INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY
Instructional technology is the
application of technology to enhance
teaching, learning, and assessment.
WEB-BASED INSTRUCTION (WBI)
Web- based instruction is defined as “an innovative approach to
delivering instruction to remote audience, using the web as
medium”(Khan,1997,p.5).
Web-based instruction (WBI) is a hypermedia-based instructional
program which utilizes the attributes and resources of the World
Wide Web to create a meaningful learning environment where
learning is fostered and supported. ( Khan, 1997,p.6).
The use of Web-based instruction increases in the
educational/learning and training domains, many people have
recognized the importance of evaluating its effects on student
WEB-BASED TRAINING (WBT)
In the 1960s, WBT was introduced by Stanford University
instructors experimenting with computer-based elementary
math and reading classes.
By the early 1990s, college instructors delivered lectures,
tutorials and learning assessment projects via email.
By the mid-1990s, computer projectors started appearing
on computer classroom ceilings as technology-based course
development continued throughout the colleges and
universities.
WEB-BASED LEARNING (WBL)
Web-based learning refers to the type of learning that
uses the Internet as an instructional delivery tool to
carry out various learning activities.
Web-based learning consists of instruction programs
using attributes and resources of the Web to create a
meaningful learning and interactive environment. A
form of education where the resources and student
faculty and student-student interactions take place on
the world wide web.
TYPES OF WEB-BASED LEARNING
Formal web-based learning is purposed, and
learning activities are organized by teachers.
Informal web-based learning takes place while
you are searching material from the Internet. It is
self-paced, depending on your goals and
ambition to learn.
TYPES OF WEB-BASED INSTRUCTION
Asynchronous: In asynchronous the education module is to be
installed from a particular website and then we can unpack it
offline on our machine. In this case there is no mutual
interaction of student with teacher.
Synchronous: In synchronous type there is synchronization
among the students and teacher online. This synchronous web-
based education provides the most emerging concept of E-
leaning.
ROLE OF THE WEB IN INSTRUCTIONAL
TECHNOLOGY
Due to networking capability, the Web can play additional
roles. These includes
Promoting and facilitating enrollment into courses
Availing the syllabus or program of instruction
Posting and submitting assignments
Interacting with instructors and fellow students
Collaboration on assignments
Build learning communities.
SIGNIFICANCE OF WBI
Reasons for the growth of WBI includes
Growth of distance education economically (reliable and
inexpensive source) as compared to computer-based training,
live broadcasts, video tapes, and so on.
Enables learners who prefer or are required to learn outside
traditional classrooms to attend classes at their homes or
offices.
Enhancing student learning.
Spending more time with students working in small groups or
one-on-one
SIGNIFICANCE OF WBI
Reducing repetitive teaching tasks.
Reducing paper flow and management.
Providing improved instructional materials.
Web based instruction frees the students from
space and time. In such a setting the students
are to follow the instructional content at their
own learning pace and needs.
ADVANTAGES OF WBI
WBI is auto-instructional or self-instructional.
WBI is cost effective and has flexible timing.
WBI is both formal and non-formal setting of
education.
WBI is very helpful for large group of students.
Learner can also undergo training from any place or
location.
WBI can repeat the lesson several times for the

  • 4. INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY Instructional technology is the application of technology to enhance teaching, learning, and assessment.
  • 5. WEB-BASED INSTRUCTION (WBI) Web- based instruction is defined as “an innovative approach to delivering instruction to remote audience, using the web as medium”(Khan,1997,p.5). Web-based instruction (WBI) is a hypermedia-based instructional program which utilizes the attributes and resources of the World Wide Web to create a meaningful learning environment where learning is fostered and supported. ( Khan, 1997,p.6). The use of Web-based instruction increases in the educational/learning and training domains, many people have recognized the importance of evaluating its effects on student

WEB-BASED TRAINING (WBT) In the 1960s, WBT was introduced by Stanford University instructors experimenting with computer-based elementary math and reading classes. By the early 1990s, college instructors delivered lectures, tutorials and learning assessment projects via email. By the mid-1990s, computer projectors started appearing on computer classroom ceilings as technology-based course development continued throughout the colleges and universities.

WEB-BASED LEARNING (WBL) Web-based learning refers to the type of learning that uses the Internet as an instructional delivery tool to carry out various learning activities. Web-based learning consists of instruction programs using attributes and resources of the Web to create a meaningful learning and interactive environment. A form of education where the resources and student faculty and student-student interactions take place on the world wide web.
  • 8. TYPES OF WEB-BASED LEARNING Formal web-based learning is purposed, and learning activities are organized by teachers. Informal web-based learning takes place while you are searching material from the Internet. It is self-paced, depending on your goals and ambition to learn.
  • 9. TYPES OF WEB-BASED INSTRUCTION Asynchronous: In asynchronous the education module is to be installed from a particular website and then we can unpack it offline on our machine. In this case there is no mutual interaction of student with teacher. Synchronous: In synchronous type there is synchronization among the students and teacher online. This synchronous web- based education provides the most emerging concept of E- leaning.
  • 10. ROLE OF THE WEB IN INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY Due to networking capability, the Web can play additional roles. These includes Promoting and facilitating enrollment into courses Availing the syllabus or program of instruction Posting and submitting assignments Interacting with instructors and fellow students Collaboration on assignments Build learning communities.

SIGNIFICANCE OF WBI Reasons for the growth of WBI includes Growth of distance education economically (reliable and inexpensive source) as compared to computer-based training, live broadcasts, video tapes, and so on. Enables learners who prefer or are required to learn outside traditional classrooms to attend classes at their homes or offices. Enhancing student learning. Spending more time with students working in small groups or one-on-one

SIGNIFICANCE OF WBI Reducing repetitive teaching tasks. Reducing paper flow and management. Providing improved instructional materials. Web based instruction frees the students from space and time. In such a setting the students are to follow the instructional content at their own learning pace and needs.

ADVANTAGES OF WBI WBI is auto-instructional or self-instructional. WBI is cost effective and has flexible timing. WBI is both formal and non-formal setting of education. WBI is very helpful for large group of students. Learner can also undergo training from any place or location. WBI can repeat the lesson several times for the
