Close your eyes, grasshopper. And imagine a time when music came in cardboard sleeves, your “virtual communication tool” was a phone box, and nobody minded if the soundtrack of a movie didn’t sync with the characters’ lips.
This was the time of martial arts legend Bruce Lee.
Emerging from a 5,000 year old culture, he had great respect for the traditions of his ancestors. But when it came to productivity he was a thoroughly modern man. He built his skills using what later decades would call “life hacking” - short-cuts and best practices to get the job done.
Bruce wasn’t just a master of the five-point palm exploding heart technique; he was also a master of project scoping and effective execution. So if you’re ready to study with the master, let’s enter the temple of productivity … and turn Jeet-Kune-Do into Jeet-Kune-DONE.

Content Marketing (As Explained by Mark Twain)Ninja Marketing
Content marketing is not some new phenomenon, thought up . The rules and processes we follow are the same as the ones that have been used for hundreds of years. In fact, the only difference between the content marketers of the 21st century and the self-published authors of the 19th century is the tool set we have at our disposal.

The Plateau Effect: Why People Get Stuck...and How to Break ThroughThePlateauEffect
The Plateau Effect is a powerful law of nature that affects everyone. Learn to identify plateaus and break through any stagnancy in your life— from diet and exercise, to work, to relationships.
The Plateau Effect shows how athletes, scientists, therapists, companies, and musicians around the world are learning to break through their plateaus—to turn off the forces that cause people to “get used to” things—and turn on human potential and happiness in ways that seemed impossible. The book identifies three key flattening forces that generate plateaus, two principles to guide readers in engineering a plateau’s destruction, and three actions to take to achieve peak behavior. It helps us to stop wasting time on things that are no longer of value and to focus on the things that leverage our time and energy in spectacular ways.
Anything you want to do better—play guitar, make friends, communicate with your children, run a business—you can accomplish faster by understanding the plateau effect.

If good design requires failure, how can designers f*ck up when failure isn’t considered an option?
Edison famously said, "I failed my way to success." In the interactive world, we've all heard the buzz phrases about failing fast, and how failure--particularly in the form of prototyping--can be a powerful design tool. But what about real failure? We've all experienced projects that never got off the ground, or crashed and burned stunningly. We don't put them in our portfolios. We only talk about them when we've had one drink too many. What can we learn from our embarrassments? And are there really things we can learn by failing, especially in the agency and consulting worlds, where we are hired for our expertise, and infallibility?
Questions to think about:
Can there be actual power, and knowledge in failure? What is your biggest failure, and what did you learn from it?
What are the different ways you can fail? Have you ever had a "successful" project that was a personal failure? Why? What can you learn from it?
Why are we so afraid of failing? What are the negative consequences of failure? And how can we encourage a positive viewpoint on failure?
How can we pull victory from the flames of defeat? How do you not panic when you sense yourself failing? How can you use your failure to inform future successes?
How can we build an acceptance of failure into a design or consulting practice? How can we get away from always having to be right, and move towards creative adaptability?

Surviving as a Software Tester, Even in Difficult Circumstancesrrice2000
Most test professionals have worked at some time or other in difficult organizations, dysfunctional cultures, and for unreasonable managers and stakeholders. This causes much internal stress and creates fear instead of creativity.
While some fortunate testers work in fantastic and supportive organizations, Rice’s research with many testers indicate most of the problems in testing are “people problems.”
In this presentation, Randy will describe the most common organizational issues that affect testers and will give some tips and strategies on how to survive through them. He will also discuss the difficult issue of knowing when to move on to a new organization, as well as how to map your own career growth.

Unwritten Laws of Engineering - SCT Institute of Technology
1. The Unwritten Laws
of Engineering
By W.J. King, 1944
Adventure Works: The ultimate source for outdoor equipment
2. • 1: Learn to say, "I don't know." If used when
appropriate, it will be used often.
• 2: It is easier to get into something than to get out of it.
• 3: If you are not criticized, you may not be doing
much.
• 4: Look for what is missing. Many know how to
improve what's there; few can see what isn't there.
• 5: Presentation rule: When something appears on a
slide presentation, assume the world knows about it
and deal with it accordingly.
3. • 6. Work for a boss to whom you can tell it like it is.
Remember, you can't pick your spouse, but you can
pick your boss.
• 7: Constantly review developments to make sure that
the actual benefits are what they were supposed to be.
• 8: However menial and trivial your early assignments
may appear, give them your best effort.
• 9: Persistence or tenacity is the disposition to persevere
in spite of difficulties, discouragement or indifference.
Don't be known as a good starter but a poor finisher!
• 10: In doing your project, don't wait for others; go after
them and make sure it gets done.
4. • 11: Confirm the instructions you give to others, and
their commitments, in writing. Don't assume it will get
done.
• 12: Don't be timid; Speak up, express yourself and
promote your ideas.
• 13: Practice shows that those who speak the most
knowingly and confidently often end up with the
assignment to get the job done.
• 14: Strive for brevity and clarity in oral and written
reports.
• 15: Be extremely careful in the accuracy of your
statements.
5. • 16: Don't overlook the fact that you are working for a
boss. Keep him or her informed. Whatever the boss
wants, within the bounds of integrity, takes top priority.
• 17: Promises, schedules and estimates are important
instruments in a well-run business. You must make
promises; but don’t lean on the often-used phrase: "I
can't estimate it because it depends on many
uncertain factors."
• 18: Never direct a complaint to the top; a serious
offense is to "cc" a person's boss on a copy of a
complaint before the person has a chance to respond
to the complaint.
6. • 19: When interacting with people outside the
company, remember that you are always
representing the company. Especially, be careful of
your commitments.
• 20: Cultivate the habit of boiling matters down to the
simplest terms.
• 21: Don't get excited in engineering emergencies:
Keep your feet on the ground.
• 22: Cultivate the habit of making quick, clear-cut
decisions.
• 23: When making decisions, the "pros" are much
easier to deal with than the "cons." Your boss wants to
see both.
7. • 24: Don't ever lose your sense of humor.
• 25: Have fun at what you do. It will be reflected in
your work. No one likes a grump except another
grump!
• 26: Treat the name of your company as if it were your
own.
• 27: Beg for the bad news.
• 28: You remember 1/3 of what you read, 1/2 of what
people tell you, but 100% of what you feel.
• 29: You can't polish a sneaker.
8. • 30: When facing issues or problems that are becoming
drawn-out, "shorten them to the ground."
• 31: When faced with decisions, try to look at them as if
you were one level up in the organization. Your
perspective will change quickly.
• 32: A person who is nice to you but rude to the waiter
or to others is not a nice person. (This rule never fails).
• 33: Never be afraid to try something new. Remember,
an amateur built an ark that survived a flood while a
large group of professionals built the Titanic!
