Education plays an important role in instilling values in students. Values guide behavior, give life meaning and direction, and help people make moral decisions. Traditional Indian values like spirituality, simplicity, tolerance, and truth help with self-realization and being non-violent. The Indian Constitution also upholds important values like democracy, equality, secularism and socialism. Education can inculcate moral, aesthetic, national, social, professional and religious values in order to create a more tolerant, respectful and equal society according to former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan.
