INTRODUCTION:
 Trump International Hotel and Tower also known as Trump Tower Chicago.
 Located in downtown Chicago, IL.
 Named after the businessman and 45th POTUS Mr. Donald Trump.
 The construction was completed in 2009.
 It is the 17th tallest building in the world.
 It is a 98 story structure with a height of 1388 feet.
 It is the 4th tallest building in the U.S
 The design of the building includes, from the ground up, retail space, a
parking garage, a hotel and residential apartments.
SPECIFICATION TABLE:
DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE:
 Floor space of the tower is 2.6 Million square feet, 100,000 square feet for retail activities, parking
for a thousand cars, 486 residential units, 339 hotel units, etc.
 The tower’s lifted 39 feet from the ground level.
 The design of the building incorporates three setback features designed to provide visual
continuity with the surrounding skyline.
DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE:
 The setbacks and the rounded edges of the building are
provided to combat the wind load.
 The building's Permasteelisa curtain wall uses clear low-
emissivity coated glass and a curved wing-shaped polished
stainless-steel system.
 The architectural design was provided by Adrian Smith,
Skidmore, Owings and Merrill and the design of the tower was
tested by Ashraf Habibullah of Computers and Construction
Inc.
STRUCTURAL DETAILS &
CONSTRUCTION:
 Trump Tower is the tallest formwork building in the world.
 Concrete moldings were used instead of ironwork to reduce the building’s
footprint. Because a steel frame should be 25 feet wider to support a
building of this proportion.
 Moreover concrete formwork was used to counteract the wind force with
the force of gravity.
 The building is cantilevered in the limestone bedrock.
 Each floor is separated by a concrete slab, and stainless steel, glass, and
aluminum panels are attached to each floor.
STRUCTURAL DETAILS &
CONSTRUCTION:
FOUNDATION:
 10 feet thick slab has been
constructed below the ground called
the Mat foundation.
 It is then connected to 57 concrete
columns beneath the ground
transferring the load to the bedrock.
 The foundation is increased 25% due
to the river beside the tower to
prevent the catastrophic failure.
STRUCTURAL DETAILS &
CONSTRUCTION:
THE CONCRETE CORE:
 The concrete core acts as the spine of the
building and is located in the center of the
building.
 The concrete spine uses five I-beam and C-
beam shaped walls and exterior columns,
narrowing to two I-beam shaped was as the
building rises.
STRUCTURAL DETAILS & CONSTRUCTION:
THE OUTRIGGER SYSTEM:
 The core and the outrigger system provides
lateral stability and wind resistance to the
Trump Tower.
 The outriggers are large reinforced concrete
wall beams, 66 inches wide and 17 feet 6
inches deep.
 They extend from the flanges of core to the
exterior columns.
 Outriggers are installed on level 28-29, 50-51
and 90-91.
STRUCTURAL DETAILS &
CONSTRUCTION:
SHAPE OF THE BUILDING:
 The speed of wind with which it hits the
tower is around 70 mph.
 The shape of building is made round in
the corner to confuse the rotation of
winds and protect it from failure due to
tornados. The building if made square
may have caused structure to
catastrophic failure.
That’s All!
