I. CONTEXTUAL FACTORS
MDD Standard 1
 The teacher candidate collects data regarding the institutional and classroom
contexts, the characteristics of the pupils as a group and its diversity, using this
information to plan and deliver instruction.
1. Community in which the school is located and/or serves, municipality
or owner and school factors: Below, describe the geographic location,
community and school population, socioeconomic profile, and race/ethnicity.
Escuela República de Ecuador is a public elementary school which is located
near of the center of Tomé city whose population is about 895 students. In
this school, students do not pay any type of school fees. Besides, the school
provides students with the material which is more expensive such as books,
dictionaries, etc. This school does not force students to buy materials of
determined brand or materials that students cannot afford so, students have
easy access to material.
In terms of race/ ethnicity, in this school there are some few foreign students
coming from Latin American countries like Peru, Colombia and Ecuador. These
children are treated like any other student.
1.1. How These Factors May Impact My Lessons: Explain specific ways
that these factors may impact your lesson topics, teaching strategies,
assessment techniques, etc.
At the moment of planning a lesson, we need to consider all the aspects that
may impact our lessons such as: people, interests, level of English… school factors
which facilitate the lessons (appropriate illumination, technology…) Also, the
socioeconomic profile can give us some ideas about the environment in which
students are living and the difficulties or facilities they may have.
2. Student Characteristics and Their Instructional Implications: Below,
describe how two student characteristics you observed in your student (e.g.,
gender, race/ethnicity, interests, student skill levels) might impact the way you
instruct those students. For example, your planning, motivation, management,
or assessment. For each example of the student characteristic, give a specific
instructional implication that will influence how you plan and implement your
instruction.
2.1 Description of First Characteristic of Student(s) in this Class:
Interests: Many students are interested in English because they play
videogames, listen artists, watch series, etc. which often are written or spoken
in English language.
2.1.1 How This Characteristic Will Impact my Lesson:
I think that planning lessons thinking in students’ interests may help me because I
would have students more interested in the class. For example, if I want that they
write something using simple past, I can prepare a lesson about write a biography
about a person or a group of people ( a music band for example) that they want.
That is more interesting for them instead of forcing them to write about someone they
are not interested in.
2.2 Description of Second Characteristic of Students in this Class:
Ordered students:
2.2.1 How This Characteristic Will Impact my Lesson:
Ordered students facilitate the lessons because you don´t waste your time in
distractions and you can focus the class in the way that you want. Therefore, you can
work with your students easily.
3. Physical Aspects of the Classroom and Their Instructional
Implications: Below, describe how two physical aspects of the
classroom you observed (e.g., posters, room arrangement, technology)
might impact the way you instruct students, for example, planning,
motivation, management, or assessment. For each example, give a
specific instructional implication that will influence how you plan and
implement your instruction.
3.1 Description of First Physical Aspect: good illumination,
3.1.1 How This Aspect Will Impact My Lesson: Aspects in a room
such as good illumination can help students at the moment of reading
something and also help students to be more focused in the class because ,
according to my experience, a room with good illumination keep students a
little bit more awake.
3.2 Description of Second Physical Aspect:
Projector
3.2.1How This Aspect Will Impact My Lesson:
A projector helps teacher to have a lot of material available immediately so, it helps a
lot at the moment of teaching because you can have your information more organized
and helps you saving time, because you don´t have to write a lot and you can focus
what you write in specific information which complement the information that you are
showing.
3. Reflects on the importance of knowing about students and the context
to provide quality teaching
It is very important to know our students reality, what they think, give them
a good advice if they need it and not only go to the school and do your class. I
think that if a Teacher have a good relation with their students, you will have
participating students with a good attitude to learn.

  • 3. 2.1 Description of First Characteristic of Student(s) in this Class: Interests: Many students are interested in English because they play videogames, listen artists, watch series, etc. which often are written or spoken in English language. 2.1.1 How This Characteristic Will Impact my Lesson: I think that planning lessons thinking in students’ interests may help me because I would have students more interested in the class. For example, if I want that they write something using simple past, I can prepare a lesson about write a biography about a person or a group of people ( a music band for example) that they want. That is more interesting for them instead of forcing them to write about someone they are not interested in. 2.2 Description of Second Characteristic of Students in this Class: Ordered students: 2.2.1 How This Characteristic Will Impact my Lesson: Ordered students facilitate the lessons because you don´t waste your time in distractions and you can focus the class in the way that you want.   • 4. specific instructional implication that will influence how you plan and implement your instruction. 3.1 Description of First Physical Aspect: good illumination, 3.1.1 How This Aspect Will Impact My Lesson: Aspects in a room such as good illumination can help students at the moment of reading something and also help students to be more focused in the class because , according to my experience, a room with good illumination keep students a little bit more awake. 3.2 Description of Second Physical Aspect: Projector 3.2.1How This Aspect Will Impact My Lesson: A projector helps teacher to have a lot of material available immediately so, it helps a lot at the moment of teaching because you can have your information more organized and helps you saving time, because you don´t have to write a lot and you can focus what you write in specific information which complement the information that you are showing. 3. Reflects on the importance of knowing about students and the context to provide quality teaching It is very important to know our students reality, what they think, give them a good advice if they need it and not only go to the school and do your class. I think that if a Teacher have a good relation with their students, you will have participating students with a good attitude to learn.
