Giuseppe Arcimboldo o Arcimboldi1 (Milan, 5 April 1526 –
11 July 1593) was an Italian painter.
He became famous for his grotesque portraits made with
vegetables, fruit, fish, birds, books, called heads composed.
His most famous works are eight pictures depicting
allegorically the Four Seasons....2
...and the Four Elements of Nature (air, fire, earth, water)3.
We tried to recreate the paintings4.

2. In May, in Milan, where Arcimboldi was born, will begin EXPO 2015, the
Universal Exhibition concerning food and nutrition.
“... more than 140 participating countries will show the best
of their technology that offers a concrete answer to a vital
need: being able to guarantee healthy, safe and sufficient
food for everyone, while respecting the Planet and its
equilibrium.5”
“Foody is the name of the official mascot of Expo Milano
2015. It is given to a face made up of fruits and vegetables
designed by Disney Italia and representing the Universal
Exposition.6”
This is a tribute to the painter Arcimboldi.

3. We took a cue from Foody and Arcimboldi to create ironic portraits
that represent healthy food and junk food.
