As we enter the new year, a new strategy, focus or mindset is often required. In a few years time, the impending onslaught of digital and intelligent tech like AI, robotics, autonomous vehicles, blockchain, VR/AR, voice personal assistants and IoT will create a perfect storm for innovation and disruption. Due to this threat of technological and digital disruption, many organisations are undergoing digital transformation, building an innovative culture and exploring blue ocean businesses.
Companies in this creative journey frequently find that while strategy and leadership are important, the biggest inertia and obstacle is culture and individual mindsets. According to McKinsey, Cultural and Behaviour Challenges (33%) is the most formidable challenge to digital transformation (article). Similarly, in a Cap Gemini report, Culture (62%) is ranked as the top hurdle to digital transformation (article). In Nov 2017, Harvard Business Review piece emphasizes the need for CEOs to think like founders and not mere managers (article).
To address this critical gap, we have specially developed the MINDSET 4.0 Now! program for various types of organisations (MNCs, government agencies, local enterprises) in a variety of sectors (from financial services, retail, FMCG, healthcare, real estate, telecoms, technology, manufacturing, logistics, etc) for senior, middle and promising talent (CXOs to mid-level managers). Objective of program is to quickly inculcate and internalise the Innovator's Mindset in your leaders and talent and unlock their potential to be creative catalyst in your organisation's future.
This document provides an overview of Arjun Gupta and his career as the founder and CEO of TeleSoft Partners. It discusses his early life experiences climbing in the Himalayas and his educational background. It then outlines his career path including roles at Tektronix, Stanford Business School, McKinsey, and investing roles. It describes how he founded TeleSoft Partners in 1996 and has overseen 61 portfolio companies resulting in $17 billion in exits. The document concludes by discussing Arjun's passion for outdoor adventures including expeditions to the North and South Poles and six Himalayan climbs.
The document provides an overview of intelligent content and the evolution of content on the web. It defines intelligent content as content that expresses meaning in an open way such that data, information and knowledge can be accessed by people and applications. The document discusses how content on the web has evolved from documents with links to include more user-generated content and social aspects. Examples of intelligent applications that intersect multiple data sets are mentioned. The talk concludes by discussing different types of structured content and how the internet is evolving into a complex system with the web providing the basis for the nervous system.
One of the great irony of successful companies is how easily they can fail. New companies are founded to take advantage of some new technology. They become highly successful and but when the technology shifts, something new comes along, they are unable to adapt and fail. This is the innovator’s dilemma.
Then there are companies that manage to survive. For example, Kodak survived two platform shift, only til fail the third. IBM has survived over 100 years. What do successful companies do differently?
Digital transformation is happening across many industries. Three common misunderstandings about digital transformation are that it is only about technology, only about product innovation, or the same as digitization. A plan for digital transformation should scan innovations, determine impact, create a vision, build a roadmap, install leadership, and design the organization. The future will bring more changes like augmented reality, artificial intelligence, and self-driving vehicles that will disrupt many industries.

Tim O'Reilly argues that AI and automation do not necessarily eliminate jobs but can create new types of work. While some studies estimate 47% of jobs may be automated in the next 20 years, technology solves human problems and more problems means more work. When productivity increases only benefit shareholders and not society, problems arise. However, AI can be used to augment humans and enable them to do things previously impossible. The future of work is up to us to ensure technology empowers people.
James Chan is the founder and CEO of Silicon Straits, which aims to build a startup ecosystem in Asia Pacific. Silicon Straits operates at the intersection of ideas, capital, and talent through its venture fund, incubator programs, coworking space in Singapore (CO.LAB), and software development team in Vietnam (SAIGON). While startup ecosystems take decades to develop, Silicon Straits hopes to help accelerate the process in emerging markets through initiatives that bring together entrepreneurs, engineers, designers, investors and advisors. The goal is to provide the necessary platforms, resources and connections for individuals and teams to develop their ideas and start new companies.
Few countries can boast having a third of its GDP stored as mobile money in the hands of a telecom group. There is no miracle in the rise of MPesa, but a deep understanding by Safaricom of the social fabric of East Africa’s tech and economic hub, as well as a lots of test and try. The lure of mobile money have lots of startups competing into this space, to connect remittances, shopping and payments to the MPesa infrastructure. Other than that, Kenya is also experiencing a double motion in its innovation ecosystem: if it’s definitely a community-driven startup hub, its government is also playing a key role through laws and pharaonic projects.

Digital Strategies: Why is this on top of the C-level agenda?Robin Teigland
The document discusses the need for companies to undergo a fundamental shift in strategy and business models to adapt to digital disruption. While many incumbents have unlocked value from digital technologies, digital disruption has only begun and will accelerate. New business models like platforms, ecosystems, and on-demand services are emerging. To thrive in this new environment, companies need to balance exploiting existing business with exploring new opportunities through activities like partnerships, data and software strategies, and retraining workforces. The skills required of workers are also changing rapidly as routine jobs decline and new types of non-routine work emerge.

This document outlines Andreas Tschas's work building the Pioneers startup ecosystem. It discusses how the Central and Eastern European startup ecosystem has improved from 2009 to 2016, with more funding, talent, and understanding from government and education. Pioneers has grown from an event with 40 people in 2009 to a global organization in 2015 connecting thousands of entrepreneurs, investors, corporations and experts through events, programs and ventures. The Pioneers500 program identifies the most promising early-stage startups, and Pioneers is expanding its events and programs to more regions including Tokyo.
WHY DO SO MANY ANALYTICS PROJECTS STILL FAIL?Haluk Demirkan
“KEY CONSIDERATIONS FOR DEEP ANALYTICS ON BIG DATA FOR DEEP LEARNING”
What is Big Data? Big Data, which means many things to many people, is not a new technological fad. In addition to providing innovative solutions and operational insights to enduring challenges and opportunuties, big data with deep analytics instigate new ways to transform processes, organizations, entire industries, and even society all together. Pushing the boundaries of deep data analytics uncovers new.
Big Data is not just “big.” The exponentially growing volume of the data is only one of many characteristics that are often associated with Big Data, such as variety, velocity, veracity and others (6Vs).
By now, we should already have knowledge and experience to have successful data and analytics enabled decision support systems. So why do these projects still fail, and why are executives and users are still so unhappy? While there are many reasons for this high failure rate, the biggest is that companies still treat these projects as just another IT project. Big data analytics is neither a product nor a computer system. It is, rather, a constantly evolving strategy, vision and architecture that continuously seek to align an organization’s operations and direction with its strategic business goals with strategic, tactical and operational decisions.
This document provides a summary of the July/August 2014 issue of the magazine Analytics. The summary includes:
- Key articles in the issue discuss real-time text analytics using social media data, why analytics projects fail, the bright job prospects for data scientists, how IBM has used analytics for transformation, and forecasts of popular analytics software.
- Short descriptions and headlines are provided for additional sections and departments in the magazine including executive interviews, columns on healthcare and other analytics topics, and previews of upcoming analytics conferences.
- Information is given about the magazine's publisher and editorial board. The magazine is published by INFORMS to support the analytics profession and drive better business decisions.

Navigating the New Industrial Revolution - Exploring New Forms of Value CreationRobin Teigland
- The document discusses how organizations must change internally at the same or greater rate than external changes in order to survive. It also discusses the rise of digital disruption and how much change has yet to occur.
- New sharing economy and platform-based business models are activating underutilized assets through greater access and efficiency. This includes one-time interactions between strangers through central platforms.
- Local Motors is highlighted as an example of a new collaborative production model where vehicles are co-created by online and offline communities at much lower costs and faster speeds than traditional models. They are working on 3D printed autonomous vehicles and distributed microfactories.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.
Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
