Glacier Skywalk
The Glacier Skywalk is a cantilevered glass walkway located 280 meters above the Sunwapta Valley in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada. The 30 meter walkway juts 35 meters over the cliff edge, supported by trapezoidal steel box girders anchored to the cliff face. Quebec disaster
The Quebec Bridge project began in 1887 to span the St. Lawrence River and connect Montreal with the railroad network. Theodore Cooper was selected as the head engineer and modified the design to increase the span length. During construction, Cooper had limited oversight which allowed specifications to be exceeded. On August 29, 1907 the partially completed bridge collapsed, killing 86 workers. An investigation found issues with the estimated self-weight, temporary connections, and load calculations. The bridge was later rebuilt and opened in 1919, becoming the world's longest cantilever bridge. Lessons learned included developing design standards in Canada and ensuring responsibility is not left to one person.

The Qianximen Bridge in Chongqing, China connects the Yuzhong Peninsula with the northern district of the city. Theodore Cooper was selected as the head engineer and modified the design to increase the span length. During construction, Cooper had limited oversight which allowed specifications to be exceeded. On August 29, 1907 the partially completed bridge collapsed, killing 86 workers. An investigation found issues with the estimated self-weight, temporary connections, and load calculations. The bridge was later rebuilt and opened in 1919, becoming the world's longest cantilever bridge. Lessons learned included developing design standards in Canada and ensuring responsibility is not left to one person.
Southeast Asia Construction - Qianximen Bridge, Chongqing, China
The Qianximen Bridge in Chongqing, China connects the Yuzhong Peninsula with the northern district of the city. Opened in 2014, the 720-meter long double deck bridge carries four lanes of traffic on the upper deck and two rail transit tracks on the lower deck. It was designed as a partially cable-stayed girder bridge with a single, elegant 100-meter tall concrete tower and nine pairs of cables to support the bridge deck. The bridge was designed to facilitate both light rail and road traffic flows across the Jialing River in Chongqing.
Akashi kaikyo bridge
The Akashi Kaikyo Bridge is the longest suspension bridge in the world. It connects Kobe on Honshu island to Iwaya on Awaji island in Japan, spanning the Akashi Strait. Before the bridge was built, ferries transported people across the dangerous strait, which experiences severe storms. The bridge's central span of 1,991 meters is supported by two massive steel towers that are 282.8 meters tall. Construction of the mega-project began in 1988, required over 10 years to complete, and cost $4.3 billion. When it opened in 1998, the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge became an engineering marvel and a symbol of national pride in Japan.

Fast construction of bridges using precast concrete elements provides benefits to both owner agencies and contractors. For owners, it reduces the duration of work zones, lowering traffic handling costs and accident risks while causing less inconvenience to the public. Contractors benefit from reduced hazards, the ability to accomplish more work in less time with fewer weather delays, and lower costs. Examples are given of bridges constructed rapidly using precast concrete piles, pile caps, piers, abutments, beams, and other elements.
San francisco oakland bay bridge
The East Span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge project involves constructing a new 625-meter section of the bridge using a single-tower, self-anchored suspension design. This is the largest public infrastructure project in California's history. The American Bridge/Fluor joint venture is nearing completion, having erected the world's largest cable saddle and installed main cable strands ahead of schedule. When finished in 2013, the new section will provide seismic stability and complete a signature bridge crossing the Bay.

This paper describes a speed control device for generating electrical energy on an electricity network based on the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) used for wind power conversion systems. At first, a double-fed induction generator model was constructed. A control law is formulated to govern the flow of energy between the stator of a DFIG and the energy network using three types of controllers: proportional integral (PI), sliding mode controller (SMC) and second order sliding mode controller (SOSMC). Their different results in terms of power reference tracking, reaction to unexpected speed fluctuations, sensitivity to perturbations, and resilience against machine parameter alterations are compared. MATLAB/Simulink was used to conduct the simulations for the preceding study. Multiple simulations have shown very satisfying results, and the investigations demonstrate the efficacy and power-enhancing capabilities of the suggested control system.

The 1525 ft long cable-stayed main span unit features a 440 ft tall single pylon, with the upper 196 ft faced in glass to reflect Toledo’s heritage as a leader in the glass manufacturing industry. LED fixtures behind the glass provide nightly dynamic displays. The project encompasses 2.75 miles of ramps, roadway, and cable-stayed bridge for a total of 1.2 million ft 2 of concrete segmental bridge deck. Previously, interstate and local traffic used the Craig Memorial Bridge, a bascule span that averaged 500 annual openings, stalling traffic. Port of Toledo traffic now uses the new bridge, improving safety, reducing congestion, and extending the Craig Memorial Bridge service life

The I-280 Veterans’ Glass City Skyway is the first cable-stayed bridge in the world to use the innovative cradle system that carries the stays through the pylon. The cable stays use epoxy-coated post-tensioning strands as the primary tensile elements that run from an anchorage at the bridge deck through the pylon and back to the bridge deck, transferring naturally compressive forces to the pylon through the cradle embedded in the pylon
