Few countries can boast having a third of its GDP stored as mobile money in the hands of a telecom group. There is no miracle in the rise of MPesa, but a deep understanding by Safaricom of the social fabric of East Africa’s tech and economic hub, as well as a lots of test and try. The lure of mobile money have lots of startups competing into this space, to connect remittances, shopping and payments to the MPesa infrastructure. Other than that, Kenya is also experiencing a double motion in its innovation ecosystem: if it’s definitely a community-driven startup hub, its government is also playing a key role through laws and pharaonic projects.

Presentation from a panel discussion on the business case for HR in the virtual world at a Human Resources seminar in Boston in January 2009. Emerging technologies and innovative new business models are transforming life, business and the global economy at a speed never seen before. As technologies that include 3D Printing, Advanced Robotics, Blockchain, the Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, Autonomous Vehicles and Virtual Reality dramatically reshape the modern world, businesses set up in less fluid times are having to make increasingly complex and critical decisions against the ticking clock of change. But looking beyond the alarmist headlines and the proliferation of buzzwords surrounding technological disruption, many business leaders still lack a source of expert opinion and analysis of this ongoing digital transformation. That’s where D/SRUPTION magazine steps in.
How can Smart Cities develop as an ecosystem where businesses, big and small, citizens and public institutions can play and use at the same level? This presentation is focusing on the creation of a urban ecosystem that acts as a fair and ethical market place for businesses and to make better use of the city public infrastructure by citizens and public institutions.
This concept was developed together with Paul Houghton and Jane Vita.

Digital transformation strategy
How to be a business fit
In a time of 4IR AI Blockchain Fintech
The future of all businesses and related industries is all about disruption – and that’s a good thing
Disruption across all industries is inevitable, but rather than bracing for the change, businesses should be confident to accept and embrace it.
This is the only way to be fit in a digital transformation 4IR time.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

5. Journey from Heaven to Hell – The Change of Perspectives
• As a consequence I have lived a rather decent life, with an ok living in Sweden, a
house in Spain, an apartment in a greek paradise island…
• … apart from one year there was no paradise, but refugee children from Syrian war
being washed up on the beaches, and 1700 people without home, food, clothes
• I cried. My woman cried. We just had children, two gorgeous
twin boys, and those kids on the beach could have been ours
6. The First Stumbling Steps to Doing Good
• At the same time, I had been
accused of being one of Europe’s
best digital strategists
• So why could I not use that insane
power to not only help Mercedes
sell more cars, and Samsung sell
more phones, but actually do good?
• So I went home, started a FB-group
• Within 1 week I had 2.000 members,
within 2 weeks our apartment was
literally filled with donations (luckily
I had two ☺)
• I went down with 43 cases, spons-
ored by airline, helped by rock
climbing friends for distribution at the local ground
7. Scaling Up the Good - Offline
• But Kalymnos was not the only place
with refugee children starving and
freezing, so once started, you cant stop
• I started an NGO with 17 excursions,
from Croatia, Slovenia to Syria & Iraq
• In total help to 70,000 refugees
• My life changed, and I wanted to do
more :-/
• I started by writing a letter…

venture that is…
…daring to change the
world.
11. AIAR EdTech Ltd AS THE ANSWER TO THE GLOBAL SKILLING CRISIS
AI and automation is killing a lot of jobs
• 70 million young people are already unemployed in the
world
• Now over 75 million jobs are expected to disappear during
Globalization 4.0 and its transition from man to machine in
the next few years.
But AI and automation also means a lot of jobs are created
• But, yes, more than 130 million jobs are also expected to be
added in areas where there is not enough competence today
• Especially in technical skills (STEM), but also a lot of "human"
skills, in total more than half of the people in the world will
need reskilling of 1-12 months within the next year
12. AND THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING
• The Scope: And so far we only talked about
the people that need to reskill, where the
total market of education includes 2,5 billion
people
• The investor: Regarding doing well for
investors, this is an industry worth $6 trillion
– twice as big as the car industry.
• The society: Regarding doing good for
society, this is the most powerful weapon to
change the world
13. SO WHO SHOULD SOLVE THIS PROBLEM?
The analogue world
• Has not provided sufficient solution, so far they didn’t
even succeed in helping the 260 million children in the
world without access to school
• Adding to that broadly reckoned to prepare people for
life, while not sufficiently preparing people for jobs.
The digital world
• But like many other major world problems, such as in the
climate crisis and distributed wealth, both the problems
and the solution in skilling, are to be found in modern
digital technology.
• AIAR: solves this by using by not using new technology to
repair old processes, but actually innovating new ones

20. • The rule of the game: if you solve a small problem you get a small business, if you
solve a big problem you get a big business. In line with this AIAR regards nothing
but the biggest “business” possible.
• Best-in-Class: In all modern online verticals we have an hourglass
structure with 2-3 “gorillas” dominating, a lot of local initiatives
at the bottom, and nothing in between → i.e. winner takes it all.

But Didn’t We Forgot Something? What About Doing Well for Investors?
I can not talk for SID and Dope Card (or I actually could, I would invest in them any time, probably
will ☺) – but can only talk for myself: AIAR will not only do good for society, but also for investors

AIAR Estimated Revenue 2018-22
• Cashflow: With an aggressive attack for dominating market, this will give a negative
cash flow -$20M in 2020, and a healthy profit margin with cash flow of $3B in 2023
• Solid unicorn potential: Googles highest ranked futurist claims that the biggest
Internet company 2030 will be a digital school – Given the right implementation
the ambition of AIAR is nothing less than becoming this digital school!
• Penetration: In line with this AIAR will become one of those 2-3
gorillas, with 30 million users by 2020 and 1 billion users by 2023
• Revenue: with a modest ARPU of $1 (USD) in 2020 and $10 in 2023, the revenue
will be $30M in 2020 and $10B 2023.
