State of being verbs, also called linking verbs, link the subject of a sentence to information about its state. There are 8 state of being verbs: is, am, are, was, were, be, being, been. State of being verbs describe a subject's state rather than an action. Examples include "is" in "the teacher is tall" and "tastes" in "this candy tastes so sweet."
