Vertical cities are proposed as a solution to issues caused by rapid urbanization. A vertical city consists of multi-story buildings 30 to 100 stories tall that house work and residential spaces. This reduces the need for urban sprawl and preserves green spaces while providing all necessary infrastructure like transportation and utilities in a small area. As more of the world's population moves to cities, high-density vertical cities will be important to accommodate growth, especially in small, land-constrained nations. They reduce commuting times and energy use through more efficient vertical travel like elevators. Researchers are exploring how robotic fabrication could impact high-rise design and construction to support sustainable vertical cities of the future.

1. “Vertical City”:- The quest to build it
Why Vertical City?
The concept of the Vertical City is fascinating & attractive to some people, &
repulsive to others. In principle, living & working in a building hundreds of stories high
makes a great deal of sense, it is also a solution for rapid urbanisation, it prevents
the loss of farmland & natural greenbelts, it reduces air pollution (since all
commuting is vertical where the distances are much shorter and the transport
mechanism much more efficient) and reduces the need for all the roads that
service horizontal cities, so people can just walk out into parkland.
A new urban form is in need urgently & experts in relevant areas have discussed &
experimented with different ways to solve humanities’ most pressing problems.
Although some methods have remitted some issues more or less, still we have not
been able to eliminate the urban crisis. That’s why we hope Vertical City will be the
new urban form that can solve our problems. Cities have a major impact on the
economic & social development of nations

2. What is Vertical City?
A Vertical city is a city consisting lot of multi-storeyed building of 30 to 100 stories in
height with all the necessary basic infrastructure required like Fire fighting, High
speed elevators, plumbing, garbage disposal & integrated road network.
A vertical city is highly densely populated city where everything we need is
available nearby and where the distance from home and work place is very less, so
it very convent for people and save precious time & energy

3. Why do we need Vertical City
With rapid urbanization & growing number of urban population, the demand for
the urban land become very high, in small island nation where there is sever land
constrain like Singapore, Dubai, Hong kong, & New york the only solution to rapid
urbanization is vertical cities, which can accommodate growth & Development of
city
Vertical City reduce the travel time in commuting from home to work & back to
home, in the vertical cities the horizontal travel distance is less and vertical travel
distance is by high speed elevator and thus reducing the consumption of the fuel in
cars and save time, Money & Energy and reduces the carbon foot print

4. The United Nations estimates that more than 75% of the world’s population will live
in urban areas by 2050. New residential & commercial spaces within cities will be
needed to cater to millions of people, creating a pressing need for cities to invest in
innovative, integrated & sustainable solutions to cope with the growth of rapid
urbanisation.
With a growing urban population, high-rise buildings will feature prominently in
future cities; hence the proposal of a Vertical City in the face of high-density
urbanisation comes as no surprise. For a city like Singapore, where land area is
limited, high-rise building forms have typified the urban fabric. To this end, the
Future Cities Laboratory (FCL) has embarked on the research of digital fabrication
to investigate the implications of robotic fabrication processes on the design and
construction of high-rise buildings.
