This document maps the cotton value chain in Ethiopia. It finds that while Ethiopia has over 3 million hectares of land suitable for cotton production, only around 100,000 hectares (3.6%) are currently used. Production costs in Ethiopia are lower than other major cotton producers. The document then analyzes the cotton value chain actors in Ethiopia including input suppliers, farmers, cooperatives, factories and exporters. It identifies opportunities to increase yields and quality as well as constraints along the chain. To improve performance, the document proposes strategies around processes, products, functions and the overall chain.
