This document analyzes the value chain of the cotton market in Tanzania using the structure-conduct-performance (SCP) model, identifying competition issues and market actors across five nodes: input supply, production, buying, processing/ginning, and export marketing. The study highlights improvements in growers' share of export prices post-reform, but notes persistent challenges like delayed payments and high input costs, alongside opportunities for growth through contract farming and organic production. Methodologically, it uses qualitative interviews and focus groups to assess market structure and competition dynamics among cotton producers and ginners.
