Values
Values are basic and fundamental beliefs that guide or
motivate attitudes or actions. They help us to determine what is
important to us. Values describe the personal qualities we choose to
embody to guide our actions; the sort of person we want to be; the
manner in which we treat ourselves and others, and our interaction
with the world around us. They provide the general guidelines for
conduct.

Value Education
 “Education without values, as useful as it is, seems rather to make man a
more clever devil.” ― C.S. Lewis.
 In the words of John Dewey (1966), “Value education means primarily to
prize to esteem to appraise, holding it dear and also the act of passing
judgment upon the nature and amount of its value as compared with
something else”.
 Value Education is a process of increasing the overall character of a student,
it also includes character development, personality development and spiritual
development.
Value Education
 Explicit values education is associated with those different pedagogies, methods or programmes that
teachers or educators use in order to create learning experiences for students when it comes to value
questions.
 Implicit values education on the other hand covers those aspects of the educational experience
resulting in value influence learning, which can be related to the concept of hidden curriculum. This
discussion on implicit and explicit raises the philosophical problem of whether or not an unintentional
action can be called education.
Needs of Value Education
 Moral awareness should be endorsed to orient the progress in science & technology
towards the welfare of mankind.
 Common values should be re-discovered to unite human beings with the general
decline of traditional values.
 Teachers pass values to the students both consciously and unconsciously through
their conduct in and out of class rooms. Therefore the need for a consciously planned
value education program is obvious to establish a formal learning.
 The students might face more complicated decision making situations about issues
involving values. They should be helped in developing the ability to make proper
choices in such situations through value education.
Needs of Value Education
Increase in Juvenile delinquency is a crisis to youth who under goes the
process of personal growth. In such situation value education assumes a
special significance.
Value Education awakens curiosity, development of proper interests,
attitudes, values and capacity to think and judge about oneself.
Value Education helps in Promoting Social and Natural Integration.
To teach the values of the culture and society.
To enable them to distinguish between right and wrong
Needs of Value Education
To form the conscience of youngsters.
To continue the traditions of the society.
To make meaningful the practices and belief.
To connect to every human being in the right way.

  • 4. Values Values are basic and fundamental beliefs that guide or motivate attitudes or actions. They help us to determine what is important to us. Values describe the personal qualities we choose to embody to guide our actions; the sort of person we want to be; the manner in which we treat ourselves and others, and our interaction with the world around us. They provide the general guidelines for conduct.
  • 6. Value Education  “Education without values, as useful as it is, seems rather to make man a more clever devil.” ― C.S. Lewis.  In the words of John Dewey (1966), “Value education means primarily to prize to esteem to appraise, holding it dear and also the act of passing judgment upon the nature and amount of its value as compared with something else”.  Value Education is a process of increasing the overall character of a student, it also includes character development, personality development and spiritual development.

Value Education  Explicit values education is associated with those different pedagogies, methods or programmes that teachers or educators use in order to create learning experiences for students when it comes to value questions.  Implicit values education on the other hand covers those aspects of the educational experience resulting in value influence learning, which can be related to the concept of hidden curriculum. This discussion on implicit and explicit raises the philosophical problem of whether or not an unintentional action can be called education.

Needs of Value Education  Moral awareness should be endorsed to orient the progress in science & technology towards the welfare of mankind.  Common values should be re-discovered to unite human beings with the general decline of traditional values.  Teachers pass values to the students both consciously and unconsciously through their conduct in and out of class rooms. Therefore the need for a consciously planned value education program is obvious to establish a formal learning.  The students might face more complicated decision making situations about issues involving values. They should be helped in developing the ability to make proper choices in such situations through value education.
  • 9. Needs of Value Education Increase in Juvenile delinquency is a crisis to youth who under goes the process of personal growth. In such situation value education assumes a special significance. Value Education awakens curiosity, development of proper interests, attitudes, values and capacity to think and judge about oneself. Value Education helps in Promoting Social and Natural Integration. To teach the values of the culture and society. To enable them to distinguish between right and wrong
  • 10. Needs of Value Education To form the conscience of youngsters. To continue the traditions of the society. To make meaningful the practices and belief. To connect to every human being in the right way.
