The report assesses the usability of five smarter heating controls commissioned by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) to determine their effectiveness in supporting energy-saving behaviors. Findings indicate that none of the controls met the benchmarks for usability, with common issues related to setup complexity, lack of clear instructions, and inadequate feedback, which hindered user performance. The study highlights the importance of improving the design and usability of these controls to encourage better consumer engagement in energy efficiency initiatives.
