Uses And Two Types Of Computer Image Adapting Software
Introduction
For facsimile production, Computer image adapting software can practically be divided into two
types. The first type (which includes programs such as Adobe Photoshop and the open source
Gimp) involves editing the images themselves, e.g., brightness and contrast manipulations, colour
corrections and noise removal. These programs support experienced tools for foreground
/background dissolution. For example, in the case of an inscription s image, ink traces can be
isolated from the background element in order to create a facsimile. In Figs. 1a b, a foreground
/background selection of a character can be observed developing a facsimile of the character in

1.1Illustrator
Adobe Illustrator is an advanced vector based program. So, unlike Photoshop s pixel based layout,
it applies mathematical compositions to create vector graphics. In Illustrator, a line consists of two
dots linked by a computer algorithm, rather than just a line of pixels. As a result of this,
Illustrator is used generally to design logos or anything that may need to be printed or exhibited
at various sizes (Wood, 2016). A vector graphic will never drop its quality if it s scaled up or
down. Illustrator will also give you an improved print output since it s not resolution dependent. A
disadvantage of Illustrator is that it can t be used easily to alter images that are earlier created
since there are definite filters and image editing tools available to you (Wood, 2016).

The Pursuit of Organic Happiness
In today s society, many are looking for the number of owned devices as an example of their
success and pure happiness. From young kids to matured adults an ongoing cycle of needing
materials has taken great importance as if it is a necessity to continue living. However the demand
for such things has corrupt the definition of pure happiness. If one lives in communism they will
ultimately not know the true meaning of pure happiness. This is what comes with the communism
lifestyle. Steering away from the communism crowd is the key to happiness.
Communism is based on what others think you need not what we actually believe we want. In
certain careers it is believed that you need specific brand named clothes, accessories, etc. to be
the best in that specific field. From dancers to doctors, they re all alike in consistently upgrading
his or her processions just as everyone in the world is. However is it always what one wants, or
what one thinks they want because society has instilled the non negotiable need for them to feel
happy. The media has developed in such a way that they now control us as people. For example
in The Grill Buying Guy, David Brooks perfectly exemplifies this when connecting a new grill to
the key to happiness for typical family men in society. He also takes it a step further and explain
how some go the extra mile to buy the grill that cost the most or has the latest details to ensure that
artificial happiness. The guy will end up buying the grill with

Imperialism In Brave New World
figuratively. When such systems of oppressors and the oppressed arise, members of society
begin to question such ideologies. In the Heart of Darkness, Marlow explores the brutality that
lies within the endless inescapable power that is associated with imperialism. He sees past the
materialistic aspects of wealth and interprets the actual reality. This is especially clear when
Marlow expresses that They were dying slowly it was very clear. They were not enemies, they
were not criminals, and they were nothing earthly now nothing but black shadows of disease and
starvation, lying confusedly in the greenish gloom. (Conrad 31). Marlow recognizes that the slaves
casted in chains were not of any threat nor were they dangerous criminals.... Show more content on

Furthermore, his experience in the Congo made him feel that the entire journey was like a weary
pilgrimage amongst hints of nightmares (Conrad 79). Pilgrimage may sound light filled and
blessed with great intentions. However, the goal itself is not so righteous. It is more of an act of
robbery, violence, greed, and power than nobility. Whereas, In Brave New World, John the savage
is a white male who is set aside from both Civilization and the savage reservations. He was born
from an actual womb, which is prohibited by the state, but is also not physically similar to the those
in the savage reservations; therefore, he is excluded by both parties. When Bernard exposes John to
the world state, John feels a sense of disconnection which later drives him into utter madness. For
instance, When Helmholtz and Bernard find John in the bathroom throwing up, they hear John
utter that he ate civilization (Huxley 213) . Civilization had poisoned him; thus he cannot stand the
inhume customs that the new world offers. Although he despised the savage reservations, he misses
the ability to act human. John is left with the hope to recapture everything that civilization no
longer has to offer, including religion, actual

Her father James, who was a successful businessman who had acquired considerable real estate
and was a practising catholic and man of deep faith passed away when she was very young.
However his strong faith servilely impacted her. His inspiring example lead Catherine to persist
being a Catholic her entire life. Which meant going against all the pressures and resisting or the
criticism. Catherine s mother lacked her husbands depth of faith and was much more interested in
her social status within Dublin society than her religion. It was her father who provided her with
the first model of service to the poor through his involvement with those in his own community. The
second death of her parent forced into becoming independant, and growing up much quicker then
she would have hoped. However again this has shaped the way Catherine was, and built her strong
and caring character. Looking for god in this instance help Catherine gain strength to carry on to
inspire and help others along the way. Do not put your trust in any human being, but place all your
confidence in God. (Catherine McAuley 49). Catherine was influence by religion from a very
young age, which has shown significantly throughout her life. Her fathers presence in her life at a
young age was still so impactful that she carried out his religion and pushed through all other
temptations to convert.

Prelude and The Wasteland by T.S. Elliot
In our daily lives, we are too busy to do the things that we always want to do. So, we live lives of
boring repetition. However, we have become adjusted to it so almost none of us complain. T.S.
Eliot was born in St. Louis, Missouri and eventually moved to London, England. Extremely well
educated, Eliot wrote many highly praised poems. For example, The Waste Landwas assembled out
of dramatic vignettes based on Eliot s London life. Another poem, Preludes, talks about the daily
lives of people where it starts off simple, but leads into something deeper than everyday life.
Three reasons why I relate to Preludes by T.S. Eliot are evenings, mornings, and spiritually. In
Preludes by T.S Eliot, a city is being described by all the things that happen in the evening. The
smell of steaks is everywhere. When this poem was composed, steaks were inexpensive and
were commonly eaten by members of the lower class. I can relate to this part of the poem
because my family cooks steaks and my town calms down in the way that the city being described
does. The poem then goes on to describe how a gusty shower wraps the grimy scraps of withered
leaves about your feet and newspapers from vacant lots. The streetsare gross and unattractive and
the street lights flicker on and off. Parts of Worland have grimy looking streets and houses like this
city does. A lonely cab horse chugs along the darkened streets. I believe that part of the poem is
telling us that life is empty at night and everything

The Period Of World War II Essay
The period from World War II till the present has been widely regarded as a period of an
immense amount of social progress. The years following saw vast acceptance of people of various
tenets of faith and colors of skin. One can argue that for a period of time America post WWII, there
was growing amount of acceptance amongst the population, especially with the election of the first
Catholic President, John F. Kennedy. The sentiment of allowing other people continued as quotas
of allowing people from other countries diminished with the Immigration and Nationality Services
Act of 1965 opened up availabilities for Hindus and Muslims to enter the country. With the existing
demographics in this early phases of the post WWII United States, America was definitely making
strides towards becoming a more pluralistic nation, continuing a trend from even before WWII.
Things began to take a reverse shift in the late 1970s as counterculture left white conservative
evangelists thinking that the new generations were preventing their stronghold of the country.
America has been a less pluralistic nation ever since the Reagan Revolution and the rightward shift
of the white demographic and the new religious right, the attacks on 9/11, and just recently with
the election of Donald Trump. All of these events have elicited feelings of subliminal prejudice
against minority religious sects, such as the of the Islamic faith. Scholars tend to agree that
progress was being made directly after World

Descriptive Essay About Rubber Ducky
Aroused and adrenalized, I was dancing uncontrollably as I held my premium collection of
rubber duckies I won from my school fundraiser. The award for selling the most items was
getting a chance to celebrate on a party bus, but the only thing I felt devoted for were those tiny
rubber duckies that couldn t even float. No matter how many times its paint would chip off its
beak, I felt exceedingly satisfied with myself for the immense amount of ducks I owned. From my
cheerleader duckto my dragon duck, I idolized them all.
I went into my mom s room to fetch my sparkly keychain to hang my duckies on. As I grabbed my
lanyard, I noticed my sister s reflection playing with rubber duckies, on the mirror of the vanity. I

What are you doing? She hollered as she hauled the lanyard in her direction. Taking what should
be mine! I yelled back while I pulled on my end.
Unanticipatedly, the metal ring that attached both ends of the lanyard snapped, leaving both of us
tumbling backwards on the bed. All of the ducks were scattered, as they rolled beneath the bed and
became less visible in sight.
Without any warning, she started to hit me with a great force. Every hit she threw at me made my
anger intensify rapidly. HA! That s what you deserve for trying to steal my ducks! She roared. You
have no right to touch my property! She said as she continued to hit me.
I clenched my teeth and stood up, as my eyes were overflowing with rage. I took my fingernails
and started to swing them in hasty circles, only managing to make contact with her flesh a couple
of times. Exasperated and outraged, my sister swatted my arms away. Then, I felt a powerful force
make contact with stomach. I glanced down and noticed that her foot was touching my stomach.
I felt myself descending as the air from the ceiling fan washed over my face. The vision of my
sister standing on the bed, got diminutive in size. I descended even more until I felt my back
bone hit a rigid surface. I was bracing myself for death as I hit the cold, tiled floor. All I could

Reflection Paper On Communication
Analysis Communication
Communication is essential in all facets of an organization. It can aid in decision making, planning
and conflict resolution. The ability to effectively communicate allows facilitation of relationships
between superiors and subordinates; essentially this creates higher job satisfaction (Dogra, A.,
2012). Open communication where employees have opportunity to voice their ideas and concerns,
corelates to employees feeling a sense of value within the organization, which creates motivation
(Dogra, A., 2012). Furthermore, in conjunction with these ideas, a sense of partnership and loyalty
begin to develop between subordinates and superiors. The responses to this are typically seen in
greater responsibility being given to the subordinate.
Reflection on DFS Communication
At the start of my placement, I was anxious, and scared all at the same time. I had never worked
with youth before, or had a background in it. I was essentially thrown right in, and now I realize
that is the only way to become acquainted with this type of work. Early on open communication
allowed me to ask questions, and gain perspective on things I was unaware of. Before long I was
communicating ideas and concerns to superiors formally, and informally. It did not take long for
increased roles and responsibilities within the program and organization.
There was one scenario where as a youth worker I was able to provide assistance to an individual
who was threatening his own life.

How Gender Roles Have Played A Big Part Of The History Essay
Gender roles have played a big part of the history of this country and in this new day and age are
becoming more progressive. Women in men gender roles are not at all such a horrendous idea. In
some cases, jobs traditionally performed by men, were done better by female employees but some
some careers are specifically meant for men. Women should not take part in militarycombat or any
career that carries the same physical demands. Here are two examples accompanied by arguments
an evidence that argue the above statement.
In this film a team of astronauts is forced to make a decision that leaves one of their own behind.
During a violent storm, while on Mars, commander Lewis (Jessica Chastain) is forced to leave
one of her astronauts when Mark Watney is struck by debris. He is presumed dead and is
considered a great loss to NASA, the Nation. Soon enough headquarters discovers that Watney is
alive and they begin to formulate a resupply and rescue mission. When NASA reveals to the Ares
III crew that Watney is still alive, they are given the choice to retrieve Watney themselves. As the
crew begins to work together to get Watney back, they run into vital issues that could cause theirs
and Watney s death. (The Martian, 2015)
Now when a person thinks of a commander, a male figure comes to mind. For example, the
Commander in Chief is the nation s president whom has been a man the past forty five
presidencies. The commander of the Ares III is Melissa Lewis, despite being a woman, her

The issue of contraceptives is mainly seen as a reproductive rights and women s rights issue;
touching on the Pro Life v Pro Choice debate. With contraceptives, women can be seen to be given

over their own bodies and select choices as they see fit. Having religiously affiliated organizations
refusing to fulfill the requirements of the ACA limits the autonomy of female employees. It can
also be argued that this issue infringes on the employees First Amendment rights. Proponents of the

Children Should Get Their Children Vaccinated
Exposing a child to a virus or disease strand, no matter how small the dosage, is frightening. There
are multiple complications that come with it but I believe that the benefits outweigh the costs.
Vaccines have saved the world billions of dollars and have been the reason behind the decline of
deadly diseases such as smallpox and measles. Some parents are against vaccinations because they
feel as if the outcomes are unreliable. Parents should get their children vaccinated because it helps
lower the infections and diseases related to mortality rates, is a smart financial investment, and is
considerate to the lives of those around them.
Vaccinations contributes to the overall suppression of a disease. The more children that are
vaccinated, the lower the reports of infection and deaths due to a disease are. The Center for
Disease Control, in an article supporting immunizations, mentions a case in Japan where 80% of the
children were vaccinated for pertussis, or whooping cough. That same year the number of deaths
reported were zero and the infection count was below 400 children. After a while, parents stopped
thinking that their children needed to be vaccinated. That following year only 10% of the children
were vaccinated, which resulted in the death rate increasing by 41% and the number of infections
being thirty two times larger than the previous year. When comparing and contrasting the years,
whether not a child got the vaccination proves to be a huge factor in determining

European Exploration
During the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries small groups financed by private businesses carried
out the first phase of European exploration. Members of the noble or merchant class typically
funded these early expeditions. Over time, as it became clear that global exploration was
extremely profitable, European states took on a primary role. The next phase of exploration
involved voyages taken in the name of a particular empire and monarch (e.g., France or Spain).
The Iberian empires of Spain and Portugal were some of the earliest states to embark on new
voyages of exploration. In addition to seeking luxury goods, the Spanish empire was driven by its
quest for American silver. The age of European exploration and discovery represented a new period

Puritans And The American Ethos And Democratic Spirit
Puritans founded America, and for roughly two centuries, defined American culture. Their
zealousness has created cultural backlashes to many progressive movements, but also organized
community picnics, sent aid to impoverished populations (albeit with perverse logic), and
comforted millions of Americans, both now and in the past, facing an uncertain world. Tocqueville
unequivocally professed the proverbial glue Puritanism has on the American ethos and democratic
spirit: Puritanism was not merely a religious doctrine, but it corresponded in many points with the
most absolute democratic and republican theories. But American religiosity is diminishing. Other
forces like materialism, globalism, humanism, and science continue to push the world into a new
frontier. Between 2007 and 2014, adults who are religiously affiliated dropped 6%; though, 77%
percent of Americans are religiously affiliated and 58% find religion very important and those
who identify strongly with religion continue to have the same intensity in belief. With the election
of Donald Trump, many see the dark side of this puritan spirit rising, the parts entangled with our
country s deepest, darkest roots: more racism, sexism, and jingoism. Undeniably, more of these
insidious weeds have sprouted in our democratic field as of late, despite always being hidden a
mere few feet below the surface. Reports continue to abound of individuals being harassed, lockers

When I joined O.K.D. in 2012, it was very challenging, as I was playing with experienced athletes.
As a result, my performance was not at par, thus the coaches did not select me to play at

Mao Zedong Leader
Mao Zedong was the most influential Chinese leader of the twentieth century. Mao a Communist
politician and Marxist Ideologist is most renowned for the unification of China and the creator of
the People Republic of China. He governed as Chairman of the Communist Part of China for
twenty seven years. Among his many accomplishment were his military feats, pushing a national
self reliance and spurring China into the modern age. However, Mao s rule was not without its
failures. He his criticized for being a ruthless dictator, responsible for harsh living conditions and
the death of thousands of Chinese people. Never the less Mao had a great impact and is
responsible for the nation and world power that China is today.
Mao s rise to power was an interesting journey, because of his very humble beginnings. He was
Born on December 26, 1893 into a peasant family in Shaoshan in the Hunan province of central
China. From a young age, Mao showed a great intelligence and a desire for knowledge. He
attended a local primary school at the age of eight, but received little education. To satisfy his
appetite for learning Mao was an avid reader. By the time, he thirteen he was working the fields
alongside his father, a grain farmer. Mao rejected the life his father had planned for him. Mao s
great ambitions caused conflicts between him and his father. When he turned eighteen Mao left
home for Changsha, the province capital, to enrolled in a secondary school. During this time, in
1911, revolution was growing against the monarchy. Mao joined the Revolutionary army and the

Essay about Social Classes in Wuthering Heights
Social Classes in Wuthering Heights
Wuthering Heights, a gothic novel written by Emily Bronte in the early nineteenth century,
describes the conflict and the passionate bond between Catherine Earnshaw and her rough but
romantic lover,
Heathcliff. In the beginning of the book, Heathcliff, an orphan is made a part of the Earnshaw
family. This adoption is not readily accepted by the older brother, Hindley, who sees the new
child as a rival to his claim of dominance in the family. However, Catherine, the sister is quickly
attracted to young Heathcliff, so different from anyone she had ever known. As the two grow
older, Heathcliff finds himself falling in love with Catherine. Mr. Earnshaw soon dies, leaving
Hindley in charge of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Heathcliff is so desperate for acceptance that he is willing to cheat people to gain the property he
craves. By doing so he hopes to show
Catherine that he is worthy of her, a landowner in his own right.
After Catherine accepts Edgar s proposal, she seeks out Nelly and tells here that [I]t would
degrade [her] to marry Heathcliff now; so he shall never know how [she] love[s] him; and that, not
because he s handsome, Nelly, but because he s more [herself] than [she] [is].
Whatever [their] souls are made of, his and [hers] are the same, and
Linton s is as different as a moonbeam from lightning, or frost from fire. (Page 74, lines 29 33).
Heathcliff overhears this conversation between Nelly and Catherine and leaves Wuthering Heights
after hearing Catherine say that it would degrade her to marry him.
Heathcliff tries to make himself more presentable to Catherine by moving up the social system.
However, he does this by cheating and taking advantage of people. Heathcliff takes advantage of
Hindley s state of alcoholism and takes over Wuthering Heights. Heathcliff also takes advantage of
Edgar Linton s will my making young Catherine (the daughter of Catherine Earnshaw and Edgar
Linton) marry Linton (the son of Heathcliff and Isabella Linton) so he could acquire Thrushcross
Grange (where Edgar Linton lives).
Bronte seems to have mixed opinions of the lower class by characterizing Heathcliff positively and
negatively. Lockwood,

The Redemption of King Lear?
Shakespeare s play, King Lear is quite renowned and the folly of the ancient King is a
great example of how not to handle family relationships. The question has been proposed
if King Lear is redeemed when reunited with Cordelia. King Lear does achieve a kind of
redemption when he is reunited with Cordelia in Acts IV and V of the tragedy. What kind
of redemption he achieves is open to interpretation. In order to understand the King s
redemption, it must be determined what the King is redeemed from. Once this sin is

Schedule computation or schedule communication helps to optimize utilization and keep running
time low. Several works propose to improve job scheduling by preserving data locality maintaining
fair allocation among multiple resource types or discarding time consuming tasks. Even with
optimal computation scheduling, the cluster network can still become a blockage. The optimization
of network transfers can be done by improving the flow bandwidth allocation or by dynamically
changing paths in response to demand. These approaches need accurate and timely application
demand information, obtained either from the application itself through instrumentation, which is
quick and accurate but intrusive, or from the network through monitoring , which does not require
application involvement, but can be expensive, slow, and detects changes in demand only after they
have occurred.
FlowComb also uses MapReduce framework to influence the design of the system. MapReduce
provides a divide and conquer data processing model, where large workloads are split into
smaller tasks, each processed by a single server in a cluster (the map phase). The results of each
task are sent over the cluster network (the shuffle phase) and merged to obtain the final result
(the reduce phase). The network footprint of a MapReduce job consists pre dominantly of traffic

A Life Defined by a Single Moment in Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter, Stephen Crane s Red Badge
of Courage, and Dostoevsky s Crime and Punishment
Life can be changed by a decision made during a single moment. Despite the natural gifts of
courage or intelligence of a person, a single mistake can isolate him from the rest of society. In
one case this can be cause by public conception. The public believes that this person is morally
inferior and singles out that person for ridicule. However, it can also be self imposed isolation.
Either way, that person cannot rejoin his society until he has redeemed himself.
In Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter, both kinds of moral isolation are examined. Hester Prynne is

As a result, a mark that resembles an A appears on his chest as a symbol of his guilt, and while
Hester grows stronger because of her redemptive acts, Dimmesdale grows weaker because he has
believed all of his life that confession is the only relief from guilt. He tries to rationalize his
omission to his congregation by telling himself that he will serve the people better as a preacher, but
he is an intelligent man and cannot convince himself of a lie. After seven years of physical and
mental depreciation, he can only find redemption by joining Hester on the scaffold and revealing
his own scarlet letter. For Hester and Dimmesdale s one lapse in judgment and self control, their
lives were completely changed.
Henry in The Red Badge of Courage is an example of a person whose life is changed due to a
brief moment of cowardice. Though his original intention was to join the army and to become a
hero, when he is first confronted with a real battle, he runs. Once he regains his senses, he is
terribly ashamed and does his best not to reveal his momentary desertion to the other soldiers. His
relief comes from what he believes to be a heroic deed. When he goes into battle again, instead of
running, he settles into a rhythm of loading and firing his gun until the enemy had retreated and his
own army had stopped shooting. Though this reaction stems from the same fear that caused him to
run, Henry

April 29th 2015
Competence in cross cultural communication and understanding cultural differences is becoming
more crucial in today s society. Technology is advancing in a rapid pace and is allowing more
opportunities in migration therefore existing countries has never had so much to do with each other
until today. As a result of becoming inter connected, global business is progressing rapidly. Majority
of countries are participating in global business transactions, international alliances and
multinational joint ventures. However, recent studies suggest that these organizations often find
failure as a result of poor cross cultural communication. Researches have analyzed the aspects of
effective cross cultural communication, how it affects business communication and why the
communication is ineffective when it is. According to Becker Bsat (2014), learning the skills of
proper behavior on an international level is one of the most important elements necessary for
business success and growth. Chaney Martin s (2007) analysis suggest that there is international
business culture which defines acceptable behavior and orientation in an international social and
business setting. Although Beckers Bsat (2014) did not title their research international business
culture , their work aligns with Chaney and Martin s (2007) claims. Beckers Bsat (2014) used the

Chicken Wings Mystery Behind
Chicken Wings: The Mystery Behind
Chicken wings are among the top foods consumed by Americans each year. As a country we eat
an average of twenty five billion chicken wings per year, so we can see chicken wings are a food
many people have come to enjoy enjoy just half a century. A Buffalo wing is a chicken wingette
or drumette that is deep fried, unbreaded, and coated in vinegar based cayenne pepper hot sauce
and butter. (Wells Lynch). They have grown in popularity immensely and have now been
considered a classic American food for over half a century now. Although boneless chicken wings
are considered to be the most popular style of wings nowadays and the common flavors of wings

Approximately fifty three years ago on March 4, 1964 Teressa Bellissimo, the owner of The
Anchor Bar, created the very first batch of chicken wings out of necessity. Teressa Bellissimo
basically had to put together the recipe after wrongfully receiving a shipment of wings instead of
chicken. By this time, the wings of the chicken were one of the least desired parts of the chicken.
Today, the bar that still claims to be the home of the original Buffalowing, and its modern day
menu offers up a purportedly authentic story from the son of the original owners, claiming that
his mom made the wings as a one off late night snack for him and his friends (Thompson). Since
chicken wings were once considered a scrap meat and were really cheap she typically used them
in her soups at the bar. On this particular night she was trying to get rid of her extra chicken
wings because she was not going to be able to make enough soup to use them all up. Therefore,
she decided to deep fry the extra wings that she was not going to use in the soup. Once they were
cooked to a crispy golden brown she tossed them in some hot sauce and served them to the late
night customers that were present. That night she served the wings with a couple celery sticks and
a small cup of blue cheese. This traditional side choice compliments the buffalo wings so well and it
stuck. Today this is something that is still carried on by all restaurants that serve chicken wings.
As pointed out previously, chicken wings can come in different styles such as traditional naked,
traditional breaded, and boneless. Yet, The Anchor Bar is known for creating the naked boneless
wing, which has no breading on the outside of the meet. This is one of the main differences
between The Anchor Bar s wings and the wings from John Young s Wing n Things

The Effects Of Space Debris
Since the early years of the space age in 1957, scientists have immensely contributed to our
understanding of the Solar System and beyond by conducting numerous space missions. However,
with Earth s atmosphere encircled by debris from defunct space crafts, the future of the space
exploration may be at great risk. Space debris, or space junk is the waste byproduct of non
functioning spacecraftand spacecraft fragments in Earth s orbit (NASA 2017). This paper
examines the origin of space debris, how debris threatens the future of spaceflight, and possible
measures to mitigate the effects of space debris.
Debris origin
A Mission related debris. Space scientists sometimes overlook the amount of debris ejected into
space during the satellite launch process. In fact, satellite launches are responsible for
approximately 12 percent of the current space debris in Earth s orbit (International Academy of
Astronautics 2005). During the launch process, satellites eject debris of varying sizes into space.
Some of the debris stays in space much longer than others. For example, the upper stage of the
satellite s launch vehicle has pyrotechnic fasteners, usually explosive bolts or nuts, that separate
violently during the launch of the satellite. This type of debris, which can vary widely in size,
may roam around the Lower Earth Orbit (LEO) an orbit around Earth with an altitude of 2,000
kilometers or less for nearly two weeks before they return to Earth s atmosphere (Dunn 2008).

Analysis Of The Machine Stops
The Machine Stops is a short, science fiction story written by E.M. Forester. Set in a post
apocolypic dystopian society, the two main characters, Vashti and Kuno, as well as everyone else,
live underground with the help of the Machine. The Machine provides every single person and
their needs, including the air they breath, because the surface of the Earth can no longer sustain
mankind. Not only does the Machine give every necessity to its people, it also provides the Book,
which contains rules to help the people survive. This often leads the people to worship the
Machine as a type of deity. In the book The Machine Stops, which was written by E.M. Forester,
the main characters Vashti and Kuno have multiple differences with few similarites. Vashti and
Kuno are completely different in apperance. When being introduced to Vashti, the book
describes her as a swaddled lump of flesh a woman, about five feet high, with a face as white as a
fungus. (Forester 1). This is a very strong and disturbing representation of a women. This implies
that Vashti doesn t move much due to inactiveness, and also implies that she doesn t go outside
much, more or less because of the fact that she lives underground. On the other hand, Kuno has a
very athletic build. When being introduced to Kuno, we learn that he was sent away as a baby

Chinese traders began exchanging tea and silver to The East India Company for a return of
Bengali opium imports. Consequently, as the opium addicts rose, so did the supply and demand of
exports from Great Britain to China. The ensuing drug trafficking accordingly corrupted many
Chinese officials. The opium cartel held by The East India Company made other British agents
unhappy, as they too wanted trading monopolies with China in areas such as industrialized
textiles. By 1834, Great Britain directed Lord Napier to bypass the commerce authority in China,
the Cohong, and negotiate matters of trade with China s governor general who declined any
business agreements for the reason that the Chinese saw no reason to sully their dignity by
dealing with barbarians . (pp. 298) Hence, in 1839, when Imperial Commissioner Lin Zexu arrived
in the Chinese trading port of Guangzhou to suppress the opium transfer, war broke out between
Great Britain and China. Commissioner Zexu was successful in eradicating the opium from the
port, yet the Opium War was a defeat for the Chinese and their morality. Queen Victoria of Great
Britain quickly retaliated on China and gained British compensation to their exported commodities
and an agreement from China for the repayment to British peddlers for their destroyed property.

Americans have a rich theatrical history and american music is very diverse. Two styles are
shown, classical and rock n roll. Mia play the cello and plays classical musical music while her
family and Adam are into rock n roll. It relates to how music impacts american lives. Mia is
applying to Juilliard, one of the renown music schools. Adam is in a rock n roll band. Everyone in
school knows who Adam is but not Mia because she plays classical music which is not commonly
likable today. Not a lot of americans listen to classical american regularly. The movie accurately
portrays music likability throughout the movie.
If I stay was an amazing, emotional movie about the realities of death and young romance. The
character are well developed and viewers become emotionally attached to the Mia s family from the
start. Even though it is the average sappy, sob story of the death of a family it still creates an
emotional attachment that makes the viewer to continue to

Unilineal Cultural Evolution
From Unilineal Cultural Evolution to Functionalism Several anthropological theories emerged
during the early twentieth century. Arguably, the most important of these was Functionalism.
Bronislaw Malinowski was a prominent anthropologist in Britain during that time and had great
influence on the development of this theory. Malinowski suggested that individuals have certain
physiological needs and that cultures develop to meet those needs. Malinowski saw those needs as
being nutrition, reproduction, shelter, and protection from enemies. He also proposed that there
were other basic, culturallyderived needs and he saw these as being economics, social control,
education, and political organization Malinowski proposed that the culture... Show more content on

She described cultures as being of four types Apollonian, Dionysian, Paranoid and Meglomaniac.
Benedict used these types to characterize various cultures that she studied.
The most famous exponent of the school of Culture and Personality is Margaret Mead. Margaret
Mead was a student of Franz Boas and Ruth Benedict. Though in the course of her career she
would eclipse the fame of her tutors, particularly the latter. Mead s first field study was on the
Pacific Island of Samoa, where she studied the lives of the adolescent girls in that culture. From this
field study, she produced her famous work Coming of Age in Samoa (1949). In this work, she
investigated the relationship between culture and personality by comparing the lives of adolescents
in Samoa to those of American youths. She concentrated particularly on the sexual experiences of
the girls she studied in Samoan culture; drawing the conclusion that the sexually permissive
atmosphere of Samoan culture produced healthier less stormy adolescents than that of her own
more repressed American culture.
The theories of Culture and Personality and Functionalism addressed and rebutted many of the more
quaint aspects of the Evolutionary and Diffusionist theories of the nineteenth century. The
methodology developed by these pioneers is still in use by anthropologists today. That is,
participant observation and a complete involvement in the culture and language of the people being

Essay On Petroleum Products
In the article, On the Limitation of the Term Petroleum Products in the Determination of the Oil
Pollution of Bottom Sediments (2017), Z.A Temerdashev (also this article s corresponding author),
L.F. Pavlenko, I.G. Korpakova, and G.V. Skrypnik et al. investigate the overuse of the term
petroleum products upon measuring levels of exposure to toxins, carcinogens, and mutagens in
bottom sediments of the Sea of Azov the Black Sea, as well as identify a more effective way of
studying this concept. Through the process of bioaccumulation, toxic bottom sediments disrupt the
food chain of organisms living the the ocean. Although scientists, along with much of the world s

1124). Due to substances which were co extracted by TLC (non petroleum substances), a limitation
of determination pertaining to quantities of asphalts and tars was noted. A discovery of a more
effective route of determining individual properties within petroleum products was observed: the
luminescence method (natural water and a UV light) (pp. 1122).
I found the following study to be very useful in regards to further environmental planning, as well
as a waste management reference for upcoming generations. However, I feel as if the article could
have benefitted moreso by specifically including more detail pertaining to the study they conducted.
For instance, the author included a brief reference to other researchers interested in a similar area
of study as the article being discussed, but neglected to include information about the legitimate
statistics (in reference to sample size of bottom sediment studied), as well as failed to state any
sense of control area (pp. 1124). In a study designed to improve quality of water, as well as plan for
better waste management, a control group would have helped the reader to better comprehend the
severity of complex individual components involved in petroleum products. Despite the study s
quantitative data limitations, the research conducted was ultimately successful. Considering that
the the luminescence method was consequently admitted into Russia s State List of Procedures for
the State Ecological

Colin Powell Pros And Cons
Who is Colin Powell? He is a retired four star General in the United States Army. He was also the
65th United States Secretary of State (2001 2005), serving under President George W. Bush.
Powell was the first and only African American to serve in that position to date and was an
exemplary leader of many facets. Colin Powellhas spent a majority of his life serving our Nation
and is a decorated Army veteran. Powell developed 18 principles in Leadershipbased off of his
experiences and these principles could be applied to develop better Leaders. I feel that I could
relate to several of his principles but the three that I identify with the most are you don t know
what you can get away with until you try, don t be afraid to challenge the pros, even in their own
backyard and lastly to have fun in your command.
Colin Powell s principle that states you don t know what you can get away with until you try
sticks out to me the most because it s how I ve lived my life thus far. My favorite quote is to ask
for forgiveness and never for permission. My entire military career has been full of moments of my
exercising Mission Commands disciplined initiative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is something that translates to any career field or aspect in life. I have spent 12 years in the
military and have never allowed the status quo to dictate my endeavors. Challenging the pros is
an aspect I believe that drives the term perfect your craft. In the wild the male lion has a pride
that he must protect but no matter how strong the lion, there is always a younger and stronger lion
that will eventually dethrone him. In our profession we must not stray away from challenging
those we seek to emulate and following them blindly for like the lion there will eventually be a
younger lion with his eyes on the pride. As Colin Powells principle states learn from the pros,
observe them...but remember even the pros may have leveled

1) Select a technology from 1850 to the present. Describe how it has affected productivity
A technology that comes to mind is server virtualization. We use them every day in the
government as we work toward going green, lower cost, increasing productivity. Since the
migration to the virtual servers we were able to cut paper files by Вѕ. We use a digital contract file
now instead of a 6 pile folder with hundreds of page. Another reason the army has choosing to go
this way is so it can spread the cost of maintenance and repair across several customers with shared
servers. This results in a lower price per base. Then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Manages are continually reviewing what they provide better. Given ongoing changes in the
competitive environment with new competitors, new demands and new technologies adding value
is a dynamic process. Managers need to be looking constantly at the business environment to
identify changes that could be of value to them or could possibly harm them. Interestingly any
change will have different effects on different organizations.
(3) The computer especially the PC is believed to be responsible for much of the increased
productivity in the 1990s. What do think will be the next big thing to have a major impact on
national and global productivity?
The next big thing that will have a major impact on the national and global productivity is the
advancements in wireless technology. In today s time there are millions of mobile professionals
worldwide due to the major strides that the wireless community has taken. Organizations use
wireless technologies to solve every day problems and create an advantage over their companion.
Using wireless technologies help them work more productively, by having better customer
satisfaction, which means an increase of sales. Organization is finding that wireless has provided
more flexibility to configure an office and can improve both the productivity and the moral in the
work place.
New standards based technologies offer improved methods to authenticate and better secure devices,

  • 2. Uses And Two Types Of Computer Image Adapting Software Introduction For facsimile production, Computer image adapting software can practically be divided into two types. The first type (which includes programs such as Adobe Photoshop and the open source Gimp) involves editing the images themselves, e.g., brightness and contrast manipulations, colour corrections and noise removal. These programs support experienced tools for foreground /background dissolution. For example, in the case of an inscription s image, ink traces can be isolated from the background element in order to create a facsimile. In Figs. 1a b, a foreground /background selection of a character can be observed developing a facsimile of the character in Fig. 1c. The second type of image adapting software (such as Adobe Illustrator ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So, unlike Photoshop s pixel based layout, it applies mathematical compositions to create vector graphics. In Illustrator, a line consists of two dots linked by a computer algorithm, rather than just a line of pixels. As a result of this, Illustrator is used generally to design logos or anything that may need to be printed or exhibited at various sizes (Wood, 2016). A vector graphic will never drop its quality if it s scaled up or down. Illustrator will also give you an improved print output since it s not resolution dependent. A disadvantage of Illustrator is that it can t be used easily to alter images that are earlier created since there are definite filters and image editing tools available to you (Wood, 2016). • 4. The Pursuit of Organic Happiness In today s society, many are looking for the number of owned devices as an example of their success and pure happiness. From young kids to matured adults an ongoing cycle of needing materials has taken great importance as if it is a necessity to continue living. However the demand for such things has corrupt the definition of pure happiness. If one lives in communism they will ultimately not know the true meaning of pure happiness. This is what comes with the communism lifestyle. Steering away from the communism crowd is the key to happiness. Communism is based on what others think you need not what we actually believe we want. In certain careers it is believed that you need specific brand named clothes, accessories, etc. to be the best in that specific field. From dancers to doctors, they re all alike in consistently upgrading his or her processions just as everyone in the world is. However is it always what one wants, or what one thinks they want because society has instilled the non negotiable need for them to feel happy. The media has developed in such a way that they now control us as people. For example in The Grill Buying Guy, David Brooks perfectly exemplifies this when connecting a new grill to the key to happiness for typical family men in society. He also takes it a step further and explain how some go the extra mile to buy the grill that cost the most or has the latest details to ensure that artificial happiness. The guy will end up buying the grill with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Imperialism In Brave New World figuratively. When such systems of oppressors and the oppressed arise, members of society begin to question such ideologies. In the Heart of Darkness, Marlow explores the brutality that lies within the endless inescapable power that is associated with imperialism. He sees past the materialistic aspects of wealth and interprets the actual reality. This is especially clear when Marlow expresses that They were dying slowly it was very clear. They were not enemies, they were not criminals, and they were nothing earthly now nothing but black shadows of disease and starvation, lying confusedly in the greenish gloom. (Conrad 31). Marlow recognizes that the slaves casted in chains were not of any threat nor were they dangerous criminals.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, his experience in the Congo made him feel that the entire journey was like a weary pilgrimage amongst hints of nightmares (Conrad 79). Pilgrimage may sound light filled and blessed with great intentions. However, the goal itself is not so righteous. It is more of an act of robbery, violence, greed, and power than nobility. Whereas, In Brave New World, John the savage is a white male who is set aside from both Civilization and the savage reservations. He was born from an actual womb, which is prohibited by the state, but is also not physically similar to the those in the savage reservations; therefore, he is excluded by both parties. When Bernard exposes John to the world state, John feels a sense of disconnection which later drives him into utter madness. For instance, When Helmholtz and Bernard find John in the bathroom throwing up, they hear John utter that he ate civilization (Huxley 213) . Civilization had poisoned him; thus he cannot stand the inhume customs that the new world offers. Although he despised the savage reservations, he misses the ability to act human. However his strong faith servilely impacted her. His inspiring example lead Catherine to persist being a Catholic her entire life. Which meant going against all the pressures and resisting or the criticism. Catherine s mother lacked her husbands depth of faith and was much more interested in her social status within Dublin society than her religion. It was her father who provided her with the first model of service to the poor through his involvement with those in his own community. The second death of her parent forced into becoming independant, and growing up much quicker then she would have hoped. • 8. Prelude and The Wasteland by T.S. Elliot In our daily lives, we are too busy to do the things that we always want to do. So, we live lives of boring repetition. However, we have become adjusted to it so almost none of us complain. T.S. Eliot was born in St. Louis, Missouri and eventually moved to London, England. Extremely well educated, Eliot wrote many highly praised poems. For example, The Waste Landwas assembled out of dramatic vignettes based on Eliot s London life. Another poem, Preludes, talks about the daily lives of people where it starts off simple, but leads into something deeper than everyday life. Three reasons why I relate to Preludes by T.S. Eliot are evenings, mornings, and spiritually. In Preludes by T.S Eliot, a city is being described by all the things that happen in the evening. The smell of steaks is everywhere. When this poem was composed, steaks were inexpensive and were commonly eaten by members of the lower class. I can relate to this part of the poem because my family cooks steaks and my town calms down in the way that the city being described does. The poem then goes on to describe how a gusty shower wraps the grimy scraps of withered leaves about your feet and newspapers from vacant lots. The streetsare gross and unattractive and the street lights flicker on and off. Parts of Worland have grimy looking streets and houses like this city does. A lonely cab horse chugs along the darkened streets. I believe that part of the poem is telling us that life is empty at night and everything ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The years following saw vast acceptance of people of various tenets of faith and colors of skin. One can argue that for a period of time America post WWII, there was growing amount of acceptance amongst the population, especially with the election of the first Catholic President, John F. Kennedy. The sentiment of allowing other people continued as quotas of allowing people from other countries diminished with the Immigration and Nationality Services Act of 1965 opened up availabilities for Hindus and Muslims to enter the country. With the existing demographics in this early phases of the post WWII United States, America was definitely making strides towards becoming a more pluralistic nation, continuing a trend from even before WWII. Things began to take a reverse shift in the late 1970s as counterculture left white conservative evangelists thinking that the new generations were preventing their stronghold of the country. America has been a less pluralistic nation ever since the Reagan Revolution and the rightward shift of the white demographic and the new religious right, the attacks on 9/11, and just recently with the election of Donald Trump. All of these events have elicited feelings of subliminal prejudice against minority religious sects, such as the of the Islamic faith. The award for selling the most items was getting a chance to celebrate on a party bus, but the only thing I felt devoted for were those tiny rubber duckies that couldn t even float. No matter how many times its paint would chip off its beak, I felt exceedingly satisfied with myself for the immense amount of ducks I owned. From my cheerleader duckto my dragon duck, I idolized them all. I went into my mom s room to fetch my sparkly keychain to hang my duckies on. All of the ducks were scattered, as they rolled beneath the bed and became less visible in sight. Without any warning, she started to hit me with a great force. Every hit she threw at me made my anger intensify rapidly. HA! That s what you deserve for trying to steal my ducks! She roared. You have no right to touch my property! She said as she continued to hit me. I clenched my teeth and stood up, as my eyes were overflowing with rage. I took my fingernails and started to swing them in hasty circles, only managing to make contact with her flesh a couple of times. Exasperated and outraged, my sister swatted my arms away. • 12. Reflection Paper On Communication Analysis Communication Communication is essential in all facets of an organization. It can aid in decision making, planning and conflict resolution. The ability to effectively communicate allows facilitation of relationships between superiors and subordinates; essentially this creates higher job satisfaction (Dogra, A., 2012). Open communication where employees have opportunity to voice their ideas and concerns, corelates to employees feeling a sense of value within the organization, which creates motivation (Dogra, A., 2012). Furthermore, in conjunction with these ideas, a sense of partnership and loyalty begin to develop between subordinates and superiors. The responses to this are typically seen in greater responsibility being given to the subordinate. Reflection on DFS Communication At the start of my placement, I was anxious, and scared all at the same time. I had never worked with youth before, or had a background in it. I was essentially thrown right in, and now I realize that is the only way to become acquainted with this type of work. Early on open communication allowed me to ask questions, and gain perspective on things I was unaware of. Before long I was communicating ideas and concerns to superiors formally, and informally. It did not take long for increased roles and responsibilities within the program and organization. There was one scenario where as a youth worker I was able to provide assistance to an individual who was threatening his own life. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. How Gender Roles Have Played A Big Part Of The History Essay Gender roles have played a big part of the history of this country and in this new day and age are becoming more progressive. Women in men gender roles are not at all such a horrendous idea. In some cases, jobs traditionally performed by men, were done better by female employees but some some careers are specifically meant for men. Women should not take part in militarycombat or any career that carries the same physical demands. Here are two examples accompanied by arguments an evidence that argue the above statement. In this film a team of astronauts is forced to make a decision that leaves one of their own behind. During a violent storm, while on Mars, commander Lewis (Jessica Chastain) is forced to leave one of her astronauts when Mark Watney is struck by debris. He is presumed dead and is considered a great loss to NASA, the Nation. Soon enough headquarters discovers that Watney is alive and they begin to formulate a resupply and rescue mission. When NASA reveals to the Ares III crew that Watney is still alive, they are given the choice to retrieve Watney themselves. As the crew begins to work together to get Watney back, they run into vital issues that could cause theirs and Watney s death. (The Martian, 2015) Now when a person thinks of a commander, a male figure comes to mind. • 16. Children Should Get Their Children Vaccinated Exposing a child to a virus or disease strand, no matter how small the dosage, is frightening. There are multiple complications that come with it but I believe that the benefits outweigh the costs. Vaccines have saved the world billions of dollars and have been the reason behind the decline of deadly diseases such as smallpox and measles. Some parents are against vaccinations because they feel as if the outcomes are unreliable. Parents should get their children vaccinated because it helps lower the infections and diseases related to mortality rates, is a smart financial investment, and is considerate to the lives of those around them. Vaccinations contributes to the overall suppression of a disease. The more children that are vaccinated, the lower the reports of infection and deaths due to a disease are. The Center for Disease Control, in an article supporting immunizations, mentions a case in Japan where 80% of the children were vaccinated for pertussis, or whooping cough. That same year the number of deaths reported were zero and the infection count was below 400 children. After a while, parents stopped thinking that their children needed to be vaccinated. That following year only 10% of the children were vaccinated, which resulted in the death rate increasing by 41% and the number of infections being thirty two times larger than the previous year. When comparing and contrasting the years, whether not a child got the vaccination proves to be a huge factor in determining ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Puritans And The American Ethos And Democratic Spirit Puritans founded America, and for roughly two centuries, defined American culture. Their zealousness has created cultural backlashes to many progressive movements, but also organized community picnics, sent aid to impoverished populations (albeit with perverse logic), and comforted millions of Americans, both now and in the past, facing an uncertain world. Tocqueville unequivocally professed the proverbial glue Puritanism has on the American ethos and democratic spirit: Puritanism was not merely a religious doctrine, but it corresponded in many points with the most absolute democratic and republican theories. But American religiosity is diminishing. Other forces like materialism, globalism, humanism, and science continue to push the world into a new frontier. Between 2007 and 2014, adults who are religiously affiliated dropped 6%; though, 77% percent of Americans are religiously affiliated and 58% find religion very important and those who identify strongly with religion continue to have the same intensity in belief. With the election of Donald Trump, many see the dark side of this puritan spirit rising, the parts entangled with our country s deepest, darkest roots: more racism, sexism, and jingoism. Mao a Communist politician and Marxist Ideologist is most renowned for the unification of China and the creator of the People Republic of China. He governed as Chairman of the Communist Part of China for twenty seven years. Among his many accomplishment were his military feats, pushing a national self reliance and spurring China into the modern age. However, Mao s rule was not without its failures. He his criticized for being a ruthless dictator, responsible for harsh living conditions and the death of thousands of Chinese people. Never the less Mao had a great impact and is responsible for the nation and world power that China is today. Mao s rise to power was an interesting journey, because of his very humble beginnings. He was Born on December 26, 1893 into a peasant family in Shaoshan in the Hunan province of central China. From a young age, Mao showed a great intelligence and a desire for knowledge. He attended a local primary school at the age of eight, but received little education. To satisfy his appetite for learning Mao was an avid reader. By the time, he thirteen he was working the fields alongside his father, a grain farmer. Mao rejected the life his father had planned for him. Schedule computation or schedule communication helps to optimize utilization and keep running time low. Several works propose to improve job scheduling by preserving data locality maintaining fair allocation among multiple resource types or discarding time consuming tasks. Even with optimal computation scheduling, the cluster network can still become a blockage. The optimization of network transfers can be done by improving the flow bandwidth allocation or by dynamically changing paths in response to demand. These approaches need accurate and timely application demand information, obtained either from the application itself through instrumentation, which is quick and accurate but intrusive, or from the network through monitoring , which does not require application involvement, but can be expensive, slow, and detects changes in demand only after they have occurred. FlowComb also uses MapReduce framework to influence the design of the system. The public believes that this person is morally inferior and singles out that person for ridicule. However, it can also be self imposed isolation. Approximately fifty three years ago on March 4, 1964 Teressa Bellissimo, the owner of The Anchor Bar, created the very first batch of chicken wings out of necessity. Teressa Bellissimo basically had to put together the recipe after wrongfully receiving a shipment of wings instead of chicken. By this time, the wings of the chicken were one of the least desired parts of the chicken. Today, the bar that still claims to be the home of the original Buffalowing, and its modern day menu offers up a purportedly authentic story from the son of the original owners, claiming that his mom made the wings as a one off late night snack for him and his friends (Thompson). Since chicken wings were once considered a scrap meat and were really cheap she typically used them in her soups at the bar. On this particular night she was trying to get rid of her extra chicken wings because she was not going to be able to make enough soup to use them all up. Therefore, she decided to deep fry the extra wings that she was not going to use in the soup. Once they were cooked to a crispy golden brown she tossed them in some hot sauce and served them to the late night customers that were present. That night she served the wings with a couple celery sticks and a small cup of blue cheese. This traditional side choice compliments the buffalo wings so well and it stuck. Today this is something that is still carried on by all restaurants that serve chicken wings. As pointed out previously, chicken wings can come in different styles such as traditional naked, traditional breaded, and boneless. Space debris, or space junk is the waste byproduct of non functioning spacecraftand spacecraft fragments in Earth s orbit (NASA 2017). This paper examines the origin of space debris, how debris threatens the future of spaceflight, and possible measures to mitigate the effects of space debris. Debris origin A Mission related debris. Space scientists sometimes overlook the amount of debris ejected into space during the satellite launch process. In fact, satellite launches are responsible for approximately 12 percent of the current space debris in Earth s orbit (International Academy of Astronautics 2005). During the launch process, satellites eject debris of varying sizes into space. Some of the debris stays in space much longer than others. For example, the upper stage of the satellite s launch vehicle has pyrotechnic fasteners, usually explosive bolts or nuts, that separate violently during the launch of the satellite. This type of debris, which can vary widely in size, may roam around the Lower Earth Orbit (LEO) an orbit around Earth with an altitude of 2,000 kilometers or less for nearly two weeks before they return to Earth s atmosphere (Dunn 2008). ... Everyone in school knows who Adam is but not Mia because she plays classical music which is not commonly likable today. Not a lot of americans listen to classical american regularly. • 45. Unilineal Cultural Evolution From Unilineal Cultural Evolution to Functionalism Several anthropological theories emerged during the early twentieth century. Arguably, the most important of these was Functionalism. Bronislaw Malinowski was a prominent anthropologist in Britain during that time and had great influence on the development of this theory. Malinowski suggested that individuals have certain physiological needs and that cultures develop to meet those needs. Malinowski saw those needs as being nutrition, reproduction, shelter, and protection from enemies. He also proposed that there were other basic, culturallyderived needs and he saw these as being economics, social control, education, and political organization Malinowski proposed that the culture... Benedict used these types to characterize various cultures that she studied. The most famous exponent of the school of Culture and Personality is Margaret Mead. Margaret Mead was a student of Franz Boas and Ruth Benedict. Though in the course of her career she would eclipse the fame of her tutors, particularly the latter. Mead s first field study was on the Pacific Island of Samoa, where she studied the lives of the adolescent girls in that culture. From this field study, she produced her famous work Coming of Age in Samoa (1949). In this work, she investigated the relationship between culture and personality by comparing the lives of adolescents in Samoa to those of American youths. She concentrated particularly on the sexual experiences of the girls she studied in Samoan culture; drawing the conclusion that the sexually permissive atmosphere of Samoan culture produced healthier less stormy adolescents than that of her own more repressed American culture. The theories of Culture and Personality and Functionalism addressed and rebutted many of the more quaint aspects of the Evolutionary and Diffusionist theories of the nineteenth century. The methodology developed by these pioneers is still in use by anthropologists today. That is, participant observation and a complete involvement in the culture and language of the people being ... Due to substances which were co extracted by TLC (non petroleum substances), a limitation of determination pertaining to quantities of asphalts and tars was noted. A discovery of a more effective route of determining individual properties within petroleum products was observed: the luminescence method (natural water and a UV light) (pp. 1122). I found the following study to be very useful in regards to further environmental planning, as well as a waste management reference for upcoming generations. However, I feel as if the article could have benefitted moreso by specifically including more detail pertaining to the study they conducted. For instance, the author included a brief reference to other researchers interested in a similar area of study as the article being discussed, but neglected to include information about the legitimate statistics (in reference to sample size of bottom sediment studied), as well as failed to state any sense of control area (pp. 1124). In a study designed to improve quality of water, as well as plan for better waste management, a control group would have helped the reader to better comprehend the severity of complex individual components involved in petroleum products. Despite the study s quantitative data limitations, the research conducted was ultimately successful. Considering that the the luminescence method was consequently admitted into Russia s State List of Procedures for the State Ecological ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
