall was not sure how to

Investigation Of The Inquiry Process Essay
The ability to question, be curious, and inquire is hardwired into the human brain. Everyone is
born with the need and capacity to inquire. The inquiry process is open ended, explores
information, and helps gather evidence in order to construct a valid conclusion as well as to gain
knowledge. The process of inquiry is an effective way to attain necessary knowledgeand
understanding of a questionor problem. Undoubtedly, the inquiry process is a strong foundation
upon which you can begin a successful career, maintain a healthy lifestyle, gain knowledge, as well
as valuable experiences.
The most important part, and the first step, of the inquiry process is to ask questions. Asking
questions is never a negative thing to do, although you must be aware of your surroundings and
make sure the context in which you ask a question is appropriate. This step of the inquiry
process includes engineering a list of questions to help you narrow the what type of career path
you would like to pursue. Next in the inquiry process is career exploration. This step includes
conducting intensive research and examination into career choices, and determining which one
best suits you best based on the questions asked in step one. The third step in the inquiry process
is gathering evidence. You should look for relevant pieces of evidence that support why your
possible career paths are most beneficial for you, and how they assist you in reaching your career
goals. Sufficient evidence would include

the divorce rate been affected?
As stated in our text, various factors can bind married couples together, such as economic
interdependencies, legal, social and moral constraints, relationship, and amongst other things. In the
recent years some of these factors have diminished their strengths. The modern generation sees
marriage in a different perspective altogether. Individuals today feel they are stable independently,
they do not need to rely on their spouse for emotional or financial support. Many are career driven

The Hustle And Bustle Of Starbucks Case Study
The Hustle and Bustle of Starbucks
It is approximately eleven o clock in the morning on a warm Monday morning. Twenty five to
thirty people fill the area. Students and faculty continue to stream in, looking for their morning
fix, whether that be a coffee with an extra shot of espresso or a Starbucks Refresher with
lemonade instead of water. The line wraps around the corner of the counter and outside and to
the right into the library hallway. Some folks look tired; possibly from a long weekend or maybe
a late night studying the previous day. Some are wide awake and upbeat as though they received a
good night s rest and has a fairly easy weekend.
The atmosphere is busy and rushed yet is oddly soothing. A smooth jazz song plays over the
speaker above. The smell of fresh brewed coffee and espresso beans fills the air. Baristas call out
names as orders are completed, Britany, Taylor, Drew, Melissa. The baristas are focused, not
wavering from their tasks as they fill orders; some complicated and some just a simple iced coffee.
The wait time is anywhere from fifteen to forty five minutes. Many people stand with inpatients;
tapping their feet and faces expressing discontent.
A table of girls sit in the back corner discussing the night before. One girl mentions not getting
enough sleep due to being up late studying for an exam she has at one o clock today. Another girl
talks about being really stressed out. She mentions an exam in the next couple days and two
papers due at the end of the week. The mention of something in her personal life, the main point
of stress, sweeps her lips but is said in a hushed tone so that only the people directly around her
are aware of the topic. Another girl in the cluster talks about how her drink is not being
completed fast enough, throwing a few profanities in her statement. She is seemingly oblivious
the many orders the baristas are trying to complete all at once. None of the girls surrounding her
try to tell her she is being insensitive, they all just agree with her and go on about their
conversations. People file in waiting for their Tapingo orders, trying to avoid the wait of the line.
However, the wait is not any shorter.
Many girls look comfortable, dressed in leggings and a

However, researchers failed to develop a clear idea of an authentic leader. In addition, in the past

The Role of Women in Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Whether an author is conscious of the fact or not, a fictional work cannot avoid reflecting the
political, social, economic, and religious background of the author. Therefore, regardless of
Frankenstein s categorization being that of science fiction, Mary Shelley reveals her own fears and
thoughts, and, as a result, reveals a great deal about the time and place in which she wrote. She

Conversely, in parts that Shelley wrote herself, she says that book was conceived in a dream in
which she saw a pale student of unhallowed arts putting together the hideous phantasm of a man.
She continues, the idea so possessed my mind that a thrill of fear ran through me, and I wished to
exchange the ghastly image of my fancy for the realities around. Ultimately, the entire story
symbolically represents some of the pressures on a woman writer during the Romantic period in
Europe and Shelley s critique of the culture that has created her but sees her as its monster.
Besides the representation of the author, the Romantic view of women is evident in the general
weakness of the female characters throughout the story. There is only one main female character,
Elizabeth Lavenza Frankenstein, the more than sister of Victor Frankenstein. In addition to the lack
of women characters, Elizabeth is developed as kind, devoted, mild mannered and sweet. Each of
these adjectives could also be used to describe the other female characters, including Caroline,
Victor s mother, Justine, Caroline s adopted child, and Agatha DeLacey, the neighbor s daughter.
Additionally, women in nineteenth century Romantic Europe often catered to men, even if it was

Examples Of Inequalities In Harrison Bergeron
Inequality is something that humanity has faced since the beginning of time; it seems like it
will never be worked out. There is really no way for everyone in the whole world to be equal no
matter how much work is put into it. Inequality in Harrison Bergeron was tackled in grand way.
There were many ways that gifted people were brought down to reach the level of those with
special needs. The way inequality was handed to such an extent makes one wonder why certain
equalities were held higher than others and what went on for there to be 213 amendments. In the
story, George Bergeron has intelligence way above normal, while Hazel Bergeron had perfectly
normal intelligence which means that she couldn t think about anything for too long. Those with
superior intelligence had their mental handicap that kept them from thinking for too long so they
would be on the level of the average people. The way that intelligence is shut down makes one

Persuasive Essay On The Use Of Technology
How do most people view the functions of the world? Is there a consensus on how certain things are
handled, or utilized? Today, there are new temptations, and functions that were nonexistent three
decades ago. Such as the advancements in technology, and communication, an unfair economy that
bounces up and down, and lastly, a government that plays a major role in the daily lives of
Americans. With this, I will create a utopia, that cancels out the negatives of these changes.
In the past decade, technology has drastically changed our daily lives. We are now able to
communicate with one another, regardless of the physical boundaries that surround us.
However, these advancements in technology, have caused new issues that did not previously
exists. In my utopia, I would not ban the usage of technology, but I would regulate how is it
used. Today, there is Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat etc. These apps dominate the
minds of daily Americans. With these apps, people can communicate with one another, without
directly pointing out a specific person. This could be used as a positive tool but, in most cases it
is used negatively. Such as, to bully or tear down others. For example, on Instagram the pictures
that get the most likes, are the ones who compare people to one another. The caption is usually,
Me VS you . Social media has created a perfect platform of falsity. To correct this false hood, and
forms of bullying, my utopia would create new apps, that strictly regulate what is being posted.
Technology would be used in its greatest, positive potential. Efficient communication with others,
would be its one and only offer. Citizens would still be able to post, and access apps created for
my utopia. Their time spent on the internet though, would be limited per day. This would be to
ensure face to face social skills, that would be required in my utopia.

aims to determine if individuals diagnosed with ADHD have motor impairments when completing
tasks involving the cerebellum. The researchers hypothesized that the cerebellar function will
negatively impact the motor performances of adults diagnosed with ADHD, or adults with
ADHD like symptoms, when compared to controls. Method: In this study, there were 91
participants, 49 of which were female and 42 were male, aged 18 to 30 years old. Part A of the
ASRS, which is an ADHD self report scale, was the diagnostic measure used to determine if an...

This phase determined if the participant continued to compensate for the rotation when it was
removed. In each phase, reaction time, movement time, and angle at maximum velocity were
recorded. Reaction time was the time it took the participant to begin moving the cursor when the
trial began. Movement time was the time it took for the cursor to move from the starting circle to
the target circle, and angle at maximum velocity was measured because, according to Kurdziel et al.
(2014), the point of maximum velocity represents a point in each trial when the participant
corrected for their error (p. 1148). Results: Baseline did not show significant differences for any of
the 3 measures. In the adaption phase, reaction time also did not show a significant effect when
comparing the ADHD and control groups. When considering movement time during the adaption
phase, results indicate that movement time gradually decreased throughout phases. Also, results
showed that individuals with ADHD symptoms had slower correction rates. Regarding the angle at
maximum velocity for ADHD and control groups, data showed that participants did adapt to the 30
degree rotation; however, the ADHD group was significantly slower when adapting. Post adaption
phase results show that reaction time did not show significant differences. Also, in this phase,
results for movement time and angle at maximum velocity for ADHD and control groups did not
differ. Overall,

Social Media And Instant Messenger
Sitting on the train, I was aimlessly staring out of the window with my headphones in blasting
my music at full volume. I was heading into the City for the first time and as if that wasn t scary
enough on its own; I was going to meet my brother. The same brother I didn t know existed until
nine months ago. It had started when I received a letter in the post, which in itself was a
surprise. It had taken a couple of weeks to get over the shock and come to terms with the fact I
had a brother. Over the following months we had spoken to each other through various forms of
social media and instant messenger, getting to know each other more. So far I had learnt that his
name was Michael Fuentes but that he preferred to go by Mike and that he was two years
younger than me at twenty eight. He fitted the gangster stereotype perfectly, but the more I got
to know him the more I disagreed with the label. He had long hair, like me, but he had shaved
the sides so it was technically a Mohawk. I was also really surprised by his voice as it was a lot
softer than I had imagined based on his appearance and the small amount of information I had
prior to speaking to him. I also knew that he had both arms covered in tattoos as was his neck
from the pictures I had seen online although he had told me that he had more over his torso and
legs. I could feel my heart rate speeding up as the train was slowing down, knowing I was just
minutes away from facing my only living blood relative. The train

Carnegie Hall Critique
Carnegie Hall invites some of the best young musicians to join Christopher O Riley on stage to
perform. Twelve year old Conrad Tao was the first guest welcomed to the stage in the season 1
episode that I watched. Tao lives in New York very close to Carnegie Hall. His performance
automatically jumped him into his piece. His choice of musicwas Kreisler s Tambourin Chinois.
The young player has a lot of style with a straight face while doing so. Christopher O Riley
surprised me when he was using a iPad to automatically flip the pages of his sheet music.
Technology being used in this performance just surprised me. After Tao s performance O Riley
ask him if he has any other interests besides music. Conrad has a love for rollercoasters. Between
riding and researching them, he basically knows all about them. The next gifted musician
welcomed to stage is a clarinet player from Spartanburg, South Carolina named Nicholas Graham.
I can relate to his instrument very much. He reminds me of my older sister growing up playing the
clarinet. Nicholas performs the first part of the fantasy piece by Schumann. There was a lot of
reasoning why he choose this specific piece. He shares with the audience that he heard the song

This time Carnegie Hall had something special for him. The show had him his very own
personalized Jeopardy game. The grand prize for answering two out of three questions was a
pair of From the Top signature tube socks. Tao successfully answers all three questions correctly
and wins his pair of tube socks. I hope that the tube socks are just a gag prize. The main reason
he was brought back to the stage was for a final performance. His final performance is a piece he
composed himself. Conrad and his friends play Saturday Morning Tango. The three of them
worked very hard to perform the performance that was done. The tune sounded as if it belonged in
a James Bond film, which I enjoyed a

Advocacy Competences of School Counselors
Advocacy is one of the major roles for professional school counselors. The concept of advocacy
is the tradition of professional counselors, but the role of advocacy in school counseling was not
valued until the recent times. The purpose of this paper is to give a reflection about the article
on school counseling in order to show and describe the advocacy competencies of school
counselors. The article was written by Jerry Trusty and Duane Brown. The article was set to
provide a structure that helps to conceptualize advocacy in order to develop advocacy
competencies. School counselors have a key role in advocating for academic success for each
student in the school. The advocacy makes the counselors have a leadership role in encouraging
and promoting school reforms. The advocacy efforts of school counselors aim to eliminate
obstacles preventing the development of students and to create chances for all students to learn. It
also aims to ensure students have access to the school curriculum that fits their needs. School
counselors collaborate with other people within and outside the school to assist students meet their
learning needs. In addition, advocacy promotes positive and systematic change in schools (Trusty
Brown, 2005). The advocacy competencies according to Trusty and Brown s article were designed
from literature reviews, personal experiences as school counselors. They categorized them into
three groups, that is, counselor s dispositions, knowledge and skills.

The First Years Of My Life
For the first fifteen years of my life, I never referred to myself as a firm believer in love at first
sight. People often tossed around the word love like it was nothing, but I knew that I had never
truly been in love before. This all changed about a month before my sixteenth birthday when I fell
in love with the windy city. In May of 2015, the band took a four day trip to Chicago. I was thrilled
for the excursion because I had only traveled outside of Kansas a few times. Those vacations
were to the beach, which is nothing like the bustling metropolis of Chicago. I had never truly
experienced the city life before, so I was beyond ready for this new adventure. When I arrived to
Chicago, I expected to see sights that were familiar to me, like in Kansas City. Hundreds of
people traveling in different directions, towering skyscrapers, and shops were all around the city.
When we were just a few miles outside from Chicago, I could see the whole skyline in the
distance. I was completely fascinated by the hundreds of skyscrapers that lined the city, and the
sunrise that turned the sky different shades of orange, yellow, and pink. The views that I
encountered while first entering Chicago were breathtaking. Throughout the whole trip, I
experienced multiple new sights, smells, and sounds. As the trip came to an end, I realized that I
had developed a true love for the natural and urban beauty of Chicago, and that I eventually want
to call this place home in a few years.

background in assessing the author on the other hand, which he considered tyrannical . According
to Barthes statement from the essay History or Literature? in on Racine, proves the above
mentioned argument, in which he initially assumed that text is a grave of author when text came
out, then the reader was born which is also stated in the the Death of the Author , then Barthes
criticised that old critic considered author genius meaning that the creator is so sophisticated. He
also signified another fact about classic thinkers that they disregarded the history of the writer
which left nothing to the writer since history shaped gracious literary aspect of the writer, if they
are emptied from them, then writer will stay just as sculptor which can ultimately be defined as a

Foucault s essay tended to dismiss the author from his position with respect to analyse the texts
while Barthes granted all the interpretative responsibly to the reader. Both theorists apprehended the
notion of author has no authority in directing the interpretation of their writings. Foucault, in his
essay What Is an Author? argues that the critics should not evaluate the text in relation with its
author, instead, they should analyse the text itself in the light of the its structure, basic form and its
design architecture. His brief description of author is just a discursive person. Foucault commented
on himself in his essay for being focused on a specific subject, he justifies that it is not because they
were interesting to him but because the subject may have something to do his personal life. He
affirms that his experience with the things that surround him would help him better recognize or
understand them when he does any theoretical work (Mills, 11). Foucault interlinks author and
work , in way that author s text is counted as his work thus he argues that if author is

He never calls me by my name; it s always woman or, on especially bad days, pig . When he isn t

When I was 15, I was given an arranged marriage to a 32 year old fan maker named Abd Al
Rashid. My family anticipated that now I was liberated from the poverty stricken life that had
plagued us for centuries. I felt anything but liberated. Tension gripped my stomach as the day
crept closer and eventually it came. It was the day that I would leave my family and everything I

snowy wildflowers and a shimmering hijab. She finished by clothing me in lovely ... Show more

I quickly ran to the fountain, my heart beating out of my chest. The fountain was quaintly sitting
under a brilliant sky dotted with stars. I peered into the rippling water. I stared at my jet black hair,

jaw. I had received a hit by a burning frying pan when I overslept a few days back. The American

American organization that was helping and relocating abused Muslim women. He said he
could take me to America. I nodded my agreement, but couldn t stop the tears of joy. We drove a
few hours to a safe house. Many other women were there. Some with a few bruises, and others
missing eyes. We all had similar homes, and none of us could go back. Jack took us to a plane, and
said we would land in America. There were refugee homes prepared for us. I asked if he d come

Poor Countries Remain Poor
When discussing poverty, it is difficult to pinpoint one simple reason that explains why poor
countries remain poor. However, patterns may be drawn when looking at states history during
European colonization. The notion that the existence or absence of European settlers largely
shaped political institutions within states is supported by the two different institution types:
representative institutions and extractive institutions. European settlers promoted their own wants
through strong, representative institutions in colonized states. These states, such as the United
States or Australia, are considered wealthy countries today, whereas today s poor countries,
including the Democratic Republic of Congo and Somalia, were colonized by European settlers as
extractive institutions. In this paper, I will argue that, poor countries remain poor because the weak
political institutions inherited by extractive states under colonial regimes persist, making it difficult
to develop an appropriate relationship between the state and the marketand degree of state
intervention in the economy.
Even though colonial regimes eventually ended, the extractive state s weak political institutions
persisted for three main possibilities, according to Daron Acemoglu. The first possibility he and
coauthors (2001) point to is the fact that setting up institutions that place restrictions on government
power and enforce property rights is costly (1376). When new elites inherit extractive institutions,

The Devastation of the Indies and Movie The Mission
The Mission and Bartolome De Las Casas book, The Devestation of the Indies
Although The Mission and BartolomГ© De Las Casas book, The Devastation of the Indies portray
events that took place over two centuries apart, similar features and effects of colonization are
apparent in each account. Slight differences in viewpoints are evident, such as The Mission s
portrayal of the natives in a more humane fashion, but this goes along with the evolution of time
and the current trend of being politically correct. In other words, people today have broader views
on issues, are more unbiased in their reasoning, and are careful not to offend others. Whether efforts

Similar in theme, Roland JoffГ© s film, The Mission, portrays an eighteenth century South America
in which there are two opposing colonial forces. On one side there are imperialist plunderers , both
Spaniards and the Portuguese, who want to get rich and are ready and willing to utilize any method
possible in order to fulfill their insatiable desire for riches including slavery and the massacre of the
natives. On the other hand, there are Jesuit missionaries who desire to peacefully convert the
natives to Christianity. (Ebert, http://www.suntimes.com/ebert) An interesting connection that can
be made between the life of BartolomГ© De Las Casas and a character in The Mission is with
Robert De Niro s character, Mandosa. At one time Captain Mandosa was in charge of massacres
of natives and owned many slaves, but after he killed his brother out of jealousy for his brother s
lover, he repented his sins by joining the priesthood and helping the mission attain their goals. This
has similarities with how De Las Casas got involved in working for the plight of the Indians.
It can be speculated that The Mission has several sources of influence that culminated in its
production and release in 1986. Since it is not possible for Roland JoffГ©, producer of The
Mission or anyone on his staff to have first hand knowledge of the

Special Education In The 1890s
In order to have a good understanding of Special Educational Needs and how the education system
accommodates for children with SEN, it is important to know how it has developed over the past
hundred or so years.
In 1886, the Egerton Commission was set up to view the educational provision of children who
were deaf, blind or dumb. By 1888, the Egerton Commission had begun including the education of
those from ‘exceptional circumstances’ who would appear to need
‘exceptional methods of educationâ€events which unfolded around this time had a
large impact on how special needs was viewed and still affects special education needs provision
now. Around this time the idea of segregated education was formed and this is the basis for the

In 1889 it was suggested that children who were considered to be feeble minded children were to
continue to be educated within the mainstream system but within education classes and children
considered to be educable imbeciles were to be educated in special institutions. These
recommendations led to the opening of of special schools in the 1890s.
In 1898, the government expressed a lack of defining criteria for these groups and therefore the
difficulty in defining labels and correct education for children with special education needs. This
led to the Departmental Committee on Defective and Epileptic Children to create the subgroup
‘the ability to earn a living’.Children who were considered as able to earn a living
were children previously labeled as feeble minded whereas children who were imbeciles or idiots
were considered as unable to earn a living.
By 1913, the Board of Education’s Chief Medical Officer decided to group children into
five categories: the mentally normal child, the dull or backward child, the feeble minded child, the
imbecile child, the idiot. This shows that educators were beginning to have a greater understanding
of different abilities. the Board of Educators was also beginning to understand that the lack

Music Therapy In Steve Mencher´s Music And The Brain
Music has always been present in people s lives in various forms, shaping and remolding the ways
that our brains process and function. Because music resonates so deeply with people, it can be
used for various types of physical and mental therapy. Alicia Clair, professor of music education and

She is most widely recognized for her research towards the affect of music on those with Alzheimer

Finding a cure for Alzheimer s is an issue near and dear to my heart, since I ve seen the stress and
pain it can cause a family to go through. I also believe very strongly in the connections that people
can make, maintain, or repair through the help of music. Since the most painful part of Alzheimer
s, in my opinion, is helplessly watching your relative forget who you are, the maintenance of those
connections is incredibly important. Some of my most visceral memories are associated with the
music I listened to with my family when I was a child. Listening to music from my childhood not
only triggers memories in my brain, but also sensory and emotional memories that resonate in a
different part of my brain. Because music can help

  • 2. The Sinking Of The Titanic A ship bigger than the world had ever seen, three years in the making, took less than three hours to sink into the depths of the ocean (Fowler; Build ; Yasuda 6; Sinking ; Interesting ; Hall 38; Stewart 8). In April of 1912, The RMS Titanic hit an iceberg and sank 12,000 feet to the ocean floor. This incident cost the lives of over 1,500 passengers and crew members, over half the total people that had been on board ( Sinking ). The Titanic was the largest ship ever built when it entered service, at 882 feet long, 92 feet wide, and 175 feet high, and was touted as unsinkable (Hall 19,38; Yasuda 5,7; Hopkinson 25; World s ; Stewart 8). The Titanic disaster was a wake up call for many people, average citizens and maritime experts alike (Savage). As a result of the sinking of the so called unsinkable Titanic, exploration into better safety regulations and shipbuilding techniques occurred. Safety regulations in place at the time of the Titanic disaster were outdated and ineffective, leading maritime experts to explore ways to improve them. Prior to the sinking of the Titanic, the 1894 Merchant Shipping Act was the only regulation on how many lifeboats a ship should have. It dictated how many lifeboats a ship needed, the total number of which was based upon that ship s tonnage. The Merchant Shipping Act was 20 years old in 1912, and did not take into account the rapidly increasing size of ships being constructed, since its inception. According to the Merchant ... Plato was born in Athens, Greece during 428 BCE. Some people believe that Plato s real name is Aristocles, if in fact this is true he would have received this name from his grandfather. Historians believed that Plato had two full brother, one sister, and one half brother. They are unsure if Plato was the eldest. They believe that he was since he inherited his grandfather s name, and tradition was that the eldest son would be named after the grandfather. One of Plato s greatest works was The Republic . The Republic was Plato s defence of justice and what he thinks is the best form of government. The piece of writing brings up two questions that are still relevant today. The questions brought up by this piece of writing were what is justice? , and what is the relation between justice and being happy? . Some of Plato s other pieces of writing include Meno. The Meno was written in an attempt to define what virtue was. Another one of Plato s well known dialogue was Symposium. Plato wrote Symposium to show the purpose and nature of love. Plato wrote many more dialogues, that people still read to this day. Plato spent his final years of his life at the academy. Around 348 BCE Plato died in Athens. He was around eighty years old when he passed away. No one knows how exactly he passed away. Some people say he passed away peacefully in his sleep due to old age. Others say he died while attending a wedding. Plato s accomplishments still live on to this day through the idea of platonism. His ideas impact religion, science, government, and philosophy in today s world. His philosophy along with the philosophy of Socrates and Aristotle helped form a basic idea of western philosophical traditions. Plato s dialogues also affected life in today s society. Investigation of Turkish Students Mathematics Performance based on PISA 2012 Objective The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between selected student and school level variables and mathematics performance of Turkish students using PISA 2012 dataset. Two research questions were investigated: (1) How much do schools vary in their mean mathematics achievement in Turkey? (2) Which student and school level variables are associated with students mathematics performance in Turkey based on PISA 2012 results? Theoretical Framework PISA is a 3 year cycle of international assessment, which has been organized by Organization for Economic Co operation and Development (OECD) since 2000. The primary aim of the PISA assessments is to determine the extent to which young people, who are 15 years old, have acquired the wider knowledge and skills that they will need in their real life challenges with considering a literacy perspective in reading, mathematics, and science. According to PISA 2012 overall results, Turkey ranked 44th, 42nd, and 43rd positions across the 65 countries in mathematics, reading and science, respectively (OECD, 2014b). Why does it live in the desert with fur? Won t it get hot? Have no fear because most of your questions will be answered right here. What does the Desert Kangaroo Ratlook like? Well, to answer that question, this species is cute in that weird sort of way. It has a long tail with brown fur. Their two big feet have four toes each, and they have really short arms. Along with their sandy brown fur, they have white stomachs. And on top of it all, they have a cute small head with big, black eyes, and small ears. What does the Kangaroo Rat eat? A small animal like this doesn t really need a feast. This species of animal eats mostly only seeds and beans from the desertplants. Only sometimes does it eat grass and insects, but not very often. I mean, after all, it is really small. The Desert Kangaroo Rat obviously lives in the desert. It s in the name. This species of animal occupies the desertsof Southern Australia. Now, inside of Southern Australia is a variety of bushes and scrubs, where these rats take refuge. They also tend to live in shallow impressions in the sand, so that they can hop up and get to work after a well deserved rest. I mean, it has to do something! The Rat Kangaroo isn t much of a predator to anything, unless you count seeds. Typically being an herbivore, it really doesn t have any offenses. But it does have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An answer to the normative question, in Korsgaard s view must be tailored to address someone in the first person perspective, since the question arises from the first person perspective. Korsgaard writes that it is helpful to imagine the normative question as the question that is asked when moralities demands are difficult: #+BEGIN_QUOTE When you want to know what a philosopher s theory of normativity is, you must place yourself in the position of an agent on whom morality is making a difficult claim. You then ask the philosopher: must I really do this? Why must I do it? And his answer is his answer to the normative question.[fn:176] #+END_QUOTE Korsgaard uses this idea as a kind of thought experiment to see whether a particular approach to morality is convincing. According to a constructivist reading of Kant, morality is grounded in the will or practical reason and particular moral obligations are constructed by practical reason. The fact that the moral law is a demand of reason or rationality provides a justification for subjecting ourselves to morality: moralities demands are rational. At the same time Korsgaard argues that it explains why we are motivated to act in accordance with the moral law: the moral law is a demand of our own will. Constructivism is tied to what Korsgaars names the Kantian `ethics of autonomy . His father was a lawyer and his mother was a stay at home mom. In Skinner s early childhood, it was noted that he and his younger brother, Edward James, liked to build things such as arrows and shack in the woods, to name a few ( ). These construction skills would enable an older Skinner to build the equipment invented for his psychologyresearch. As he grew up, he went through all twelve grades at the same school, graduating with less than eight students. Within these years, he developed an interest in art and literature through drawing and later reading Shakespeare (Dews, 1970). In Skinner s higher education, he attended Hamilton College in New York, where he majored in English Literature to become a writer ( ). Soon after college, Skinner tried to write his first psychological novel but failed to do so because of family trouble and lack of success. Customers are more interested on the brand identity with much preference on the emergent ones. They tend to be loyal to price elasticity and hence companies are left to compete in cutting costs. The more expensive a company s products are the less the number of buyers received. Immediately a substitute enters the market, everything to do with the existing products becomes competitive. For instance, in the informational text, Professor Elizabeth Dunn conducted a research in 2008. She gave cash to two groups of students. She told one group to spend cash on themselves and the other to spend it on someone else. Which group turned out out be happier? The group that spent the money on others. (Scope Magazine pg 26) According to the research, it is clear that spending money unselfishly brings joy to oneself, but does the character Jerry from, President Cleveland, Where Are You? agree with the central idea of Can Money Buy Happiness? Jerry would probably have disagreed with the central idea. First of all, Jerry spent the money to bring Armand, his older brother, to a dance. This could be confirmed in the text when Armand was dressed up in a suit with new shoes when before he only had some old shoes that were falling apart. Where he got the suit? It was from Jerry. I needed that five dollars it was an emergency (Comier pg 29) Jerry spent the five dollars on Armand, although Jerry feels regretful. Jerry spent money on Armand for love, even though he never agreed with love. I was glad I had never become involved with love love that bought desperation to your eyes, that caused you to write letters you did not plan to send. (Comier pg 28) Jerry also muttered Love when he saw Armand, Jerry obviously regretted his decision but at the same time he thought he would feel happy. Secondly, Jerry may have not felt happy because he was forced to spend the money unselfishly. Think about it, he never felt like giving the money to Armand for the cause of love but it felt he forced himself to give him the money, or like someone gave him a command to do it. This is implied when Armand thought Jerry a lesson. It s all right, he (Armand) said gently. Maybe you learned something. The words were gentle but they held a curious dignity, the dignity remaining even when his voice cracked on the last syllable. (Cormain pg 27) This was probably foreshadowing the part in the story Jerry felt like he was commanded or forced to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

California is almost guaranteed to vote democratically in a presidential election and much of the country considers themselves democratic. The areas that are more conservative in California are also very adamant in their beliefs. The two major political parties in Californiaare extremely polarized and have extremely high partisanship. The parties themselves however are extremely weak. The idea that parties can have high levels of partisanship but be weak is extremely confusing. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most local elections in California are nonpartisan. A nonpartisan election is an election in which the parties of the candidates are not printed on the ballots. Although the candidates may identify with one of the political parties, their preference is not shown on the ballot during the election. This causes candidates to have to work harder for their votes and make their agendas known to the public rather than relying on their political party to get them elected. In order for politicians to move up in the political ladder, they must have contributed greatly to their local office and have a decent resume to get them through. In a partisan election, candidates may be able to rely on his or her partisanship to get them elected. For example in a largely democratic area, a candidate may simply be elected just because his name is next to the word democrat on the ballot. This in turn strengthens the parties role because that candidate would owe the party for his or her election. Since California holds nonpartisan elections, candidates owe nothing to the party for their success during an election. They are able to move up in politics based on the impact they had made during their previous role. Although a large amount of the state offices has partisan elections, by the time a candidate has made it to a state election they have made a name for themselves without relying on the party to speak for them. Wade, there have been approximately 1.5 million legal abortions each year (Edwards III, Wattenberg, and Lineberry 131). During the years leading up to and after 1973, there were numerous events and situations that occurred. Before 1965, the idea of right to privacy was barely used, but Griswold v. Connecticut (1965) changed that. The case involved a Connecticut law forbidding the use of contraceptives (Edwards III, Wattenberg, and Lineberry 131). A doctor and a family planner were arrested for distributing the use of contraceptives for couples in need. They were eventually brought to court by the state and were convicted. The case was taken to the Supreme Court and was later decided that everyone is entitled to their right to privacy. This set the precedent for Roe v. Wade because without Griswold v. Connecticut, the decision might be completely different than what it is now. A court case called Rust v. Sullivan was related to abortion. Some of us choose to voice our opinions, while others keep their opinions to themselves. The relationship between Zhu Yanda (Zhu) and Gao in The Man from a Peddler s family, shows a very typical disagreement on politics. Not only is this story about politics, there are also hidden themes throughout that are not easily discernable by some. One of those hidden themes is friendship and effects the relationship has on the process of changing one party s original opinion. Both Gao and Zhu see the world differently, yet despite their differences they still remain friends. One follows all the rules of the government, and the other walks to the beat of his own drum when it comes to politics. It is the difference of opinions we have that keeps the world running smoothly. Our difference of opinions is what makes us grow, and sometimes we change our opinions for the better. • 20. What Is The Evil In Lord Of The Flies There is darkness inside everyone. Evil, malice, wickedness. Society attempts to stomp out these innate traits. In his critically acclaimed novel, Lord of the Flies, William Golding explores what happens to a person when the pressures of society are removed. A group of British boys are stranded on an island without any adults. They form a society that slowly falls apart as half of the boys, led by Jack, are drawn into the savage life accepted on the island. Ralph s group attempts to remain civil, but their success is questionable. Jack s group becomes more and more brutal and savage, and three of the boys die. Golding wrote this book as an allegoryfor the psychoanalytic theory of the personality, the Id, Ego, and Superego. The Id is the evil part, driven by base instincts and desires. The Superego strives for morality and rules, and the Ego attempts to balance the two out. Golding strongly believed that humans at their most base level are evil, a theory developed through his life experiences. Golding fought in WW II, and is quoted saying World War II was the turning point for me. I began to see what people were capable of doing. ( William Golding3) Golding believed that without society people would revert entirely to the Id, foregoing the Superego. He expressed this message in Lord of the Flies by characterizing different boys as the different parts of the personality. He explored what happens to the personality through the development of these characters. Golding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparing August 2026 And There Will Come Soft Rains Ray Bradbury s short story August 2026: There Will Come Soft Rains shares several recurring themes and points with Sara Teasdale s poem, There Will Come Soft Rains. Bradbury s story describes a lone house in the remains of a futuristic city, destroyed by a nuclear war. Teasdale s poem states the theory that if humankind were to disintegrate, it would hardly be remembered, let alone missed. Both works share similar elements revolving around rain, and mankind s passing going unnoticed. Though they build off of each other in this way, these pieces also differ in a few areas, such as the belief that mankind or the means of its demolition will be forgotten by all entities. The similarities and differences between the poem and the short storyhighlight the central themes in both pieces. In both creations, rain is an important recurring component. • 24. The Role Of The Hero In Paradise Lost Critics abroad have argued about who the hero is of John Milton s Paradise Lost: Satan, Adam or Christ, the Son? Since Milton s overall theme stated in the opening lines of Book I is to relate Man s first disobedience and to justify the ways of God to men , Adam must be regarded as the main hero. John M. Steadman supports this view in an essay on Paradise Lost: It is Adam s action which constitutes the argument of the epic. Steadman continues: The Son and Satan embody heroic archetypes and that, through the interplay of the infernal and celestial strategies, Milton represents Satan s plot against man and Christ s resolution to save him as heroic enterprises. Christ and Satan are therefore epic machines. (268 272) Although Satan may be an epic machine, he is best portrayed as the tragic anti hero of Paradise Lost or, at the very least, a main character who possesses the stature and attributes which enable him to achieve tragic status. In the Greek tradition, the essential components of tragedy are admiration, fear and pity for the hero , who has to display a tragic weakness or flaw in his character, which will lead to his downfall. It might be argued that the flaws in Satan s character are such that we should feel no admiration, fear or pity for him, yet he can be seen to inspire these emotions. Satan s tragic flaws are pointed out in Book I. They are envy, pride, and ambition towards self glorification. Satan s pride, in particular, is stressed throughout ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The three important signs to initially address and understand the science behind are perivasculitis, retinal vascular sheathing and retinal hemorrhages. All three medical definitions appear straightforward and all very similar, but the combination of the three leads to a serious diagnosis and urgency for this patient. Perivasculitis is an inflammation of a sheath surrounding the tissue 1. In class we discussed the differences between perivasculitis and periflabitis. Perivasculitis should be white because of the inflammation and the white blood cells then spilling out. The Prefix peri means around, or on the outside of the tissue. Retinal vascular sheathing is sheathing or cuffing of blood vessels and vitreous cells . The swelling or cuffing of blood vessels in the retinal layer is a serious condition and is often associated with vasculitis. Finally, a retinal hemorrhage is abnormal bleeding of the vessels in the retina 2. Retinal hemorrhages can be caused for a variety of reasons such as injuries like forceful blows or accidents and falls, as well as adverse health conditions. The line wraps around the corner of the counter and outside and to the right into the library hallway. Some folks look tired; possibly from a long weekend or maybe a late night studying the previous day. Some are wide awake and upbeat as though they received a good night s rest and has a fairly easy weekend. The atmosphere is busy and rushed yet is oddly soothing. The baristas are focused, not wavering from their tasks as they fill orders; some complicated and some just a simple iced coffee. The wait time is anywhere from fifteen to forty five minutes. Many people stand with inpatients; tapping their feet and faces expressing discontent. A table of girls sit in the back corner discussing the night before. One girl mentions not getting enough sleep due to being up late studying for an exam she has at one o clock today. Another girl talks about being really stressed out. Today, there are new temptations, and functions that were nonexistent three decades ago. • 38. Essay On Motor Impairments In Individuals With Attention... Research Question: Because it has been hypothesized that motor impairments in individuals with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) could be related to cerebellar deficits, this study aims to determine if individuals diagnosed with ADHD have motor impairments when completing tasks involving the cerebellum. The researchers hypothesized that the cerebellar function will negatively impact the motor performances of adults diagnosed with ADHD, or adults with ADHD like symptoms, when compared to controls. Method: In this study, there were 91 participants, 49 of which were female and 42 were male, aged 18 to 30 years old. Part A of the ASRS, which is an ADHD self report scale, was the diagnostic measure used to determine if an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This phase determined if the participant continued to compensate for the rotation when it was removed. In each phase, reaction time, movement time, and angle at maximum velocity were recorded. Reaction time was the time it took the participant to begin moving the cursor when the trial began. Movement time was the time it took for the cursor to move from the starting circle to the target circle, and angle at maximum velocity was measured because, according to Kurdziel et al. (2014), the point of maximum velocity represents a point in each trial when the participant corrected for their error (p. 1148). Results: Baseline did not show significant differences for any of the 3 measures. In the adaption phase, reaction time also did not show a significant effect when comparing the ADHD and control groups. When considering movement time during the adaption phase, results indicate that movement time gradually decreased throughout phases. Also, results showed that individuals with ADHD symptoms had slower correction rates. Regarding the angle at maximum velocity for ADHD and control groups, data showed that participants did adapt to the 30 degree rotation; however, the ADHD group was significantly slower when adapting. Post adaption phase results show that reaction time did not show significant differences. Also, in this phase, results for movement time and angle at maximum velocity for ADHD and control groups did not differ. Overall, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Social Media And Instant Messenger Sitting on the train, I was aimlessly staring out of the window with my headphones in blasting my music at full volume. I was heading into the City for the first time and as if that wasn t scary enough on its own; I was going to meet my brother. The same brother I didn t know existed until nine months ago. It had started when I received a letter in the post, which in itself was a surprise. It had taken a couple of weeks to get over the shock and come to terms with the fact I had a brother. Over the following months we had spoken to each other through various forms of social media and instant messenger, getting to know each other more. So far I had learnt that his name was Michael Fuentes but that he preferred to go by Mike and that he was two years younger than me at twenty eight. He fitted the gangster stereotype perfectly, but the more I got to know him the more I disagreed with the label. He had long hair, like me, but he had shaved the sides so it was technically a Mohawk. I was also really surprised by his voice as it was a lot softer than I had imagined based on his appearance and the small amount of information I had prior to speaking to him. I also knew that he had both arms covered in tattoos as was his neck from the pictures I had seen online although he had told me that he had more over his torso and legs. I could feel my heart rate speeding up as the train was slowing down, knowing I was just minutes away from facing my only living blood relative. The train ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Carnegie Hall Critique Carnegie Hall invites some of the best young musicians to join Christopher O Riley on stage to perform. Twelve year old Conrad Tao was the first guest welcomed to the stage in the season 1 episode that I watched. Tao lives in New York very close to Carnegie Hall. His performance automatically jumped him into his piece. His choice of musicwas Kreisler s Tambourin Chinois. The young player has a lot of style with a straight face while doing so. Christopher O Riley surprised me when he was using a iPad to automatically flip the pages of his sheet music. Technology being used in this performance just surprised me. After Tao s performance O Riley ask him if he has any other interests besides music. Conrad has a love for rollercoasters. Between riding and researching them, he basically knows all about them. The next gifted musician welcomed to stage is a clarinet player from Spartanburg, South Carolina named Nicholas Graham. I can relate to his instrument very much. He reminds me of my older sister growing up playing the clarinet. Nicholas performs the first part of the fantasy piece by Schumann. There was a lot of reasoning why he choose this specific piece. • 43. The First Years Of My Life For the first fifteen years of my life, I never referred to myself as a firm believer in love at first sight. People often tossed around the word love like it was nothing, but I knew that I had never truly been in love before. This all changed about a month before my sixteenth birthday when I fell in love with the windy city. In May of 2015, the band took a four day trip to Chicago. I was thrilled for the excursion because I had only traveled outside of Kansas a few times. Those vacations were to the beach, which is nothing like the bustling metropolis of Chicago. I had never truly experienced the city life before, so I was beyond ready for this new adventure. When I arrived to Chicago, I expected to see sights that were familiar to me, like in Kansas City. Hundreds of people traveling in different directions, towering skyscrapers, and shops were all around the city. When we were just a few miles outside from Chicago, I could see the whole skyline in the distance. I was completely fascinated by the hundreds of skyscrapers that lined the city, and the sunrise that turned the sky different shades of orange, yellow, and pink. The views that I encountered while first entering Chicago were breathtaking. Throughout the whole trip, I experienced multiple new sights, smells, and sounds. As the trip came to an end, I realized that I had developed a true love for the natural and urban beauty of Chicago, and that I eventually want to call this place home in a few years. The windy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Foucault s essay tended to dismiss the author from his position with respect to analyse the texts while Barthes granted all the interpretative responsibly to the reader. Both theorists apprehended the notion of author has no authority in directing the interpretation of their writings. Foucault, in his essay What Is an Author? argues that the critics should not evaluate the text in relation with its author, instead, they should analyse the text itself in the light of the its structure, basic form and its design architecture. His brief description of author is just a discursive person. Foucault commented on himself in his essay for being focused on a specific subject, he justifies that it is not because they were interesting to him but because the subject may have something to do his personal life. He affirms that his experience with the things that surround him would help him better recognize or understand them when he does any theoretical work (Mills, 11). • 46. Poor Countries Remain Poor When discussing poverty, it is difficult to pinpoint one simple reason that explains why poor countries remain poor. However, patterns may be drawn when looking at states history during European colonization. The notion that the existence or absence of European settlers largely shaped political institutions within states is supported by the two different institution types: representative institutions and extractive institutions. European settlers promoted their own wants through strong, representative institutions in colonized states. These states, such as the United States or Australia, are considered wealthy countries today, whereas today s poor countries, including the Democratic Republic of Congo and Somalia, were colonized by European settlers as extractive institutions. In this paper, I will argue that, poor countries remain poor because the weak political institutions inherited by extractive states under colonial regimes persist, making it difficult to develop an appropriate relationship between the state and the marketand degree of state intervention in the economy. Even though colonial regimes eventually ended, the extractive state s weak political institutions persisted for three main possibilities, according to Daron Acemoglu. The first possibility he and coauthors (2001) point to is the fact that setting up institutions that place restrictions on government power and enforce property rights is costly (1376). When new elites inherit extractive institutions, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Slight differences in viewpoints are evident, such as The Mission s portrayal of the natives in a more humane fashion, but this goes along with the evolution of time and the current trend of being politically correct. On one side there are imperialist plunderers , both Spaniards and the Portuguese, who want to get rich and are ready and willing to utilize any method possible in order to fulfill their insatiable desire for riches including slavery and the massacre of the natives. On the other hand, there are Jesuit missionaries who desire to peacefully convert the natives to Christianity. (Ebert, http://www.suntimes.com/ebert) An interesting connection that can be made between the life of BartolomГ© De Las Casas and a character in The Mission is with Robert De Niro s character, Mandosa. At one time Captain Mandosa was in charge of massacres of natives and owned many slaves, but after he killed his brother out of jealousy for his brother s lover, he repented his sins by joining the priesthood and helping the mission attain their goals. This has similarities with how De Las Casas got involved in working for the plight of the Indians. It can be speculated that The Mission has several sources of influence that culminated in its production and release in 1986. Special Education In The 1890s In order to have a good understanding of Special Educational Needs and how the education system accommodates for children with SEN, it is important to know how it has developed over the past hundred or so years. In 1886, the Egerton Commission was set up to view the educational provision of children who were deaf, blind or dumb. By 1888, the Egerton Commission had begun including the education of those from ‘exceptional circumstances’ who would appear to need ‘exceptional methods of educationâ€events which unfolded around this time had a large impact on how special needs was viewed and still affects special education needs provision now. In 1889 it was suggested that children who were considered to be feeble minded children were to continue to be educated within the mainstream system but within education classes and children considered to be educable imbeciles were to be educated in special institutions. These recommendations led to the opening of of special schools in the 1890s. In 1898, the government expressed a lack of defining criteria for these groups and therefore the difficulty in defining labels and correct education for children with special education needs. This led to the Departmental Committee on Defective and Epileptic Children to create the subgroup ‘the ability to earn a living’.Children who were considered as able to earn a living were children previously labeled as feeble minded whereas children who were imbeciles or idiots were considered as unable to earn a living. By 1913, the Board of Education’s Chief Medical Officer decided to group children into five categories: the mentally normal child, the dull or backward child, the feeble minded child, the imbecile child, the idiot. This shows that educators were beginning to have a greater understanding of different abilities. the Board of Educators was also beginning to understand that the lack ...
