Vector Addition
Learning to add component vectors
into a resultant vector and break the
resultant vector back down.
Analyze the learner
• My students are in 10-12th grade, comprised
of 10 boys and seven girls, 70% of which are
white, 20% are African-American, and 10% are
Hispanic. They are all gifted students who
volunteered to take this class.
Objective
• These students will be able to add and
subtract component vectors to get resultant
vectors. Students will be able to break
directions into N-S and E-W components to
avoid obstacles by the end of the second week
with 90% accuracy.
Day by Day Plan
• Day 1: Component Vectors
• Day 2: Pythagorean Theorem
• Day 3:Basic Trig ratios
• Day 4: Longitude and latitude
• Day 5: Activity-Treasure Hunt
Technology used.
• Mapping program
• Compass
• Word processor
• Calculator
• Topographical map.
• GPS system.
• PowerPoint
